Hello and thanks for reading. I have done some digging before posting this so let me explain my issue and then what I have tried. I am using the Tinker Board S (via SD card, had same issue using EMMC img also) with the Bionic mainline kernel 4.14.y (in armbian config tool it shows Armbian 5.60 Stable ) on an LG 24LF452B montior/tv with the boards HDMI port and no adapters. I have been trying to set the display resolution to 1366X768 or as close to it (it does not appear in the display settings menu natively) but cant seem to make this work. The display works fine on other resolutions, except for horrible image because the wrong resolution, and can be used on 1366X768 …

Update May-21-2018: script may have negative impact on HDMI audio, needs further investigation. Patches pushed to enable I2S HDMI device, but audio does not come out. Update Feb-20-2018: script update committed for out of the box audio support (both outputs and inputs) for ASUS Tinker Board. Available sinks: BT-VOIP SPDIF Headset (the jack) Available sources: BT-VOIP Headset-input (the jack) Tinkerboard sound is possible with Armbian, however I have not worked to get it set up "out of the box" because of a major bug in the sound itself, namely that it outputs pure high pitched garbage from certain ap…

Hello all, i have a pressing problem requiring urgent help. I am currently conducting my thesis with the Tinker Board and i have the Armbian Ubuntu desktop with the legacy kernel running. I noticed when i try to boot the system, it takes approximately 25 minutes to show the Login request in the CLI and after that, it creates the user account but instead of proceeding to the regular desktop page, it gets stock there and does not proceed. I will please like to know if anyone has an idea of how to solve this issue as i urgently need it to get running fast to run the tests needed for my thesis. Thanks.

Just started using the thinker board, and got fed up with the OEM builds which brought me here. So I would like to thank everyone for all the hard work, Im sure it can't be easy fixing things blind! Cheers mates. As the Tinkerboard runs hot under load, i run a program that adjusts pwm to adjust fan speed. so I noticed right away when upgrading to 4.13.0 that both soc and gpu thermal zones had broken. I've tried 4.13.1 and 4.13.2 as well they are broken as well. 4.13.x all kick error messages into dmesg as well. root@Asus:/sys/class/thermal# uname -r 4.12.0-rockchip root@Asus:/sys/class/thermal# cat /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone[1-2]/temp 32…

Hi all, I'm trying a Tinkerboard running armbian (minimal) and DietPi. My goal is to handle suspend and wake up. To enter in suspend mode i run 'echo mem > /sys/power/state'. I'm looking other ways to suspend .. by C application or by a signal on GPIO To wakes up I notes different modes on different OSes: - linaro pressing power button, pressing a key on usb+bt keyboard, pressing usb+bt mouse button - dietpi - pressing power button - armbian minimal - nothing ? my guess is that the board shuts down Please con you confirm? Where does reside this different behaviors? Thanks, regards. PS: is …

Anyone who typically updates on nightly kernels I would recommend freezing and not updating until we clear up some issues gifted us by some large amount of upstream changes that broke well, pretty much everything. I will update this thread as things get brought back to life. June 7th 2018: I've made a branch (rockchip-default) to work out the kinks. So far I have the board booting and Mali working again (with an initial error on load) , however there is no HDMI terminal, so initial boots would require a uart or SSH hdmi terminal is back thank you to Ntemis on github, I'd missed part of the conversation (I only have cell phone while at w…

Hi, New build, Armbian_21.05.0-trunk_Tinkerboard_focal_current_5.10.22_xfce_desktop.img. The build finished ok and the image after flashing is working just fine, but.. unfortunately there is no /boot/dtb/overlay folder and of course none and its .dtbo entries are found anywere. Am I missing something ? Is the latest build system broken for Tinkerboard ? Do I need to specify something during the build process menu ? /PS Just checked with the Armbian ready-made provided image for Tinkerboard, the Armbian_21.02.1_Tinkerboard_focal_current_5.10.12_desktop.img.xz and Armbian_21.02.3_Tinkerboard_…

On a fresh Buster Minimal install, what is required to get armbian-config fully functional? apt install armbian-config 'works' but some functions don't, for instance it fails setting the locale as dpkg-reconfigure errors as usr/lib/armbian-config/jobs.sh line 839 dpkg-reconfigure : command not found EDIT: In armbian-config I selected 'full firmware package' and rebooted, time zone settings now work. Was odd that the welcome page said run armbian-config (beta) but it had to be installed manually via apt.

Hello Forum, i just got my new tinker board running with armbian, thanks for the good work ! I want to set up a vdr vnsi server on this to replace the existing Raspberry 2. I try to understand the usage of Tinkerboard for Industrial Application usage, we have below questions. 1. Operating temperature is between 0-60 C [as many Industrial PLCs recommend 0-55 C only] 2. Long Term Supply of the Boards 3. Bulk Quantities buying [Get 30 to 50 boards in 2-4 weeks notice] The board and quality seems top notice, RPI interface is good for our use cases, anyone sees a risk in above points or would like to suggest something? We are looking a good sized community, Ubuntu OS, much stable and better performing board compared to Raspberry PI, all seems good with Tinkerboard. Please share your idea…

Hi, I have installed "Armbian_22.08.7_Tinkerboard_bullseye_current_5.15.74_minimal.img.xz" on a Tinkerboard (no S, with RK3288). I have tried to set the output of some header pins without success. Hi out there! F.Y.I. I've tried a lot of things to customize the kernel for Tinker Board on 32-bits host platform, but finally I gave it up. Instead other messy things, I followed the armbian instructions exactly, and successfully created an Armbian_5.32_Tinkerboard_Debian_jessie_default_4.4.76.img using the comile script on the recommended Ubuntu host. Just as a notice the Raspberrry PI 7" DSI Touchscreen was working fine on Armbian with the 4.4 Kernel. Using the current Armbian for Tinkerboard and the 4.19 Kernel it does not work any longer, nor does it with the current development Kernel 5.1. Does there have to be any special things to be set to get it working again? On the 4.4 Kernel it was working out of the box. Thanx

Tinkerboard (old one, not S) to be used as x2go thin client. Installed latest image (5.70_Tinkerboard_Ubuntu_bionic_next_4.19.14_desktop), applied all updates. Working fine (thanks to everybody who contributed). Issue remaining: My Tinkerboard refuses to use the monitor's native display size of 1920x1200, tried several monitors and cables (HDMI to DVI adapter cables, in case this is relevant). Without any modifications, Armbian desktop comes up with 1280x960. I used xrandr to set 1920x1080 (works), but 1920x1200 leads to "xrandr: Configure crtc 0 failed". Any chance to resolve this?

Hello. In Armbian 5.34 (default, next and nightly (26/10/2017) no have permission for create, edit and delet conection on network manager. To be able to modify a connection it is necessary to open the network manager in root. It's really very exciting. Looking on the internet it turns out that it will be a problem of "policy". I had already reported this bug on the post "tinkerboard". He had been tuned to a nightly version but he came back. my account is in the group netdev and sudo like ask in the polkit Would it be possible to have a "next" version fix this bug or have the procedure to fix the error? thank

Hi there! o/ I have noticed something... Odd. This is not a show stopper here, but the TinkerBoard NIC leds stays off all the time (if no traffic) even with link. It does blink somewhat schizophrenically when there's traffic. The right NIC led is bi-color and sometimes blinks in yellow, sometimes blinks in green. For what is worth, running Kernel 4.4-120. Issue also happened in build -104, which was the original Armbian image that I have downloaded. I thought it was something with the port, cables but... Traffic flows just normally Is it... normal? :-) Have a great (tinkering) weekend!!!

Hello, I have been experimenting with the bluetooth audio on my tinkerboard. The issue is both present on the last rockchip-next (4.1x I think) and the rockchip-current 5.8.18 kernel. I am using bluez and bluealsa. The problem is specific to the onboard bluetooth, using an external bluetooth dongle (a cheap and old CSR Bluetooth 3.0 dongle from China) works as expected, I can even send audio to multiple devices simultaneously (quality is very bad, but thats a bandwidth problem). As long as I just connect one bluetooth audio device everything is fine. I can have multiple paired, but disconnected, devices and as long as I connect and p…

I try to get working a tinkerboard on a battery. I can do that with S.USV or S.USV Mobile but i don't know the difference between them. Hello! I set up a firewall on the Asus Tinkerboard. I came across a very strange thing - the lack of support for the CT target in iptables. In fact, it appears that iptables has support of given target, but the required kernel module is missing. After running cat /boot/config-4.4.120-rockchip | grep NETFILTER_XT_TARGET_ST I saw the following: # CONFIG_NETFILTER_XT_TARGET_CT is not set. What the reason of that decision? It blocks ability to forward sip, ftp and some other protocols precisely. And also blocks ability to use SYNPROXY target correctly. Is it planned to include this module in the build?

I have Tinker Board S. I have been using both Tinker OS and Armbian for a while. Recently I upgraded to 5.4.28-rockchip. I noticed that randomly and frequently when I watch cnn.com or other media, my video would freeze. Initially I thought the firefox or chromium crashes. However, later, I realized it was the network issue. Other devices were still able to connect to the internet. When I checked the ifconfig, the network devices still showed proper connection. However, there is no way to ping any URLs. Disconnecting/reconnecting network does not fix the issue. The only fix was reboot. How can I troubleshoot this issue? I was trying to do armbianmonitor but at …

I put a TinkerBoard in a Pi-Top CEED and using TinkerOS 2.0.8 it boots and the LCD works fine. Using Armbian it looks like it boots but nothing is displayed on the LCD. The Pi-Top CEED uses a HDMI to 30-pin converter board and the current LCD is a 1920x1080 14in that I used to upgrade the original. Any ideas why the Raspberry running Raspbian and The Tinkerboard running TinkerOS would work with the display but Armbian wouldn’t?

No go / boot Any suggestions on how to fix.... Thanks... There is a bit here which is what it used to re-write TinkerOS to the eMMC https://tinkerboarding.co.uk/wiki/index.php?title=Setup Really like the Armbian CLI versions as lightweight and without bloat.

Hi all, I'm running Armbian 4.19 (both stable kernel 5.77 and nightly) on an TinkerBoard S. I'm trying to connect a 3.2inch resistive Touch Display to SPI2. Hello there. At present I power my Tinker Board S with a bench power supply set to 5.25V. The power supply has 10A current limiter. I measure the voltage at the GPIO pins using a 6.5 digit multimeter (in cal). The micro usb cord is 1.2 meters (4 feet). When the board is running in tinker os at idle, it is drawing 500mA, and i read 5.00V on the GPIO. But when I load the CPU using sysbench the current spikes to 1.6A, and the voltage measured on the GPIO drops to 4.45V. I measured that the micro USB cable is 0.37Ohm resistance, so about 0.55V of that power drop is due to the micro usb cable. That means all of the voltage drop is not due to the power c…

Hello, I have set kernel.panic=180 in /etc/sysctl.conf to reboot on a kernel panic. Before, the system would keep running/hanging and I could read the errors if I turned on a attached display. Now the result is that the tinkerboard switches off. My expected result would be a reboot. Do I have to set something else? Or do I need to use watchdog? I am using the original tinkerboard with debian bullseye, kernel 5.15.48-rockchip.

Hi every body, I am a new user of Armbian and Linux based system. I wanted to use the Tinkerboard because of his 4K video processor (I am programming a special video application) I install Armbian following the steps of the site. I try too a Youtube video, same thing... Meanwhile I installed a TinkerIOS linaro and TinkerOS android, video are playing at the good speed... Hi. I installed Armbian_20.02.1_Tinkerboard_bionic_current_5.4.20_desktop on my TinkerBoard (not S) and get weird screen state (white, then growing black circle in the middle). I tried Armbian_20.02.1_Tinkerboard_bionic_legacy_4.4.213_desktop and it works very good, but I still want to test vulkan driver, so I updated only kernel to 4.19 (install linux-image-next-rockchip, linux-header-next-rockchip, linux-dtb-next-rockchip and delete 3 old packages). After reboot I got same screen. Is it known bug? Can it be related, that I'm using HDMI-to-VGA adapter? Can you help me to fix it or get usefull logs?

Since Armbian moved to the official Rockchip kernel, camera support should work with their new ISP1 driver. I built an image with the needed drivers but unfortunately it doesn't boot anymore... Hello, I'm observing a strange behavior. If I connect the Tinkerboard to HDMI, it won't start. Only the red led LED lights up. Yellow and green did not light up. The Tinkerboard ist connected to a NorthPada 5V 3A Micro USB Charger power supply. I measured the supply voltage with 5.3V and checked with an oscilloscope if there are voltage dips. But the voltage was stable. I did a cross test. I unplugged the HDMI cable and started the Tinkerboard. The Tinkerboard starts and the yellow and green LEDs lights up. I measured the supply voltage with 5.3V and checked with an oscilloscope if there a voltage dips. The voltage was stable and dropped to roughly 5.1V for a short ti…

So those of us working on getting Retro Pie working on the Tinkerboard have run into a road block. Perhaps someone here might have a clue on this? Current using these instructions to build Retro Pie using the legacy Armbian Debian (4.4) https://github.com/Tinkerpie/Armbian-Setup And for audio over HDMI you need to currently make a change in /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf setting defaults.pcm.card to 1 When this script linked down below: https://github.com/Rydra/bgm-for-es The BGM script takes over all audio so for instance the audio in games does not work or any other audio such as audio from the video sna…

Hello! I would like to know if it is possible to use the microUSB-Connector for connecting a USB device (a 7-port USB hub in my case)? My Tinkerboard is powered through the GPIO pins, so i don't use the microUSB for power input. Is it even possible from the hardware architecture of the board? Do i need some extra kernel packages and/or USB OTG to make it work? Thanks in advance, aElmecker

Today my effort is getting the rk3288 tv box boot from USB devices. During the initialization of the OTG USB port, u-boot complaints about dwc_otg_core_host_init() function which is timing out. I tried to manipulate the device tree chaning the dr_mode flag to host, otg and peripheral, but nothing changed. The only way to get rid of the timeout is to disable the device which, by the way, seems to not work anyway. Hi, i get a probleme with the actual uart acces config by default on Uart2 (pin 32, 33), because i need to use PWM pin (use to set motor speed with a L293D) and on the board only pin 32, 33 can be use with PWM. Now i am using 32 33 pin as PWM but if the cable on these pin is connected the board doesn't boot, maybe because the uarts of u-boot use these pin and the result of un connected cable to my setup = Critical fail. When i remove the cable on pin 32 the board boot. So i need to solve that because i don't want to disconnect this cable at each start and i want to use uarts with this setup. I need to change uart2 to uart1 or find a way to get PWM or a other pin option …

I still have a problem configuring the wifi hotspot on the armbian distribution for tinkerboard. The hotspot is clearly unstable. So none of my computers can't connect to it and my phones and tablets have a unstable connection. I thought having found a turnover using a call to iw with a frequency of 1s. This was reactivating the wifi for some times (that should simulate a continuous connection) but it looks that it doesn't work anymore. So I am stuck with that, I am unable to configure a stable hotspot. Is there something to do with the rtl8723 driver, or have I no hope to make it works ?

to recap: Tinkerboard (rev 1?) has 2 USB devices (from RK3288's internal ports), one for the Realtek HD audio, and one for the 4 USB ports (Genesys 4-port USB hub). while i have no info for the HD audio, the hub is powered via the 5V lines (noted as V5 pin in the datasheet). my mistake would be not checking if all the 5V power lines are shorted, or it's just connected to the hub. there's an option to NC the pin if using an external regulator (say, the RK808 power management chip?) The LAN is separated to the hub and instead directly connected to the RK3288 At least the datasheet for RK3288 says. no pinouts whatsoever so i think …

Hello, I'm enabling g_ether driver on tinker board. The driver works and I'm able to emulate an Ethernet adapter on my PC when I connect it to the tinker micro USB port. This only works if the micro USB connection exists before powering ON the board. If I connect it while the device is already running nothing happens. This behavior may be related to the following kernel path: https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/10535905/ Is there any parameter I can add to avoid the USB from going to hibernate state? Or would it be possible to add the mentioned patch to armbian build tool? Thanks!

Hi! I've got a problem getting USB devices to work with Armbian 22.02.1 (Tinkerboard_bullseye_current_5.15.25) - fresh install, bare image without any modifications. Anyone here playing with USB network adapters? I have a (noname) USB3 Gigabit ethernet adapter which seems capped at 250 Mbps. I know the Tinkerboard only has USB 2.0 (so a theoretical maximum of 480 Mbps), just trying to see if there are better parts out there I could try.

Hello, I've used the Tinkerboard S (Rockchip RK3288) with the Armbian images available for download (https://www.armbian.com/tinkerboard/). Currently, the /dev/ttyS4 serial port is not available unless CONFIG_SERIAL_8250_NR_UARTS=5 when the Linux kernel is built since the serial ports are populated in /dev starting with /dev/ttyS0 and the last serial port to be populated is /dev/ttyS4. By default, CONFIG_SERIAL_8250_NR_UARTS=4. Some additional kernel settings are required to ensure that all of the available serial ports can be utilized. Moreover, I had to activate I2C4 in the device tree overlay using the Armbian configuration utility (https://docs.armbi…

Hello, I am the author of a home automation platform (RaspberryMatic) which is targeted for embedded platforms like RaspberryPi or Tinkerboard. I am regularly following Armbian kernel and u-boot updates for the Tinkerboard and integrate them into my buildroot-based environment so that recent kernel and u-boot versions can be used. I have already updated my environment to kernel 4.14.x and U-boot 2018.05 using the great armbian patchset from GitHub (Thanks for the hard work to get all the Tinkerboard S related issues sorted out recently). What I am currently trying to achieve is to get the Tinkerboard to use a different set of standard gpio settings…

On the Tinker Board , I have tested a simple GPIO application using preinstalled wiringPi C library. I also ran the same application on Raspberry Pi using preinstalled wiringPi C library, but I noticed that the Tinkerboard GPIO speed is very slow. I wonder why this is the case. I would appreciate, if someone share opinion about it. I've added the C program and attached oscilloscope screen-display for GPIO port speed for both Tinker Board and Raspberry Pi. I tested Tinker Board with 2018-02-22-tinker-board-linaro-stretch-alip-v2.0.5 image. GPIO speed is about 158 Khz I tested Raspberry PI 3 Model B with 2018-03-13-raspbian-stretch image. GPIO speed is about 1.9…

Hey everybody, First, thanks for Armbian. The Asus Tinkerboard and the ROCK64 both have the same processor. I'm interested why the Asus Tinkerboard gets the mainline kernel, but the ROCK64 only gets the legacy kernel. Why is this?

Hi, since i have a Asus tinkerboard incoming i was wondering if anyone knows if the "generic" arm64 distro will work this board. Its based of the rockchip RK3288 SoC The support pages states that the board supports debian, but since i dont need a UI ect (im going to use it headless) i dont need the board to load a ui into memory and wanted to use a normal build instead of the TinkerOS Please note, my knowledge of the inner workings of *nix is quite limited, so if my question is to generic or imprecise i apologize.

Referring the MPP samples, i have got an application which can give me NV12 data. 4 instance(or threads) of this application will give me raw data, i need to scale all of them in a single screen. Is it achievable through Mali GPU with current development of userland/kernel driver? Also i need to perform composition. On that tiled screen, i need to show other semi-opaque(transparent) window. Which library can help me to do the same?

When i put it in another Tinkerboard, everything works except wifi ap. I have searched why, and i have found that in my initial tinkerboard wifi is wlan0 and his settings is in /etc/network/interfaces.d/armbian.ap.nat When i put my SD in another tinkerboard, it is wlan1 which mounts and no wlan0. Wlan1 has no ip address. i don't see where is the problem? thanks by advance

hello. I have a problem for quite some time on my tinkerboard. I do not know if it's a software or hardware problem. It appeared after connecting a special Raspberry USB Hub http://www.uugear.com/product/7-port-usb-hub-for-raspberry-pi/ I used this HUB on a raspberry 3b but he grilled the wifi chip (disappeared totally). I thought I had to grill the wifi chip of the tinkerbard like the raspberry but I can see the chip turn on from time to time. Today she has reappeared but "wlan0 not ready" in the network manager. sudo ip link show wlan0 wlan0: <BROADCAST, MULTICAST> mtu 1500 qdisc noop state DOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000…
