Ubuntu changed the location of the mini.iso file for the minimal Ubuntu (Server?) installer in their file servers (since the 20.04 release), it's now located here: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/focal/main/installer-amd64/current/legacy-images/netboot/mini.iso The docs should be changed since it could be confusing for new users/developers.

Long story short, I accidentally removed all the contents of the /boot folder 😢. I'm running minimal Armbian 24.5.1 Bookworm with Linux 6.1.43-vendor-rk35xx on Orange pi 5 plus. It all started with a failed apt update indicating there wasn't enough space in the boot partition. The update was trying to install 6.1.75-vendor-rk35xx kernel, so I decided to remove the old one from the boot to free up some space. Instead, I accidentally applied 'rm -r' to the entire /boot folder. My SBC is working fine now, but I'm afraid it won't boot on next restart, so I'm looking for a way to recover the files. So far, I performed apt upgrade, which put the new…

Hello all, I succeed to boot on sata usb by seting the UUID of the armbian_root from mmcblk1p1 to sda1 I tested several M2 SSD enclosures both NVME and NGFF most of the time, one in the middle, has a USB Hub and micro SDCARD port. Now if the USB enclosures is not connected, we are stuck in initramfs stage because the UIID partition given in /boot/ArmbianEnv.txt does not exist. I changed the UUID of emmc armbian_root (mmcblk1p1) thinking it would be overmapped with partition of S2 usb enclosure (sda1). It is not the case, it will only boot on emmc , ignoring S2 enclosures when mmcblk1p1 and sda1 shares the same UUID. …

So I'm seeing this up as a media device for my aunt who has nothing but an old crt TV. So I tried h3droid for user ease, but it's not near stable enough and crashes whenever anything is running any load on the cpu. Retro orange pi gives her a desktop and easy interface for watching movies/tv shows and playing old games. The problem I'm running into is I can't get any media file to play. I get sound but no visuals on Kodi and VLC I've tried converting the files from mkv to MP4, I've tried changing codecs h.264->h.265. I don't know what to do because she will never understand/use a command prompt so I wanted to hook her up with something easy.

I am looking to build a stable applicance that is updateable on demand / over-the-air in an atomic way. Ideally, it uses a dual-partition setup, where the is an active rootfs and an inactive one. On update, a new rootfs is streamed directly to the inactive partition, the device reboots to the new rootfs and - if everything runs according to plan - the new rootfs is committed as the new active one. If the reboot fails, the device reverts to the previous (still active) rootfs. This functionality is very common with embedded devices, many using the Yocto project. I'd like to try to use Armbian, however, building the image from source with my own userpatches and i…

Hi, I'm not sure if Debian mainline supports this, but I can't get TV out on this board working after it starts the kernel. The boot loader shows up, but as soon as the message "starting kernel" or something, pops up, the signal cuts out. I've tried changing the boot.cmd, but it doesn't make much difference. I've seen suggestions to break into the u-boot console, but the keyboard doesn't work there. I'm afraid it works only in serial mode. Any ideas? Thanks!

I try to use the pwm from GPIO to PWM control a fan. I would need around 20kHz with a variable duty cycle. As far as I understand I need to activate the pwm overlay, but its only available for the h5. Can I change the UART or I2C overlay to achieve this or should I try to write my own overlay? Is that even doable?

Using my Orange Pi Zero 512 H2 I want wo build a POE-powered display, displaying the current time, time until the bus leaves and ideally some information on bus schedules I can pull from the API of the local bus network. What I currently have is an Orange Pi Zero 512 H2 and a POE injector where I can insert any voltage as it does not run with standard POE voltage. My plan is to buy this e-paper display https://www.waveshare.com/wiki/7.5inch_e-Paper_HAT_(B) and have the Orange Pi display a simple HTML page. So my first question is: Would this display run, would it be a good choice for my setup? Are there any similar projects (yes, I searched) that…

It seems my OrangePi Prime was loosing stability over the years. It was working fine initially, then it was hanging up from time to time - and now it no longer can boot on stock armbian settings. It bootloops on "Starting kernel ..." in serial console. But when I set voltage to 1.3v in armbianEnv.txt - it booted ok. So it seems to be a hardware issue. Does anyone know if there is CPU VDD test point somewhere, or which regulator is responsible for CPU voltage?

Greetings, Apologies for the naive question - I'm no linux expert. I've just set up the latest focal on a r4s. I can login on both the wan and the lan interfaces. On the wan side, I have address:192.168.1.2/24 gateway:192.168.1.1 and dns:1.1.1.1, on the lan side I have 192.168.0.1/24. Hi, My Nanopi M4V2 runs perfectly on Buster. The Nanopi runs stable and I don't have any issues for my use-case. It runs 24/7 and is only accessible through Wireguard. On the website from Debian it says that there are no security updates anymore for Buster. Does this also apply to the Armbian version? Of could I just keep running Buster if I keep kernel and software up-to-date? https://www.debian.org/releases/buster/ Thanks for the help, Lennyz

Good morning, I'm triying to move to armbian for tinker. Currently i'm using Debian Distro from Asus for tinkerboard and i want to move to a CLI only OS. Armbian seems to be the best option for what i want, but currently i'm unable to use the GPIO pins on the tinkerboard2. I tried to install wiringpi from here (https://github.com/TinkerBoard/gpio_lib_c/tree/sbc/tinkerboard/c) but i always recieve an error code. Anyone facing this problem? Any help will be very much appreciated, i really want to move to a non-GUI OS, but asus does't offer any option besides uninstalling X-10 GUI Thank you for your time

Hi, I'm trying to build an image on Windows. But when running compile.sh, I get the following error: [💲|💥] Problem detected [ WSL2 Terminal does not support UTF-8 ] Full log: https://paste.armbian.com/zopitumatu I don't know why this is happening, I've tried both cmd, powershell 5, powershell 7, all with the same result. The log mentions the Windows Terminal in the Microsoft Store should support it, but that already is installed and seems to just open the same Powershell 5, with the same error. Any idea on how to fix this?

So, before some days I've updated some packages - so I can't say which update cause the following described problem: The Odroid boots up and doesn't do a dhcp query - the eth0 interface won't get any IP-Address. According to this, to run u-boot from flash I just need latest u-boot, apply patch from the link (CONFIG_SF_DEFAULT_BUS=1), copy config to .config, build it, flash it to SPI and it should work? I did that and for my SOM-RK3399v2 (I have added SPI flash 16 MB chip to it), it starts to boot and it got stuck on line: Trying to boot from SPI I am trying for weeks, tried various .configs/OFFSets/various config options/printf debugging/... , various binary files (for RockPro64, PineBook Pro, Roc-PC, etc) and same error. Hello all, Im new to Armbian and sbc's. I have a OPi Z+2 and NPi Neo Air and they are both being used for the same purpose, will use 2x UART and I2C. I will add software bundles to Debian image for production use. Can anyone tell me if I can use the same Armbian image on both devices ? ie make a single image and then just rely on the Overlay selection on the image to allow our custom software to access correct GPIO automatically for both board types ? Thanks for any advice. Chris

Hello! I have a stash of OPi H3 boards and it just occurred to me that there's no way to interface them with a storage device in any decent way. What am I missing here??? I also have a lot of 100 GB SATA SSD's, and I thought to myself, wouldn't it be great if each SBC could have its own SSD. But then I realized... how the hell am I going to get any kind of decent IO? If it's not possible with SSD's connected locally, let's forget them and then think, what other storage device can I use so that my OPi boards have some respectable IO device to work with? Please tell me where the gap in my understanding is?! Thanks!

I'm trying to get OctoPrint to work on my Pine64 to control my Qidi i-mate(s) 3d printer. I've done a fresh install of Armbian on the Pine64 with no problems. I'm not sure where to go to troubleshoot the USB-ttl serial connection. I've double checked that the cable is installed right on the Qidi motherboard, this application doesn't need the vcc connected so the other three are. I've tried enabling the UART's in the armbian-config with no luck on the connection. While I've used Linux for quite some time, I'm not familiar with this sort of thing and I'm not even sure where to start the troublshooting. I can easily provide additional logs. This is on an …

Hi Can any one tell me how to access the GPIO from user space, I have tried this: sudo echo 203 > /sys/class/gpio/export But get this result -bash: /sys/class/gpio/export: Permission denied It's of course some thing really simple, but I haven't been able to find any thing which can lead in the right direction. I have tried adding user account to the /etc/sudoers By inserting this: # See sudoers(5) for more information on "#include" directives: #includedir /etc/sudoers.d mabzy ALL=(ALL) NOPASSWD: ALL

Hi, Could anyone please help me to configure CB3 and the subboard RAID? In fact, I own a CB3 and the RAID subboard with two SSD 120GB that I bought at Cubietech three years ago and I have already assembled it. I use the Armbian distribution for Cubietruck and I installed it on a SD Card, but now I would like to install this distribution (Armbian for CB3) on the two SSD from the SD card. If I type the following commands 'hwinfo --block' or 'fdisk -l' or 'lsusb' or 'lsblk -o name' at the prompt (as root), I do not see any SSD except the SD Card (mmcblk0) I also launched 'armbian-config' but nothing appear in the menu about that. Since some H2 and H3's run hotter than some people would like, and people are measuring voltages etc I thought I'd make the following warnings for your benefit in the hope that we collect quality data and solve all challenges quickly. Measuring voltage accurately Your DMM (digital multimeter) may lie to you. Measure the input voltage as well as the test voltages before posting voltage readings. Check with the resistance setting that the resistance of your probes touching each other is close to 0 ohms. I own many DMM's and one of them reports horribly inaccurate voltages when the 9v battery is near or less than 8v. If your DMM sucks, buy a better one (link at botto…

Hi, I upgraded 4.13.16-sunxi to 4.19.47 Seems all went fine. but after reboot the former 4.13.16 kernel is still active. My cubietruck runs sd-card+ssd with system moved to ssd by armbian-config. Maybe the issue has to do with the sd-card/ssd booting sequence? If I have the sd-card/ssd system up and running, will the sd-card be touched with later kernel upgrades too, or just the root system at ssd? Holger armbianmonitor: http://ix.io/1Lit

Not sure if this is considered an appropriate request for the Armbian forum, but I'll give it a try. New installation of Buster server 4.19.62-sunxi on OPiZero 512MB, with 32GB SanDisk A1 card. Hi folks, i was running Openmediavault 5 on an BananaPi M1 with Amrbian Buster for years and it worked all fine. Now i "upgraded" to an M2U because of the RAM and real Sata support. I installed the newest stable buster image 20.08 (also tried old ones and the nightly) because OMV does not support bullseye yet. After this, i just did "apt update" and "apt install armbian-config". I have choosen in softy the OMV setup. I also tried it again with the OMV install script for Armbian. In both cases i couldn't install it. I waited with softy almost 24h to install it, but it got stuck (no cpu usage, nothing happens). …

Hello, I've been playing on my Raspberry Pi 3B+ with an I2S audio amplifier and could play music from it. Now I want to add more devices to experiment with multi-room systems. The only other system with I2S support I have here is a NanoPi NEO. It has dedicated I2S pins so that shouldn't be too complicated. I thought. But it doesn't work. 'aplay -l' says "no soundcards found" and 'speaker-test -c2' essentially says the same. 'armbian-config' doesn't have a switch to enable I2S, only SPDIF, which sounds plausible considering that the SPDIF pin is multipurpose while the I2S pins are not. A web search for several terms didn't bring up something useful.…

Apologies, the links on how to change the Armbian boot kernel don't lead to any documentation. I am wading through the u-boot documentation tree now, but somebody may have an answer to a simple question. I manage to make my device unbootable by using armbian-config and selecting a development kernel vmlinuz-4.20.0-rockchip64 I have mounted the disk on a ubuntu laptop and I take it u-boot is similar to grub2 in that its not just a case of changing the symlinks Image -> vmlinuz-4.4.167-rockchip64 Uinitrd -> uInitrd-4.4.167-rockchip64 you have to do a grub2-mkconfig command \ grub-update in order to boot strap t…

Hi, I have an OrangePi_4b (RK3399), mounted in aluminum case, in which I am going to install armbian. I also have a mini-double fan that I want to attach to the outside of the box, to cool it. The approximate power consumption of this mini fan is 300 mA. According to the orange pi 4b manual, I find these Gpio: PIN1 VCC3V3_SYS PIN2 VCC5V0_SYS PIN4 VCC5V0_SYS The questions (to whoever can answer or has experiences) are: For those pins respectively, what is the maximum consumption per pin, measured in milliamps? Is it feasible to connect the mini-fan to Gpio (V + GND)? If possible I am thinking both 5V (pin2 and pin4) an…
