Hello, I would like to know how they reduce the size of the images and then, when the microSD cards are inserted into a card, they expand to fill the entire space. In other words, the same thing that Armbian images do when we use them for the first time: they are small, and then they occupy all the storage space.

Most of the time our Arm computer does nothing and the CPU is around 40º, and therefore no fan is needed. But sometimes they work a lot and the fan is really necessary. So I wonder if a 5V fan connected to the gpio pins can be used and that the same board sends power to the fan when for example the CPU exceeds 60 °. And below 60º the orangepi that cuts the current to the fan. Can it be done without external components?

Hi all, We are now using ARMbian build tools as our 1st choice for all future DietPi SBC images. Currently, we support these devices that use ARMbian at their base: BPI Pro BPI M2+ OPI PC NanoPi Neo I'd like to increase this so we can support more boards with the same ARM SoC (eg: H3). Unfortunately, like most, i do not have access to every SBC out there. As we do further manual optimizations to the ARMbian images, after compile (eg: DietPi-RAMlog, DietPi-RAMdisk, package removals, prep for DietPi scripts etc etc), having the SBC device is essential to creating our image. I'am curious to know if the following is true: Are the Sun8i compiled kernels and mod…

Hi, I have an OrangePi_4b (RK3399), mounted in aluminum case, in which I am going to install armbian. I also have a mini-double fan that I want to attach to the outside of the box, to cool it. The approximate power consumption of this mini fan is 300 mA. According to the orange pi 4b manual, I find these Gpio: PIN1 VCC3V3_SYS PIN2 VCC5V0_SYS PIN4 VCC5V0_SYS The questions (to whoever can answer or has experiences) are: For those pins respectively, what is the maximum consumption per pin, measured in milliamps? Is it feasible to connect the mini-fan to Gpio (V + GND)? If possible I am thinking both 5V (pin2 and pin4) an…

hello guys, how to activate bridge mode between the 2 ethernet ports of R2S (WAN and LAN) which are referred to as eth0 and lan0 respectively, so as both of them have the same ip address. i tried this https://wiki.debian.org/BridgeNetworkConnections#Manual_bridge_setup but when i reach the command which adds interfaces to the bridge (# brctl addif br0 eth0 lan0)then the ssh connection is lost. i noticed something as well, in interfaces file i added eth0 and lan0 and gave each one a different ip. but then it seems as is now i have two IPs but for the same port (WAN), and no ip for lan port!!!

Hi, the hardware in question: PCIe_TO_2-CH_SATA_HAT+ In expectation for the Rock 4D forum to arrive I am posting my issue here: The Rock 4D works and all is well The two SATA drives work over USB to SATA adapters - that is not ideal in the long term IMHO The HAT just arrived and i have no doubt in my mind that it can be defective in any way - i assume it is 100% operational. But when i connect it and plug the power in the Rock 4D boots, everything else works as usual, but the HAT just sits there without any signal. My questions: 1. How do i query the eeprom via the pins 27 & 28 (ID_SD & ID_SC), do i just enable the i2c_6 overlay? …

Can anybody help me with this? Thanks!

Hi So I installed the minimal IOT version on the eMMC and I am struggling with it as on login, the temperature is at already 73C then ends up having a forced shutdown after like 5 minutes. I don't see why this is happening as it's literally doing nothing on the command line. Any ideas on how to fix this? I was expecting this to idle around 30s, not reach 90 in an air conditioned room. Thanks.

Hi, picked up a Rock 5b+ as it looked like the exact right board hardware wise and the rk3588 is getting a reasonable amount of support and happy to see it's officially supported by Armbian. Was able to build and flash the UEFI image and boot into the Fedora installer which would allow a RAID install but unfortunately it doesn't support either the PCIe bifurcation needed for both m.2 slots to work or the hardware acceleration for transcoding. It looks like there's progress being made by Collabora so eventually mainline support should be good enough but for now I'm looking to use Armbian with the BSP kernel as able to boot into it with both drives being de…

Hi All. As you may have read at my HDMI post, I have tried two different OpiPC images, the default one here, and the current RetrorangePi. On the first one, I used this tutorial: and it worked perfectly, well almost. I got some errors because the usbids isn't on here, nor is modprobe. But it worked. Then I tried the retro image and went back to do the same process, but no matter what I do I can't see to get rid of error messages. I've tried to put ARCH=ARM and arm. I've tried TARGET=LINUX. None of the tips out there seem to work. pi@RetrOrangePi:/usr/src/DPO_MT7601U_LinuxSTA_3.0.0.4_20130913$ sudo make ARCH=arm make -C tools …

Ramlog.service postrotate will execute a cat from /var/log.hdd directory to /var/log directory while rsyslog.service is always outputting stuffs in the background to /var/log directory. This in general has no problem except for some files which are mostly preoccupied with output from rsyslog during logrotate activation, namely syslog and a varieties of journals entries. I have found some of these postrotate failures with cryptic messages as write errors from cat and corresponding rsyslogd omfile module stating lost messages. I suspect two independent processes competing to send output to same files hence causing these errors. I don't know enough of detail but I think ther…

Ever since I updated the BPi recently, the ramlogger stopped working. I'm regularly getting mail from the Cron Daemon saying this: /usr/lib/armbian/armbian-truncate-logs: 19: /usr/lib/armbian/armbian-truncate-logs: logrotate: not found … so, it looks like the paths are messed up since the program is definitely installed in `/usr/sbin/`.

I have got Armbian OS noble kde-neon 25.5.1 installed on the Raspberry PI 5 16GB. Please help with any advice on how I can fix this. I have also never used Linux before so I would also appreciate any advice on which applications is critical to start getting into robotics or other nice projects on the Raspberry PI. Hi all. For gaming on the Raspberry Pi 4 there is nothing better(opinion) than TwisterOS. It is Raspberry Pi OS with a lot preinstalled tools for gaming. Also very nice skins to make your OS look like old Windows versions, or even MacOS. You can play old Windows games with it thanks to Box86 + wine which is preinstalled and configured. Also native x86 Linux games run amazingly well with it. There is a Steam client preinstalled. Is must say I've never used it, since I've never used/liked Steam. You can download TwisterOS here : https://twisteros.com The official TwisterOS reviewer on Youtube is @Salvador Liébana and his colleague from Pi Labs : https:/…

A problem I'm having with my fresh install of Armbian Bionic on my Libre Renegade board is that I cannot use the user login due to read-only file system warnings. I've reinstalled Armbian mutiple times on multiple chips, but even the recommended A1 SD doesn't work. I'm not sure where the problem lies. Is this strictly a hardware issue? Is there any non-extensive ways to workaround or fix the problem in the terminal? I'm not too familiar with Linux terminology, but can figure out common terms. I can supply more in…

Hey guys, I'm trying to find a way to read the values of the LRADC0 and LRADC1 of the A20. Those ADC are usually used for android-style buttons (labeled "VOL+", "VOL-", "MENU", "SEARCH", "HOME", "ESC" and "ENTER") which are connected to a low-resolution ADC via a resistor network. But I want to use the ADC for another purpose and I just need to read values between 0 and 63. Now it seems there is already a driver which let you setup the android-style buttons in the DTS (as can be seen in this patch) But I can't find the code of this driver, which I could use as a template. Any idea how to find the driver ? Or…

I know it sounds crazy. But at least every 1 out 3 reboots, the sbc will shutdown instead (no hdmi output) and not boot back up. Rebooting in terminal whether remotely or locally will have the same effect. And when it fails to reboot and just shuts down instead, my linksys router (ea9500) disconnects the internet (devices still connected to router). I have to power cycle the router to get it working again. This occurred on a fresh installation of the current focal releases. I would say I had to restart my router at least 15 times in the past few hours, and every time it happened was when the reboot command failed. The sbc is connected via ethernet, and the internet…

the version number of zfsutils-linux was too low for the new version of zfs-dkms. So I downgraded zfs-dkms but the recent version of linux kernel was too high for the old version of zfs-dkms. I tried armbian-config to change the version of the kernel down to 6.6 from 6.12.18 but somehow it just repeatedly tried to build dkms modules for 6.12.18 again and again so I just gave up using armbian-config. I eventually replaced the linux kernel and headers with the older version 24.8.2 ( sudo apt install linux-image-current-meson64=24.8.2 linux-headers-current-meson64=24.8.2 linux-dtb-current-meson64=24.8.2 ) After these downgrades ZFS st…

Hi! I need to use the UART1 port on my NanoPi NEO. This usually means just adding "uart1" to the `overlays` in `/boot/armbianEnv.txt`. What I would like to do is build a custom image that already has the overlay activated by default. I read the following documentations: - https://docs.armbian.com/User-Guide_Armbian_overlays/ - https://docs.armbian.com/Developer-Guide_User-Configurations/ But couldn't find anything about it. At first I tried to define the `DEFAULT_OVERLAYS` env var in `userpatches/config-example.conf` since I noticed it was defined in the configuration for the board, but it didn't work. I manage to make it work by …

Hi all, I'm looking for an sbc with low power consumption, but still able to run linux (arduino like solutions are somewhat unflexible, and take longer to configure). Basically it should be able to do rs232 and be able to store data to an sd card. It should be able to run approximately two weeks on batteries. Wifi/ethernet/hdmi are not required if there is a way to use a serial console (apart from the extra rs232 which is connected to our measuring device). I already own a banana pi (original) and raspberry pi zero (apart from other boards which draw much more power). Are there any boards I could check out that have significantly lower power u…

I have changed the sysctl.conf by adding few parameters and it seems that i broke the system now, system is not loading and it's stuck in boot at the following step : [ TIME ] Timed out waiting for device dev-ttyGS0.device. [ TIME ] Timed out waiting for device dev-ttyS0.device. The question is how i recover my system. Is there anyway to recover the sysctl.conf file or any other way to stop the booting process and login to revert my changes? or another way to fix these timeout messages?

Hi, I have a Helios4 NAS I haven't used in over a year. This NAS have 4 HDDs set as a RAID5 in it with valuable information that I need access to. I've installed Armbian bookworm and found that there is no /proc/mdstat file from which to recover the RAID5 array. I am now at a loss on how to rebuild the RAID5 array and regain access to the information on these drives, from what I read, mdadm was removed as a feature in more modern distros and is no longer used. I've installed mdadm however still no /proc/mdstat from which to recover the RAID array. Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to rebuild this array and use it in my bookworm d…

I have done a firmware update on my Compulab Utilite Pro using u-boot compiled from source. However something went wrong, leaving me with a bricked board. In the manual it is mentioned, that the iMX6 has 2 boot-modes. The recovery-mode can be configured by switching some pin to a high-level. On the PCB I can not find any jumper, that allows me to do so. Question: Does anybody know how to switch the Compulab Utilite Pro to the recovery-mode? Thanks in advance

Unfortunately I was very hasty and in connection to my goal to copy between sdcards I used Paragon disk manager to shrink my original partition. Like I mentioned... bad move. I can not believe it can be complicated... and again I have no idea what to do? Any help.... /R

I just released Armbian Focal Desktop MAINLINE images for Khadas VIM3 Pro. These are individually, pure arm64 and hybrid arm64/armhf variations. Thanks go to @lanefu for key pointers in understanding how to "re-arm" the firstboot and firstboot-config mechanism in current-state Armbian. Please offer feedback and experiences if you test these. The images are currently hand-built, but if enough interest is generated, and time permitting, I will commit to a git fork for an unsupported standard building process. I have more detail on the distribution site at archive.org, and in the corresponding posts to the Khadas forums: …

I have a pair of Orange Pi 3's acting as redundant PiHoles on my home network. After a bit of tinkering and configuring, I have them set up the way I want, and would like to keep them that way. Of course, a good backup plan is essential to this. Looking online, I found Image-Utils for Raspberry Pi, but that is limited in support for only the Raspbian OS. Is there a good system out there to make a cloneable image of an SD card in an Orange Pi, either from the Pi itself to a remote source (NFS mount, etc.), or from a remote source pulling from the Pi? I'd like to schedule this as a CRON job, so that in the event of a hardware failure, I can just re…

I used armbian-config to install remote desktop service on an Odroid C2. Works great. When I add a user via command line (adduser), when they log in they get messages for authentication for network services. I also note it doesn't show the XFCE splash screens like the original user does. It can't browse anything on the wifi network but it can get through on the ethernet network. I assume I haven't added the user to the proper groups - can someone tell me what groups, or if I'm barking up the wrong tree?

Hi Guys, I have noticed that camera connected to OPI, has several frames lag. I capture image with very high speed (50 fps, camera also gives about 50 fps). Min for V4l2 is 4 buffers, so it gives about 80ms of latency. I cant find a way how to decrease this buffer count to 0 to receive the latest frame. I assume that I need to change some line in kernel and compile it. However, I cant find where exaclty.

Hi, I know at least some distributions don't remove modules of currently running kernels. Even when upgrading kernels and modules. Also, armbian has files like /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/01autoremove etc, which look like they're meant to accomplish the same (protect selected kernel modules from removal), but have in fact no effect (by default). How can I prevent removal of files on upgrade (specifically, kernel modules)? That is, enable the /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/01autoremove and related things to have an effect, or set some other option to do something similar. Actually, I would also prefer to keep a few previous kernels and support …

I'm using the latest WIP config for the NanoPC-T6 build. I've discovered a problem that I don't have using an official FriendlyARM Debian image on the device. I have one HDMI output connected to a dual input screen in desktop mode. It works fine if I select the NanoPC-T6 screen input from the start, but if at a later stage I swap the screen input to a different source and back again, the NanoPC-T6 does not output video. I can ssh to the box but there is nothing obvious in either dmesg or syslog. summary-build-476d3c90-225f-4793-8dbb-01abf490e940.md

Hi, I'm trying to generate a U-Boot for my OrangePi Plus board (H3). I'm using the Denx 2021.10 release and have tried the standard defconfig for this board and also variations of this config. Starting the kernel is fine but the kernel crashes/hangs when starting if I'm using HYP (nonsec) mode. Starting in sec mode works but this only enables one of the four CPU cores. The kernel crash/hang occurs while executing "udevadm trigger --action=add" but I can't determine exactly what is being enabled when the error occurs. Trying different kernels (including the Armbian 5.10 version) show no difference. The Armbian U-Boot (2021-10 dated August 2…

I've got a quick question about the Armbian Ubuntu Xenial install. I want to make sure I'm not in the wrong here before looking around for where to submit a bug report. It seems that at least on the C2s, & NanoPI Neos that I have that the /etc/resolv.conf file is not a link to /run/resolvconf/resolv.conf. That doesn't seem right to me, is there a reason it's a regular file and not a link? It messes things up when moving the computer to different networks as it doesn't update with new DNS settings. Possibly more glaringly it could be a security issue for those unaware or not paying attention while using things like openvpn.

Hello, I installed Retroarch from the repos, tried to install a "core" from the Retroarch updater but no cores were available. I searched about that if the installed version is too old no cores will be available, so I added the Retroarch ppa and installed the newest version, but got the same problem. Does Retroarch work under Armbian? Do I need to manually install "core" binaries? If so, where can I get them? Thanks.

For my Orange Pi PC, I just switched from the buggy debian-image to Armbian. Armbian works fantastic, but there is one small problem with my ssh reverse tunnel. On the (old) debian system i had my script tunnel.sh: #!/bin/bash /usr/bin/autossh -p2000 -fNC -R 9000:localhost:9091 -R 5057:localhost:4949 -R 8000:localhost:8888 -R 10012:localhost:22 myusername@www.mydomain.com The remote Pi will call my gateway Pi at port 2000. Whenever i call the gateway-ip:9000 i am at port 9091 on my remote pi etc. Worked flawless.
