I want to do some debugging in the Orange Pi Lite 2 and it requires the ability to output the kernel log to the serial console. I am using an Arduino as a TTL-to-USB serial converter (shorting the Reset and GND pins) with the TX pin from the OPi Lite 2 UART header connected to RX on the Arduino (Digital pin 0), the RX pin from OPi connected to Arduino's TX (Digital pin 1), and Ground to Ground. I tried to enable the serial console by enabling all the UART overlays in armbian-config (ruart, uart1, uart2, uart3), setting the "console" environment variable to "ttyS0,115200", setting the "loglevel" variable to "7" and disabling the login on ttyS0 by executing the …

Hello, I am using Armbian 21.02.1 Focal with Linux 5.10.12-sunxi (Armbian Focal from https://www.armbian.com/orange-pi-zero/). I use the default logrotate configuration (ratate logs in /var/log) but I have a problem that the /var/log/syslog file is still growing (even if logrotate is run daily). Currently the logrotate process takes place in 3 steps (see /etc/systemd/system/logrotate.service -> [Service] section): 1) ExecStartPre =/usr/lib/armbian/armbian-ramlog write (ramlog write files to update log.hdd before rotation) 2) ExecStart =/usr/sbin/logrotate /etc/logrotate.conf (Logrotate) 3) ExecStartPost =/usr/lib/armbian/armbian-ramlog postrotate (r…

What do I need to use a separate monitor for my M4. . . . . keeping in mind, I've used nothing but MS Windows up to this point. Saying that I'm a novice when it comes to Linex, etc. is an understatement. I'm actually having someone else do the initial set for me.

Hello, I have recently setup Armbian on my Orange Pi Zero 2W for a project I am working on. Everything works great so far but one thing I have noticed is that permissions feel much reduced to my user account. I require sudo to do basically everything from create a file in the home folder to use apt. This feels very different from the feel of the Raspbian install on like a Raspberry Pi. Is there any way I can change the user permissions so I won't have to use sudo for everything? Its been a bigger problem for a project I'm using Clion for where files are synced between my laptop to the pi using SFTP and Rsync but I constantly get errors about unable to create o…

Hi, I have Armbian-Buster installed on my ODROID-HC2. And everything is working perfectly. But today I opened armbian-config and installed Pi-Hole, installed OK. Checked to install Radarr. Installed OK Checked to install Sonarr. Said it is not installed, the check is not marked, but it was installed and I can even see the /etc/systemd/system/sonarr.service file. OK. I want to REMOVE all three. When I open armbian-config and select the pi-hole or Radarr, the interface just blinks and return to the list, Nothing is uninstalled. Where's the log file so I can see what may be the problem ? …

I am trying to understand and construct a script that will run my 3g usb modem at startup. I have great difficulty in understanding the syntax. I am using a PI PC+ with Ubuntu Xenial. If I type the following at the command prompt: My modem connects to the internet. Sakis3g is located in /home/opi/usr/local/bin/sakis3g. Can someone offer guidance or an example that would execute the above command at startup please?

Hello, I've searched through various threads on here and can find no comprehensive answer on how to disable log2ram completely, forever, and preferably end up with only one /var/log with mainstream logrotate settings. This is for a situation where I'm using an actual hard drive and don't need to worry about destroying flash memory. I suspect it is more involved than just 'systemctl disable log2ram'. Any additional pointers would be very helpful, thank you!

Hi all, I bought a Orange Pi PC 2 a couple of months back, loaded the Armbian image successfully and tweaked it until it was just right for my application. As this piece of hardware was going to live on a remote property, I bought another 2 Orange Pi PC 2 boards and some new SD cards with the intention of having 2 backups - one for development and the other as spare. I cloned the SD card by copying the active EXT4 partition across to the blank SD card using GParted. The long and the short of it is that these images did not work. I know the hardware is good as the original SD card works in the new OPi PC2 boards. Likewise the new cards don't wo…

So, before some days I've updated some packages - so I can't say which update cause the following described problem: The Odroid boots up and doesn't do a dhcp query - the eth0 interface won't get any IP-Address. 'nmtui' shows (even if I delete every connections and set mine to default) after every reboot a new connection with "eth0" as name and no dchp config and no automatic connect selected. Trying to use armbian-config and set IP to DHCP wont help also, because at the next reboot this "ghost" profile appears again and overwrites the Armbian profile. If I try to activate the Armbian profile (or mine) the "ghost" profile disappears... My /etc/network/inter…

Hi, I run a wireguard server in my home. I have a Mac and a couple of iOS devices that can successfully connect to the server, my internet traffic is routed via the home wireguard server and I can access devices in my home network using an address like 192.168.178.200. No problem. Now I want to connect my cubitruck running Armbian Ubuntu 18.04 to my home network. I created a similar configuration as for all of the other devices, wireguard connects after I say `wg-quick up $configname`, with `ip a` I can see a new interface with an IP that corresponds to my configuration, there is a route set (Dst 10.9.0.0 -> Iface $configuration_wg0) BUT …

Hi, Could anyone please help me to configure CB3 and the subboard RAID? In fact, I own a CB3 and the RAID subboard with two SSD 120GB that I bought at Cubietech three years ago and I have already assembled it. If I type the following commands 'hwinfo --block' or 'fdisk -l' or 'lsusb' or 'lsblk -o name' at the prompt (as root), I do not see any SSD except the SD Card (mmcblk0) I also launched 'armbian-config' but nothing appear in the menu about that. Hi all, I have the Orange Pi PC+ with installed latest armbian. system installed on eMMC. When I connect the LCD 7" ( http://www.waveshare.com/wiki/7inch_HDMI_LCD_(C) ) via hdmi to Orange Pi PC+ I only have a white screen. I do not know where I could change the settings in Armbian so that I can see the normal image on this display just like on a computer monitor. For RPi3 I knew what to do and where because it is described on wiki page for this display. Unfortunately I do not know linux well.

Hi guys, Using Debian Jessie/armbian 4.5 here. Was today using tcpdump, tested out also tshark, and aparently the BPF rules are not working... (?) Is it just me, some kernel compiling, a bug, or am I missing something? I know for sure that in a very similar setup I have at work in Intel, I do not have this problem. This issue is present both with libpcap 1.7.4-1 and 1.6.2-2 As an example: rui@ruir:/etc$ sudo tcpdump -n not port 22 | egrep "22[ :]" tcpdump: verbose output suppressed, use -v or -vv for full protocol decode listening on eth0, link-type EN10MB (Ethernet), capture size 262144 bytes 14:50:34.559080 IP xx.xxx.254.104.22 > xxx.xxx.xxx.2.…

I made a custom A20 board of which sch is very close to lime2 for a project (retrostone2) and I can't use USB0 as a classic USB port. The three USB (0 1 2) are all connected to regular USB type A connectors. No OTG used. However I can't get the USB0 to work. USB1 and USB2 works without issue. But USB0 will not recognize keyboard/any peripheral. I think it's probably because of OTG detect pins. I looked at the DTS, but I am having trouble understanding how OTG is emplemented there, how to unactivate it and just activate a classic USB port. Any ideas?

Hi, I'm new to Armbian and this is my first time ever compiling any Linux system. I'm sorry to bother you with such a basic question, but I just don't understand. I want to enable a kernel module. Upon browsing the kernel configuration utility menus, I don't see this functionality anywhere. But if I run search with '/', I find this, this is the module I want: How do I now proceed to enable it? Or make sure that it's enabled (if present by default)? Also, what's the meaning of =y and =m? It's listed in the resulting .config file as =y, just as the search shows.

I'm working with an Orange Pi Zero board powered by OpenWRT with U-Boot (2018.11) and kernel (4.14.93). I'm trying to implement a recovery mode by inspecting a state of some button during an u-boot phase. This button is connected to a PL4 GPIO line. When Linux gets loaded it's possible to read a state of this GPIO line, but during an u-boot phase result is the same ( 0 ) regardless of a real state of the button (`gpio input pl4`). As I got from H2+ datasheet, L port is a dedicated port (bank) with all GPIO lines disabled by default, when I try to change value of a configuration register for this port nothing changes - I read it and see that it's the same.…

Hello I'm new in Armbian. I'm trying to connect one Orange Pi Zero 2 to a 3d printer (board Cheetah v1.2) using UART in order to install Klipper to control the printer. I can't find how to enable the UART port to connect. I'm planning use UART 5 (pins PH2 PH3 according to this pinout http://www.orangepi.org/orangepiwiki/images/e/e3/Orange-pi-zero2-img4.png) . I've been searching for hours the right way to enable the UART communication, but I've not found a clear explanation about how to do it. I've trying armbian-config but Hardware option doesn't appears in the Menu. I'm using the Armbian_22.11.3_Orangepizero2_bullseye_legacy_4.9.318 image. Also, I've another q…

Hi all, I'm new to armbian, I have a nanopi r4s SBC, and I want to know that if armbian nanopi r4s enabled(applied) `overlays-00-add-oc-opp-rk3399.patch` by default? i.e. https://github.com/armbian/build/blob/master/patch/kernel/archive/rockchip64-5.10/overlays-00-add-oc-opp-rk3399.patch I really need this patch to bootst up performance, otherwise I have to build armbian by myself.

Hi, I had Armbian based on kernel 4.19 installed on emmc. It was running pretty good for a long time but recently it was automatically upgraded to kernel 5.3.9 and started to restart while booting. I had collected a log (see attachment), It looks like it was unable to find root partition and this is most likely caused by issue with axp20x_device_probe. Is this a known issue? Is there any remedy? minicom.log

Hello everyone. I've been struggling with the temperature of my Orange Pi Lite 2. Based on what I saw in the forums, undervolting might fix this issue. I know how to undervolt the CPU by editing script.bin, however, it seems that script.bin is deprecated and now I need to change the device tree. I looked into DTS config in armbian-config, I couldn't find any voltage related parameters. I need to edit something like the dvfs_table in script.bin. Does anyone know how I can edit the device tree in order to modify voltage values? Especially voltage-frequency values. Any help is much appreciated.

Hello, Here is the end goal of what I am trying to achieve: I am using a rockpro64 and would like to be able to boot from SPI into a rootfs present on an encrypted hdd RAID. I tried building an image with root encryption enabled but apparently, has stated on the wiki, it is possible that no prompt will be shown during the boot process. This is exactly what is happening to me, the boot process halts without showing anyway of entering the passphrase. Is there a way to solve this issue ? Or to reach my goal with a different method ? Many thanks !!

Hello, I am using armbian now for some time as a smb server on my Orange Pi 3. It's working but I am not really happy with the performance. I only get write speeds up to 30-40 MB/s. On netdata I saw that the cpu utilization is very unstable. The writing speed on the hdd is also not constant and oscillating like the cpu utilization. Does anybody have a clue why I have this oscillating cpu utilization and the low samba performance? Are there any tweaks to improve the performance? Short infos about the used system newest armbian version all devices connected over Gigabit LAN 2,5" USB 3.0 HDD connected on…

Hi all, Which branch or tag should I use if I'm willing to work on the latest stable linux version on Banana Pi M1 ? How do I choose between legacy / current / dev, and what are the differences between them ? Is there some guide that explain these issues ? If someone is willing to answer by giving an example, then lets assume I want to build from source kernel 5.10.32 on Banana Pi M1. Thanks in advance

Currently the only way to get a working GC2035 camera at Orange PI PC Plus, is to 1) install Armbian 5.20 or 5.23 ( 5.24 / 5.25 and anything newer is known not to work) 2) then you need to carefully apt-get update / apt-get upgrade and hope it doesnt break However, there is a huge problem: Armbian 5.20 and 5.23 images are not available now They should have been available at these links: Armbian 5.20 - https://dl.armbian.com/orangepipcplus/archive/Armbian_5.20_Orangepipcplus_Debian_jessie_default_3.4.112.7z Armbian 5.23 - https://dl.armbian.com/orangepipcplus/archive/Armbian_5.23_Orangepipcplus_Debian_jessie_default_3.4.112.7z …

Hi, I have few boards that were once connected to wifi manually, but now are headless. I would like now to upgrade Armbian and put wifi connection during sd card flash. Hello, I've an Orange Pi H3 board and I should use it on an old vga Acer 15" monitor. Usually with the other SBC and video outputs, I used the usual HDMI to VGA converters that doesn't have an external psu but seems to take the voltage from the 18 pin of the HDMI outputs. With this monitor that is indeed correctly identified by EDID on the adapter and on the Armbian o.s., the screen goes blank and return every few seconds randomly. I measured the PI One H3 pin 18 voltage and it gives out something like 4,6v to 4,8v and I think this might be the problem (?). I remember on the Rpi there was an option to boost the hdmi output and I suppose it increased that. Is there an…

Hi! I'm sorry if the answer to my question is already documented somewhere, but I couldn't find it. I am trying to figure out how to build a specific release. My understanding is that you checkout the desired tag of the armbian/build repo and just build it. However, when I do this with v24.2.1 the image that comes out is named 24.5.0-trunk. Changing the version in the VERSION file (by default set to 24.5.0-trunk) changes the name of the output image, but it is not clear to me if that affects other things than just this. So basically, now I am confused which scenario is correct: Is using the armbian/build tag the correct …

I like Guix system. I really like it on my desktop, so now I want to use Guix system as the OS for my Orange Pi 5 Pro as well. The problem is, the Arm distro for Guix System is only available for Generic EFI and I didn't have the money to buy a Orange Pi 6 Plus. But I figure, why not install Armbian on SD card and have it boot Guix System on the SSD? Is that possible and if so, how would I achieve that? So far I've been able to 'dd' the guix system install ISO onto the SSD. It seems to have an iso9660 filesystem.

Hi all, I bought a Orange Pi PC 2 a year or two back, loaded the Armbian image successfully and tweaked it until it was just right for my application. As this piece of hardware was going to live on a remote property, I bought another 2 Orange Pi PC 2 boards and some new SD cards with the intention of having 2 backups - one for development and the other as spare. I loaded these two up with the latest Armbian image and configured them as needed. These two work fine, even if I swap the SD card between these two pieces of hardware. However, when I try to put the SD card from the original Orange Pi PC 2 into one of the newer Orange Pi PC 2 it will …

Hi everyone, I have a Helios 4 running Armbian 5.68 I have set up Nextcloud, and everything is working. However, if the server is "cold" it takes several seconds for the page to load. If the server is "hot" then the page loads immediately. I'd like to know if there's anything I can do to keep the page loading at its fastest speed. I'm confident that it's not due to the hard drive going into standby. I have used the command sudo hdparm -S 0 /dev/sda To disable the hard drive going into standby mode, and confirmed that the slow loading still occurs if the hard drive is active/idle with sudo hdparm -C /dev/sda Any s…

Hi, this is a problem that has persisted on my Orange Pi H2+ Board (running Armbian) for quite some time now. At one stage I thought I had resolved the issue, but now since an update to some unrelated software, said software no longer works. I have tracked this back to the locale settings, which, for all intents and purposes, don't exist. I have tried a variety of fixes, such as trying to set Locale using the armbian-config , but Locale remains adamantly blank. I can SSH into the board (which is where I ran the arm config program, as well as the following commands). I tried dpkg-reconfigure locales but I only get told the following: pe…

Trying to reach a headless TinkerBoard with X2Go so I can set up wifi. SELinux is disabled. I can SSH in as my user just fine, with and without -i, but when setting the Pyhoca session to "Discover SSH Keys", I get "Not a valid EC private key file!" I know that X2Go can't handle ed25519 unfortunately, so I don't even have that key for my user. I know I can use nand-sata -install (preprare my final OS on SD card and the copy to all boards), but it is not quick way. Raw copy is much faster. Any ideas? Of course dd if=my.img of=/emmc does not work - some problem with boot.

Hello, I'd like to set up a WLAN access point with WLAN adapters attached to USB on my Orange Pi Zero. First I started with a dualband adapter and used the armbian-config tool. It took forever (like minutes with a black screen) but eventually completed and gave me a working access point on channel 40. That's fine but I also need to be able to change this to a 2.4 GHz channel. That's where things got problematic. I edited /etc/hostapd.conf and changed the channel number from 40 to 5, then restarted hostapd. That didn't work. The service restarted but there was no access point anywhere to be found on the air. Also, the WLAN adapter's LED …

Hey, I'm currently using Debian Wheezy Armbian and think on Upgrading to Jessie. This should be no problem using the Upgrade script as in documentation. Now I've seen that also Ubuntu Trusty ist available. Is there an upgrade from Debian Wheezy to Ubuntu Trusty possible? Does it have any consequences? Or should I stay within Debian? And as additional question: I currently backup the following directories: /etc /root /home /var/backups /var/lib /var/local /var/opt /var/mail /srv /opt /usr/local Is this enough? Or how should I backup before such a upgrade procedure? Thank you for your infos. Ingo

Hi, the hardware in question: PCIe_TO_2-CH_SATA_HAT+ In expectation for the Rock 4D forum to arrive I am posting my issue here: The Rock 4D works and all is well The two SATA drives work over USB to SATA adapters - that is not ideal in the long term IMHO The HAT just arrived and i have no doubt in my mind that it can be defective in any way - i assume it is 100% operational. But when i connect it and plug the power in the Rock 4D boots, everything else works as usual, but the HAT just sits there without any signal. My questions: 1. How do i query the eeprom via the pins 27 & 28 (ID_SD & ID_SC), do i just enable the i2c_6 overlay? …

Hi all, I have a working Pinebook Pro Focal build with LUKS encryption enabled. The only issue I have is that when booting no progress or password prompt is displayed. As soon as I enter the password and hit enter I see the boot logo or console output depending on what is set in armbianEnv.txt. I will be continuing my research and learning about the boot process in general but wanted to check in here to see if people had any obvious pointers to share or whether maybe this is a known limitation that is going to be hard to resolve. Thanks, Matt

Cross-posting from the Radxa community, because I've not had much luck getting replies over there, and hoping this forum is more active. I’m in the process of porting a VISCA/NDI camera controller from Raspberry Pi to run on Rock Pi (4B+ version 1.73), and I’m running into some serious GPIO hardware failures that I don’t quite know how to deal with. As a starting point, I took a pre-built collection of LEDs and disconnected them from a working Raspberry Pi setup and connected them to the Rock Pi. They all worked fine when driving them from the Raspberry Pi, so I’m reasonably certain that the problems are specific to the hardware or drivers on the Rock Pi …

I'm trying to add the optional input-debounce to the GPIO G ports of my NanoPi NEO (AllWinner H3) with a device tree overlay, but my overlay merely manages to brick the device. Here is my overlay, of which I've tried several tweaked versions: /dts-v1/; /plugin/; / { fragment@0 { target = <&pio>; __overlay__ { input-debounce = <1 1>; }; }; }; I create the file on the running device and I use 'sudo armbian-add-overlay <file.dts>' and reboot to test my changes. I'm using <&pio> as the target because I see in the device tree that &pio is a symbol to "/soc/pinctrl@1c20800". As for…
