I would like to discuss the subject of failure and SBC systems of various brands. I just broke the Nanopi T2 module. I also had a damaged module of orangepi 2 and orange pi RK 3399. You have a lot of boards. Did you happen to be under the influence of overvoltages in the high temperature or period the use of the board broke down ?. Which producer is the worst in this respect?

Today I had a chance to test OV5640 on mainline kernel 4.17.2 and see the status of OV5640 and CSI drivers, thanks to FE work and the author of the driver (help name here...). I tested on NanoPi K1 Plus (H5) to verify the images in very low light conditions, so don't expect good quality. I could take some images using fswebcam and you should expect basic v4l2 functionality already works if not all. I think motion (did not test / had time to test it) can work with current OV5640 on mainline kernel. Grabbing Image is very fast, currently, Image size I can get are 320x240 and 640x480 pixels, above this i get a dark image. I have not looked at the driver source cod…

I know that you have a lot of to do, because there is a lot of new single boards... For considerate for the future support.: Nano pi k1 plus with H5 allwinner cpu. And also renegade single board from libre computers based on Rockchip RK 3328 the same as rock64. Both cpu's are supported in other boards so it will be easer.

Today I would give my original Banana Pi (A20 / 1GB Ram) a new life/work and installed for testing armbian Bionic dev with kernel 4.17 (for not trashing my normal Pihole - a OPi PC2 with armbian stretch) After installing armbian bionic I did try to install Pihole via curl -sSL https://install.pi-hole.net | bash but it "crashes" while starting dnsmaq - because it seems to collide with resolved at Port 53 see as reference : https://github.com/pi-hole/pi-hole/issues/2179 After this reference I did edit /etc/systemd/resolved.conf and inserted DNSStubListener=no as a active line. Spoiler # This file is part…

linuxgizmos Our June 2018 round-up of hacker-friendly single board computers comprises three resources: an overview of recent SBC market trends; this catalog; and a Google docs spreadsheet that tabulates the boards’ key features. I want to build a project for a USB camera with motion software detection and autonomous power. I have some difficulties to find clear information regarding the consumption of the different Orange Pi boards. And I'm not sure to choose model Zero, I96, Lite, or perhaps another one My project includes: - power bank: already I have one with 20.000 mah (5v/1-2A) - usb camera: I have one camera low resolution, which I believe is better to get a lower consumption - one physical switch: to shutdown gracefully, and avoid the SD corruption before the battery is exhausted I have seen there is some code for the switch in the Zero board, although I ignore i…

Hi - I flashed a new nanopineo2 with debian9 ( Armbian_5.44.180510_Nanopineo2_Debian_stretch_next_4.14.40 ) and set this to stable build before updating to latest "stable". Next step after reboot is to configure my static network ( eth0 ), but here things tend to be a bit different than previous flash ? Previously in advanced I edited /etc/network/interfaces to add my DNS-servers but in this build it seems " Network is managed by NetworkManager " so I instea I used " nmtui " to set these for "Wired Connection 1". Unfortunately I still see in /etc/resolv.conf : " nameserver 8.8.8.8 " first before my entries. I like to get rid of this nameserver but I am unable to…

Just as the title says, what would be a good recommendation for a mSATA to USB3 enclosure? Any other recommendation? @tkaiser any good/bad experience with this kind of enclosures?

(placeholder for a Board Bring Up thread -- now just collecting random nonsense) Board arrived today. Running with ayufan's Debian 9 image (using 1.8/1.4GHz settings for the big.LITTLE cores for whatever reasons instead of 2.0/1.5GHz) I checked for heat dissipation with Pine Inc's huge heatsink first. Huge heatsink combined with thin thermal pad shows really nice thermal values: below 50°C when running cpuburn-a53 on two A53 and two A72 cores in parallel with a fan blowing above the heatsink's surface Board in upright positition still running same cpuburn-a53 task without fan after 20 minutes reports still below 85°C …

Why dont you provide support to the Banana pi single boards ? Many of them very interesting. Support is also very weak and short. I know that the last 2 boards from bananpi were based on mediatek and realtek CPU. ( R2 W2 ) They was specialized single boards as router and storage NAS board. why not to try?

Hi I actually have an old Odroid C2 with Armbian and it's running quite good for pi hole and plex streaming (usb attached hdd) I'd like to replace the board with a new SBC but I can't seem to find the right one for me. I need - armbian good support - 2+GB ram - fast cpu - Gigabit Ethernet - eMMC support could be nice for fast OS - it will run headless - docker support - USB 3 support could be nice, otherwise USB 2 is ok I think it's all. There are a lot of SBC manufacturer and models (orange pi, banana pi, Raspberry pi, nano pi,...) and I can't really understand what is better for me Thank…

This seems to be a interesting project for some of the SBCs which are supported ba armbian. Maybe its - in some parts - also a "inspiration" for armbian? Shedbuilt A rickety GNU/Linux Distribution for ARM Devices Long-story short You can build an entire operating system capable of communicating over the Internet, playing games, and robots, from scratch on a computer that costs less than a well-optioned burrito. Here's an admittedly over-the-top and entertainment-focused video that demonstrates what Shedbuilt is caple of on sub-$10 devices, using only open-source software: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fS9DArYH6WI …

Hi there, I'm looking for a replacement for my NanoPi NEO (512M) fleet. I'm open to your suggestions. Things I do **not** like about NanoPi: * Unreliable Ethernet. A network interface is flipping all the time Up/Down. * 512 MB is not enough for a tor relay * Hardware watchdog does not work reliably. It works in synthetic tests but sometimes a board just freezes. Things I like about NanoPi: * Armbian support * Price * Size/form factor * Performance * Heat dissipation * Ethernet tap My use cases: * Tor router * Home DNS server * Monitoring server Prometheus for my SBCs and network equipment.

Some SBCs did get Bionic Beaver as testing or Dev-version.... like the Odroid C2 with Desktop but I was surprised about the CubieBoard1 and the Orange Pi Zero Had to install and test it Short question: the Bionic Beaver doenst seem to be in the Build-System: https://github.com/armbian/build Or didnt I missed it? Could this thread be a starting point for informations if another boards do get a bionic test/dev/(stable) build? Or will there be another new 18.04 Bionic Beaver armibian-Build-System in the future? Hi there Board! o/ This is me again tapping from your infinite wisdom. I will be emptying my pockets in the Canada trip and another item that I have in my shopping list is a Oscilloscope. And I'm flirting witha Rigol 1054Z (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B012938E76/) Far from being a Engineer (my major was in chemistry, heh), but some times I do feel the need to check out some waveforms. And I like bench stuffs - I'm not considering some software-defined oscilloscope that would do the same for half the price. Because I'm cranky :-P What's your opinion? I aim to stay behind the USD450 bar. Eager to …

Hi all o/ I'll be travelling to Canada in a couple of weeks (anyone visiting OpenStack summit in Vancouver?) and I was preparing my shopping cart. To my dismay, Tinker Board is off stock in both US and Canada resellers; I can only find rip-off prices from Marketplace and eBay! Hello all. I'm looking into enlarging my SBC collection. I'm mainly looking for a board that is power efficient, has got a fast cpu, and at least 2GB of RAM. This for 1080p video rendering with powerbanks, so power efficiency is very important. I'm now looking into the NanoPC-T3+ since it's an Octa core with 2GB of ram. (or the BPi M3?) Does anyone have got experience with this board in LINUX? I see there's an Armbian in testing. How far is this? Is there hardware video acceleration? Does the cpu perform as promised? What is the power consumption on it? I bought the Khadas Vim2 Max for this. But it doesn't perform well at all. It should replace my Odroid…

Someone sent a week ago a couple of 2.8" TFT Display ili9341 and asked me to wire it to an H5 and make it work. I have managed to wire it and although the FB is created and no error at all but the display is blank (black with no backlight enabled). I just need the ethernet connector. Does anyone know the pin connections to this? It's not marked. The double USB from orange pi zero IO expansion works fine but the audio out is a bit noisy. I had to use a separate audio port. This is one of the few boards with double SPIs and they both work fine. Thanks for the easy user overlay customization support. This is my $7.99 256mb neo core, note there is a chip missing (3rd picture). Starting up in X is slower - it waits for a second or two each time - don't know why, any ideas? You may want to try this if your orangepi zero plus with NAS IO expansion combination is running too hot, with Nanopi neo 2 it runs a bit cooler (~ 65 vs 70 in full load). Not sure if it is because of the slower CPU speed or the more exposed heat sink.

I must admit I don't really know what to do with my sbc's. After getting them set up there is nothing more I could think of to use them for. I guess part of the fun is in getting them set up, and to run them cool during native kernel builds. Just so it's not a complete waste of money, I spent more (though not a lot) to add dual screens to some of them. Any ideas what else I could use them for? I already have music players (a lot of them, DACs), NAS, home control, security camera, what else do you use them for? I haven't left any of them outside in the sun yet to try out solar power. So, I added dual screens to these ones (left to right, counter clockwise)…

You can't read every interesting news blog, annotation etc. about stuff related to tech, linux whatever is in this field. Open a new thread for all those stuff you might share with others here ends that also nobody reads it cause it's spread though various threads. So why not share them all in one thread? Idea: Share a link to the article in this thread with a short teaser what the article is about and maybe some opinions why you like the article. It should not be 'post link only without any description what the article is about'. So, I'll start with the first one (not that recent, but I think it's still worth to read): http://kroah.com…

Seems that hardware accelerated Videodecoding & GPU usage is the new 'hot topic' at the moment. A lot of this stuff is discussed in various topics and threads and subforums here. As nice at it is to bring this topics up, it's hard to follow them across the forum and when those questions come up from users you have to link the to a bunch of topics which they probably don't read cause it's simply to much to read (I now that this is a shitty argument, but reading is boring for most people in those days.. ). So why does it make sense to open another thread targeting this topic? This should summarize the things that work, no suggestions what could work, should work,…

I thought of asking here maybe someone can suggest something. So here are the specifications I am looking for: 1- CPU: has a crypto engine/ Security system. Almost all Allwinner Axx and Hx have crypto engines. 2- wireless connectivity Has all or most of the following: WiFi 2.4G, 5GHz and 3G/4G Module if possible. 3- Network connectivity: Has 1000 Mbps Ethernet. 4- USB : At least one A-type USB. Hello, I am wondering if someday tutorials will be made available for ones who like the idea of using single board computers for projects, but have not learned to write their own code. Raspberry has an overabundance of people sharing what they have created [this for example https://tutorials-raspberrypi.com/setup-raspberry-pi-node-js-webserver-control-gpios/] I have made use of what I have searched and found to make my website again [my site], but at least for the computer hosting my relay interface I want to use better boards with more RAM. Should I learn to write some code and get the satisfaction of making it work by myself or should I wait for a future…

I've done some load testing of my first prototype power "mezzanine" board (can't say "hat") The voltage drop of powering the RPi touchscreen off of the GPIO while the tinker is on micro-USB is insane, I was reading 3.9 Volts on the USB ports when I ran minerd --benchmark. I may have finally worn out the Micro-USB connector... This is a project for learning the ins and outs of kicad and get an idea of the capabilities of the PCB houses I have reasonably fast access to (Chinese ones unfortunately always get stuck in customs for a week or more on top of the normal shipping and fab times, so the cost savings is lost in time) I have some more interesting thing…

So i've installed a bigger battery on my cheap A33 tablet. Previously it had a 1700mAh battery (rated for 3000mAh actually) for a 2x1700mAh setup. It works fine and actually works for longer, but the battery percentage is not correct anymore, since it now drops to 5% and stays there for some time until it completely discharges. Does need a special calibration (pmic is AXP223) or will a simple charge/discharge calibrate things ?

Armbian noob here. I am looking for some guidance from the Armbian experts. I am familier with Debian 8 and 9 on x86/adm64 architectures as well as Raspbian on RPi's. Been using Linux off and on for 15 years. Just purchased some Rock64 boards and plan on using them for NextcloudPi, PiVPN, and PiHole. I just saw that Armbian has released a nightly of Debian Stretch for the Rock64. I have downloaded it and gotten it installed. Ran apt-get upgrade/apt-get update and all went well. Does this Armbian image have all the "standard" packages and utilities installed? Are their any other general packages/app that I need for a general server image? An…

Nothing like a good weekend challenge to occupy my inner nerd. I love this web interface NODE JS along with this relay plate RELAY PLATE and have it working with Raspberry PI3, but now I want to take advantage of the additional ram I have with Rock64. The process did not go without a hitch. I list the latest version of NPM in my machine and the web interface is working. I don't think the relays are getting triggered even though I painstakingly crossed the power pinouts and the gpio pinouts. Not sure if this can be adapted or if it has been done before. I am good at following those that know more than me, but do not consider myself knowledgeable enough to blaze new trails.…

Hi, I have a question regarding standard DNS server entry in resolv.conf: The Google DNS 8.8.8.8 is at the top followed by the one supplied by my DHCP service. That way the Google server will be queried first, which I think is wrong, considering privacy implications. Why is it hardcoded anyway? As I understand it, it comes from /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/head? this should not include anything. Would be nice If somebody could clarify why it is implemented that way. Thanx

as Info: differences to V1.0 : http://wiki.friendlyarm.com/wiki/index.php/NanoPi_NEO2#Hardware_Change_List - NanoPi NEO V1.1 1711's Audio connector is a 2.54mm 4Pin-header - NanoPi NEO V1.1 1711's Ethernet port is a pin connector. - NanoPi NEO V1.1 1711 has a CVBS output which V1.0 doesn't have - NanoPi NEO V1.1 1711 has two more mounting holes of 1.7 mm in diameter - NanoPi NEO V1.1 1711 has 1.1V/1.3V GPIO voltage regulation and - Popup TF Card Slot and maybe a 1GB RAM option - which will double the cost of the board

Since I've a pile of these boards lying about, and really prefer a proper case to a plastic one, I have one particular one that stood out to me: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079CF5FNX/ The case is aluminum, with machined end blocks and a perforated top. This would be my recommendation for any hot board like the Tinker Board, and to be honest the one I bought is quite nicely put together, with a somewhat industrial feel. Does anyone else have a favorite? I'm not really talking about those zebra cases or open-air acrylic/standoff sandwiches.

As I recently wrote I started to use the desktop with armbian. Two obvious missing things puzzle me, but that maybe as not many are using it: xserver restart (ctrl + alt+ backspace) key kombination is missing disabled by default, go to >settings>session & startup>autostart and add: "setxkbmap -option terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp" can this be added into a config file of XFCE as a standard? The other options that are available for setxkbmap "-option X" are determined by /usr/share/X11/xkb/rules/base.lst Text Editior - the only text editor available... I just released a new C library for communicating with those inexpensive 4-digit 7-segment LED displays: https://github.com/bitbank2/tm1637 They can run on 3.3V or 5V and draw between 1 and 15mA depending on the brightness setting. I purchased mine from an AliExpress vendor for 68 cents each with free shipping. They use a custom 2-wire communications protocol and must be "bit-banged" from 2 GPIO pins. In my demo, I assign pins 38 and 40 on my Orange Pi Lite.

I just released a simple library for the MAX7219 LED matrix controller. It allows controlling any number of cascaded controllers in a very simple way. I tested it on an Orange Pi Lite. Even though it says it needs 5V, I ran the board @ 3.3v, it worked fine and didn't require any 3.3v->5v level converters. Here's the code: https://github.com/bitbank2/MAX7219 And a video of it in action: https://photos.app.goo.gl/iO66bsy6Wk13lT1y2

Hi, UPDATE 26 of May 2018: minor text for better reading, Document section added tools, repository idea SITUATION: In our "day to day" exchange on Armbian we are probably to close to look at it the way it looks for a firsttime visitor. Many members of the community have seen that as well and wrote about it in the Forum - but they didn't come up with a solution. Now, neither do I have a solution nor do I have nice document, but I think we need to set some standard pillars of FOSS projects in order to overcome some of our well known problems. For the ones who joined armbian a while ago (me for example May 2015) have read about missing dev…

Since my current board (Cubieboard 2) has been kicked out of the game, it's time to move on to a new one. Is there any chance to see an Armbian version for the Banana Pi R2 someday? This board is winner for me because of the Dual SATA feature (the router, not so much). If there are no plans for this board, please tell me for how long you'll support the Cubietruck, since it's my second choice. Thx in advance...

Hello, [sorry if this is in the wrong forum category] I am a new user and have got my OPi zero running up until the console (starting message), via ethernet. I have used a router with IP 192.168.4.1 as DHCP server, which is not connected to internet. The routing table is accordingly similar to [1] Wifi is not yet set up. When I want to, it should connect to a different AP/router (say operating as 192.168.1.1 seen over wlan0), and therefore also the routes have to be adjusted. My question is: can I delete the default route in [1] while still retaining connection to the Pi via Ethernet? (from the PC which is on the 192…

All, I am looking for a 7 - 10" TFT display with SPI connection, and with touchscreen preferably via I2C, for a project of mine. I want to use the display to show just a static HTML page, without any window manager etc. Pretty basic principle I think. Looking at the website of www.buydisplay.com I see a few options with regards to the controllers used. The main options are: - RA8875 - RA8876 - SSD1963 I can find online references to the RA8875 being supported by fbtft, but there is also a statement on the github page of fbtft that there will be no more development of fbtft ... Before pulling the trigger on a display, I would real…

The nice dashboard screenshot above is used by @Fourdee to explain why DietPi is superiour to Armbian: 'With #DietPi, logs and DietPi scripts are mounted to RAM , this reduces SD card write operations vastly' -- while I don't understand the purpose to 'mount scripts to RAM' of course the idea to cache logs into RAM is great! That's why Armbian does it since 2014 already. While the above 'proof' is somewhat questionable (watching a 5 min period in a dashboard and once there's activity in one graph taking a screenshot with numbers without meaning) let's look into what makes DietPi that superiour compared to Armbian since it's always a great idea to improve even …

Just for the record: Banana people work on another MediaTek based board: https://github.com/BPI-SINOVOIP/BPI-files/commit/a3c53c233fd2059a43763a78b13ca1c5fd0b0f50 SoC is a MT7622A (dual core ARM Cortex A53 processor with some 'dedicated network accelerator', RAID/XOR engine, SATA and PCIe 2.0), latest bootloader commit suggests that the board will be equipped with 802.11ac (AC2600) Wi-Fi.

I would like to install a small mpd server (Music Player Daemon) that would read files from a usb disk, stream webradios and possibly be controlled by ir. What is the most lightweight and cheapest board that would exist and could do that ? The orange pi zero with an extension board or a usb audio card would have been perfect, but I read several posts about the lack of software updates and the never resolved kernel issues. How bad is it really ? And then what else would do the job?

Yesterday I did get a new little Bluetooth-Speaker, but without AUX - I rechecked some Bluetooth-Commands. But could never connect, because the Pi missed the protocol A2DP - which was only available with PulseAudio as Bluetooth-Module So I used my 2nd OrangePi One with USB-Bluetooth-Dongle and mainline-kernel for this challenge: ARMBIAN 5.38 stable Debian GNU/Linux 9 (stretch) 4.14.18-sunxi Linux opi-one-main 4.14.18-sunxi #24 SMP Fri Feb 9 16:24:32 CET 2018 armv7l GNU/Linux I like ALSA more than PulseAudio - I searched for ALSA and Bluetooth-Audio - and did found no good news about Audio and Bluetooth while using ALSA. On my journey to finding the best solution for cross SBC/cross language GPIO support I went through the same issues as Python by the C side author did it seems and landed on CFFI. This is faster than ctypes and seem more natural to program with. ctypesgen (the code generator) doen't really support Python 3, so I've hit a dead end there. It seems like JNA is still the best choice for Java bindings, so I'm sticking with that for now. In any event I threw together a button press app that uses CFFI and libgrpiod. I'll be updating my bindings project to support this soon. libgpiod version 1.1.devel Name: gpiochip1, label: 1f02c00.pinctrl, lines: 32 Press button…

Hi Forum, can I completely backup and restore Armbian boot/root/data partitions with tar (or something similar) and dates, rights, everything is saved and restored and the system boots? Hi everyone. I'm starting a project to learn about Big Data processing. Roughly, I'll be following the example set by Michael at http://diybigdata.net/odroid-xu4-cluster/ . From other posts he has made, some extra RAM could be useful, so I am interested in the 4GB ROCK64. My basic configuration will be ROCK64/64Gb eMMC/Pine USB3-SATA cable/HDD. I'm looking to buy 4 of these to start the project and do my development and testing before adding extra nodes to the cluster. It seems that the Pine USB-SATA cable performs well, but the SD card reader does not. I'd like to configure remote power cycling using GPIO from a monitoring SBC and a re…

On January 31st I decided to order two EspressoBIN boards with 2GB RAM each. What made me take the final decision was that the pfSense developers got pfSense running on the board (it's still in alpha, but it very much adds value to the board). In addition, Armbian's compatibility page (see the download page) lists two devices that I'm interested in: The USB3-to-Gbit Ethernet adapter. The Mini-PCIe-to-4-SATA-ports card. Note: This card will not be able to reach the full 6Gbit for SATA, but around 5Gbit, which is still quite good. And last but not least; Armbian of course needs some testers on this platform. Here are the t…

Hi Experts, Setup: Ubuntu Xenial image on Orange Pi Zero Target boots fine and WiFi working stable. If I remove xradio_wlan module (rmmod xradio_wlan) target start rebooting (shutdown followed by reboot) automatically within 2 minutes and no information is captured in syslog to indicate the reason of reboot. I understand that something is dependent on wlan that is causing system to shutdown. I am looking for help to identify what causes shutdown. Can you provide some pointers which log/service should I look at? Thank you in advance

I have deleted this project please see https://github.com/sgjava/userspaceio as it covers I2C, SPI and serial in addition to the new GPIOD. I posted instructions over in the H2/H3 forum, but my build project for libgpiod should work on any Armbian mainline distribution, so I'm posting a link here to my Github site. Hey all, I'm having a hard time choosing a board for my next SBC project. I've decided on the orange pi zero form factor unless someone can persuade me otherwise. Basically my options and reasons are as follows: Orange Pi Zero 512MB - H2+ - cheaper, half the cost of the others. - fast Ethernet on board. Orange Pi Zero Plus 2 - Better mainline support than H5 - smaller vertically than Pi Zero - hdmi - emmc on board Orange Pi Zero Plus 2 - faster dram speed (can't remember where I read that) - emmc on board - same small vertical size - seems more power hungry /sensi…

Hi all! I'm new to Armbian so share my experience in this section. After several failures I managed to find an image that boots on my Banana Pi M2+ (Armbian_5.34.171121_Bananapim2plus_Debian_stretch_next_4.13.14_desktop). Everything worked nicely from the box, thanks all developers for a great job (but indeed, huge penguin looks a bit frightening on 55" TV). While setting up WiFi I found that the board doesn't "see" my AP (while all neighbours' were there). After playing with AP's settings i figured out that it's not visible if Control Channel is set to 13. When I disabled autoselection of channel 13 on the AP, the board was able to conn…
