Edit: Issue is solved, see here. It's an application problem but according to an extensive Google research this does not seem to be a common problem of Samba, so it might be an integration problem with the environment it is running in. The setup: Armbian 19.11.6 (Debian Buster) running the current kernel on a NanoPi M4V2, offering network shares via Samba. Clients are Windows 10 and a BananaPi running Armbian (Debian Buster 4.19.y kernel) as well. The observation: When downloading (large) files from the Samba share to Windows 10, the download speed very often suddenly drops down to zero and stays on that rate (forever). This can be best…

Just installed Armbian_21.05.1_Orangepipc2_buster_current_5.10.34 plus kernel headers and am now trying to build some kernel modules for it on the device itself, but the build script is complaining: File not found: /lib/modules/5.10.34-sunxi64/build/.config at ./scripts/make_kconfig.pl line 33, <IN> line 4. Is there any place where I can find this file for the stock kernel? Or a procedure for generating it myself? Many thanks.

I was experiencing slow writes to internal SD card and hard drives connected to an USB 2.0 hub on multiple Odroid HC1. IOWAIT was 99.99% most of the time during large file copies. I found that Armbian was simply waiting too long to write data to disk. Kernel parameters are optimized for writing small amounts of data to SD card when running from that in order to reduce wear. If you have the same problem, you might get factor 10-100 faster writes using the following sysctl settings: vm.dirty_writeback_centisecs=50 vm.dirty_expire_centisecs=50 No need to act, if iotop shows low IOWAIT values on your system.

Hello! In the process of setting up the settings in my new Armbian Bionic install on a 16 GByte installed MicroSD, I tried to set the clock preferences in the XFCE4 but as soon as I close the preferences application, it reverts to an invalid state and the clock disappears. It wasn't a fresh MicroSD and I'm concerned that it's trying to "save on a bad sector" or something when I set up the preferences. Is there a way I can test for the possibility that my MicroSD is wearing out? The power supply I'm using came with the board and has been adequate for all other OS uses. It may just be a file permission bug or something needing a "sudo". Either way, I'm conc…

Hello All, I installed Sonarr and found it had trouble reading from my nfs mounts, only seeing one folder, which turned out to be mono's issue. I used a snapshot of version 5.20 from the raspbian repo apt install apt-transport-https dirmngr gnupg ca-certificates apt-key adv --keyserver hkp://keyserver.ubuntu.com:80 --recv-keys 3FA7E0328081BFF6A14DA29AA6A19B38D3D831EF echo "deb https://download.mono-project.com/repo/debian stable-raspbianstretch/snapshots/5.20 main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/mono-official-stable.list This is working fairly well for me so far and I will post back if I run into problems. OrangePi Zero headless server Debian Buster with Armbian Linux 4.19.62-sunxi armbianmonitor http://ix.io/26Dp Selected to install Sonarr in armbian-config which completes without error, but armbian-config does not indicate that Sonarr is now installed (i.e., I can still select it and do the whole thing again). Appears that armbian-config installs Sonarr as a service, but it doesn't appear to be running after I reboot (http://192.168.1.99:8989 gives error connection refused). Looks like Sonarr relies on mono, but mono has not been installed at /usr/bin/mono. Did I fail to do some required post-armbian-config steps?

This isn't Armbian per se, but I thought it worth mentioning for anyone considering a SOPine Baseboard. Pine chose a small coaxial power jack instead of the micro USB for the main 5V input. This jack is kind of an odd size, but it also seems pretty fragile, especially when the extra leverage of a power cable is added to it. I broke the mount on mine within the first 20 minutes of use. It still worked as it was just the mechanical mount, but it became position sensitive and a pain to use. You can still power the board via the Euler bus, and that's what I switched to instead. If this isn't appropriate for this forum, please feel free to move it (or d…

Trying to clear boot sequence from errors while building mainline version with following parameters: I found error sunxi-nmi: unable to map resource. After investigation, I found: 1) there is no nmi controller on A64, according to last version of Allwinner A64 manual; 2) nmi is added into DT by patch add-A64-nmi_intc. patch. I created a user patch reversing this patch, but it could be better if this patch is removed from A64 as it is usefull only on other chip. Question: is my opinion on this topic ok? Who is in charge to solve this conflict between me and the guy who added this patch? Mike

I recently had a sopine module start to fail on me. The symptom was most boots would fail partway through the boot. It would just stop, serial console output stops, the board powers off. Note that this is identical to lower power but in this case was not (I have multiple sopine modules and work with them daily). I successfully mitigated this issue by underclocking. Specifically I did three things: Underclocking in U-Boot I added the following line to `/boot/boot.cmd` and compiled the file: mw 0x1c20000 0x80000900 Per the Allwinner A64 manual (p84), this sets the CPU to the lowest clock speed possible: 240MHz. The formula use…

I am planning to buy a SopineA64 set of modules and the Cluster board. (clusterboard) I would like to know if someone here made a cluster. I would like to create it with Armbian since I am an enthusiastic Armbian user. I would like to create a real cluster and not a list of computers unified by a board. I mean to have the disk united and ram united. Something of real cluster computer. Sorry for my english.

I would like to make myself more familiar with the early linx boot process on ARM (u-boot, device trees and co.) and my idea was that I will start tweaking with something which actually works. Hello I've previously build and deployed an armbian image for a pinecube using "bionic" which used kernel version 5.10.60. I have recently tried to build and deploy a new image, but the kernel is now 5.10.72 which wouldn't normally be a problem, but I have found that I've not been able to get gstreamer and some of it's dependacies installed. Is it possible to specify a particular kernel version when I'm building an armbian image, in if so how do I do it? Thanks in advance Andrew

Looking at lscpu reports turns out that my board is vulnerable to spectre v2 because eBPF is enabled. I tryed to disable it by using sysctl but it seems it doesn't work (this is the solution used by ubuntu distributions to solve the problem 'sudo sysctl kernel.unprivileged_bpf_disabled=1 or 2'). I'm on Debian version. Is this option kernel dependent?

Following a successful deployment of an MCP2515 SPI to CAN device with the great help of https://forum.armbian.com/topic/3588-can-bus-support-orange-pi-zero/ I’ve been looking into using an SPI to CANFD device with the orangePi R1 (H2+ based). (CANFD allows greater bitrate than the “regular” CAN) I am looking into using the driver made for the mcp2517fd/mcp2518fd, which has been submitted but not yet linux mainlined: https://github.com/msperl/linux-rpi/tree/upstream-v5.0-rc3-mcp25xxfd-v6.11/drivers/net/can/spi/mcp25xxfd This driver seems to be functional with the raspberry pi, and an example of PCB and associated overlay can be seen here: https://github.com/…

According to this, to run u-boot from flash I just need latest u-boot, apply patch from the link (CONFIG_SF_DEFAULT_BUS=1), copy config to .config, build it, flash it to SPI and it should work? I did that and for my SOM-RK3399v2 (I have added SPI flash 16 MB chip to it), it starts to boot and it got stuck on line: Trying to boot from SPI I am trying for weeks, tried various .configs/OFFSets/various config options/printf debugging/... , various binary files (for RockPro64, PineBook Pro, Roc-PC, etc) and same error. U-boot flashed to SD/eMMC works. SPI flash works in Linux:

Hello, initially, I would like to thank the Armbian project for making many of these SBCs that aren't so common usable with such a good distribution. I'm using a Banana Pi M2 Zero, and the manufacturer provided Android image didn't boot at all and I got concerned I had a brick. However, Armbian has multiple images for this board available and, right now, this board is running Armbian 21.08.6 Focal using the kernel Linux 5.10.60-sunxi. The performance difference compared to a Raspberry Pi Zero is dramatic. And it even has a Mali 400! Step by step, I'm getting more features on the board working, either by reading Armbian documentation or user contributions. From…

Is the SPI kernel driver enabled by default in 5.16? If not, how can I enable it in armbian (what are the magic steps raspi-config makes to enable it in raspbian - I'd like to make the changes manually in armbian) By default I can see dmesg | grep spi [ 0.454454] sunxi_spi_chan_cfg()1376 - [spi-0] has no spi_regulator. [ 0.454468] sunxi_spi_chan_cfg()1376 - [spi-1] has no spi_regulator. Hi! I want to write SPI slave custom driver for H3. For this I need to cut off existing SPI Master driver. I did this during configuring Armbian 3.4.112 in image build process. In my spi protocol driver I send large buffers of data to be transferred. I am not interested in the data received so I leave the rx_buf as NULL. In the controller driver they have code to implement this use case: https://github.com/allwinner-zh/linux-3.4-sunxi/blob/6964d467510849e3e262518cb87bff7ef92e01f5/drivers/spi/spi-sunxi.c#L1003 However the transfer never completes and the kernel logs a time out for each transfer after 120 seconds. I have tried modifying the driver with various options like disabling the SPI_GC_TP_EN, which pauses transmit when the receive fifo is full, but it has no effect. Finally after hours of futile tinkering I decided to change m…

Hey. I'm working on getting a small touch screen working on my OPiZ+2. It's a Waveshare 4.3 with a resistive touchpanel (using HDMI for displaying). I've had some issues getting the touch panel to work, and just wanted to share my findings, and ask whether I have misunderstood something. I manually added spi-spidev and spi-add-cs1 to to armbianEnv.txt. I also added the parameters: param_spidev_spi_bus=1 param_spidev_spi_cs=1 (took me a bit to figure out that I…

Both my Orange Pi Pc and Orange Pi Zero have horrifically slow/laggy/issues with SSH. Random drops, connection issues, and EXTREME lagginess with keyboard input. Greetings everyone! I'm having some issues with my Armbian installation. I have an Orange Pi PC 2 (64 bit H5 SoC). Thing is I don't own a keyboard and a HDMI cable, or UART cable, so I went for this "headless" approach. I know it's possible, but SSH won't …

I've also checked the IP address wich is allways the same because I used the address reservation feature of the router (of course, there is a fixed MAC address on eth0), when I apply the command ssh -p 22 root@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx on the uxterm of armbian it shows the shown in the attached image "resulado de usar ssh" and like I said, the answer of power shell is connection reset on port 22 for that server. the ssh_co…

Hello. Some time ago I worked with an LCD display with st7735 driver on my orange pi zero and the kernel 4.19y. I make it work very good following many instructions found in web pages (like this: https://www.instructables.com/Orange-Pi-Zero-Connect-TFT-SPI-ST7735/). But now is not possible to find any image with this kernel in the official download page and, with the new kernel that method does not work when y try to use the modprobe fbtft_device. I've been looking for possible solutions in order to make it work but usually I fail because language is very technical, my knowledge about drivers is superficial and English is not my native language: …

Hi, I try to connect a tft 240x240 display via SPI with my BPI m2zero and i am looking for a suitable library written in C. The display uses ST7789 driver and it will be used in combination with thermal camera. I've tried to use producers library for RPi https://www.waveshare.com/wiki/1.54inch_LCD_Module but the screen only blinks when i run a program with test bitmap. I tested it on Arduino and the display works fine. If someone was able to run such a display, can you share your library? Thanks for all the help

I am looking for recommendations, the outstanding group here has knowledge of pretty much every board out there I would think. I have had to abandon my OPI projects today. They are just not stable/usable. A board specific crash at every turn. Comes with a legacy kernel that doesn't even support a working BTRFS. The up to date mainline kernel is also far from working I am told. Ethernet masq causes reboot, out of memory killing processes/servers while there is lots of free ram and swap, SD slot crashes periodically making the system unusable till the storage is removed and is checked/repaired by a working system. So, even working around everything, with a repla…

Hello, I just bought a new OrangePi 2g-Iot. I'm a total newbie in embedded linux (I work with embedded microcontroller). What I would like to do is to use some of its peripherals like LCD, modifying the kernel and make some graphics with Armbian and QT. Starting from my first tasks, what are the necessary step to: Enable peripherals Modifying some drivers (like UART, for example I would like to implement the TX enable by hardware) Installing some drivers (like LCD) Thank you, Mattia Berton

Hi all I am using the Armbian 5.32 OMV image, recently the startup message stopped working after a hard reboot. Any ideas where the startup script exists (the one which displays Welcome to Armbian and all the vital stats) or how to troubleshoot such issue ? The amrbianmonitor logs is available at >> http://sprunge.us/QLfq9F Thank you !

Hello, I'm a newby in linux and armbian. I'm trying to force static ip on my sbc, I followed some hints on internet adding file to interface.d folder, directly in interface file (both created on purpose by me). Interface is enP4p65s0 and I replaced in exaples eth0 with this (auto enP4p65s0 iface... etc) but it seems none works. armbian-config seems to do nothing (it seems broken) Anyone can route me to some doc?

I've been trying to setup my Orange PI PC to be my file/media server. I used a "HOW-TO" on setting up a static IP address. It seems like it is working for me except I can't seem to connect to the outside world. In the process of setting up my samba server, I have found that I have no internet connection because I can't run "apt-get update" and if I open a browser I can't reach any web-page. Does anyone have a first step or idea to get me setup correctly? Samba post to come in separate thread.

I am thinking about the Over-scan on first boot issue and the problems people are having trying to log in if the login questions are off the screen bottom. I under stand it is caused by not having a lot of development into the screen size adjusting software. It is essential that the lead developers prioritize the main Armbian bugs issues and I do not consider on the fly screen resizing a major issue when a stop gap solution could possibly work. My temporary solution would simply be that all logins scripts be tripled. ie.. Login login login: password password password: Enter New Password Enter New Password Enter New Password: S…

a Few days ago I started noticing strange behavior with calls failing and pods with valid imag tags not working and finally figured out what seems like armbian stopped trusting any certificates. When I apt update I get errors (certificate something something) When I curl google.com it says invalid certificate and have to use --insecure for it to work. I've run update ca-certifactes -f to try and force it to trust them again but no real idea of what is wrong here.

Trouble setting up lvm2. vgcreate wrong because drive order is not now the plugin order on hub according to dmeg. interchanged cables vs ports for out of order discovery and rebooted but problem unchanged ack dmesg. So how do I blow away the volume_group that does not get made due to this error, so I can re vgcreate a new lvm? An hour later, I have tried, rearranging cable vs ports on the hub but the rusty drive stays at /dev/sdd# when it was /dev/sdf# b4 everything was partitioned. What the heck is going on? For this to stand a snow balls chance in hell of working, I MUST have stable drive id's. Can vgcreate use PARTUUID's instead of /dev/sda /dev/sdb etc as identifi…

Hi All, I have a strange prob regarding Armbian on my Banana Pi. I have installed vanilla Jessie on my BaPi (1st modell with an SD, not uSD). I have also installed tvheadend, lighttpd and the kernel-nfs-server (beyond the packages already in the image). The BaPi is connected to a switch (no WiFi), and it is headless. When it starts all works as expected. But after some hours logging in via SSH stops working. The sshd itself runs, if I try to login (with pubkey auth) I can see that the connection to the sshd is successfully established, but when the shell should be started it hangs forever: debug1: kex: server->client aes128-ctr hmac-sha2-256 none debug1: kex:…

Hello, I'm running some busybox scripts in infinite loops. I have used them from long time, before I move to armbian, they work on openwrt without any problem , some of the machines was with uptime half a year and scripts never stop working. After I move to armbian, I noticed they stop from time to time. usually after 4-5 days of running. Script is run with output redirected to /dev/null There is no trace why script is stop working in the logs, so I run it in screen terminal and detach, it works more than a week without failing ........... is there a better way to see what is going on?

Hi I am having problems with my OrangePi +2e. It may be failing and need replacing but I would like to make sure it is not some other issue first. I use the OrangePi +2e as a Network attached audio (NAA) device for HQPlayer running on a MacMini. Since installing Stretch . The NAA now shows H3 Audio Codec as well as the usb input for my digital audio converter. This did not show up when using Xenial. Is there a command to disable H3 Audio Codec? it may be causing a conflict issue? I am unable to return to Xenial as NAA software no longer supports it. Thanks in advance Carl Mawer

Hi I would like to run my OrangePi +2e with absolute minimum power consumption ie no display, no wifi, reduced clock speed, etc. I only really need ethernet and USB function. When I first set the OrangePi +2e up I ran Armbian Jessie and there was a package that I downloaded from one of the forums that allowed me to manage such things. I can not find this package again. I don't know if it would work with Stretch. The Armbian Config might do this instead? Any help greatly appreciated. Regards Carlos

I think I have a bad gc2035 module that I'll soon put aside, but there's something odd I don't understand. Since it's cheap it doesn't merit a lot of attention, but I've got something that doesn't make sense to me. If you understand, please let me know. An image at 800x600 is messed up with horizontal stripe artifacts (fswebcam -r 800x600 -p YUV420P -> foo-800x600.jpg) But an image at 1280x720, while blurry, does not have the stripe artifacts (fswebcam -r 1280x720 -p YUV420P -> foo-1280x720.jpg) Why aren't stripe artifacts in the higher resolution? I thought the sensor was completely trashed, but it produced a halfway decent image when aske…

Hello armbian friends, I am not really a beginner but I don't find a fitting forum to ask this. Having manually upgraded the first day it was possible to Bullseye, my MOTD and armbian-release got stuck on the old version. Since I was looking up which boards would make a proper NAS and home automation hub, I figured I might as well summarize the options in a post. Requirements for a proper NAS: Gigabit Ethernet SATA that is not a crappy USB->SATA chip Armbian-supported That last one is because otherwise the options are much more numerous and scattered, and the previous requirements become vague (e.g., you could even just take out a netbook's motherboard and run it standalone). Also, you could use an A80 board (USB 3.0) but I believe none are supported by Armbian, same goes for R40 (has SATA), so this leaves us with these A20 boards that also have GbE: _______________________…

Hi all, I bought a Orange Pi PC 2 a year or two back, loaded the Armbian image successfully and tweaked it until it was just right for my application.
