Hi all. Werner has made a video where he presents himself and talks about how he got into using Linux, SBCs and Armbian. A very interesting video. This is a serie of video's. Igor and Lanefu also have made a video like that. You can find the other video's here. https://www.armbian.com/authors/ If you're willing to make a video like this. I am willing to edit and help out. I reported the armbian to the linux distrowatch portal. The rankings are raspian and bananian and there is no armbian. www.distrowatch.com sent to .: jsmith@distrowatch.com https://www.armbian.com/ Hello Why this distribution is not in the rankings ? They have existed since 2013 the best linux distribution for single board computers... You rank raspbian and you dont rank armbian ????? best regards RADEK FROM POLAND

Hi guys I have no time to test performace between armbian, retrorangepi and h3droid, does some one test the same app on the three system, does it run the same? I have now an armbian with kodi and retroarch that i'm using for test, but I'm planning to move to a more TV friendly OS as retrorangepi or h3droid. the main problem is Netflix, I should go for h3droid only for netflix app, but I want to be sure that retrorangepi and kodi works the same as on armbian/retrorangepi. and that the temps are the same. Can you help me if you had some experience? PS I know that I could run netflix on kodi but I didn't tested it. thank you in advance

Hi all o/ I'll be travelling to Canada in a couple of weeks (anyone visiting OpenStack summit in Vancouver?) and I was preparing my shopping cart. To my dismay, Tinker Board is off stock in both US and Canada resellers; I can only find rip-off prices from Marketplace and eBay! Does anyone here knows a reputable vendor where I could buy it sub-USD60? Appreciate any hints!

While reading the armbian-forum with a tablet using the Chrome-Browser (or other Browser as well) I do miss the header/headlines in portrait-mode I did mark the part - with green retangle - which is visible in landscape-mode, but is missing in portrait-mode. Does anyone else got this problem on a tablet or smartphone? PS: Original Resolution of the image is 2560*1600 (on my Samsung SM-T900 12.2" Tablet) - so there is more space than on my 19" Monitor with 1280*1024

I'd like to run a small network server, nodejs, PHP. size is NOT important never turned off => power consumption is somewhat important at least 80 GB of storage, needs SSD support (?), if so, would hope it can boot from SSD 100 Mbps is ok would prefer a score of at least 1000 on Passmark Thank you for any suggestions

This seems to be a interesting project for some of the SBCs which are supported ba armbian. Maybe its - in some parts - also a "inspiration" for armbian? I can't even imagine the amount of work involved on both sides of the (debian) development fence, as well as the admins, mods, community contributors, ..., here, that help make Armbian a viable SBC (ARM) whatever OS. -and here's to RISC-*, and let it not be too encumbered. My "Armbian_24.11.1_Odroidc4_noble_current_6.6.60-kisak.img" works very well on my lowly Odroid-C4. I don't know your names, but Thankyou all.

You may want to try this if your orangepi zero plus with NAS IO expansion combination is running too hot, with Nanopi neo 2 it runs a bit cooler (~ 65 vs 70 in full load). Not sure if it is because of the slower CPU speed or the more exposed heat sink.

Hi all. I've just finished a new video where I polish the heatsink of my Rock Pi X with sandpaper. This because there's a rather thick powdercoating on the heatsink in the spot where it makes contact with the SoC. This caused a lot of thermal resistance. The SoC would get hot and overheat, while the heatsink didn't warm up. And the top of the board was the hottest spot. Here my video. On the NanoPi M4 and M4V2 there was a thermal pad included. This also was pretty bad. I raplaced those with a copper shim and some thermal paste and improved the thermals by about 10C. If you like to use your board passively cooled it can be important to look f…

So i've installed a bigger battery on my cheap A33 tablet. Previously it had a 1700mAh battery (rated for 3000mAh actually) for a 2x1700mAh setup. It works fine and actually works for longer, but the battery percentage is not correct anymore, since it now drops to 5% and stays there for some time until it completely discharges. Does need a special calibration (pmic is AXP223) or will a simple charge/discharge calibrate things ?

This is using the second ili9341 tiny drm driver (the one not named ili9341) on kernel 5.9.14, running on OrangePi One Plus. Screen seems to be shifted, colors are also off. Seems somewhere in Panfrost it requires the screen to be at least 640 wide and the color depth to be at least 24 or it requires a different set of fonts??? If I disable Panfrost the screen gets back to normal so you can see the whole terminal and the texts are in black instead of yellow and brown. I'm augmenting my iBook G3 with my pcDuino3 Nano to act as a wireless gateway and host for a development toolchain. It's working fine so far and once I'm done it will be completely powered by the FireWire port The only downsides are that it is a bit big and at idle it's taking ~250mA which I'm going to have to play with at some point and see if I can get it down any more.

For a few years now I've used a Cubietruck as a "gateway" for my home network - it mostly just runs nginx as a reverse proxy for the various other computers I have to expose them to the internet via HTTPS. It still runs as good as it always has, I chose it for the task because: 2GB RAM at the time a reasonably fast CPU - dual 1GHz A7's "real" gigabit network interface built in battery management, so no need to worry about power failures corrupting anything sata support for local disk All of these points are now no longer relevant. Over the years I have amassed a few more SBC's, many of which also have 2GB RAM, a faster CPU,…

I've had a cheap JMB321 port multiplier on my EspressoBIN for more than a year. I've used it with a BTRFS RAID0 configuration on two 1TB harddisks. This worked fine so far. The day before yesterday I added another 1TB drive. I added the first partition and balanced it. No problems. Next partition, same thing, no problems (this was my web-partition with all my web-sites. Balanced fine). Next partition was almost unused, added it and balanced it and ... segmentation fault. This is not the fault of BTRFS! No commands were available, I had no rootfs anymore. I rebooted the board, nothing. Started from SD, couldn't see anything but …

Hi guys, I'd like to install an heatsink on my OPi1. 'cause on summer ambient temps are too high... Can I install an heatsink taken from a mobo chipset on the OPi1? the heatsink is bigger than the h3 cpu, it cover either the cpu and the ram, does this (one heatsink for ram and cpu) will be bad for temp? If I want, instead, buy an heatsink for h3, 14mm or 15mm? ceramic, copper or aluminium? thank you so much

I just pay attention. XFCE4 and third software eg chromium in debian 9 has more errors than in ubuntu 18.04. These are errors unrelated to the armbian. Quite simply, the debian developers probably do not test their packages as accurately as ubuntu. These are the dissapearing clocks XFCE panel, the lack of the chromium minimization button, the synaptic correction not working in the search option, and so on. They do not matter to you, but they are important when used by ordinary users in production. I see that you have a lot of images doing Debian 9. If you can already consider doing images ubuntu 18.04. Ubuntu is also faster than debian 9, really feel the difference.

It seems like manufacturers should want to sell as many chips as possible, and it seems like they could sell more chips if they released the documentation to allow anyone to implement their product. But many devices or peripherals (i.e., ARM Mali, Allwinner CedarX, etc.) are undocumented and need to be reverse engineered. I noticed this when when I was looking at the RK3399 data sheet and saw all of the features this chip has. It's a shame that of all those features, the only ones that will be used on most SBCs are the ARM cores and the simple I/O peripherals (SPI, I2C, GPIO). I don't have the skills yet to write an OS driver, but I know how to write bare-metal embedded d…

Hello all, I'm doing a project which is essentially a lighted cube, that communicates status through different colors, where I get this ides from Basic Projects with Arduino (link removed). So when the light goes below a certain level it turns a certain color, when temp goes above a certain level it turns another color, etc. I'm figuring I'll probably need anywhere from 2 to 4 LEDs per color to get a nice intensity, and the colors would breathe, which is pretty easy with PWM on the arduino. What I'm thinking is that I'm going to leave all the colors in phase. So that the intensity ramp on red is the same as yellow, is the same as green, etc. That would requi…

Hey all I recently purchased this board and tried both raspbian and Armbian. After using both I have an amazing appreciation for this os. I have Cubietruck plus H8, downloaded Armbian_5.51_Cubietruckplus_Ubuntu_bionic_next_4.17.4.img and wrote it to 32 Gb SD card. It booted normally. I wrote it under Windows and Paragon partition manager showed 2 partitions on the card - about 900 Mb or some looks like this and remained 32Gb-900Mb free space. But under booted Armbian there is only 1 partition for all capacity, mounted as root. I want to divide the one partition to root, home and for database files, for example 10 Gb for root, 5 Gb for home and 15Gb for database files. After I did it by Paragon partition manager, booting couldn' t make at all. That is the device is powered on sh…

So my whole goal with java-periphery was to create a decent cross platform userspace IO library which I believe I have achieved. One of my other goals was to create a high performance GPIO API that's also cross platform. If you look around there aren't any from what I can tell. Most high performance GPIO libraries support only a few boards. What I've done is use a well known interface (GPIO device) and some MMIO code to detect deltas and generate the required resisters and masks from an input file. This surely beats doing this by hand which I tried at first. The result is code that supports Allwinner H2+/H3 and H5/H6 by using just an input file. I'm going to look at other…

(Note: this is a cross-post from here). For those unfamiliar with Festivus, it’s that festive time of year when you get your chance to Air your Grievances, and be heard (or ignored, as the case may be). Please, everyone, save up your Grievances for the next 2-3 days, then Air them! It would be sort of like when Lunduke does his “Linux Sucks” speeches, but we all get to have our say. For example, are there particular ARM board vendors that have made your life particularly difficult? You can have long-winded rants, ideally caffeine fueled, but please, edit them into a coherent essay-like format, before posting. Diagrams, meme-pictur…

It's *amazing* what you can find reading the Armbian documentation! I dig the shell, even old-school in a virtual terminal or minimal server type setup. Normally that means going through some squinty-eyed hoops to get the Terminus console font installed with larger sizes in the first place on large monitors. Wait - what's this? sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup I did this in a virtual terminal, and allowed setup to pick the right character set for me. Then I blasted the framebuffer with the largest Terminus font size allowed. Perfection! Not a big deal to most, but having this be part of the standard distrib…

Hi All. I have some confusion on Touchscreen interface. My ques is very basic on LCD interface types ... apologies for that. I like to use a 3.5" Touchscreen. For CPU either Allwinner H6 and RK3328 is in my choice. I have attached the Touchscren Datasheet. Here we will build a custom PCB for the Touchscreen. But I found RK3328 don't have any LCD Interface. So is there any possible way to use this Touchscreen with RK3328 based SBC like Rock64? On the other hand Allwinner H6 have RGB LCD port. But in Touchscreen Datasheet it said LCD Driver IC is ILI9488. As H6 have direct RGB Port so do we need to use this ILI9488 Driver? …

Hello dear all, I want to make some experience with linux and my rasperry-Pi. Well - on the Raspberry Pi, (alert-) messages and notifications are a great option: These messages help in any case of automation: The ways and methods being sent are various: These messages can use a broad variety on communication channels (e.g. e-mails, SMSs and i love MQTT). A bunch of APIs are at hand that help to collect data from sensors can be the source for alert emails. With the Raspberry Pi and the the setting of terminal commands. od day dear all, i _2019_06_05_Verses_for_google_calendar.ods!? see the differnt formats - in calc- and in a printed sheme.... or in other words - ready to print. question how to arrange to port to the google-calendar!? i guess that i need to make sure that the Start Date column is formatted MM/dd/yyyy. Since i only need all day events i guess that i'll just need a, Start Date column, not the End Date or Time columns. I'm not sure if i need to work over the multiple "Description" columns though... guess that i have to merge them into a single column I suppose. well it does not work at all

Hi there armbian seems a very powerful distribution for arm. But i am not sure that we can use it for eletronic devices . GPL V3 licence does not allow manufacturer to do locked devices GPL V3 seems used by armbian does any body a has a feeling about this ? best regards

Hi, Not sure where to post this so apologies if this is the wrong place. I currently have a .me.uk email domain and I can confirm addresses if I change them. However I am in the process of migrating to a .email domain and the confirmation emails never arrive. I am running into minor issues with this domain so this is not unique to Armbian forums. The vast majority of sites work ok but a rare few claim my email address is invalid or (as with the armbian forum) I never receive anything. The only way I have been able to post this was to change my email back to .me.uk and confirm via that. Is it possible to check if the softw…

I own Chuwi Hi12 tablet based on Atom X5-Z8300 which was a bad guy due to keyboard/overall handling. I've successfully got rid of windows & android from eMMC and installed Ubuntu Server x64 So I decided get rid of some components as touchscreen, speakers, cameras, battery and use it as SBC headless server. Sadly ribbon cables were glued and I damaged one or two of them, so this is one-way trip now I think. But I can't power it on now :/ There is no reaction to power button at all. Does anyone have some experience with such boards? What components are required to be connected in order to boot it up? teardown pics 1 teardown pics 2

HI , there I have a system on emmc protected by overlayroot. Sensitive data are written to sd card. Everything works as expected. The question is: Is there a way to temporarily access the root filesystem from python script ? Of course, I can temporarily deactivate protection by ‘overlayroot-chroot’ command from terminal and make changes, but that's not what I mean. I have a web server application written in a flask framework. On one of its pages, users can set network parameters, e.g. IP, mask, dns . Is it possible at all, eg when the user accepts changes to disable protection, save changes to root filesystem and immediately enable protection ?

Armbian noob here. I am looking for some guidance from the Armbian experts. I am familier with Debian 8 and 9 on x86/adm64 architectures as well as Raspbian on RPi's. Been using Linux off and on for 15 years. Just purchased some Rock64 boards and plan on using them for NextcloudPi, PiVPN, and PiHole. I just saw that Armbian has released a nightly of Debian Stretch for the Rock64. I have downloaded it and gotten it installed. Ran apt-get upgrade/apt-get update and all went well. Does this Armbian image have all the "standard" packages and utilities installed? Are their any other general packages/app that I need for a general server image? An…

Hi all. I've seen a lot of questions here about what sbc to buy. So why not put a few links here to my videos about SBC's. The first is my latest video about the desktop experience with the Odroid XU4. This video is about the Rock64(with Armbian) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oX7TabSROw This about the Rasp 3b+ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UbapdFXpqE&t=2s Khadas VIM2 MAX https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3ue7mmpVoU&t=188s Asus Tinker Board + Odroid C2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PT17hiELHLE I also can use the views. Thank you. Have a nice day.

Hello there, I have been doing research in regards to finding software or a script that has the ability to monitor the microphone noise and compare it to a wav file I have previously recorded. I've found a technique where someone uses SOX and identifies the maximum amplitude of the noise using a ruby script. It sounds like it should work but I'm worried about false positives. I'm curious if there is something out there that compares the microphones sound spectrograph with the wav file in real time? My end goal is to be able to monitor my basements sump pump usage. When the pump runs, the PI listens then, hits a URL using curl which then insert a…

I am using an ATX SMPS to power my Orange Pi Plus 2 via 5V supply. It worked fine for a couple of days without problem until yesterday. I happend to connect my audio amplifier TPA3116 which worked fine. After which when i was switching some cables i happend to short the 12V supply. The smps immediately shut itself down. Now i removed the short and disconnect the audio amplifier from 12V supply. After this when i started the orange pi there was no more any indication. I wanted to know that if the 12V short let to an inrush current spike at the 5V power section. If any one on this forum is aware of fuses present on the orange pi board.

So, For a project I'm looking into a logger/monitor SBC attached to an automotive device with CAN bus to solve customer issues more easily. I rather not fuzz around with (deeply) embedded stuff and keep options open (e.g. wireless connectivity/sensors). Like the old and trusty H3, preferably low-voltage, cheap and stable, no AI required or Armbian support. Any recommendations?

I know that you have a lot of to do, because there is a lot of new single boards... For considerate for the future support.: Nano pi k1 plus with H5 allwinner cpu. And also renegade single board from libre computers based on Rockchip RK 3328 the same as rock64. Both cpu's are supported in other boards so it will be easer.

This is rather a general question and thus I post here. If not, I am hoping any mod here will kindly move it to a more proper sub forum. I am wondering if ARMbian does support any Android devices based on an MT6582 (4-core 1.3 GHz) CPU. This CPU is mainly used on either an Android smartphone or tablet/phablet. I sure would like to try ARMbian on my tablet with an MT6582 CPU. Anyone?

Hello all, I am eyeing this board to make an access point. Wondering if somebody could tell me how good or bad the wifi actually is? In the past with orange pi, the performance was poor. I hope Rock Pi doesnt have this issue. Please let me know what your experience is. Thanks!

Hi there, I'm trying to better understand GPIO (in general) and to use what's available on the OrangePi Zero with Armbian. For the time being, I managed to get an I2C screen to work. Now, I'm about to try InfraRed (before using SPI). I already have the OrangePi extension hat (somewhere in the office), but it won't be really handy, as the IR receiver could be a feet away from the board, so I thought of using a general purpose IR receiver. I know there is a module pack listed on OrangePi store, but I'd like to get just the IR part... Is there a schema somewhere that lists the kind of circuit and part I should get? I was not able for the time being to …

Hi all, I've been working on a project in educational technology for some time now, and it's been about three months since I started looking into arm-linux and Armbian. About me Goal: sub-$100 computers with 11"or better display. Modular, easy to repair. Successor to OLPC. We will do it better. Backstory: I was with an NGO teaching English and Maths to underprivileged kids in North-East India, and I found that progress was startlingly slow. We were able to spend only two hours a week with these kids, and it was simply not enough. I was aware at the time of apps like Duolingo which were extremely effective due to fact that the student can self-learn on theit OWN TIM…

Hi , As i am trying to customize the Root File System for A64 core board. While in process, we are installing the packages like NodeJS and MySQL-server in the RFS. But we are unable to install it, it gives us core dump error. It demolishing RFS. Whereas we can do install all other packages. Let me know, what can be done for these packages to install. Hi , there Im , jeremy It seems like manufacturers should want to sell as many chips as possible, and it seems like they could sell more chips if they released the documentation to allow anyone to implement their product. I don't have the skills yet to write an OS driver, but…

hi ya all . i have orangepi one with armbian set up as web site server ... All good seems stable and cool despite being housed in the little cardboard box it arrived in. Now because I am on alternative power and sometimes this is in greater supply than others I would really like to reduce power consumption as much as possible Not interested in reducing processor power or memory speed or other things that may impact on its primary task of serving web pages and processing php. however the only connections to the board are ethernet and power I do not want or need any graphics camera USB or whatever nor do i need any services other than ssh and …

As someone not familiar with all the ins and outs of GPL specifically, how does GPL in the armbian/build project play with userpatches? Is it expected that a commercial hardware device using Armbian would need to open-source the customize-image.sh script? Thanks!

it's nice and handy to be able to backup our os image and restore it, just in case. The problem is that a full os backup need the root partition to be mounted read only. And some of us are running the device without any monitor attached (headless) or it's not very practical to get acces to the sdcard (for exemple, when the device is installed in the electrical cabinet) So, I had the idea of creating some kind of ramdisk with some utilities (base tools, ssh, rsync...) to backup the "offline" root partition and send it to another computer. Ultimately, this process could be started also by network boot, by U-Boot script. When you decide to backup the root pa…

I've installed a wireless alarm system, but I want to use all my old wired stuff from my original alarm system. I started down the road of using an ESP8266, but GPIO.INT was flaky and GPIO pins limited, so I ordered a MCP23017 and figured Why not just do everything with one NanoPi Duo? I have a few of them and they are made for breadboard prototyping. Plus with the built in Ethernet I can have wired primary and wireless backup networking. I even rolled my own Ethernet adapter since the breakout adapters cost $5+. If you have already done this and have any wisdom to share I'd like to hear it. No turning back now!

Hi I want an ups for my Hc 2 - Have seen the link: https://magazine.odroid.com/article/aff ... 00-uptime/ But the likelihood I can make it is small I am not good at soldering. - Are there any who can give advice on an ups I can put on the 220V side? And then I would like to support the possibility of closing the box via usb / linux in case of power failure. Someone who has experience with a UPS that supports this in armbian debian stetch?

I logged in to the Armbian forums today, for the first time in a long time. I got a message that I had to confirm my email. I didn't capture a screenshot and the screen is now gone. I promptly received an email, subject: We've Missed You! Your Account is Active Again. This had some details of my recent access and: "If this was you, please ignore this email. Otherwise, you should secure your account immediately." There was a button: Review Activity & Secure Account. I clicked that button. A page opened with the message: Oops! The page you are trying to access is not available to guests, but may be available if you sign in. …

Hello All, I am working on a freelance testing project and I want to know which model is better for testing in the process and concept point of view between agile and waterfall. Yesterday when i search for difference between them I found this reference and as I know Agile method uses an incremental development approach, the phases of design, production, testing, and other project management may appear several times as well as testing is frequently done in conjunction with the development phase in Agile model to maintain consistent quality. but not an idea about waterfall. Can anyone know which model is useful in testing? and what technique the waterfall model used?

Hi. I'm using armbian 24.05 Ubuntu jammy xfce 30. I've downloaded Arduino ide 1.8 for arm32 Linux. I replaced original Arduino due bossac with custom bossac for udoo in Arduino due Tools in order to make ide see atmel sam3xe on udoo, but bossac didn't find it. I've tried super user access and chmod on bossac and on ttyxmc (internal Arduino due programming seirla port) With old armbian build it worked, but now not. Cheers

I was just going to build a custom image for btrfs rootfs since I failed to get my SBCs with U-Boot to boot with it with an existing install for some reason even after moving /boot to an seperate etx4 partition ... OT: I really hate U-Boot and it's documentation, especially on the EspressoBin.
