Hello, I'm new to this forum and Armbian. I've got an Orange Pi Zero 2+ H5 running the Armbian_5.34.171121_Orangepizeroplus2-h5_Ubuntu_xenial_next_4.13.14 image. It's connected to a device via UART1 using pin 1 for 3.3V, 6 for GND, and 8/10 for TX/RX. I've been trying unsuccessfully to use pyserial in a Python script to read data from the ttyS* devices, but I can't seem to cat anything from them either. I've tried moving the device to a RaspberryPi Zero W and I'm able to read the output from ttyS0 successfully. I did have to run raspi-config to enable the UART on the RPi, but I'm not aware of an equivalent on the OPi. I believe I added the uart1 overlay to my…

Hi guys, I've searched for some days now, but couldn't find any infos. My problem is: If I want to boot my Orange Pi Zero without Ethernet, it just wont start. It seems like it is waiting for me to put in the cable. This can't be normal, can it? I ask, because, what am I supposed to do if I like my device to connect exclusively through WiFi? Or connect to nothing at all, till I need some type of connection. For me, it is important to connect only through WiFi at the moment. The OS's I've tried: Armbian Debian Jessie "mainline" and "legacy", no difference between them. Thanks, Pyro

Hello there! Its nice to meet everyone and thank you so much for having me! I have this great project i'm working on involving 30 orange pi zeros. You see SD cards are expensive when you need to buy 30 of them so I have been trying for about a month now to make armbian work without the SD card. The idea is to boot into the os get a few things running and then remove the card and boot another pi. I have tried creating a ramfs mount and copying/mounting (what I believe are) all the requirements and then using chroot. But that doesnt work at all. I'm imagining that outside of chroot services are still running and once they cant write to some file…

Hello! Since I upgraded to 5.35 on my OPI PC Plus the connected TV-Screen (direct via HDMI Cable) ist purple. An upgrade zu 5.36 has the same problem. It would be nice if there has anyone a solution for this.. thanks SOLUTION: I downloaded a new version of 5.35 and upgraded to 5.36 Then I copied the files in /boot of the SD-Card (New One) to the /boot of the OLD system on EMMC - and it works

Is there a way to set the OTG port on the Duo to host mode when not using it for power? This way a mini shield is not required for simple projects that power off the bus, but want to utilize the OTG port. It looks like it is possible, see my comments in thread below:

Hi everyone, i bought an OrangePI PC Plus as a Lab computer to google stuff and watch Youtube. I tried Debian_stretch_next_desktop_nightly.7z, nice desktop, but i figured that compiling the mali driver is a pain. Then i tried Debian_jessie_default.7z, installed xfce4, modprobe mali works out of the box but i seems like X11 doesn't utilize that. So how do i get youtube going smoothly in the most painless manner? Thanks a lot!

A couple of weeks ago I took delivery of an Orange Pi Zero Plus 2 H3 it has the form factor I wanted, eMMC support and HDMI which implied I could run a desktop; the H3 was also the variant that seemed to have the best support. Since then I have been trying to get a stable usable desktop environment working. I tried the latest version of Armbian legacy server specifically for this board and that works fine as far as the server version goes so then I tried to add a basic desktop but that didn't work the xOrg driver said there were no screens present and everything I tried after going to Google University failed. Then I tried a couple of distros from the Orange Pi website b…

I've installed this library on an Orange Pi PC Plus running 'Armbian 5.31 stable Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS 3.4.113-sun8i' with all updates and I would like to use wiringPiI2C but it doesn't work with either /dev/i2c-0 or /dev/i2c-1. My USB storage CRO device shows no output at all when I attempt a write to an I2C device on connector pins 3 and 5 (BCM pins 2 & 3). the 'gpio' app and 'blink' example apps that come with the library wiggles these and other pins as outputs, no trouble at all. I'm porting a library that interfaces to a DS3232 or DS3231 real-time-clock chip from Arduino and have used the initialisation sequence from the example in the WiringOP librar…

Hi everybody, At first I would like to thank you all cause of all your comments in previous posts that helped to make my Lime2 working great. But since the 5.35 upgrade it doesn't want to start anymore. I was on a A20-OLinuXino-LIME2 without eMMC and the Armbian_5.31_Lime2_Ubuntu_xenial_default_3.4.113_desktop image which I upgraded to the 5.35. On the 5.31 I modified before the update the /boot/bin/lime2.bin file into a lime2lcd10.bin file in order to make the lime2 work with the LCD-OLinuXino-10TS of Olimex. After the update, I needed to make the link again with the /boot/script.bin file. But even with a new Armbian image freshly downlo…

My Orange Pi Zero (rev 1.4) has a SPI flash module soldered to the underside. I can see the devices /dev/spidev0.0 and /dev/spidev1.0, and I can write to them and read from them (with dd), but the data I read from them is always just null bytes. Obviously then I can't create a filesystem on them. Is it possible to create a small filesystem on the SPI flash to add files? If not, how is it possible to store data on the SPI flash? I'm running Armbian 5.30 with kernel 3.4.113-sun8i.

Hi, I would like to know if there is a way to set the display resolution to 640x480, to use with an old CRT screen from a IBM PS/1 model 2011 that I want to revive. I know about h3disp, but it only has high resolutions, and that old screen does not want to sync correctly to anything other than VGA. I use an Orange Pi One, with a HDMI to VGA adapter and Armbian 5.35, with legacy kernel 3.4.113 Thank you! -Alexandre

Hello All, I have Orange Pi one board with Armbian 5.20 Desktop and Kodi/mpv/mplayer installed. I want to make OP1 a home media center. Desktop is set to 1080p60 (1920x1080p 60Hz, by h3disp script). My problem: Everything works perfect when playing videos mkv (x264/h264), mpeg2, mpeg etc. for mpv, mplayer, kodi even 1080p materials. But I have a problem playing videos coded with MPEG4 (popular avi xvid). MPV config: vo=vdpau hwdec=vdpau fs=yes framedrop=vo Video looks like this: http://pasteboard.co/i5YOuOebV.jpg When I use vo=x11 and video is not in fullscreen everyting is OK, on full screen i get: LIBGL: Initialising glshim Playing: The.English.Patie…

Hi there, my BananaPi won't boot after a (maybe failed) apt-get update. Is there anything i could try to make it work again? While apt-get upgrade was running, I saw (iirc) in the log that the kernel directory (?) isn't empty (?). This message stayed there for quite a long time but the update process ended without any error messages. Thank you.

Dear Armbian community, not sure if this the right place for this thread, please feel free to move it. I'm testing the Debian Installer Buster (alpha release) after seeing that there is (partial) support for the 5 there is (partial) support for the•Orange PI zero (H2+) and other boards. It seems that the u-boot packages in Debian miss the u-boot build for the Orange Pi zero and support for the Ethernet controller as it seems it is not the mainline kernel yet and seems to be needing some work in order to be available in kernel 4.15. Armbian already includes the u-boot build and has support for the Ethernet controller of the Orange…

Hi, I've been playing around with a OPi Win+ which is aint bad but full support seems a while off ... I'm looking for a quad core, 2G, good wifi with external antenna and this seems to fit the requirements. I dont care too much about hdmi but if it works all the better. I was just wondering what current owners thought of it. Can the internal wifi do AP mode and will it do dual modes ... hostapd-8188 will create wlan0 & wlan1 so that you both connect to an AP and be an AP. Google doesnt show much about 8189ETV Given that the armbian download shows it with a legacy kernel but stable I expect that everything 'works' ... …

From Zadors reply to I learned there is a Video Engine for Video, Mali for 3d and a Display Engine for 2d. I used an old version of armbian on OPi PC (h3disp had no 4k option) . Moving desktop windows was very fast. In current desktop release legacy 3.4.113 moving large windows is very slow. So I guess Display Engine is not working correctly. How can I determine if it works? Mainline version gives me no display at all. Thanks.

Hello, I'm a bit confused about the documentation, to be precise the hardware notes > Allwinner Generic > reconfigure video output part. It lists various options regarding video output. Then it states Now I see, inside boot, a "armbianEnv.txt" and the mentioned "boot.cmd". However, the default boot.cmd doesn't contain a saveenv line. Also, the head of the boot.cmd clearly states Can someone lighten me up on the relationship between the files armbianEnv.txt and boot.cmd, and why I should/shouldn't edit boot.cmd? I'm running the mainline kernel on a Banani Pi Pro, if this is relevant. Thanks in advance

Hi, On upgrading to 5.35 Ubuntu Xenia default 3.4.113 I am unable to get DVI video working, I am presented with a pink screen. Monitor is a 1280x1024 dvi connected via HDMI-DVI converter cable. I am configuring this with h3disp -m 1280x1024 -d. I have rolled back to a 5.30 image and everything works as it should. Possibly a bug? How can I upgrade everything in the distro without breaking the video again? Thanks.

I recently received my kit, which consists of the Neo, heatsink, and acrylic shell. Installed Debian_jessie_default.7z with Etcher onto a Kingston SDCIT/8GBSP. PCB 1.3+ uses a more sophisticated voltage regulator than earlier revisions... The temperature is excellent so far (only 40c). I can run some more tests if someone provides instructions. So these boards do not in fact require a heavy copper plane for heat dissipation. I did use a superior heat pad rather than the one that is provided with the heatsink kit. Ideally, you would want something like a 4mm or so copper shim with good quality thermal paste applied to bo…

I am trying to use an Iono Pi Board from SFERA Labs on an OrangePI PC Plus. https://www.sferalabs.cc/product/iono-pi-board/ I was able to get i2C working so that I could connect to some devices like a temp sensor and accelerometer. Hello, I am using OPi Zero with Armbian. From computer (Win or Ubuntu) or from other device with Android I am sending data to OPiZero device via LAN (many MBs/s). Hi, I understand that powering the Orange Pi Zero through the USB OTG interface is convenient but suboptimal due to low power, especially if you have other devices attached to the board. I've seen recommendations that powering the board directly via the 5V and GND on the GPIO from a clean and sufficiently powerful power supply is preferable. I know in theory what needs to be done but I don't know how to physically connect to the board. The GPIO is a 2x13 row of conductive holes in the board. (Is there a name for this sort of thing, by the way?) Say I have two wires, 5V and GND. How do I physically attach a wire to one a hole? Do I need to …

Hi, do you remember my issue with 2 opi1? Well, today I burned again an armbian image with etcher and connect either of the two opi one, to a usb-ttl converter (an arduino). ok, when I put the power on the result is what you see in the attach... the two freeze on DRAM: always. the power is a xiaomi power adapter 5v2a (double checked with a multimeter) and a handmade cable (checked with the multimeter too, 4.8v/4,9v always) so...can I finally tell that my two board are faulty? or there is something I could do? thank you in advance

Hi! Could you please clarify, is there a way to increase default limitations for max cpu freq (H5) on Orange Pi Prime? As i understand, according to driver (cpufreq-dt): /etc/default/cpufrequtils is a bit less restrictive: Is this a driver limitation ? Or there is a way to increase cpu-freq, but it's not used by default ? ( ... and why, if it is so ?)

I found a problem about ethernet port leds in mainline kernel, legacy kernel is fine. the ethernet port has two leds, one is link-up (green), the another one is act (orange). In Normally, the green led keep light on when cable plugged in. And the orange led keep blinking when data coming or outgoing. but in mainline kernel (4.13.16-sunxi / linux-image-next-sunxi 5.35) ethernet port leds REVERSED. the green led keep light off when cable plugged in but light on when cable plugged out. I found that problem both in a new bought opizero and an old opizero. here is a short video record

Hi all, I'm trying to access the GPIO from python context and I absolutely need to do it in a rootless way. (WSGI apache module) I'm a newbie and noticed that this is the library command causing the error inside the python library: Code: Select all fd = open("/dev/mem", O_RDWR); I do have /dev/mem on my armbian distro and clearly the access to /dev/mem is root limited, what's worst I don't have /dev/gpiomem Is there a way to create /dev/gpiomem so I can add the apache user to gpio group and solve this? Do I need to configure and compile a kernel by myself? please help me, thank you

I need 3 USB ports (webcam, wifi 5G, 3d printer). On Zero Plus 2 H3/H5 micro usb port is occupied by usb charger, because none of my devices can play as power source. So, only 2 usb ports left, not enougth. Is it possible to make micro usb useable somehow? For example, via custom usb cable etc. I need micro-usb male / micro usb male cable (OPI <-> 3d printer board) + supply power somehow. PS. i don't like to add external usb hub.

Hi, I have a orange pi pc plus, and i want to use a PN532 NFC module with Uart. At first, i need to enable uart and i have found this docs : https://docs.armbian.com/Hardware_Allwinner/ , but i think i miss something. My kernel version is 4.9.0, so i follow Vanilla kernel (Device Tree) explanations. What i understand is i need to modify "sun8i-h3-orangepi-pc-plus.dtb" in /boot/dtb. I try to do it, but i surely do something wrong, because my pi didn't boot anymore, so i flash the sd card. Before remaking any modification i prefer to be certain, do i really need to modify this files? And in particular this lines? /*Part of the files (Uart0 and Uart1)…

hi, I made a program on Orange pi minus (kernel 3.X)using wpa_supplicant for wifi direct. That worked fine (basically). But i have been asked to do it on Orange pi plus with Kernel 4.9. The wifi works when i using nmtui, but when i made a iw list i couldn't find my material and i am not able to configure P2P. I think the problem is the kernel version and not the Hardware because my card with kernel 3.X works on orange pi pc plus. So i am a bit lost, what can i do ? My guest is to modify the realtek module ? I am not sure if i am on the right direction... Thanks, Ps: Sorry for my english.

Hi, I am using the Armbian NanoPiDuo image and I have enable sound through armbian-config. It work well except for a small issue. When a file is sent to play, it misses out on about .5 seconds of the first part of audio. So if I run speaker-test -t wav, instead of the sound playing "front left" it just play the work left, the continues playing "front left" correctly. If I stop speaker test and run again straight away it work as planned. If I wait a few seconds the original problem occurs. To my basic knowlege, it seems like it is initialising the sound out. Is anyone else having this problem? Are there any settings I can adjust to …

Hi, Just a quick question as Debian Stretch has been out for a while now: Will there be an official upgrade of ARMBIAN for the Cubietruck (Cubieboard 3) at some point or is there a simple doc on how to upgrade the distribution? I run ARMBIAN with the legacy kernel (3.4.113-sun7i). Everything required for the system boot is in the NAND while the root and /home partitions are on the sdd. Would it be possible to upgrade to Stretch just by replacing the version name in the sources.list file? If there won't be any automated ARMBIAN upgrades to Stretch for this device. Would you recommend using the official Debian distribution (and bo…

I'm running the latest armbian on my Banana Pi M1 as a headless file/media server. My problem is that my Banana Pi would randomly stop working any time of the day. A day would not pass by without me having to reboot my server manually by pressing the reset button. There would still be network activity as the activity lights on the LAN keeps on flashing and it would still respond to my ping requests. I'd know it stopped working if I can't access the server's services anymore through its web ui (webmin, transmission, etc.) and to confirm this I'd try to SSH into it and it wouldn't connect. I tried creating a script where it would restart the LAN if it pinged the…

I first noticed this on my Orange Pi Zero. The latest Armbian releases (4.13.x) have some kind of gap between bytes when transmitting over SPI. I have an SPI performance test built into my SPI_LCD code: https://github.com/bitbank2/SPI_LCD If you run the demo program, it measures how many frames per second it can write to an SPI-connected LCD. On older Armbian builds with kernel version 3.x, it would usually get 27-33FPS on the H2/H3 boards. With the mainline kernel builds and running the same code, I'm seeing 9-17FPS (depending on the board). The H5 doesn't seem to be affected (I'm using an Orange Pi Zero +2 H5 for testing also). Anyone else seeing…

The OS wan't give me a prompt, I just have: "Linux orangepipcplus 3.4.113-sun8i #18 SMP PREEMPT Thu Jun 15 02:16:06 CEST 2017 armv71" ... and no prompt, I wait, and I wait, but no prompt. I can switch to another another console with ALT+F2 (F3,F4..), but if i want to log on it I have the same issue: no prompt I can ping IP address of orangepi, but I have no answer of ssh server, I can't connect to this. I have read through the forum that Banana Pi Pro does not support directly powering drive over USB as it might be too much for this board. In my setup I use 2 A power adapter for my Banana Pi and an active HUB with power supply of 1 A, but with limit of 500 mA for HDD. Still, when connecting HUB to Banana Pi and HDD to HUB the same issue appears as when no HUB is used - the red diode turns off and Banana Pi looses power. I have already tried several HDDs (500 GB, 320 GB, 2 TB) - all with the same result. Anyone has some idea why this might be occuring despite powering drives from external source? Does Armbian have any software limitations that are creating this issue? …

I have the temperature sensor DS18B20 connected to port 20 of the gpio as w1, if I want to connect another sensor it is as easy as adding a w2 and its port in /boot/bin/orangepiplus2e.bin [w1_para] w1_used = 1 gpio = 20 [w2_para] w2_used = 1 gpio = 10 or [w1_para] w1_used = 1 gpio = 20 gpio = 10 So or something else? thanks

Hi, it ist well known, that a SD-card can be destroyed when you power-off a Raspberry-Pi without a shutdown. Does the same issue exist with an Orange-Pi (One) ? I want to use an Orange-Pi One headless and without SSH/TTY, only some sensors and LEDs are attached. Tnx L

Hi all, I'm new here. Since I bought my OPi One I didn't try any of the official images, but only armbian legacy kernel. The first OPi one I thought it was broken, no led on the board only the eth ones, nothing happend on the screen (homemade power cable with 1.4 plug and a xiaomi ac power adapter 5V 2A almost correctly given, tested with a multimeter). The image was burned on a 4gb kingston micro sd card with etcher formatted with sd formatter. So I bought another one, and I have the same identical issue. So, I started to study and I found out that I could connect to the OPi through SSH. So it what I tried to do all the night. Again image burned with e…

Hi guys, Quick question about the USB ports on the Cubietruck. Once I am done with the usual setup procedure (changing the root password and setup a user) system reboot. I sometimes end up in situations where I need to access the Cubietruck directly and not through ssh. In such situations I noticed that my usb keyboard and mouse do not respond at all, eventhough if these are the exact same ones hich I used to the 1first time setup. What could be the reason for this ? Thx,blub4747

Hello all, I am very excited to install armbian debian jessie on my cubietruck ! I managed to get the Armbian_5.31_Cubietruck_Debian_jessie_next_4.11.5.img to an SD card, plugged it in, switched it on and everything went perfectly fine! Great! Now, I am trying to get this OS on the CT Nand. Sadly, the nand-sata-install doesn't work, returning the message : "There are no targets. Please check your drives". One very strange thing to me is the output of the /proc/partitions files that shows the following : major minor #blocks name 1 0 4096 ram0 1 1 4096 ram1 1 2 4096 ram2 …

I bought an orange plate zero pi that I requested for a project. The issue is that I can not start the AP mode. I am making use of the hostapd and isc-dhcp-server packages, apparently everything is well configured, I am thinking that the problem is the chip driver of the wireless network. I put some relevant data, from now on thanks. root@orangepizero:~# /usr/sbin/hostapd /etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf Configuration file: /etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf nl80211: Could not configure driver mode nl80211: deinit ifname=wlan0 disabled_11b_rates=0 nl80211 driver initialization failed. wlan0: interface state UNINITIALIZED->DISABLED wlan0: AP-DISABLED …

I was wondering if I could have automount feature for every UFD or USB Hard Drives to the /media folder. As i've investigated it, it would only mount if I get to click its icon on the desktop. I'm running bananapi as my headless file/media/print server. I shared the /media folder to the network through samba and was kept wondering why I'm unable to access every flash and hard drive I'm connecting to my bananapi as it does in my Raspberry Pi (when I share its /media folder in samba). Is there anything that I could do instead of adding it to fstab and manually restarting or manually mounting it every time I connect a media to my Banana Pi server? …

Good day to all! I was wondering how would I be able to spin down the hard drives connected to my bananapi media/file server to save power and reduce wear and tear. Thank you in advance!
