Hi!! I have a radxa rockpi4 and I cant replace the kernel that comes on it (4.4? dont remember). its from the official radxa page because the two versions here didnt boot at all (red lights). My main goal its to test panfrost. I am not familiar with armbian at all. I've tried utilising the defconf from radxa (https://github.com/radxa/kernel) with https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/panfrost/linux fork and mainline from torvalds and none of them boot when replace the Image, the dtb (and change it on armbianenv.txt) , install the modules ande the firmware... first. how i could follow the boot process...see the console output like on raspbia…

On my Orange Pi Zero I run Armbian Buster and the only software running is Shairport. Unfortunately I used to have a crackling noise every 20-40 secund which was solved after entering root@orangepizero:~# renice -n -19 -u shairport-sync 110 (user ID) old priority 0, new priority -19 So far so good - but after a reboot the prio is again 0. So I tried to use nice nice -19 shairport-sync but after a reboot the prio was again 0 How can I set the priority of all process run by the user (-u) “shairport-sync” to -19 when they start?

In the newest image "Armbian_21.02.1_Rockpro64_focal_current_5.10.12_desktop.img" I downloaded the "Armbian config" the Source download choice box does not have the version "5.10.12" as a choice. The "headers" option does download the proper version. How do I get the source for it?

Hi all, I have a working Pinebook Pro Focal build with LUKS encryption enabled. The only issue I have is that when booting no progress or password prompt is displayed. As soon as I enter the password and hit enter I see the boot logo or console output depending on what is set in armbianEnv.txt. I will be continuing my research and learning about the boot process in general but wanted to check in here to see if people had any obvious pointers to share or whether maybe this is a known limitation that is going to be hard to resolve. Thanks, Matt

Hi everyone! First thank you for providing this beautiful piece of software, Armbian rocks! I am running Armbian 22.02 Bullseye on my Odroid HC4. This week I installed Armbian on three BananaPi M5s. The OS ran fine from SD card, but once installed to emmc (using armbian-config) the system booted with a message that the file space available was zero. In the case of one of the boards I found an 8GB .img file in /media/my userid/. I assumed it was a copy of the 8GB SD card, and I deleted it. The system is fine now. But in the case of the other two I have yet to determine what is consumbing all the file space. There are two empty directoris in /media (mmcboot and mmcroot). Any idea what is causing this and more importantly how to fix the two existing systems? Thanks, Paul

Because OpenElec ist no available for Cubietruck, i start to try and play with your armbian builds. But i have no luck, maybe because i am a linux noop. Hi, Since yesterday's new 4.8 kernel announcement was having at least one Allwinner CPU supported with I2S in a DTS include file, (sun7i-a20.dtsi), I hope some knowledgable brilliant minds will come and give a similar solution for H3 and the many today's boards that contain this CPU. Christos

Armbian is community driven open source project. To keep it relevant and up to date it needs maintenance round the clock. Hi there, I am new to the community, but read it for quite a while. I try to bring my own smart mirror project to life. So far everything runs good and I am pretty impressed with all the efforts you guys put into Armbian. There is one little thing that I can't solve my own (due to limited coding capabilities). The supported resolutions doesn't offer the one supported by my 10,1" Tontec display. It is connected via HDMI and offer a resolution of 1280 x 800px. Where 1280 x 720px work it stretches the content, which makes small copy unreadable. I found several threads where users discussed about this resolution. Would it be possible to make this reso…

I'm trying to create an access point on a Tinker Board S with a MT7601U wifi dongle, since the wifi that it incorporates I could not make it work. When I configure the AP, this message appears. Are there any commands to show information that could tell me about the level of power consumption ? E.g.: energy saving state of CPU or the like ? On the SBC i am using, i think the power consumption is lower when running the same setup with kernel 5.4, and higher with legacy kernel 4.4. Alas, 5.4 has other problems, so i want to try to figure out what settings/features reduce power consumption in 5.4 and maybe i can then configure them equally in 4.4. This is rockpi4a rockchip3399. If there is nothing generic enough about the topic, i can ask on the forum for that chip.

Greetings all! A noob here just starting to explore and grasp Linux, ARM, and SBC's. I hope I'm posting in a correct area; don't want to ruffle any feathers. I've worked with IoT for a bit, while we several Rpi's collected dust until I put one to work with Node Red for a smart-home project. That sparked my interest, and I aquired a used Rock64 board relatively cheap to play. In retrospect it may have not been the right choice but I have it now. After trying several "dis-jointed" OS's steered to by the Pine website, and finding them to only work partially, at best, I came across Armbian after much searching. I'm very glad I did. I find the OS I selected to be very ade…

Cross-posting from the Radxa community, because I've not had much luck getting replies over there, and hoping this forum is more active. I’m in the process of porting a VISCA/NDI camera controller from Raspberry Pi to run on Rock Pi (4B+ version 1.73), and I’m running into some serious GPIO hardware failures that I don’t quite know how to deal with. As a starting point, I took a pre-built collection of LEDs and disconnected them from a working Raspberry Pi setup and connected them to the Rock Pi. They all worked fine when driving them from the Raspberry Pi, so I’m reasonably certain that the problems are specific to the hardware or drivers on the Rock Pi …

Hi @all, i built this: https://www.instructables.com/DIY-Lyric-Monitor-for-Stage/ running armbian-OS. In order to have an external power switch, i made this: using pin 7 and gnd and it works! the script is successfully doing a shutdown. but, to run that program ("pushbuttons.c" compiled to "pushbuttons") in anything other than root, he wants the password. and i really dont know how to add it to autostart (in "settings"), because i dont know how to fill in the "command" field. like "sudo ./program"? Thank you so much für any help.

There are already several boards with the small SPI flash installed. This is perfect for the u-boot storage. Hi, I am currently using Armbian on my Pinebook Pro. I am having an issue with the volume up and down keys on Armbian. They are not working; other keys like brightness control seem to work without issues. I have checked the XFCE keyboard application shortcuts and there seem to be two items relevant to volume control: amixer set Master 5%+ amixer set Master 5%- I have checked out other xfce based distros and they don't have these explicit shortcut. Do I need to delete these items to make the volume up/down keys work? I was also asssuming that pulseaudio is the default software for managing volume (not alsamixer). Do I ne…

In Alsamixer its missing the master volume. In older legacy images it was there and driver seemed to be a tinker rockchip driver? Any idea how to enable the master volume slider? There are some errors also the moment i log into cli if I do above. If reproduced ill post here (update). I have built my armbian system on a Renegade board, and I need to back up the entire system so that I can copy it to other sdcards. Any good suggestions?

Hello, I am planning to desgin a Computer-on-Board, but would like to know what are the minimal specs needed for it to run a graphical user interface with a desktop. Doing a simple Google Search gives me two answers: "512 MB RAM memory, at least 8 GB of storage (on a quality SD card or eMMC), a 4-core processor, and wired networking. For a more advanced Armbian build framework, you'll require a system with at least 8GB of RAM and 50GB of disk space, although specific requirements vary depending on the hardware." My main issue with this is that it doesn't explain directly if 512 MB of RAM and a 4-core processor (and what frequency?) are enough for the most ligh…

I have an Odroid-C1+ running some version of Armbian (I forget the details, exactly) - it's been happily working for a while, but recently that board went dead. I finally got a serial console on it, and captured the output below. Pretty clearly, something is wrong, and it being a cheap flash card, I bet the card itself is going bad. My real question: does anyone have a good suggestion how I can recover anything there is to recover from the SD card before setting up a new one? It's been long enough since I set up this device that I'd prefer not to start from scratch if I can avoid it. I'm not much of a Linux guy (usually NetBSD/MacOS), but I do have a U…

I have a carrier board from codico: https://www.codico.com/en/carrier-board-h-home-control-evb-for-red-yellow-beet-modul I've followed the pdf file from the above link to set up a Rasperry Pi and it all works fine. However, when swapping for my NanoPi Neo Core, even though the drivers load correctly, and I see SPI comms going back and forth on the oscilloscope, I am not connected to the internet. Every build against mainline I do for either 4.4.96 or 4.13.11 ends up with a port that doesn't properly detect link status (up or down) and doesn't receive any traffic.

I have problem, I am not able to get console working to access my nanopi neo air. PSU is not issue, opi+2 runs with same power w/o issues. Sdcard is not problem either. Tested with more than one image and based on how onboard leds behaves, i believe that system boots up ok. Now the question: How to modify image on sdcard so that it connects to my WIFi (WPA2-PSK) on boot automatically making ssh to nano working? Or should I mount image, before writing to sdcard, and do the needed changes inside mounted image? What and how? Thanks!

I was hoping to use the same type of backups for my Armbian Minecraft Server as I currently use for my RASPBX system which uses Raspbian on a Raspberry Pi 3 and sucessfully updates a backup of the entire SD card every night. I successfully modified and ported the RASPBX-BACKUP script to other Raspberry Pi's I have that are fulfilling other tasks and they also make backups just fine. The are also running Raspbian. I ported to my Le Potato running Armbian and when I try to run the initial backup it chokes with the following errors: rsync: symlink "/media/bkup/boot/dtb" -> "dtb-4.14.52-meson64" failed: Operation not permitted (1) rsync: symlink "/media/bkup/boot/uI…

Hi, Hobby-level user here. New to Armbian. Trying to get Nextcloud and PiHole installed and running on my Odroid HC1. I use Tailscale as a VPN and would like to be set up to use both the pihole's ad-blocking and Nextcloud from outside my LAN. I've gone through set up and install of both. Armbian-config>Softy reports both installed and running. Nextcloud The Nextcloud activation page is visible at https://192.168.20.100/activate/ When I go to https://nextcloudpi.local:4443 I get nothing - it seems to get stuck at the DNS lookup stage. Hello Armbian, how does kernel update procedure work? There is the script [1] that indicates that kernel was updated. Is that updating procedure automatic? When does that happen? Has it user under the control? Many thanks for clarification. Rostislav [1] https://github.com/armbian/build/blob/master/packages/bsp/common/etc/profile.d/armbian-check-first-login-reboot.sh

I reinstalled my OrangePi5 with a newly built debian12 based image and in the middle of setting up the third one I lost SSH connection. Now I have 2 OPi5 with the Armbian MOTD and whatever unseen setup that occurs behind the scenes and a third one where I manually configured locales and tzdata. Is there a way to re-run that first login script manually? Thanks

Hi. I'm using Armbian Jessie(Legacy) on Cubietruck. My cubietruck's cpu temp. is aruond 77~79. Is it too hot? If it is, how can I lower the temperature? One more thing to ask. How can I see the temperature? I could see it when I log in to Armbian, but how can I do it manually? Could this be one of the method? cat /sys/devices/platform/sunxi-i2c.0/i2c-0/0-0034/temp1_input Thank you for reading.

On my NanoPi Neo Air it seems there is no pull up resistors on I2C (SDA, SCL). Is it possible to enable pull-up on these pins in a DTS overlay (either the standard i2c dtb or in a user overlay)? If so could anyone give me an example of how to do that...I have tried to understand the dts files but failed.

Hi, I have two Opi in the same LAN (Ethernet wired) and trying comunicating each other (client-server TCP/UDP) The issue is: From a Laptop in the same LAN, both OPI are detected, and I can ping and SSH both of them. DHCP works fine, they have intertet... all seems to be ok... But, none of the OrangePI are reachable (not even ping) from other OrangePI in the same LAN!!! Thanks in advance in case anyone could support. It is getting me crazy. Hey there, has someone got bluetooth working on his Banana Pi M2 Berry? I looked up that the bluetooth chip (ap6212) is connected via UART3, so I changed the "ttyS1" to "ttyS3" in /etc/default/ap6212, but the service 'ap6212' crashes with several input/output errors. While reading about similar problems with different boards I discovered that the ttyS3 / UART3 is not enabled on my device, at least "dmesg | grep ttyS3" does not find anything, while "dmesg | grep ttyS0" and "dmesg | grep ttyS1" does show that these devices are enabled. There adding the lines "overlays=uart3" / "param_uart3_rtscts=1" helped them, but these lin…

Hi, yesterday i did as usual an apt-get update/upgrade on my Armbian 19.11.3 (on a good old and always well working Bananapi M1). After that the desktop starts, but without showing the taskbar anymore. It was some kind of invisible, when i clicked the the upper left corner, the menu drops down. Unfortunately nearly nothing starts by clicking. The preferences are shown without any icons. Ok, time for a fresh install. I took the latest stable image Armbian Bionic 19.11.6 and put it on a SD card. System starts in console mode, i did all the setup stuff and installed the desktop. But the fresh installed desktop also started without the taskba…

Hi there, I would like to have a Docker container accessing the GPIO on the Orange Pi Zero. For the time being, I'm using OPi.GPIO as a library to make a LED blink, but will use Java-Periphery and SSD1306 later on. As for now, the LED is blinking, all is fine. What I would like to do now it to create a Docker image from Armbian doing the same thing, so I was thinking of starting the image from scratch with Armbian root directory. How could I find/make a minimal Armbian root directory to build my Docker image upon? Thanks.

I'm trying to add the optional input-debounce to the GPIO G ports of my NanoPi NEO (AllWinner H3) with a device tree overlay, but my overlay merely manages to brick the device. Here is my overlay, of which I've tried several tweaked versions: /dts-v1/; /plugin/; / { fragment@0 { target = <&pio>; __overlay__ { input-debounce = <1 1>; }; }; }; I create the file on the running device and I use 'sudo armbian-add-overlay <file.dts>' and reboot to test my changes. I'm using <&pio> as the target because I see in the device tree that &pio is a symbol to "/soc/pinctrl@1c20800". As for…

Ramlog.service postrotate will execute a cat from /var/log.hdd directory to /var/log directory while rsyslog.service is always outputting stuffs in the background to /var/log directory. This in general has no problem except for some files which are mostly preoccupied with output from rsyslog during logrotate activation, namely syslog and a varieties of journals entries. I have found some of these postrotate failures with cryptic messages as write errors from cat and corresponding rsyslogd omfile module stating lost messages. I suspect two independent processes competing to send output to same files hence causing these errors. I don't know enough of detail but I think ther…

I have followed this guide and I can boot my Orange Pi Zero from SSD without the need for an SD card inserted. I want to keep a bootable backup for my system in case the SSD gets corrupted. I was thinking to clone my system in a USB stick (just like I did to clone from SD to SSD) and then use rsync once a week to keep everything up to date with a script like that. If I go in armbian-config > system > install I can see only one option: "Install/Update the bootloader on SD/eMMC". How could I clone from SSD to a USB stick? Is there a command like `sudo nand-sata-install`?

Hey guys and a happy new year! I am working on a custom H3 board and I just got the prototypes from the oven. I am now trying to boot armbian on them. And as it's first prototypes I expected problems but I have trouble figuring out. I think it's because of my lack of understanding the boot process. See picture of the board enclosed. It don't tell much but it's nice to have a visual I think. On top right is a battery manager/power input. Right under is AXP8036 that makes 4 buck channels (1.35V for ram, 1.2V sys, 1.3Vcpu and 3.3V) Most is similar with orange pi PC schematic, there is few changes : - crystal and wifi is sa…

How to unbrick the system? When something goes horribly wrong and you can not boot the system, this is the way to proceed. You need some Linux machine where you can insert SD card failed. With this procedure, you will reinstall the u-boot, kernel, and hardware settings. In most cases, this is enough to unbrick the board. You should check the file system before mounting: I do not understand

Hi, toying around with Odroid C1 kernel compilation and trying new kernels (both 5.0-rc2 and the mainline amlogic kernel) there are some patches that do no apply correctly. Both general-packaging-4.17-next.patch and general-increasing_DMA_block_memory_allocation_to_2048.patch apply correctly if I remove the part of the patch referring arm64 architecture: is this fine? For sure Odroid C1 is a 32-bit SBC.. does anyone knows why there are references for arm64? If you agree I can create a pull request to remove those lines... Thanks **Bye Piero

I've built Armbian for my purposes with the following build settings: ./compile.sh BOARD="bananapi" BRANCH="current" RELEASE="focal" \ KERNEL_ONLY="no" KERNEL_CONFIGURE="no" BUILD_DESKTOP="no" EXTERNAL="yes" \ INSTALL_HEADERS="yes" .. and the board boots from the resulting image just fine, and seems to be running well. Now, I want to clone a repo onto this board, and use the ONBOARD compiler for development purposes .. Hi, I normally use Proxmox on Intel Nucs (also Buster based) and also had here usbip with some USB sticks on a USB hub. Hello dear Armbian Community, I've been trying to get a custom M.2 PCIe Adapter Board, based on the ASMedia ASM1182e PCIe Packet Switch, to work for a couple of days on my NanoPi M4V2. After solving a few other issues, where it didn't even finish pci link training, it's finally being sort-of-recognized by the SBC (Atleast PCI ID [1b21:1182] is being read). But now, whenever the Adapter is plugged into the SBC, it doesn't boot and aborts with a kernel panic. I've read about this issue already in other forums and it seems to be a common problem with the PCIe Implementation on the RK3399. Usually, one just implements a delay between pci link training and scanning…
