My Orange Pi Zero (rev 1.4) has a SPI flash module soldered to the underside. I can see the devices /dev/spidev0.0 and /dev/spidev1.0, and I can write to them and read from them (with dd), but the data I read from them is always just null bytes. Obviously then I can't create a filesystem on them. Is it possible to create a small filesystem on the SPI flash to add files? If not, how is it possible to store data on the SPI flash? I'm running Armbian 5.30 with kernel 3.4.113-sun8i.

Ok, so, first of all, I am a complete noob. I bought Banana Pi thinking that it is similar to Raspberry Pi's architecture but it's obviously not. I bought a 240x240 Waveshare 1.3 inch hat and I was wondering how to get it working on my Banana Pi Zero (H2+). On Raspberry Pi I can use Juj's fbcp-ili9341 driver but it's probably not compatible with Armbian, right? How do I go about it? Also, it would be nice to know how to detect buttons (that are on the hat) and convert them to key strokes. Thanks!

Greetings, i want to run some shaders on a headless OrangePI Zero (H2+/Mali 400 running standard Armbian on mainline kernel). I saw there are drivers available now. Is there a binary blob of the driver available somewhere? Or maybe a simple HOWTO? I don't want to mess with driver compilation if I don't have to. I just want to run my shaders on that GPU.

Hi, I want to use a gpio in CON12 to wakeup orange pi 3. But I can not figure it out. I am using armbian 5.4.43. I have done some researh about this question. It seems the basic process shoule be: 1、choose the right pin to wakeup. Cause some pins can not support interrupt and wakeup event. But I can not find which gpio support wakeup event. It seems I should choose pin on PL or PM ports. But according the schmatic, lots of them have been used as other usages: PIN DEFINE CFG PL0 PMU-SCK 3 PL1 PMU-SDA 3 PL2 RECOVERY …

Hello everyone! You need to run an orange from battery power. I achieved by lowering the frequency of the current to 160mA. But I can't turn off the GPU. since I don't need it and ethernet. uname -a Linux orangepione 5.9.14-sunxi #20.11.3 SMP Fri Dec 11 20:31:12 CET 2020 armv7l GNU/Linux root@orangepione:~# I installed the h3consumption utility, but it does not output information to the console. root@orangepione:~# h3consumption -p root@orangepione:~# from teams root@orangepione:~# h3consumption -g and root@orangepione:~# h3consumption -g off change but no current. Hello, I am experimenting with canbus board mcp2515. I managed to get it recognized and probably working with OPI one , with nightly 5.32 release, by following steps in this tread https://forum.armbian.com/index.php?/topic/3588-can-bus-support-orange-pi-zero/&page=2 But at the moment I was unable to get this done with 5.2 stable version. As I understood there is only possibility to use DTO only on nightly versions, correct? Or I could get this done also on 5.2 desktop version? Ether way, maybe there is a way to install desktop environment on 5.32 nightly? (I tried a lot of GUI - xfce4, lxde, ubuntu and so on, and noone w…

Hey guys, I would like to interface a small RGB24 LCD on the H3 GPIO, similar to this on raspberry pi : https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/hardware/raspberrypi/dpi/README.md http://blog.reasonablycorrect.com/raw-dpi-raspberry-pi Is this feature already present on armbian device tree overlay? If no, how would one make it? Could someone help drawing the big picture so I know where to start? After having a look at this section : https://docs.armbian.com/Hardware_Allwinner_overlays/ I understand that it would require writing a dt overlay (.dts file) to attribute the different functions to the GPIOs. But then how to wri…

Hi all, I am running a lime2 board with trusty as a server. Now I wanted to upgrade to xenial and used the standard Ubuntu way using "do-release-upgrade". Since that failed and resulted in a not booting image I was now wondering if this is the right approach for armbian as well. I was searching the docs but couldn't find what I was looking for. Thanks Chris

Hello, I don't know if this is board related or probably armbian related... anyway. In my old banana pi (4.19.13-sunxi) htop (version 2.1.1) is like this: While on every other linux PC, server or whatever I have it looks like: The small and stupid difference is in those blue "tree view" lines (under the Command column), which I don't really like nor understand. Is there a way to set those lines as they normally should be? (and why was it set???) Thanks

With a NanoPi Fire3, OrangePi Pc2 and an OrangePi Zero H5 I had not this issue. The folder /sys/kernel/mm/hugepages does not exist; the folder /proc/sys/vm has not the value or file that tells how mutch is the hugepages amount.

Allwinner video HW decoding on A10/A20 using VDPAU and GLES zero-copy support for Linux There is (unofficial) support available for video HW decoding and embedding the video zero-copy via GLES within Kodi using libvdpau-sunxi and VDPAU, i.e. unlike the kodi support from rella/empatzero/others the GLES layering (video overlays) do work completely in this implementation. Additionally my driver implementation supports DivX/XVID/MS-MPEG and has sprite support for MPEG-4 over the official libvdpau-sunxi implementation. Additionally there is HW JPEG decoding support available in Kodi too, e.g. watching photos these get decoded via the Allwinner HW. (unluckily pic thumbnails…

Hi everybody I'm using Orange PI One with OS Armbian Debian GNU/Linux 8 (jessie) 3.4.112-sun8i (Server) I need to convert some videos for make video stream(H264) but it works so slowy(3~10 fps) when I use ffmpeg. I think ffmpeg works slowly because it doesn't use HW Codec so how can I enable it in H3 CPU and use it in ffmpeg?

I have an OPi PC+ running Armbian. Bought an RTC called "DS3231 for Pi" and connected the 3.3V, ground, SDA and SCL pins to the GPIO connector. Ran "sudo i2cdetect -y 0" and it prints a table with "UU" in position 0x68. Ran "hwclock -w -f /dev/rtc1" and the response was "bash: hwclock: command not found" I looked in a subdirectory of /etc/ and found fake_hwclock and hwclock.sh Can anyone tell me what is wrong? Perhaps I should have modified something else before running hwclock? Thanks...

Hi I have NanoPi-M1 board. It has two type of Ubuntu-Core as you can see here(https://www.mediafire.com/folder/3q2911p1qp33p/NanoPi-M1Board#dc73df73c6dk6) with kernels (3.4.39 amd 4.11.2). But when I try modinfo fbtft It says there is no file or directory like this! But I think it should be exist in kernels with version above 4.10. By the way, I need this kernel support to running my LCD! Are there any Armbian version like Ubunto core with this module support on kernel? Or can I add this support to yhose Ubuntu files in above link? how?

Hi. I'm using Cubietruck, and installed Ubuntu server(mainline) on it. Suddenly, I can't write to disk(SD card). Actually, yes I can. I could create, edit, or even delete files, but all the changes are gone after the Cubietruck is rebooted. The deleted files are back, and created files are gone. What should I check? My SD card is Samsung Evo 16GB, and I'm running Cubietruck for more than 2 years. I have never encountered this weird situation.

Greetings all. I am having no success getting access to gpio pins in NR using opi-gpio. I am trying to re-build a system that I messed up due to an update. The update broke access to the 1-wire host adapter I had running on I2C. I have searched and read a lot trying to find a solution but I am not making enough sense of the solutions I read to even know if they apply or if I am applying them correctly. Very frustrating because I had this working once but that was a number of versions ago for both armbian and NR. Also, the gpio pins were working even after the I2c update. In the process of 'fixing' that I started over with current armbian: mil…

The documentation on the Orange Pi Zero Plus 2 is somewhat scarce. I couldn't find information on the GPIO map for the 26-pin header anywhere, but I manually mapped it. I did this with an LED on each successive pin and testing through the /sys/class/gpio driver until I found the one to control it. This caused a bunch of resets and eventually corrupted my sd card, but I got the info Each of the numbers below is the GPIO number used for /sys/class/gpio. For example, 110 means gpio110. The list is by pin number from 1 to 26. A value of -1 means unavailable (as far as I could discover): -1, -1, 12, -1 (pin 1,2,3,4) 11,-1,6,0 (pin 5,6,7,8) -1…

I live in the desert in California and the only Internet access I have is using PDANet on my phone. Is there a way to build an SD Card using rufus (which is a great app by the way) that I can use to load LXDE on my Olimex Micro? Once I get the desktop loaded I will get PDANet working on Olimex, but this seems like the lessor of two evils. I have both Jessie and Wheezy working and I'm still running off of the SDCard's. I have SSH working in both versions if that helps. thanks in advance. Mike

Just wanted to save some time of a person who will think of trying to do this. It crashes all the time with acceptable settings. With a tiny world and minimal server settings(and disabled watchdog), it works but it's unplayable. Server can't keep up even with a free falling player. I have heatsinks and fan on the pi so I don't think it's about throttling. I think this CPU is insufficient for this task.

Hi. I'm using CubieTruck and Armbian mainline up to dated version. The CT is a headless server, so I don't connect any cable to it. Hello, I just started to use my old BananaPi M1 (Armbian 23.8 Bookworm) to check sensor values by onewire and i2c. At last there was no problem with onewire But I cannot get I2c to work. /boot/armbianEnv.txt overlay_prefix=sun7i-a20 overlays=i2c2 w1-gpio param_w1_pin=PI3 For onewire I had to define "param_w1_pin=PI3" even if my onewire sensor is connected to GPIO7. for I2C I checked "lsmod | grep i2c" but couldnt find anything. So ieven if it is not correctly activated, I could run "i2cdetect -y 2" and could find my sensor at 0x76 but couldnt communicate with it. I think I need to load "i2c-bcm2708 i2c-dev". Ho…

Hi All First post here. Have been using Rpi Zero 2W for a couple of years in various installations and other then speed been happy with it. So got an Orange Pi Zero 2 W in an attempt to use it as a plug in replacement for the Rpi. Installed Armbian and other than a booting issue, it all works. The first obstacle is the i2c, it is obvious that is nowhere near as easy as a Rpi to set up. I have read many posts and get more confused as the days go on. So, the question: Is there a step by step instruction on how to enable I2C. I am connecting 2 x ADS1115 A2D converters, one at &H48 and the 2nd…

Hi, I just bought an RTC module for my Banana Pi M2, but when scanning for i2c devices I noticed that there are no i2c device nodes in /dev using the latest Armbian version (5.15). Is there any way to get it working? Modprobing i2c-dev or any other modules I've found didn't help Thanks in advance!

Hi, I try working with i2s driver on last armbian (5.99 kernel 4.19.84) with nanopi neo and found trouble with I2S clock - it has very excessive jitter (see attached screen from my oscilloscope). I use small dts overlay for enable i2s and mainline i2s code without changes and with changes from codekipper, nanopi neo and neo 2 with same result, but old armbian image 5.65 (4.14.17) working without problem. I also found a mention of a similar problem on forum volumio sun8i-h3-i2s0.dts /dts-v1/; /plugin/; / { compatible = "allwinner,sun8i-h3"; fragment@0 { target-path = "/"; __overlay__ { pcm5102a: pcm5102a { #sound-dai-cells = <0…

Hi all, Recently i have purchased an orange pi lite2 board(H6) for codec audio streaming.I would like to establish the interface between Orange pi Lite 2 (H6) and AC108(codec board) for audio recording.I have downloaded Android source code and start making changes in Fex file, but couldn't get any luck. I am confusing in which I2S driver need to be used for H6 to communicate with codec (AC108). I am totally new to orange pi boards. so, please clarify following doubts... 1).which i2s driver needs to be map with codec(AC108) driver? 2).what all changes are required in Fex file? 3).How to set sysclk, clkdiv, fmt ? I flashed the latest Armbian image on my NanoPi Neo 2 Plus's emmc. According to https://linux-sunxi.org/Linux_mainlining_effort I2S is not part of the mailinke kernel for H5. I can use I2S with Friendlyelec's images. However, I prefer Armbian. Is it somehow possible to use I2S with an Armbian image on this board?

I just noticed there isn't a i2s/i2s0 overlay for the mainline kernel series: Linux orangepipcplus 4.14.78-sunxi #412 SMP Fri Oct 26 11:37:04 CEST 2018 armv7l GNU/Linux https://github.com/armbian/sunxi-DT-overlays/tree/master/sun8i-h3 Is it a simple matter of just adding some text files for DT? Or was i2s intentionally left out because or some conflict for example? (I had good luck with legacy on Banana Pi Pro a long time ago with fex, so I'm guessing it's a unintended omission?)

Hi, i am trying to get the Respeaker 2 Mic Pi hat working on a Banana Pi Zero M2. The HAT uses the WM8960 codec and generates its own I2S MCLK. Hello, community. For a while now, I've been trying to configure the input and output of i2s0 without success. The closest I've come to a result was with the adau7002 configuration, but I'm experiencing synchronous noise, as if the issue were related to a CLK. Let me provide some details to see if anyone can guide me. I have a Banana Pi M2 with Armbian 23.11.1 Bookworm and Linux 6.1.13-current-sunxi. I have a pcm1807 connected to the input, configured with SPI, outputting i2s left justified in 24bit, and operating as a master. The pcm is connected to a 24.5MHz crystal. My goal is to configure the system to capture audio in a generic i2s format and then play it b…

Hi Igor, Thank you for all your work. I was looking at your website and found out that page with Bananapis is missing some content (FAQ is missing, I assume that it is the same as on orange pi pages. Also in "Graphics desktop environment upgrade ready. (kernel 3.4.x only) Possible further upgrade to desktop hardware acceleration." - upgrade ready has broken link). Some parts of text looks like outdated too. Would you be a modern superman with unlimited free time and update that page? I am interested in accelerated desktop environment and all 2D acceleration. But I was unsuccessful in finding more about it. OK, I have not found anything. Would you be so king and give…

Hi Igor, hi all, I use a BPi M1 and today I tested Igor's debian wheezy 4.1.2 image. It works really great. Thanks a lot. As mentioned in the FAQ I had a look at /etc/init.d/cpufrequtils. As written there it is possible to change the frequencies. The possible values are stored in "scaling_available_frequencies". The default value for "max_speed" in Igor's image is "max_speed=1010000". But this value ist not available inside "scaling_available_frequencies". "cpufreq-info -m" tells the current policy: frequency shoukd be within 480-960 MHz. 960 MHz is the maximum value in "scaling_available_frequencies". Normally BPi is able to run at 1008 MHz. How can I change…

While doing some testing of multiple things I decided to build 2 images, fresh/new for my nanopineo's also trying to have the resulting image as close as possible to what I have running on the nanopineo's for years since 2022 or so. That was originally Armbian Buster and I have been tweaking the installations to match other computer installations. Main thing is split the root partitions into a rootfs (Btrfs) and a bootfs (Ext4). More recently, I did more changes, such that I can run the whole image as KVM and/or systemd-nspawn container. The 1st image was adding extension 'u-boot-menu'; build ended in success, but have not tested it on HW. I saw in extlinux.c…

Hi there, I tried your images for orange pi, but doesnt work on orange pi mini 2. I tried ALL the images on the factory site, but somehow they placed copies of images for other models. Any ideas? Great work btw!

TL;DR: The small H2+/H3 boards unlike their bigger siblings are all prone to overheating due to smaller PCB size (on the larger boards the PCB's groundplane acts somewhat as a large heatsink dissipating heat away from the SoC). Due to mainline kernel settings not being optimized currently all these boards are slower under constant load compared to legacy kernel. This should change but won't unless someone is looking into it and spends some time on this. Two areas that deal with this overheating tendency or are somewhat related are thermal protection / throttling: use the thermal sensor(s) inside the SoC to downclock various engines if specific tre…

In Ubuntu Xenial how do we disable framebuffer switching and font switching? My Orange Pi Plus 2e v1.1 has the usual problem with HDMI-to-DVI converters but it's unusual in this case because it's switching framebuffers and fonts. The screen appears just fine during boot, but just after the message "Starting kernel..." the screen blanks and goes into power-saving poweroff with no return. I've seen this before, and I have tried several things to prevent the dead screen. I encountered a very strange boot behavior on OrangePI Plus 2E. When I boot from SD card with the desktop Armbian image, I'm having just an input of some color on HDMI (photo attached). No U-boot output on screen, but considering UART output both U-boot and system boot with no errors (log file is attached). Boot with the server Armbian image goes just fine, except no U-boot output on screen (only on UART) and screen resolution is 1280x720, while native resolution for the display is 1920x1080. Until recently everything worked just fine with both desktop and mainline images, and U-boot giving proper output on screen in 10920x1080 resolution. What I tried so far: …

Hello, I'm using a BPI M2 Zero (with H3 Chip) to control two relays on CON2-P05 / PA11 and CON2-P03 / PA12. I want to understand the feasibility of installing Armbain on a board that is currently Tina Linux. The board has an Allwinner R528 processor and an emmc . The R528 is not a well known Allwinner processor but it is essentially a D1 with two Arm-a7 processors instead of a RISCV processor. It also is a essentially the same processor as a T113-s3 but in a different physical package. I see the mangopi-mq and the nehza have the D1, but I'm not sure it helps. Hi. I would like to install Armbian on Cubieboard2 with eMMC as internal storage and have faced some problems. The first challenge was to make eMMC accessible, it was solved using .fex from cubieboard sdk for this revision (also tried cubieboard2dual.fex, but without any effect). The second problem was behavior of nand-sata-install included in desktop image - it overwrite wrong root partition (external SD instead of eMMC), but it was also solved using latest version of nand-sata-install. But after installation, system isn't booting from eMMC. Since root filesystem is successfully copied to eMMC, I think there is problem with bootloader. Is there an…

Note that on the same board, the official debian image provided by Olimex is working and can be installed in eMMC Checking with "dmesg | grep mmc", I don't find mmcblk1 (only mmcblk0).
