I'd like to hear some opinions and recommendations for the use case I'm considering for this SoC board. My experience of Linux was mostly artix to arch to NixOS I'm still a new user around 2 years± on Linux and this would be my first experience with a SoC board. I'd also want to put it in some kind of PC case

Hi everyone, I’m working on a custom Armbian build for an RK3588-based board (cm3588-nas) and trying to completely disable the Rockchip crypto driver (rk_crypto2), since it's negatively impacting LUKS (AES-XTS) performance. Despite several attempts, the module continues to register algorithms in /proc/crypto after boot: driver : rk2-sm3 module : rk_crypto2 driver : rk2-sha512 module : rk_crypto2 driver : xts-aes-rk2 module : rk_crypto2 ... ------------------------------------------------------------ What I’ve Tried ------------------------------------------------------------ 1. Looks like at present Armbian is based on LTS only. I am in particular annoyed by the outdated Samba release 4.3.11 in Ubuntu 16.04 and thus Armbian. Any chance that there might be a variant of Armbian adopting intermediate (yet stable) releases in the future? Or is there a way to upgrade Armbian or Samba without compiling myself? Thanks Joachim

On attempting to disable `sound.target` in a Nanopi Neo3 I noticed that both `alsa-state.service` and `alsa-restore.service` use the same `ConditionPathExists=!/etc/alsa/state-daemon.conf` (apparently called Card State Management Schemes). This contrasts with the unit files on my host system, with `alsa-state.service` using `ConditionPathExists=/etc/alsa/state-daemon.conf` and `alsa-restore.service` using `ConditionPathExists=!/etc/alsa/state-daemon.conf`. What is the reason for using both services within the same scheme?

Test version 20221216-legacy for rk3399 (Station P1). The kernel 5.10.11 is used instead of 4.4. Some of the functions are not working yet. Switching to this version will get rid of a very outdated version of the BSP 4.4 kernel.

I am working with a nanopi neo. The overlay documentation says the default pps pin is PD14. How do I cross reference the gpio names in the overlay documentation to what the documentation on friendlyelec site. I dont see anything close to a PD14. None of the pin assignments match whats in the manufactures documentation. The I2C pins and a few others are clearly marked from the manufacture, so I could give that a good guess. Other than that, where do I find or how do I figure out which pin does what? Rob

What is the supported way, if any, to redirect /var/log.hdd to a directory located on a real HDD drive? One of my systems has an eMMC to boot and operate from, and a HDD hooked up on the USB3 port. "Ideally" I'd like to use only the HDD, but the poor/incomplete USB3 boot support on the Rock64 V2 (with Bionic at least) had me to buy an eMMC and live quietly with it. As it is, I'd like to move out of the eMMC all the data that is either written often, or that it could get bigger with time passing. For the logs, however, I don't think to have found a clean way to support the relocation of /var/log.hdd on a different drive/partition, unless I hack the armbian-raml…

Hi there, I am using SD Card Copier on Raspbian to copy one Raspberry microsd card to another (can be smaller than original card) and it works great. But when I used it to copy armbian microsd card to another microsd card, another microsd card is unable to boot. Any idea what can be wrong? I love this approach because I am able to copy original card to smaller card but unfortunatelly Armbian OS is not able to boot (on the other hand Raspbian boots ok). When I use Win32DiskImager to copy Rasbian and Armbian, both new cards boot up successfully. Any idea please how can I use SD Card Copier installed on Raspbian to copy microsd card with…

Could the maintainer please rebuild the package? The package linux-source-4.19.20-next-sunxi has the kernel source code in a tarball linux-source-4.19.20-sunxi.tar.xz, but that tarball has an error in it. Hello everyone, I'm new user about SBC and armbian. I recently purchased this SBC - purple-pi-oh (rk3566, Number/type of interfaces similar to Raspberry Pi), It has opened up its linux sdk and more. Because its default image version is older, and does not support k3s, cilium, etc (I'm a k8s ops), so I want to use armbian with it. I first directly downloaded and tried all rk3566/3568 images of other SBCs, such as station m2/station p2/Bananapir2pro, etc., and the most pleasant surprise was that using the station m2 image, purple pi oh almost works (can run through the installation process, mouse/keyboard/hdmi monitor works fine), t…

When attempting to update to the dev kernel I ran ' apt-get install armbian-firmware sunxi-tools swconfig a10disp ' per the instructions. It is not finding the swconfig and a10disp packages with the standard repositories active (I have done apt-get update). If these are in an alternative location, perhaps add a line in the kernel update instructions (for various Orange Pi in my case) to add it. I see one older message referencing it being available on a beta site. The same command is present for the non-dev instructions. It also seems odd that a10disp is listed for these H3 based boards (but there is also no h3disp package). Are the instructions wrong/old…

Hello everyone, maybe I can get a solution here. My banana Pi M1 mainly runs as an energy-saving recording module for web radio etc. and is occasionally updated "by hand". Since I felt the bananian was hopelessly outdated, armbian runs on the dwarf. Recently there was also the update from 5.10 to 5.15. Kernel included: linux-dtb-current-sunxi/focal 22.02.1 armhf [aktualisierbar von: 21.08.2] linux-image-current-sunxi/focal 22.02.1 armhf [aktualisierbar von: 21.08.2] Unfortunately, the banana Pi can no longer be shut down cleanly, kernel panic, hangs and does not switch off. Reinstalled the old kernel and stapled it down, all good a…

Hi there, I have been using a nanopi m4v2 for openmediavault for 4 years. In that time my SD card has died once. Now I have ordered an emmc module to do a full clean install of my server. So my questions are, is it wise to boot from the SD card and have the system on the emmc because the sd card can die faster? And if I boot from the SD card and it needs to be replaced, can I just insert a new one and everything will work as before? (With a freshly installed Armbian) If I do a backup of the emmc with win32 disk imager, can I burn the backup to a new emmc with a different sd-card as boot? When I do an armbian install, does it copy the system …

I am trying to remove a USB DBV-T receiver from the craptop to a less noisy Orange PI Zero (OPI0). I had to compile tvheadend and some modules but when I playback video I noticed that the output stalls (using the Ethernet, not the crappy WiFi). After checking a lot of things, I noticed that CPU usage was high (because of something else) so I bumped the governor up to performance from on demand. I stopped everything and retested by switching between ondemand and performance governors every 30 seconds. During the 30 seconds I noticied continuity errors only during the 30 seconds of ondemand. Is there a problem with the ondemand governor? …

Hi I am having problems with my OrangePi +2e. It may be failing and need replacing but I would like to make sure it is not some other issue first. I use the OrangePi +2e as a Network attached audio (NAA) device for HQPlayer running on a MacMini. Since installing Stretch . The NAA now shows H3 Audio Codec as well as the usb input for my digital audio converter. This did not show up when using Xenial. Is there a command to disable H3 Audio Codec? it may be causing a conflict issue? I am unable to return to Xenial as NAA software no longer supports it. Thanks in advance Carl Mawer

Hi all, I can't find any documentation (i prob just don't know where to look), so just a quick question: I have a Mi Box S, and i can run Armbian fine on it, it uses "booti ${kernel_addr_r} ${ramdisk_addr_r} ${fdt_addr_r}" to load the kernel images, i'm assuming they are all unsigned. But i would also like to run unsigned app images (openElec/emuElec/etc) which use "bootm <kernel_addr>" but those return an error: aml log : Sig Check 1467 So my question is are you guys doing any "magic" to get it to load, or does "booti" not do a signature check where as "bootm" does? Thanks.

Soo, few weeks ago, I left the Orange Pi Zero unpowered. Then, now, after I power it on, I quickly ran the 'update' and 'upgrade' commands to upgrade my system... Well, then I ran 'armbianmonitor -m' to check my CPU's temperature and to see if I had installed the cooling fan correctly. Suddenly, I noticed its clock speed is no longer 1200Mhz maximum. I was freaked out then, so I quickly checked the CPU's lowest and highest clock speed using 'cpufreq', and it said that the maximum speed is 1008Mhz (About 1,008ghz), and the minimum speed is 120Mhz (About 0,12ghz). I don't understand why :v I only left it unpowered for a few weeks and now its clock speed just got decreased f…

Hi, I'm using raspberrypi ili9488 GPIO LCD (Image here) and I was able to make it working with notro's fbtft drivers and it works fine. What I am trying to do now is to control the backlight or just turn it on and off inside my application with a linux command or for example by turning on and off a GPIO pin but I was not successful. Turning on a off the +5v and +3.3v did turn the whole lcd of and when I turned it back on it did not work and I had to restart the system. I managed to control the backlight by using a transistor on the lcd board backlight power pin but it was not so practical as it needed a lot of time and what we do is producing more than 1000 product ea…

Playing with freshly installed/updated armbian, tried to compile "patched" realtek drivers for those weird realtek 81xx things. Bumped error: ./scripts/recordsmcount not found Go to /usr/src/linux-headers-whatever-version-4.x/scripts then, sudo make recordmcount After this even DKMS version installed/build without any issues. Not sure I will survive next kernel update without manual intervention with this "make", but anyway, it worked for me.

I have several rock64, rpi, and opi boards but only one ftdi232 serial adapter. Since not each board has hdmi output or in some cases it is buggy a serial connection is the only way for me to see what's going on. If I remove the adapter from a running board and plug it in immediately again I still get serial output, however, if I plug it in after a while I don't get any output. Any ideas what could be the reason and how to fix this?

Not a feature request, I'm just curious about why things are like this. Hi! I just wanted to ask if somebody knows if the accuracy of the internal temperature sensor (A20 Chip) is defined somewhere? We want to use the temperature sensor in the A20 to generate a heating model for our PCB ..... I actually do not find anything in the datasheets - that's the reason I am asking here... Best regards!

Hello, I'm actually working on the implementation of the MAX9860 Mono Audio Voice Codec in the devicetree. TheTLV320AIC3204 audio codec works fine and the operating system (Linux embedded) can see it with the command "aplay -l". So in the kernel, i have activated the MAX9860 audio codec, however, i don't know how to declare it in the device tree next to my TLV codec. So i have tried something like this in my i2c node: max9860: max9860@10 { compatible = "maxim,max9860"; reg = <0x10>; clocks = <&max9860_clock>; clock-names = "mclk"; supply-av = <®_aud_avdd>; su…

When I boot Orange Pi PC loads and the "Ambian" gui loads with graphical desktop. When it has fully loaded I like my own program to load as well - after everything else has been loaded. In raspberry pi LXDE dekstop I edit a script "sudo nano ~/.config/lxsession/LXDE-pi/autostart". What is the Armbian equivalent?

I'm using Armbian bullseye on an Odroid HC2 with 2 GB of RAM with OpenMediaVault. Its memory usage used to be around 10% before starting any docker services, and a cool 50-60% while running things like Nextcloud, Vaultwarden etc. It used to jump to around 80% when some headless Chromium processes ran intermittently, but overall, it's been quite stable. I don't recall to make any significant changes to the system, yet suddenly the baseline memory usage jumped to around 50%, making my system extremely slow and unstable, with service and system restarts now occuring several times a day. I couldn't extract any useful clue about what's using all that RAM, with `sys…

I'm using the image Armbian_5.38_Orangepizero_Debian_stretch_next_4.14.14.7z. My NetworkManager version is 1.6.2-3. Certain NetworkManager options like wifi.scan-rand-mac-address=yes or wifi.cloned-mac-address=random for NetworkManager results in not being able to connect to a wireless Access Point anymore via nmtui. On the other hand, manually spoofing the MAC address via ip, ifconfig and macchanger and using nmtui afterwards works in all three cases.

Can anyone put me on the right track?

hello. first i want to say thank you to every armbian supporter and the hole team. thanks for providing this nice project and your work. i did some work for adding an external sound card - the audioinjector pi stereo, which is based on a wm8731. i used the radxa rockpi4(b) board based on the rk3399. i choose this board because of pinout header is nearly the same as the one you find on raspberrys. so adding/ using raspberry Hats won´t be too hart in this case. this will also work with radxa kernel https://github.com/verplant23/kernel so there shouldn´t be any troubles porting it to armbian legacy. i´m not a coder and i don´t kno…

Hi, I'm a long time Armbian user and overall extremely happy. It my default Linux distro everywhere! Thanks to everyone who is developing or contributing to it! Every time I pickup a new board and deploy Armbian I have to edit the `armbianEnv.txt` file and change verbosity to 7. The same question repeats in my head. Why is it not the default? Systemd and startup messages spam up like crazy and they have nothing interesting to offer. I do care what hardware did the kernel detect or was a protocol correctly negotiated etc. I personally would have it in reverse, verbose kernel, quiet systemd. But thats just me. Could we at least have parity, if syst…

I've installed Armbian on my brand new Odroid N2. I realise it still is WIP, but almost everything works great. There is just one issue, which prevents me from setting it up the way I want. I use my eMMC card to boot the system. I've also added a larger A1 SD card for application data. However, after a reboot the SD card isn't recognized. There isn't even a message about it in dmesg log. But when, after booting, I remove the SD card and insert it, all of the sudden it's detected and mounted. Does anyone know how I kan make this happen at boot, so I don't need to physically access the device in order to use it after a reboot?

I have an orangepi pc+ which (among other duties) exports my usb (/media/wd/Music) drive with nfs. The external usb drive (A Western Digital) automatically enters sleep mode when it is not used for a while. When I try to mount that nfs-share on another machine, I hear the drive spinning up (awakening) and the mount succeeds. But when I try to access the mount I get "ls: cannot access /opt/music: Stale file handle" I had the same drive and /etc/exports on my raspberrypi-2 but there I did not have this problem (I could hear it spinning up as well when I accessed the mount so I know it was entering sleep mode as well). So I think it is a difference in configuration…

Guys, I've been trying for quite a while to get a custom resolution of 1280x390 to work with my Odroid N2+. I can get that resolution to work with the official builds from Hardkernal, both Ubuntu and android, but I'm needing the hardware acceleration in the graphics that's working in armbian. Can anyone help me out with trying to get this resolution set? I'm not sure if I'm putting or creating the u-boot settings correct or if there's an issue with trying to use xrandr to set the resolution. Unfortunately the EDID of the HDMI board is not reporting the correct resolution. I have the modeline information that works with the official builds and works perfectly with the…

Hello, I'm using armbian on Orangepi PC PLUS and i'm controlling GPIO pins with Python. Everything is working fine when I start my Python script. Problem is during boot with GPIO3, because it's by default on pull up, and that is making me problem on device which is connected to that pin. Can I change that pin to be default OUT and pull down? When my python scripts starts, it will change GPIO3 to OUT and set it to 0, but I have only problem during boot.

my ISP blocks port 80 so I need to use something like port 82 for a server I want to run from my house. On one experiment I chanaged the listening ports in the nginx config but then none of the things like wordpress would run once installed. So what is the 'correct' way to change the listening port for all servers on an Armbian box running ISPConfig / NGINX installed from armbian-config? Is there an SPI LCD module that works out of the box with the latest armbian image for the orange pi zero board? I am using Armbian_21.08.1_Orangepizero_focal_current_5.10.60.img and it seems to be missing fbtft_device file which looks like it is very important. I have also seen forums and blog posts that say SPI LCD will not work, or there are no working drivers, for linux kernel 4 and higher, and that I should use linux kernel 3. I am currently also testing out Armbian_5.90_Orangepizero_Ubuntu_bionic_next_4.19.57.img which I believe has kernel 4.19.57. Where can I download an older image that has kernel version less than 4? I'm on Debian version. Is this option kernel dependent?
