Hi, following the documentation, I used nand-sata-install to boot from SD, system on SATA / USBwithout any problems. My backup solution (raspiBackup.sh) now creates a 16GB image for the SD card, even if it is just used to boot. Is it possible to shrink the partition? Thank you René

Hello everybody, I am not using OpenMediaVault but I am trying to implement some of its feautures into my existing system based on Armbian Bullseye, running on ODROID HC-2. Is there any tutorial or HowTo available that explains steb-by-step how to install and setup auto-shutdown feauture and WOL? I'd like my odroid hc-2 shut-down when not in use (especially over night) and let it auto-start again whenever I access it via \\myhost\share or \\192.168.0.1\someshare. If that's not possible then I can live with sending a WOL magic packet manually. Any known tutorial avaible for doing this on a ODROID-HC2 ?

Hey everyone...I've tried searching the problem I'm having and have tried different things...all so far to no avail. I'm relatively new to learning about pihole and decided to go out and buy the kit from ameriDroid (maybe should have built my own but decided to go this route to try and save myself some time). I received the kit today and started following the install instructions (I am attempting to install via SSH thru Putty). Once I reached the install command, I get an error stating: "Error: Unable to update package cache. Please try "apt-get update". I've tried the apt update/upgrade and I'm still getting the same error. The output from th…

Sorry for what should be help on a basic operation but I'm having real problems trying to share a SATA attached hard drive via SMB. My aim is to try and share the root of the whole 1Tb drive but I have two problems. 1) Getting the drive to mount at startup. (I thought internal and SATA drives did by default but this seems not to be the case 2) Creating a share with guest permissions. I understand that I should edit the fstb file using the UUID of the disk. I obtained the UUID but there are two listed. One for the whole disk and one for the partition. (Note The hard drive was formatted exFat in windows before being attached as whatever i did i couldn't write…

I am trying to connect to a 3D printer board using 3 wire serial, that is no CTS and RTS. I had a Wemos wifi module on it previously so I know it works. Now I need to use my BanaPi M2 Zero to control it thorough the same port, the Wemos has been removed and not going back. I keep getting a failure to initialize when I try to connect to the board. I am trying to use Pins 8 & 10 which is supposed to be UART 3 = /dev/ttyS3 from what I understand. Questions: How can I test the port? I have Minicom installed. How do I set the parameters to disable CTS and RTS? What flow control should I be using? Software? …

Hi, my new Orange Pi has been set up with an external HDD. I've backed up my banana pi m1 with sudo tar cvpzf /mnt/BackupNas/backup.tgz --exclude=/proc --exclude=/lost+found --exclude=/mnt --exclude=/sys --exclude=/dev --exclude=/boot / and restored the files onto the external HDD on the OPI. A restart was successfully and the system appears to run smoothly. It now doesn't display the nice text after logging in via SSH. I am afraid that there are other important files overwritten. Does anybody know what I might have overwritten and needs to be restored from plain armbian? Thanks René

First of all: yes, I'd read phelums "Compiling RTL8189es driver" thread. If where was a solution for his thread, I didn't get it. I'm running Armbian Focal on my Pinebook Pro. With other distros, I'm accustomed to being able to run utilities requiring root privileges like gparted and Synaptic from the Application menu. With Armbian, however, nothing happens after I click on the application. There is no popup window to authenticate with a root password and the application does not launch. The aps work fine when run from a terminal using sudo, but how can I correct this problem with the Application menu? Thanks!

I am able to rebuild the kernel for this board and the image runs fine, but it appears that is does not support the UART on the GPIO. Does anyone know which kernel files need to be modified for this? It looks like its one of the .fex files in the pack-uboot folder. But there are multiple folders in that folder with multiple .fex files that all reference the uart. (sun50iw6/sun50iw9). How can I tell which .fex file the build is using? Thanks for any help, -Rich

I like armbian-debian but don't like that i can only do the checksum for the 'img.xz' and not the actual image. Once i extract the .img from the img.xz, i don't see how i can check the actual .img since there is no checksum for it; even though it is very difficult for malware to get on the .img, it is possible. I realize that if the .img.xz's checksum is good, then the .img image is good. But once I expose the .img to my computer, if there is malware unknowingly present, then the .img could become infected and I have no way to check it. My orangepiplus2e is 32-bit. Thanks

Hello all, I'm using Armbian 5.73 stable (Ubuntu 16.04.5 LTS) for a year or so on an OrangePi Zero. That little box is working as a backup box and network-wise DNS server via DNSMasq (ver. 2.75-1ubuntu0.16.04.5). The OS and general system is working very stable, but I'm having issues with DNSMasq. It's solving both local systems' names via /etc/hosts and internet hostnames for the whole network. Sometimes, DNSMasq stops solving external addresses. There'll be no error and warning messages anywhere, and when pinged with kill -USR1 signal, it happily prints the current stats. I'm running with a cache size of 6148, and I see no cache overflows in the…

Following a successful deployment of an MCP2515 SPI to CAN device with the great help of https://forum.armbian.com/topic/3588-can-bus-support-orange-pi-zero/ I’ve been looking into using an SPI to CANFD device with the orangePi R1 (H2+ based). (CANFD allows greater bitrate than the “regular” CAN) I am looking into using the driver made for the mcp2517fd/mcp2518fd, which has been submitted but not yet linux mainlined: https://github.com/msperl/linux-rpi/tree/upstream-v5.0-rc3-mcp25xxfd-v6.11/drivers/net/can/spi/mcp25xxfd This driver seems to be functional with the raspberry pi, and an example of PCB and associated overlay can be seen here: https://github.com/…

Greetings, I set up an an armbian build environment, and went through the initial build, which took some time. Subsequent rebuilds took a couple hours as well, and I discovered I could 'skip' rebuilding the kernel unless I wanted to build it. Now, I'm testing customize-image.sh, things aren't always going where I want. so, I troubleshoot, make changes, but now my minimum build time is 30-40 minutes. Is there something else I can do to speed up the process?

Hello people, Half a year ago I flashed Armbian to to Mekotronics R58 plastic box, which was then an unofficial version. It's been on the shelf a while. Now I see new Armbian versions for download. I plugged in my device and did an update/upgrade. See Neofetch result below. My question is: is there any reason to completely flash the new version? Or am I already fine? It seems kernal versions are the same! Everything works fine and looks awesome including RealVNC for which I had some work to do. Therefore I am a bit reluctant to ditch the current version. Couple of minor issues I have are can't get Samba working and boot from SSD. Bas …

Good evening, Is it possible to "re-use" the system on SATA ? And how would I do that. Hi Armbian Community, I am trying to get the Coral/Google NPU (M.2 PCIe key) to work with the NanoPC-T4. Without success. I built Armbian with linux headers (5.4.48) and was able to apt install the gasket-dkms package. (The EdgeTPU requires Google's Gasket and Apex drivers to be built as modules with DKMS, and thus requires the linux headers to be installed at /usr/src). Also, there was no conflicting Gasket or Apex module in the Armbian release prior to install (an issue found by other EdgeTPU systems on other distros). My problem, I believe, has to do with the NanoPC-T4's PCIe. I have tried many different kernels (FriendlyElec's Core/Des…

I went into a problem after setting up mariadb / nextcloud installation nativ on my armbian installation odroid n2. per default the logfiles for mariadb (bin files) are logged to /var/log which is only 50 mb because of in memory usage (zram). So after some usage the whole installation stucked because of "out of disk usage" in /var/log. So I stopped nginx, php and mariadb and created a new logfile location in /var/log.mariadb and changed the necessary entries in /etc/mysql/my.conf and started the necessary services again. For now the usage is propper again in /var/log. Maybe this is useful for other people or other had another solution for this. …

So...I'm trying to find the linux headers for my Banana Pi M1, so I can install Wireguard on it. But seems there's no sanxi headers? Also...no headers for that kernel whatsoever. The generic ones stop at 4.18 then jump to 5.0. Then there's a bunch of raspi and raspi2 headers, and then the misterious to me linux-headers-edge-sunxi 21.05.6, which I guess won't work on mine. Where should I get headers for my Banana Pi? Also just in case, I'm a bit worried about doing something too drastic, since this little thingy is located in another continent. Thanks!

Hi. For my application it would be very advantageous to speed up the boot time of the device as much as possible. The application depends on the network, and unfortunately it seems it takes a while for the interface to establish a connection. After plugging in the device, I count that it takes about 25-30 seconds until my application starts (which is set to start on reboot by cron). However, at that time, the network is still not up, so it matters little that the application has started. It takes another 20 seconds or so until the device is reachable by the network. So total 45-50 seconds from boot. Why is this? I see in systemd-analyze t…

Hello Armbian Community, As you can see by my post count, I am new to Armbian, but so far have found it to be an amazing resource, and truly appreciate the hard work you all do. Its really impressive, and your knowledge and understanding of SBC’s is incredible. I understand I am venturing into uncharted territory here, and this is absolutely not supported, but it’s a fun project and I am learning a ton. I am asking for help, but realize none may be available. Here is the hardware I have in hand. …

This may not be an 'armbian' thing at all, but if not, maybe I'll get a little direction. My first "image" with armbian I downloaded had some 3.4.x kernel on it. After some learning, I was able to get GPIO to work with it. I had some other limitations though. So, I decided to build my own image (buster) so I could customize it. After booting, I GPIO did not work. I explored this, but was unable to to get it to work. I tried a -legacy version (which was 4.x) but also, GPIO did not work. This is my first sunxi experience. So, I'm not sure of the tricks used to get it to work. Either it's broken, or there are patches/config for the kernel …

Hello, I've copied the Armbian Bionic image onto an SD card (and verified it) and put it into my new Orange Pi Zero LTS 256 MB. I already have experience with Raspberry Pis and Raspbian for a few years, so this isn't entirely new to me. In the process, I unplugged the power a few times after the device has booted up but wasn't reachable via the network. Only then I connected the serial console and investigated further. There I found out that it wasn't actually booting any…

Hi, A few months back I installed version 5.10 on a cubietruck. After setting everything up I configure the system to boot from SD and have the system on SATA. Everything was fine until yesterday. It looks like my SD card is corrupted. I created a new SD card using version 5.14 and booted, after booting I mounted the SATA drive and everything seems fine on the SATA. The question is how can I boot again from SD and use the existing system on my SATA? I don’t want to have to reinstall/configure everything. Thank you Mike

Hello , I'm new to Armbian, I'm trying to create an SD image for an Olimex A13 Som card (https://www.olimex.com/Products/SOM/A13/A13-SOM-512/) + A13 Som WIfi (https: //www.olimex.com/Products/SOM/A13/A13-SOM-WIFI/open-source-hardware). After successfully executing the build and transferring the image to SD with Etcher, the boot starts correctly but hangs on Starting Kernel ... Do you have any idea how to solve the problem? Thanks in advance!

Hi all. This is not Armbian related. But I don`t know where else to ask. I`m doing research on the NanoPi DUO2 running FriendlyCore with kernel 4.14 for my next review video. I would like to film the video with the DUO2. For that I`ve got a camera, it works. But only at 7 fp/s. On the FriendlyARM wiki it sais: I tried searching for kernel 3.4. But I`m unable to find it(I think). This is what I get. I don`t think/know these are useable. pi@NanoPi-Duo2:~$ sudo apt-cache search linux-headers 3.4 linux-headers-3.4.0-1-hammerhead - Linux kernel headers for version 3.4.0 on Nexus 5 linux-headers-3.4.0-4-goldfish - Linux kernel headers for version 3…

I tried to execute `sudo armbianmonitor -v` and I got this result. ``` Starting package integrity check. This might take some time. Be patient please... It appears you may have corrupt packages. This is usually a symptom of filesystem corruption caused by SD cards or eMMC dying or burning the OS image to the installation media went wrong. The following changes from packaged state files were detected: /usr/lib/chromium-browser/master_preferences.dpkg-dist ``` This is from new orangepi pc board and new SD Card with new install OS.

How can I access individual packages that make up the images that are available for download e.g. at https://www.armbian.com/lenovo-x13s/ ? I see only "full image" downloads and no link to information on what was used to build these images. I poked around the dists named "bookworm something" on apt.armbian.com looking for the kernel used, but didn't find any obvious match (no 6.3 kernel version, no kernel that has "x13s" in the package name, ...). Likewise, there is no x13s listed in https://github.com/armbian/build/tree/master/config/sources/families

So I'm trying to modify a certain Mycroft skill (python) to be able to play local news. Here is the commit: https://github.com/marksev1/mycroft-core/commit/164c7207374131ece23a8ddf40c7a7981f3c7084 And this python script uses mpg123 to play the mp3 from the url. 1.) If I play the mp3 in the url from the terminal normally it plays every time. 2.) If I'd try to play it from that python script it only randomly plays and in the meantime i get errors regarding jack. At first, I used 3.x kernel with Armbian_5.30_Orangepione_Ubuntu_xenial_default_3.4.113_desktop.img. This has a problem displaying my hdmi 5inch 800x600 lcd. So I changed the kernel to 4.x with nightly build image, Armbian_5.32.170706_Orangepione_Ubuntu_xenial_dev_4.11.8.img. It displays well from u-boot. For x window, I installed Xorg and ubuntu-desktop. When I run startx, it says unable to connect to X server: Connection refused. What should I do for x window? I want to use Chromium.

Hello all, I wanted to start using the camera on my RockPI 4B today, but unfortunately I can't find an entry for it under "armbian-config" and under "boot/config*" I personally can't clearly identify the setting/parameter for it. Can you please help me with this? That would be very helpful for me, thank you. Kind regards Z. Matthias

Hello, I got a Orange Pi One H3 based board with the usual 512MB DDR3 ram and never used it much but lately I'm trying to use it as an everyday home computer, so I'm trying to push the hardware as much as possible to benefit from any features. I actually have installed latest armbian v5.9.x kernel o.s. with Buster distribution and with some zram usage it's quite acceptable on the speed side. I had to add an heatsink on the SoC cause after latest mainline kernel temperature it seems to get close easier to 80°C degrees and even if I suppose it might work even at these temps, I think it was better to lower it down a bit (probably 5° to 10°C degrees). No overclocki…

Is every 6 hours a good interval to fstrim an SD card? Is it safe for the SD card to be TRIMed often? I know that SD card trimming is not like TRIM on an SSD, but the operation performed on a SD card that supports CMD38 performs a similar function, to tell the SD card which pages do not contain valid data.

Hi All, I have successfully installed a brand new armbian on my H616 OrangePiZero2 Board. I have installed docker and have several containers running on it. one of the dockers need to scan a cifs drive that contains Hebrew characters and it fails on scanning - not retrieving all the files. I have tested the same on a raspberry pi running Ubuntu18.04 and it works great and retrieved all the files without any issues on armbian it was ~300 files and ubuntu ~900 files. The name of the files can not be changed since they are used out side of the docker. basically files are been saved in Hebrew on the cifs mount all the time. I have done a…

Hi, I've already installed Armbian once before onto the SD card of my Rock PI S (Non-flash version). Before upgrading to Focal, I plugged it into my serial receiver in order to verify that I got the procedures correct so when I upgrade I'd get a console. I was glad I did that as I had forgotten I couldn't get screen(1) to work with my serial device as it can't send and receive data at the 1.5Mbs. I ended up using minicom(1). I downloaded the Focal Edge version of Armbian, verified the data with the ASC key, and wrote it to the Micro-SD card. I then booted it and the blue LED started blinking indicating an alive and working kernel. But I got no data over the…

EDIT: All of the below written stuff is outdated and not recommended to run on any Armbian installation anyway. Simply use Armbian with default settings and you're done. In case you want to adjust settings, search the forum for 'h3consumption' utility. EDIT: Please be aware that it seems voltage switching on the various Orange Pi One boards seems to have some tolerances. A user reported his Orange Pi One crashes randomly when staying on the lower voltage with the new fex settings so unless it's confirmed which voltages are really used or how to measure the real voltage the proposed fix here might lead to undervoltage/stability issues on some boards. …

Hi, I have a nanopi neo SBC and my final goal is to get Sunxi-cedrus 2019.03_Release (patched kernel 5.0.0 release) installed on device to test cedrus driver. Did a manual kernel build and tried to dpkg -i *.deb files on the board but the kernel hangs on boot. The espressobin has three ethernet ports. In Ubuntu Armbian, left to right (looking into the ports), they're called "lan1", "lan0", and "wan". The weird thing is that you can't bring them up until you've *first* brought up eth0, which is not associated with a physical port. This causes all kinds of havoc trying to use /etc/network/interfaces/, because it takes a couple of seconds for eth0 to come up, in which time the other interfaces have already failed. 1) What is this mysterious eth0? 2) My attempts to bridge lan0 and lan1 from .../interfaces have failed. Got an example you can give me?

Hi guys, we are working on custom board based on A20, similar to Olinuxino MICRO. Our firmware is Buildroot based, with enabled Cryptodev and openssl with -DHAVE_CRYPTODEV, -DUSE_CRYPTODEV_DIGESTS. I know that we should not expect a drastic performance gain, but I wonder if this thing works at all, since I do not see any load on system level while the user space process still utilizes 100% of CPU on one core. Yes, openssl performance test reports some better numbers after "modprobe cryptodev", but not so good as other people report. I suspect that something is missing. I do not see interrupts with number assigned to crypto-engine in dts. crypto: crypto-engine@1c…

I would like to make myself more familiar with the early linx boot process on ARM (u-boot, device trees and co.) and my idea was that I will start tweaking with something which actually works. I tried to figure out how to obtain the source package for u-boot (in my case for linux-u-boot-orangepi3-lts-current) but the armbian package repository seem to contain obly binaries. Any idea wherethe source packages for this binaries are located (e.g. what deb-src line do I need to add to the armbian.list to make "apt-get source" to work)?

Greetings all! A noob here just starting to explore and grasp Linux, ARM, and SBC's. I hope I'm posting in a correct area; don't want to ruffle any feathers. I've worked with IoT for a bit, while we several Rpi's collected dust until I put one to work with Node Red for a smart-home project. That sparked my interest, and I aquired a used Rock64 board relatively cheap to play. In retrospect it may have not been the right choice but I have it now. After trying several "dis-jointed" OS's steered to by the Pine website, and finding them to only work partially, at best, I came across Armbian after much searching. I'm very glad I did. I find the OS I selected to be very ade…

Hi, I am currently using Armbian on my Pinebook Pro. I am having an issue with the volume up and down keys on Armbian. They are not working; other keys like brightness control seem to work without issues. I have checked the XFCE keyboard application shortcuts and there seem to be two items relevant to volume control: amixer set Master 5%+ amixer set Master 5%- I have checked out other xfce based distros and they don't have these explicit shortcut. Do I need to delete these items to make the volume up/down keys work? I was also asssuming that pulseaudio is the default software for managing volume (not alsamixer). Do I ne…

I have built my armbian system on a Renegade board, and I need to back up the entire system so that I can copy it to other sdcards. Dear all, I'm running Armbian 21.02.1 on the nanopi neo3 (diagnostic: http://ix.io/3y5D) using /etc/network/interfaces and have network-manager disabled (`sudo systemctl disable network-manager.service` ). After a reboot the nanopi was not able to start is networking, it only got a 169.254.6.233 address. After analyzing the situation the network-manager update apparently removed the softlink `/etc/resolv.conf -> /run/resolvconf/resolv.conf` and replaced it with a text file. Can network-manager be changed somehow, so that it ke…

I am trying to install box86 and possibly box64 on my Orange pi zero 2w. Hi, I've got Armbian Jessie setup as I want and wanted to clone it for backup. But when I boot the clone I get errors that lightdm can not start and my home dir is owned by root and is empty. I've used this line to clone (on a Ubuntu machine) sudo dd if=/dev/sdc of=~/sdclone.img and when writing back sudo dd if=~/sdclone.img of=/dev/sdc I've also tried with bs=4M, notrunc, noerrors etc etc What should I do?
