For a beginner like me this is a difficult box to install Armbian on. Before attempting the installation I had managed to install Armbian on a NexBox A95X (S905), and a M8S (S812). I want to share my experience with others because even though every box is different, what I did to install Armbian may give other users ideas on what to try on their own boxes. It is also good to record what I did in case I have to do it again years down the road 😅 The problem with the unit is that it is heavily customized, specially the boot loader. Hello I have Armbian 23.11 installed to x96mini. I use it for HomeAssistant HA argues that cgroup version is incorrect and I have to switch it to version 1. There is a lot of advises about adding "systemd.unified_cgroup_hierarchy=false" to /boot/armbianEnv.txt or /boot/cmdline.txt or /etc/default/grub on the Intrnet But I have not these files in my system. I am using armbian on TV box S905W. with 32gb EMMC memory. actually the free memory in my EMMC is about 24gb i.e. only 8gb. used Currently, I have an additional box of s905w with the same version but with EMMC with 16gb memory. I used emmc 32gb partition backup using dd command and extract to usb, I use gparted to reduce the partition size ( ROOT_EMMC and BOOT_EMMC) to 12gb. I copied 2 downgraded partitions to 1 16gb usb, repackaged it as an img file. Proceed to use dd method to restore img file to emmc of 16gb device. The recovery did not give an error, but after rebooting using the EMMC internal memory, the device failed to boot. I want to know can we back…

After trying to update using an SD card, my box powers on but does not send anything to display. I have previously tried to flash using USB 2 cable with the USB burning tool but I get a "Romcode/Initialize DDR/Read initailize status/USB Control setup error" message at 2%. I have tried 3 different files to the same effect, hence why I used SD cars and I am unable to fix the box using the USB tool. I need a boot image so I can try to fix it via SD card but I cannot find one anywhere. Please does anyone have a boot image I can use or can point out where I can find one or a way of fixing this by SD image?

Hi all, I have this Amlogic S905x2 (ddr3l) android tv box which I'm trying to boot Armbian on. Firstly, I was having issue with the default bootloader always booting into android, no matter if I used the sd card or usb. So then I lifted the emmc chip, in hope that it will then choose to boot from the sd card. However, I failed to notice that BL2 is stored in the emmc, and as you guessed, I need BL2 to boot into linux. Now I've read that you can use USB burning tool to send and start BL2 from RAM. I have successfully booted armbian 20.10 bullseye 5.9.0 on a tx 3 mini powered by an S905W chip. I am trying to control the diplay on the front and while searching for answers came across this openvfd library for the tx 3 mini. I've followed the instructions but to no avail have succeeded in controlling the display. One key difference i've noticed, is that the controller on the board is an FD6551 model, as opposed to the standard FD628. I recently pick up an TX9 Pro Android box and want install Linux desktop to it. I have tried a few guides and images with no luck. I'm able to either load the image and gets stuck loading Ethernet or loading the kernel or will not reset at all with the tooth pick method. I was wondering what I'm doing wrong. I know the DTB file needs to be correct with the right configure. Thanks to this forum I had installed Armbian buster and it's been running really well and stable for 3 years. For the first time I've arrived at an issue which makes me revisit and also because I have forgotten most of the stuff. Back in the day balbes150 had a bunch of ready made images available and you picked the correct device tree after flash. Appears those links no longer work. I don't want to do a massive upgrade, just from buster to bullseye on my week play 2 box (s905h only uses 4w when running) My question is where can I get those old images again. Or a newer resource for ready made images that will work on my box.

Only get Eth0 or Wlan0 to connect if I go to Android and then reboot with USB pen inserted. If reboot directly to Armbian with previous boot to Android, get an error with Failed to raise. What can be done to insure Eth0 or Wlan0 will allways start at boot?

I coundt find the "BACKUP&RESTORE" app, because of that, I cant load the aml_autoscript.zip file. I trie to load another firmware to the tvbox, but all the firmware that I find, dont work. The purpose in this guide is to make installation simple for those who wish to follow what I did. This is specifically for the Yoka TV KB2 Pro which uses the S912 chipset with 3GB RAM and 32 GB ROM. It was successful and works for setting up windows mapped drives just fine with Samba. (for example Z:\) I am using it off the SD card, I left Android 7.1 on the EMMC. I'm trying to follow the SteeMan's Installation Instructions for TV Boxes with Amlogic CPUs. I'm want to install Armbian_23.11.1_Aml-s9xx-box_bookworm_current_6.1.63_cinnamon_desktop on a Tanix TX3 with a S905X3. Looking at other posts I think I got extlinux.conf correct but I can't find any ext files and I don't where exactly they are supposed to be. The boot folder in root is empty and there's not boot folder in the boot partition. No idea what tag is relevant so I choose one at random.

This is an Android TV box using the 922 chipset. Under Android, I have been using stock firmware but also recall trying that from the Ugoos AM6. I have managed to get it to boot using u-boot-s905x2-s922. I have tried several of the DTB files starting with the g12b prefix. I had initial high hopes that the one for the Ugoos would work. And it did boot all the way into the desktop (I have auto-login enabled) but the mouse would not move nor would the keyboard respond. Hello, My pet labubu and I got the most recent onecloud/odroid c1 versions fully working on my horrid former Oriental TV box, the TVPad 4 (previously brought up by user @daniyo). Everything works perfectly, except I want to finish my building by installing to eMMC. None of the recent builds I can find come with an install.sh script, and I cannot see the eMMC (or NAND if it's NAND) in lsblk or any of the installers. Hello, I need your help to solve my problem with the eMMC internal disk of my TV box. This is the VONTAR X96 mini model, purchased in June 2019, with 2GB of RAM and 16GB disk. The processor is an Amlogic S905W. I transformed this Android TV box into a Linux server several years ago and I was satisfied with it. A few months ago, during a reinstallation, the internal 16GB eMMC disk became READ-ONLY! It is still visible and accessible (mmcblk1) but I can no longer update it! Hello, I've a tv box marked MXQ PRO 4K quick play (S905 soc). toothpick recovery no longer works after installing not correct android rom Anyway I installed Armbian choosing random zip file in "update" app in android. Armbian works ok, but if I remove sd card android stays forewer in boot splash screen. Also I tried flash chip short, worked once, but now I can't repeat (is quite dangerous shortin random pins, no documentation for this board) Is it possible to trigger "reboot update" from armbian? Or to start recovery from Armbian. I have android IMG with dtg.img and recovery.img if needed- Thanks for help

I have an Amlogic S905X3 board with an Armbian image in it, there is a module chip of SP6330-X attached to it, I can connect wifi to it and it works properly but when I try to connect Bluetooth it doesn't detect Bluetooth but when i install android in the device it works perfectly. I then wrote it to the beginning of an SD card using dd like this: sudo dd if=bootloader.bin of=/dev/sdX Where sdX is my SD card. Hello I newly installed a community armbian image to my Alfawise H96 ProPlus TV box. All seems to be working except sshd. I found out, that is because of not existing /run/sshd directory. After creating this directory the systemctl start ssh wokrs, but until the next reboot. The image I used is Armbian_23.8.0-trunk.51_Aml-s9xx-box_lunar_edge_6.2.16.img. Thanks

Hi. Running buster on Amlogic 912 arm box T95Z Max. As mentioned, the ethernet doesnt work but wifi does. Tried all the dtbs, no dice. Also, wanted to transfer the OS from SD to EMMC but neither does armbian-config have the boot option nor does nand-sata-install work. It says unrecognised command. Have absolutely no clue where to go from here. Any help appreciated.

Hi, I've got some kind of development TV box based on S905X, but I don't see any push button on whole board except power on button. There is no separate button or even AV socket. I looked everywhere and no idea. Do you guys have any other way to run multiboot on this type of board? Just to let you know, I was able to run Armbian on other devices but with some annoying Mediatek WiFi chipset which doesn't have proper drivers. In android i couldn't press "update" and run zip script. Software didn't see any zip. Screen was empty. Then i somehow killed android and got a brock with TWRP. I am trying to boot armbian, but I cannot manage to make anything load the DTB I obtained (tl1-t962x2-x301-2g.dtb) thru dumping the android boot partition. Since a t962x2 is supposedly equivalent to a s905x2 I thought I'd use a s905x2 uboot.ext and change the DTB, but even if I change it the old one is used... How do I make u-boot load this dtb? I watch a video on YouTube and the steps were clear but when I click on the link to get the Armbian Linux server link I get different results than what is shown on YouTube video.
