OK, playing around with NanoPi Duo (H2+) to see what kind of performance boost I can get using MMIO (/dev/mem) instead of gpiod (forget sysfs) and it was pretty impressive. I used pre-calculated offset to run a square wave (rapid on/off) on pin 203 IOG11 and I hit ~3.8 MHz compared to ~500 KHz using gpiod. You can take a peek at the source at https://github.com/sgjava/java-periphery/blob/master/src/main/java/com/codeferm/periphery/demo/MmioTest.java. So the idea is how to make this generic with boards with multiple GPIO chips and different register configurations. The cool thing is the underlying MMIO stuff is kernel cross platform. Any ways I've been thinking about this …

Nothing like a good weekend challenge to occupy my inner nerd. I love this web interface NODE JS along with this relay plate RELAY PLATE and have it working with Raspberry PI3, but now I want to take advantage of the additional ram I have with Rock64. The process did not go without a hitch. I list the latest version of NPM in my machine and the web interface is working. I don't think the relays are getting triggered even though I painstakingly crossed the power pinouts and the gpio pinouts. Not sure if this can be adapted or if it has been done before. I am good at following those that know more than me, but do not consider myself knowledgeable enough to blaze new trails.…

I own Chuwi Hi12 tablet based on Atom X5-Z8300 which was a bad guy due to keyboard/overall handling. I've successfully got rid of windows & android from eMMC and installed Ubuntu Server x64 So I decided get rid of some components as touchscreen, speakers, cameras, battery and use it as SBC headless server. Sadly ribbon cables were glued and I damaged one or two of them, so this is one-way trip now I think. But I can't power it on now :/ There is no reaction to power button at all. Does anyone have some experience with such boards? What components are required to be connected in order to boot it up? teardown pics 1 teardown pics 2

Hi all. I've just finished a new video where I polish the heatsink of my Rock Pi X with sandpaper. This because there's a rather thick powdercoating on the heatsink in the spot where it makes contact with the SoC. This caused a lot of thermal resistance. The SoC would get hot and overheat, while the heatsink didn't warm up. And the top of the board was the hottest spot. Here my video. On the NanoPi M4 and M4V2 there was a thermal pad included. This also was pretty bad. I raplaced those with a copper shim and some thermal paste and improved the thermals by about 10C. If you like to use your board passively cooled it can be important to look f…

Instruction on how to use wireless WoL (Wake on LAN) using RTL8189FS example in Armbian 23.x Bookworm (This wireless WIFI adapter is installed in Oprange Pi Lite/Oprange Pi Plus(2E)/Orange Pi Zero Plus/Oprange Pi PC Plus/Oprange Pi 2/etc...) 1. First of all we need to change the device tree configuration file dts file for our single board. The point is that for most WIFI drivers for SDIO interface there is a normal configuration of single board wake-up via interrupt and therefore there is no need to go into dts. In the driver for RTL8189FS (aka RTL8189FTV) there is NO such feature as "host-wake" interrupt and we will have to make small changes to wake up the…

Hi, I was checking the Rock Pi 4C, because of it’s dual display capabilities (I have two monitors and will like to use them in extended mode) But according to this: https://shop.allnetchina.cn/collections/frontpage/products/rock-pi-4c-board-only-2-4-5ghz-wlan-bluetooth-5-0 a mini DP to HDMI is not supported, both of my monitors are HDMI only. I thought that the conversion was merely hardware. Could someone explain this or give me a recommendation for an ARM board supporting multiple (hdmi) displays? Thanks

Made some power consumption tests of different USB-Ethernet 2.5G, 1G and 100M dongles. Test bed: Orange Pi Zero3 with 480 MHz CPU speed locked, connected to the PC over UART, Armbian 26.11.0-trunk.30 6.18.48-current-sunxi64 AVHzY CT-3 for power consumption monitoring Intel I226-V as another Ethernet side First I set a baseline Orange Pi consumption with USB Host enabled. The absolute minimum I could get is with a Logitech radio keyboard dongle plugged in — 0.934 W. Then I plugged in USB-Ethernet adapters and recorded its idle power consumption without cable connected, idle power with cable and En…

I'm looking at the NanoPi R1S, R1, or Orange Pi R1 as a simple bridge device for Zerotier. They all seem to have some limitations that likely mean ~100Mbps either from the 100M ports or the R1S' USB2 connected port so that's fine. I'm most drawn to the R1S for price and included case. Questions are: 1) Are these the only decent <=$30 devices for this task? 2) Is one of these known to be more stable/reliable? 3) Is there a likely software support issue with any of them? The deployment model is pretty simple. Plug WAN in to and DHCP port, have the firewall locked down tight, and bridge a ZT network into the LAN port.

Hi everyone, I’m sharing an engineering paper about getting a PP-OCRv6-based RapidOCR pipeline running on the Orange Pi Zero 3W’s Allwinner A733 / Vivante VIP9000 NPU, integrated into Visual AI. Full paper: https://github.com/sog777/orange-pi-zero-3w-rapidocr-npu The tests used the Orange Pi Debian 12 Bookworm image and its vendor NPU stack, not Armbian. This is an engineering case study, not an Armbian support request or a claim that the same binaries work on an Armbian image. The paper covers the ONNX → ACUITY → NBG → VIPLite conversion path, static model shapes, targeted convolution and LayerNorm graph rewrites, quantization, simulator-versus-hardwa…

Dear all, First post here I just wanted to thank you for the up-to-date image you made for the pcDuino4 Nano (a.k.a the NanoPI M1): https://armbian.hosthatch.com/archive/nanopim1/archive/ It's much better than the stock image provided my LinkSprite, based upon Debian 8 "Jessie": https://www.linksprite.com/pcduino4-nano/ I only had one issue so far with your image, certainly related to the default overclocking at 1368 MHz, which didn't play well with the CPU intensive, NEON optimized tasks I threw at it (BOINC) I lowered the frequency to 1296 MHz and it's been running stable for a couple …

Hi, I developed this app just while having a look at django + angular -> https://github.com/vijaygill/wg-ui-plus I thought of sharing it with open-source communiity which has given me a lot! It allows me to have finer control over what a given VPN client can access (using IP Tables rules - managed by the code itself) I hope somebody finds it useful. It is comes as docker image (published on every push to dev / master) so updates are quite frequent for now due to tweaks / fixes. I developed it on an Orange Pi 5+ running on Armbian . The LIVE instance is running on a Raspberry Pi. …

Hi , there Im , jeremy It seems like manufacturers should want to sell as many chips as possible, and it seems like they could sell more chips if they released the documentation to allow anyone to implement their product. But many devices or peripherals (i.e., ARM Mali, Allwinner CedarX, etc.) are undocumented and need to be reverse engineered. I noticed this when when I was looking at the RK3399 data sheet and saw all of the features this chip has. It's a shame that of all those features, the only ones that will be used on most SBCs are the ARM cores and the simple I/O peripherals (SPI, I2C, GPIO). I don't have the skills yet to write an OS driver, but…

Where do you store the KeePass-DB? Where would you recommend me to store a Keepass-file? Usually I have my personal documents in my cloud account - but i am not sure if this is safe. Would it be safe to use the cloud for this file? Can i secure it even further, by adding another (extra) layer of security by encrypting the file. General question; How safe is this? What risks do I need to know about? what can i do with the KeePass password file, there are several arguments to decide where to store it. In my humble opinion, if the passwords are really, really important to someone, one should make the decision based on: - the risk of the file being …

There are many people who tend to use old phone chargers on there systems and wonder why things become problematic after a good while of usage. My recommendations to people who have this issue are the following 1 - if you are a *SERIOUS* modder or electronics engineer you will know all about bench power supplies and there benefits. 2 - for others who aren't in this category. I would like to share with you my preferred method to deliver power to dev boards. I utilse these shown in the link below. I have found these type to be incredibly stable after 18 months of running one nonstop on a live system i can happily describe them as rock solid and superbly over…

It's *amazing* what you can find reading the Armbian documentation! I dig the shell, even old-school in a virtual terminal or minimal server type setup. Normally that means going through some squinty-eyed hoops to get the Terminus console font installed with larger sizes in the first place on large monitors. Wait - what's this? sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup I did this in a virtual terminal, and allowed setup to pick the right character set for me. Then I blasted the framebuffer with the largest Terminus font size allowed. Perfection! Not a big deal to most, but having this be part of the standard distrib…

hello dear experts Where would you recommend me to store the Keepass-file? Well - for most of the use-cases usually i have all my personal documents in my cloud account. The pro: i can access it from everywhere in the world. With any device. But besides that i am not so sure if this is safe. Especially if it comes to such things like keepass: Some friends mentioned that it is not so safe: Question; would it be safe to use the cloud for the keepass-file? Can i secure it even further, by adding another (extra) layer of security by encrypting the file. the generalized question is this: How safe is it to store the keepass-file in the (wrong pla…

I needed a small zero cross detector to switch SSR's efficiently and properly in my DIY reflow oven so I designed these in KiCad, and built them. They are optically isolated (5000V Isolation) and Low power (less than 120mW) so are safe to hook up to any board supported by Armbian (or any other SBC) (provided you safely wired them to the mains) and produce a nice open drain low going pulse for 1ms (50Hz AC) centred dead around zero cross. (about 0.83ms for 60Hz AC). On the digital side they will interface to any logic level between 1.8V and 5V. The thing is I only need 2, and I have spares because I had to get 10 PCB's minimum. I have decided to build them…

I have the original enclosures, but they do not have any space for additional boards / wiring etc. And there is no way to mount the enclosure... it's nice and handy to be able to backup our os image and restore it, just in case. The problem is that a full os backup need the root partition to be mounted read only. And some of us are running the device without any monitor attached (headless) or it's not very practical to get acces to the sdcard (for exemple, when the device is installed in the electrical cabinet) So, I had the idea of creating some kind of ramdisk with some utilities (base tools, ssh, rsync...) to backup the "offline" root partition and send it to another computer. Ultimately, this process could be started also by network boot, by U-Boot script. When you decide to backup the root pa…

Hello Everyone, I'm currently doing an assignment for one of my classes, and in it, I have to give examples, using Java syntax, of *static* and *dynamic binding*. I found an example of static binding online that gives this example and running the program on interviewbit. public static void callEat(Animal animal) { System.out.println("Animal is eating"); } public static void callEat(Dog dog) { System.out.println("Dog is eating")…

I bought a Clearfog Base shortly after they came out and have been running Armbian on it since early on as my home router. In general this is a solid SBC for a home router and light weight server. 2 x gigabit copper NICs, and an SFP cage - nothing dangling off USB here m.2 SATA storage - about the best support for performant storage of any SBC I know of; m.2 SATA leaves eMMC and SD in the dust. It's not NVMe, but for this little box, it's great. 1GB of memory - this is enough to run a few containers for light weight services like caching DNS and DHCP USB console - rather than exposing a UART on a few GPIO pins, this includes an authentic FTDI chi…

I replaced original Arduino due bossac with custom bossac for udoo in Arduino due Tools in order to make ide see atmel sam3xe on udoo, but bossac didn't find it. I've tried super user access and chmod on bossac and on ttyxmc (internal Arduino due programming seirla port) With old armbian build it worked, but now not. Cheers

I followed the steps outlined in the instructions, and they worked very well for me with (10 ISPs) 4G dongles using PPP connections. TV Box Model tested: MXQ Pro 4K, 5G (H3 Allwinner), ISO: Sunvell 69. I started with Debian 10 and later upgraded to Debian 11. I also use a second USB 3.0 LAN card, as well as the dongles connected through a USB hub with an independent power supply. For more information, you can check the following resources: Installing the Perl dependencies took some time. Congratulation Igor for your new website design and layout! You have done a very good and excellent job, it is very clearly arranged and very descriptive! Many others should have a look and make some correctionbs to their website, because many show a very cumbersome design and are vey strange and difficult to mameuver! 5 Thumbs UP! Regards, Ireng

dear community i am so glad to be here on this great forum - this is a great place. i have installed Armbian on a. banana pi b. orange-pi and futhermore i will try to install it on Udoo Quad at the moment i am workin on a new plan: i am planning a Wi-Fi controlled rc-car using Arduino UNO, ESP8266 Websockets or UDP the question that arises here. how would you decide? i want to create an Arduino project about a Wi-Fi controlled (ESP8266) RC car using. - with a tight budget you can’t really buy everything you need at once. what is needed: An Arduino UNO An ESP8266 An L298N motor driv…

Hello Everyone! I faced with some problems with csi driver on mainline kernel. The study of the Internet did not give any result. Probably someone already done the same things, and could answer on couple of my questions? My configuration: custom board based on A20 SoC (quite similar with Olimex Lime2), armbian-buster-desktop 20.05.0, Linux Kernel 5.4.41, and OV5640 CSI camera connected to CSI0 in parallel 8bit mode. My questions are: 1) Can anyone confirm that the sun4i_csi module in Mainline kernel works (with any CSI camera)? 2) Does the sun4i_csi module work with CSI1 port too? 3) If someone already run OV5640 via CSI on A20 SoC, what is the maximum fps can…

https://forum.armbian.com/topic/11857-free-software-supported-wifi-card-phone-usable-esp8089-esp8266-esp32/ It says, that adding an usb ar9271 wifi card to a pinephone is not feasible because the wifi card uses to much power. How much power is acceptable for an usb ar9271 wifi card to use? I do not have extended equipment. I made the following arrangement. One pc. Connected an usb power meter. https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/61fKDfC3pgL._AC_SL1000_.jpg Connected an usb ar9271 wifi card to the usb power meter. Started an youtube video. After that downloaded an ubuntu image. Distance to router abo…

Java Periphery has finally been released! Java Periphery is a high performance library for GPIO, LED, PWM, SPI, I2C, MMIO and Serial peripheral I/O interface access in userspace Linux. This will replace User Space IO. I'm seeing GPIO write speeds of 500K/s from userspace. Compared to User Space IO and libgopid speeds of 2K/s. I switched from JNA wrapper generation to JNI wrapper generation. The build process is much simpler (only single install.sh) and building libgpiod is no longer required. The API follows c-periphery, python-periphery and lua-periphery. This should cover the widest array of SBCs and languages around. Java Periphery should work on Armbian/Ub…

Hi Armbians Maybe some of you already wanted to put your SBC in a professional data center and operate it as a standalone server for DNS, VPN, Tor, or whatever. That is exactly why I have put together a huge list of worldwide DC provider options, that are willing to colocate SBC‘s. It could certainly be of interest to one or the other. Check my list here: *** SBC colocation/ SBC hosting worldwide provider megalist ***

Java UIO offers robust Java interfaces optimized for Linux Userspace IO, emphasizing high performance. Engineered from scratch, it leverages contemporary kernel APIs, libraries, and cutting-edge code generation methodologies, embodying a state-of-the-art cross-platform solution. Rather than reinventing established paradigms, Java UIO harnesses existing standards, avoiding redundant development commonly observed in other IO libraries. Seamlessly supporting JDK 21 LTS, this framework integrates Project Lombok to streamline code, enhancing readability and conciseness. https://github.com/sgjava/javauio

Hello, I hope this is the right place to ask this question (if not, or if there are better places please let me know) I am looking for a very compact single board computer(SBC), that has at least two usb hosts, a low power consumption and ideally a thin form factor. I want to run to make a usb2.0 scientific camera wireless using a virtual usb server (https://www.virtualhere.com) which will compress (LZ4) and transmit the information via wifi. I have measured the usb data rate, it is about 23.5 megabytes/second. Thus, a wifi-ac dongle, connected to the SBC should be adequate for this purpose. Since I do not want the camera to share the USB host with the wi…

Hi Gang, would it be possible to get some Armbian gear at redbubble or somewhere else, so that we can show our love while supporting the project? I suppose the logo maker gets some money when someone buys the T-Shirt/design. Thanks.

I have been bouncing ideas around with@diozerofor using MMIO in a generic way to achieve fast GPIO for times when performance (bit banging, software based PWM, low CPU latency, etc) is required. This is my first attempt using a NanoPi Duo (H2+) which should work on any H2+ or H3 based SBC. What I've done is write a register mapper, so I can extract the register masks without having to do it by hand from the datasheet. Hand mask making is tedious and error prone. The generic part will come in by externalizing the register offsets and masks. This will happen after I build my next project using an Odroid C2. Also, since the Duo didn't have PUDs, so I could not map those. Tha…

When launching ddd in Armbian 4.5.1, the prompt isn't set properly and the terminal operation inside ddd isn't right. Launching gdb by itself works OK. When I try to load my executable for debugging, I get You can't do that when your target is `None' When I exit ddd, it complains that gdb is still busy. Anyone else seeing this? Why would ddd running natively under Armbian need to know its target when it doesn't need that anywhere else where its used natively? Chris

I've posted in the Armbian forums in the past about Kerberos.io video surveillance software. For some reasons it was (at the time) not always that easy or impossible to compile or get it up and running. But: Times have changed (for the good this time!) and I've tried it again on a H3 1GB memory OrangePi plus with kernel 5.4 using a *FRESH and CLEAN* Ubuntu Bionic Server image. I was able to get the Kerberos software 2.8.0 up and running straight away, just by *EXACT* following the instructions on the website of Kerberos.io (Generic installation Instructions page). It takes some time to compile ffmpeg and the machinery module, but it is certainly worth the eff…

One of the board members here wrote an article about a 12 node NanoPi-Fire3 cluster. I found it quite exciting (I don't get out much). It is a couple of years old. It seems to be very powerful yet energy efficient. Is this SBC still the King of clusters? I want to fool around with clusters, cluster software managers and process distributors, and perhaps do some coin mining (if that is feasible). Someone said this board has too little memory for coin mining, that 2gb would be better than 1gb. Pine have a 7 slot clusterboard which takes their PINE A64 (+) "Single Board Computer powered by Allwinner’…
