  1. Anyone heard of this? I had not, until it was brought to my attention in a comment to the release announcement I sent to LWN. From https://validation.linaro.org/ : There is also https://www.lavasoftware.org/ : https://wiki-archive.linaro.org/LAVA : https://www.linaro.org/blog/lava-fundamentals/ https://github.com/Linaro/lava Anyway, plenty info in the Internet about it. I had a couple questions / thoughts: Any of you heard about / familiar with this? Is this suitable for our use-case?

I'm building an Ubuntu image and after it compiles the ARM objects it tries to download files from ports.ubuntu.com. For a reason I'm still trying to figure out, it's trying to get files from 127.0.0.1 (which is weird) but that's fixable. What I'd like to do is resume a build that had failed without recompiling all the ARM objects again. I'm using compile.sh. Thanks! Kriston

I repurposed my old build system hardware and am trying to build a new one. Nice faster box ;] On this new linux host I create a virtualbox machine and install Hirsute from the link in the documentation. I do an apt update / upgrade. I received at least one PM so far that I did not know the answer to. So, rather than all of us spend a lot of effort duplicating info, I thought maybe good idea to compile these in one place. Especially as we have an influx of new Board Maintainers at the moment. I also encourage people to stop by IRC and say hello. I shall also endeavor to copy the most useful bits from IRC into this thread as they come up. Maybe later can be distilled even further into some docs page or ...? Anyway... So, first up: Q: How /what checks/tests to run? A: OK, I guess I thought armbian/autotests was more about that (long in deve…

  8. Hi Is there a way to set url for kernel sources for build process of armbian? 10. Since linux v5.4 armbian_build enables the CONFIG_RT_GROUP_SCHED config option. Some armbian users use the soft real-time features for either real-time audio (jackd), or control (eg. klipper_host_mcu), However, real-time group scheduling, enabled by this options complicates the user space configuration required to acquire real-time scheduling in applications and daemons. Setting ulimit -r or LimitRTPRIO= is no longer enough, it is also required to allocate CPU time for RT task. In a brutal way this can be done as echo 950000 > /sys/fs/cgroup/cpu,cpuacct/{system,user}.slice/cpu.rt_runtime_us JACK documentation recommends using c…

  17. Hi! I’ve been trying to build a kernel with custom settings for a couple of days now, but am facing some issues. My build setup is a virtual machine (running in VMWare Workstation Pro v15) based on the mini.iso image that's recommended in the Armbian documentation (and post here in the forums). The target is an Odroid N2+ SBC. There was no apparent issues setting up the build framework, installing git and cloning the repository. I then executed the compile.sh script and manually set the kernel configuration via the menuconfig interface that pops up. This however yielded an output image that, surprisingly enough, does not use my supplied configurati…

For a history of F2FS discussion please use the search function: https://forum.armbian.com/index.php?/search/&q=f2fs Armbian fully supports F2FS partitions for a long time now but we don't provide OS images with F2FS for a couple of reasons: F2FS still doesn't support resizing so our default installation variant (ship with a minimized rootfs that gets resized on first boot automagically to the size of SD card / eMMC) wouldn't wo…

Only one port is enabled, but /dev/ ttyS* contains 8 serial devices /proc/device-tree/soc/serial* directory contains exact number of serial ports as it is described in dtb. does anybody have an experience in disabling devices via device tree? Or the devices are hardcoded in the kernel?

It makes impossible under lvm to have logical volume mirror, and I just experienced an impossibility to make a pvmove to change one drive for another one. All my filesystems are built upon lvm, the only possibility would be to rebuild a kernel. It seems the Linux kernel 5.8+ on aarch64 is incompatible with the U-Boot from 2017, at least on the RK3328 boards. This apparently affects the Rock64 as well as my own Renegade. Essentially U-Boot gets stuck on "Starting kernel..." But with the battery slightly charged or the LTE module unplugged it boots up just fine. I know that USB power is enabled by the u-boot, because with the Armbian SD card ejected, when I plug in the microUSB power supply, the board doesn't automatically provide power to the USB port, and the battery charges by default. So I'm trying to figure out where in the uboo…

  46. I put some fresh armbian buster image to my cubieboard (1). Although no (real) application was installed, a load of around 20-30% could be seen. First I located the K-worker problem on A20 based boards thread and blacklisted sun4i_gpadc and sun4i_gpadc_iio. But after removing my display and booting the system still there was some kworker load almost stopping the system every 5-10 seconds. Digging deeper I found a description and a possible solution of the problem. Looking a my Olimex A20 Lime2 which I am currently testing with the new olimage by Olimex because of the never solved gigabit problems of my board, the same behaviour could be seen. The modules sun4i…

Last but not least was (and still is) this a perfect opportunity to pratice with my quite new Python skills. https://github.com/EvilOlaf/refactorpatches What this script basically does is break down all patches in a certain folde…

With this aim, I´ve programmed my own driver with its methods, whose are automatic loaded at startup. My hardware is a BananaPi m2u, and kernel version is 5.4.35-sunxi. Now, I´ve to read an external HW that has 2 data lines, whose idle state is "high" and once per minute sends a packet of 26 bits of data. One of these lines is a Data0 signal, and the other is Data1 signal. Every pulse is around 100us, and there is an idle interval of about 2ms between one bit and the next. Faster synchronization requiring only minutes instead of hours to minimize the time and frequency error, which is useful on desktops or systems not running 24 hours a day. 2. Better response to rapid changes in the clock frequency, which is useful for virtual machines that have unstable clocks or for power-saving technologies that don’t keep the clock frequency constant. 3. After the initial synchronization, it never steps the clock so as not to affect applications needing system time to be monotonic. 4. Better stability when dealing with temporary asymmetric delays, …

  65. Just a minor problem: uptime from procps-nf 3.3.15 (Armbian buster) - as used in 30-armbian-sysinfo to get uptime/logged-in users/load - generates different outputs if the uptime is either less or more than 1 day or less than 1 hour ("hh:mm" or "d days, hh:mm" or "nn min") - this gets the 30-armbian-sysinfo confused on gathering the logged-in user count resp. load. Only the LANG variable is set to fr_FR.UTF-8 and all LC_XXX variables are set to C. To solve this issue, I have modified manually the /etc/environment to set LC_ALL=fr_FR.UTF-8. Does anybody else have this issue and is it specific to debian? With a 5.75 stretch image the locale configuration worked well.

  88. ROCK64 is a RK3328 Quad-Core ARM Cortex A53 board with up to 4 GB of RAM. Unfortunately it has a non-functional RTC (/dev/rtc0), which is not battery backed. If your board is not connected to internet 7/24, you can not use the NTP or systemd-timesyncd. Therefore you need to connect a battery-backed external RTC module to the ROCK64 header, and get the time via the i2c protocol. The good news is, the GPIO headers on ROCK64 is compatible with Raspberry Pi headers. Therefore almost any Raspberry Pi RTC module will work on ROCK64. But you need to do some tweaking to communicate with the RTC module. I will explain the required steps which worked for me. 1. Buy an e…

I am the developer of NextCloudPi, which basically consists on providing Nextcloud images for the Raspberry Pi, but has evolved to other flavours such as docker x86 and docker ARM. It also features many scripts for managing the instance that can be run from a classic whiptail like TUI or a simple web interface. The initial goal of the project is to drive as many people away from dropbox into selfhosting, so there's also a Wizard and I try to ease the process of DDNS, certificates and so on. I am a…

Hi, I've been trying to setup a Cubox i with a buster image, encrypted root and ssh unlock. I cloned the git on 15th of August at commit `1a06bea5f31767b4983985c6592b78e288a85b99`. I used the following build options: ./compile.sh BOARD=cubox-i CRYPTROOT_ENABLE=yes CRYPTROOT_PASSPHRASE="abc" CRYPTROOT_SSH_UNLOCK=yes CRYPTROOT_SSH_UNLOCK_PORT=2222 KERNEL_ONLY=no KERNEL_CONFIGURE=no BUILD_DESKTOP=no BRANCH=next RELEASE=buster I've tried using both 'dd' and 'etcher-cli' to burn the image, with identical results. The board boots, I can see the initial u-boot startup screen, then it goes black. Which something I've seen many times with the Cubox i on various di…

  92. Hello, I am working on a board that is essentially the AW-A20-SOM with some peripherals on a backplane in which the AW-A20-SOM plugs into. I built armbian from source in the recommended VM configuration using the existing aw-som-a20.csc config. It boots and runs a special build that is installed in eMMC but I want to create an armbian build for it. First I want to boot it from SD card so I had just to change the following Spoiler diff --git a/patch/u-boot/u-boot-sunxi/add-awsom-defconfig.patch b/patch/u-boot/u-boot-sunxi/add-awsom-defconfig.patch index ee708eb..98bb457 100644 --- a/patch/u-boot/u-boot-sunxi/add-awsom-defconfig.patch +++ …

Hi all, Is there some documentation or How To on how to debug the boot process ? I posted before I am trying to bring up a AW-SOM-A20 board that gets stuck at boot. I am kind of at a loss so I figure next step is to use the kernel debugger, which I have never done on linux (I have experience with darwin/mac OS and freebsd though) Is there a build option for armbian so that the debuggable kernel image is left around in the build process ? All help appreciated, thanks Bruno

  94. I have some patch files, and one of them leads to a .dts file not being compiled. I'd like to find what is wrong with the dtc compilation but I do not know what the exact command the armbian build script runs, so I can't reproduce... Is there a way to make the build totally verbose and see the command being executed ?

  95. Hey , I need to get the official source code for the last stable version of armbian for orangepi (mainly the kernel): https://www.armbian.com/orangepi/ meaning version 4.19.y by the given link, but as I look at the source code in github, all I can find are tags and commits for 4.14 and 4.20. Is there a way to find the commit with the source code for the official release in the given link?

Hi guys, New over here. I have been building custom images without issues for some time for Nano Pi M4. From last week it seems it is not longer building them. In case my build env was corrupted, image build process was tested on a clean VM build env with Ubuntu 18.04, without any customization, following instructions in https://docs.armbian.com/Developer-Guide_Build-Preparation/). I am just trying to buildi kernel image at the moment. In any case, I am seeing some of the rockchip kernel patches are not being applied for some reason, and a compiler error is produced when building the kernel (specifically: looback block dev module). Anybody else is …

Hi Igor, Hi Everyone, I am very new here. I have Orange Pi R1 and using Armbian everything is working, however I have proprietary software and want to secure it ( as much as possible ) Read a lot of articles and read about Armbian supporting CRYPTROOT_ENABLE , so decided to try to build my own image. I have succeeded in building 5 images but unfortunatelly none of them boots correctly. I decided to first build image without CRYPTROOT_ENABLE but still cannot succeed. It gives me KERNEL PANIC after truing to load/uncompress Linux. I Basicly want default Armbian image for Orange Pi R1 + CRYPTROOT_ENABLE. My second question will follow …
