  1. hi, I plan to turn my cubietruck IR gateway, and home theater controller. The first thing to do is to be able to decode any remote control can be used with lircmd. Is there any reason with llmnr has been enabled on each interface while mdns has been globally and x interface disabled? I have some weird issues with llmnr that I don't have with mdns Just to detail my above sentence (on windows pc): when I ping just ipv4 (ping -4) hostname is solved just the first time, subsequent request can't find host when I ping ipv6 or default (ping -6 or just ping) hostname is always solved

Hi all I need to develop a customized application on the OrangePi that uses this Allwinner H3 chip. So everything about this is the standard Armbian, with one change- I need to add security code into the loader to secure the board Prior to this I have only ever developed superloop C code on processors such as these i.e. no OS present. In those cases we had the development tools from the vendor or a JTAG probe. What I need to do is I need to customize the loader code to do certain security tasks. My question is, where is this loader sitting? (presumably its in the FLASH), and, is its source part of this distribution? Also, when they ma…

Good afternoon! Tell me about the case, please, the post is great, but maybe I'm initially going the wrong way. Initial task: data exchange between a remote server and equipment with a USB interface and CDC RS-232 or HID protocols. Putting a computer / laptop next to it is not an option. I did not find any ready-made solutions, there are only options: 1. Single board computer. Fast, cheap, angry, easy to make a case and PoE power from ready-made components on the market. 2. Arduino - to assemble from prototyping boards is long, difficult and expensive. To develop something of my own - the navel will be untied with my knowledge. 3. Hardware "e…

Hello, I have a few small questions: Cubietruck with latest Armbian Two log folders, /var/log and /var/log.hdd, the first kept in RAM that's regularly copied to the SD-Card, keeping the wear of the SD small This used to work flawlessly, I don't know when this changed Lately I realized that the RAM-disk is flooded very quickly by something that is writing to /var/log/journal/random_hex_number/ until it runs OOM. Almost all other logs are empty, likely because a lot more gets written to the journal log. Unfortunately the content of all files in the journal subfolder contain binary data, the only commonality I see is that all files start…

What is the supported way, if any, to redirect /var/log.hdd to a directory located on a real HDD drive? One of my systems has an eMMC to boot and operate from, and a HDD hooked up on the USB3 port. "Ideally" I'd like to use only the HDD, but the poor/incomplete USB3 boot support on the Rock64 V2 (with Bionic at least) had me to buy an eMMC and live quietly with it. As it is, I'd like to move out of the eMMC all the data that is either written often, or that it could get bigger with time passing. For the logs, however, I don't think to have found a clean way to support the relocation of /var/log.hdd on a different drive/partition, unless I hack the armbian-raml…

  8. Due to systemd, Journal is going to replace all journals sooner or later, it's already one of the busiest journaling on the sytem. The logs are binary and can't be rotated like text logs, they are already compressed and can't be read by text editor, instead only by journalctl. Thus, in /usr/lib/armbian/armbian-ramlog , the directory /var/log/journal is excluded from standard log rotation and copying to HDD. Instead, it is copied once to /var/log.hdd/journal and a soft-link is created: /var/log/journal pointing to -> /var/log.hdd/journal . The RAM logging was introduced to spare the SD card, preventing many write actions that wear the SD card qui…

Now my problem is i used raspi-config to set login after POST in CLI in Rpi but in armbian we dont have this config thing and I want to make the system login at CLI then I could either continue to use CLI or go into gui mode by typing startx. Any ideas for this? I have tried systemctl enable multi-user.target but it seems nothing change and I also tried to find the directory of grub but there is none at armbian. Many thanks, Gabriel

Except now there is lightdm-gtk-greeter process in the background that is taking 100% CPU usage in full clock speed, the board became hot (>70 degree Celsius) very quickly. …

  26. Hi, I am using Nano Pi Duo2 (Allwinner H3) with latest Armbian OS. My goal is to have all the OS and Data on SD Card Encrypted. It should be secure from hacks. Has anybody implemented it on Allwinner H3 ? Is there alternative solution to secure the data on the device.

Hello, Armbian devs, I have customized a kernel for an existing Armbian system. I wish I can replace the kernel on the system directly without going throught Armbian build system. According to what Martinayotte told me, there are 3 symbolic link to kernel image, dtbs, and uInitrd actually to boot. While I have done first 2, and I know that I have to do "mkimage" to generate a u-boot compatible uinitrd for sure. But... How can I produce the original initramfs, first? I trace the log of Armbian build system and found out it's generated by update-iniramfs command. But the environment is wiped out after it's done. I'm not sur…

I am experiencing frequent kernel panics with the RockPro64 board and assume it could be a power consumption issue with the SSD (PCIe NVMe M.2). I tested a variety of different SSDs, with the Cruzial P1 being the most reliable. Is it possible to manually throttle an SSD within Armbian, forcing it to consume less power? In my case, peak performance is not really important. This would allow me to further validate my thesis. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Dear all, so after switching from bananian to armbian around half a year ago, I've made several updates to the bananapi server running. As the prototype server is still running with bananian, some problems just occured as I am now testing a fresh install of my web-package, including nginx, mysql, php7 / laravel and some other stuff. So what I realized was that the database, even on a fresh install, is extremely slow. I thought the newer setup with debien stretch and mariadb 10.1+ might be the problem, yet running the same on the older armbian jessie build did not change anything. I also set up a fresh virtual machine running debian stretch with two cores,…

I went into a problem after setting up mariadb / nextcloud installation nativ on my armbian installation odroid n2. per default the logfiles for mariadb (bin files) are logged to /var/log which is only 50 mb because of in memory usage (zram). So after some usage the whole installation stucked because of "out of disk usage" in /var/log. So I stopped nginx, php and mariadb and created a new logfile location in /var/log.mariadb and changed the necessary entries in /etc/mysql/my.conf and started the necessary services again. For now the usage is propper again in /var/log. Maybe this is useful for other people or other had another solution for this. …

Are there any plans to add support for the MCP7940 real-time clock? It's much cheaper than the DS1307 and mostly compatible. The biggest difference is Reg0b7 which is "Clock-Halt" in the 1307 but "STart" in the 7940. The 7940 also has some extra register bits like OSCEN which are default 0 in the 1307. I tried naively enabling the rtc-ds1307 module and it didn't work. An actual DS1307 chip worked immediately (just hot-plugging the break-out boards while executing "hwclock -rf /dev/rtc1").
