I got an Orange Pi zero with expansion board and tried many images , the original ones, h3droid and armbian legacy...by the way, all the systems show the image in a looping on my tv(rolling from bottom to top). Is there something to fix it or any reason that can cause it?

Dear All, I need to install a MongoDB due to install unifi controller. Base on the documatation (UniFi - How to Install & Update via APT on Debian or Ubuntu) version 2.9.10 is recommend . You can find the latest installation guide for Ubuntu here, and Debian here. Both does not work. I've got the following error message when performing "apt-get update", I now this is the MonoDB version 3.4, but I got the same message on the recommended version. To be honest, I'm not a debian expert :-( Thank you for your assistance BR Patrick

I'm trying to use armbian on orange pi one, and it does not start. Previously I used the armbian, however I needed to format the card, now I am putting the same version of armbian 5.25 server and desktop does not work, I tried version 5.35 and tbm does not start, the non-image card does not light any led. However, when using both debian xfce and ubuntu xfce for orange pi one of orangepi.org, the board called displayed video and is working.

OK, folks, I have I2C working for Luma.OLED, but now I'm trying an SPI display (SSD1331) and having some issues. I modified OPi.GPIO pin mappings as follows (see below), but I'm wondering if my SPI configuration is correct. I'm using overlays=spi-spidev and param_spidev_spi_bus=1, but I'm wondering if I should also be using CS1 configuration as well since I'm using SPI bus 1 (bus 0 is reserved for flash). i.e. param_spidev_spi_cs=1 and overlays=spi-add-cs1. I only ask this because the Luma.OLED instructions say "Because CS is connected to CE0, the display is available on SPI port 0. You can connect it to CE1 to have it available on port 1. If so, pass port=1 in your seria…

My Orange Pi Prime freezes when compiling anything major (Ruby, CPython). It completely locks up halfway through. No error or kernel panic from serial either. HDMI output goes black. I've tried: Better cooling, different brand SD cards (Sandisk Ultra, Samsung Evo from reputable suppliers), different power supplies, and even disabling swap. Tried my Lab Bench Power Supply at 5.00, 5.10, 5.20 and 5.35 volt, volt drop is about 0.1 volt measured at the board, and power usage at 400-700mA depending on the load. Tried `stress` in all sorts of configurations for times up to 1 hour, this does not crash the board. Iozone also does not crash the …

I was configuring onboard wifi of OPI ZERO, rev. 1.1 with the provided tool armbian-config. On one board it went just OK, on the second it froze, so I manualy powercycled the board. After that the board does not boot. I connected the serial console and here is the output I got: U-Boot SPL 2017.09-armbian (Nov 20 2017 - 02:53:16) DRAM: This is my first time troubling with u-boot, so I have no idea what this means, but it should give me more output. I will try to look, if there is 1.5V at the 1_5V pad.

I got an Orange Pi PC with Armbian Ubuntu Desktop installed. It runs perfectly fine. 1080p resolution, sound, ethernet, browsing, what-have you. It can even play x265 videos flawlessly (which is why I got it for as my RPi3 can't). Highest temp is 46C so far (with or without a heat sink and no fan). Anyway, I've updated and upgraded and then installed Kodi. My media is on my NAS, so I input my SMB info, and it connects fine. But as it reads the media, Kodi just shuts off on its own. No crash report or anything. It just closes and I'm back on the desktop. Re-opening it starts Kodi up for a sec and then closes itself. Deleting the user folder under a Kodi directo…

Hi. I've been using my Cubietruck for some time now without any issues. It is not directly connected to the outside world and is only used for some home automation. It boots via SD -> the SSD and has an internal battery as UPS. Really happy with it. Last year I migrated from Wheezy to Jessi so now I am at: ARMBIAN Debian GNU/Linux 8 (jessie) 3.4.109-sunxi I still receive the updates via ap-get update && upgrade, however should I be updating major like kernel? As this thing is used for home automation I am not looking forward to large down times. ;-) tnx for your honest responses.

I am trying to setup a 5ghz access point on D-Link DWA-171(according to wikidevi, it's 8811au) + NanoPI NEO PLUS2. I use the testing armbian image with latest update. The hostapd can enable the 802.11a 5ghz AP mode with ht_enabled (but it says this chip doesn't support 802.11ac) I can see the SSID shows in the phone. If I try to connect it, it will fail and says the station is out of range. When the phone is trying to connect this AP, hostapd doesn't output any connection log even in debug mode. Also, although I set the channel to 40, the WIFI analyzer on the phone shows it is using 38. dmesg Spoiler …

I'm working on a Duo project that needs SPI and this is how I configured and tested it without the mini shield. Requirements: NanoPi Duo with test Armbian image 1 female to female jumper wire Enable SPI on boot: sudo nano /boot/armbianEnv.txt Add spi-spidev to overlays= Add line param_spidev_spi_bus=1 sudo reboot If everything worked you should have /dev/spidev1.0. Hello, I use Orange Pi Zero + 4 ports USB hub + CM108 USB-Audio cards with mic-in. All by default. Each mic is captured with sipmle commands like: arecord -v -r 44100 -c 1 -D "hw:CARD=Device_1,DEV=0" -f S16_LE > mic1.wav When 3 cards capturing simultaneous all working well. But if I start capturing with 4th card simultaneous I get two cards with crackling recorded audio. I even can see that arecord saves less data from these two cards (file size is less than with 3 cards). No error/warning provided anywhere (dmesg, syslog, arecord). Moreover, if I stops recording from one card - it becomes normal fo…

In this post tkaiser says disabling HDMI and the GPU on H3 boards can reduce power consumption by 200mW. Is it possible to do this on a headless Orange Pi Zero 2+ H5? I don't believe I can use h3consumption or edit FEX files because I'm on the H5 mainline kernel. I tried setting monitor=none in armbianEnv.txt, but I didn't notice any appreciable difference using an inline USB power meter.

Hello, Just started on the latest Neo2 Ubuntu (Armbian_5.34.171121_Nanopineo2_Ubuntu_xenial_next_4.13.14) as we were tired trying to get around the challenges of the Ubuntu Core provided by FriendlyARM. Have enabled SPI we think (armbian-config->system/hardware/spi-spidev) and rebooted, but even after full power cycle we don't see anything in /dev/spi*. Is there anything special/additional we need to do to get SPI working (which we know does from our Ubuntu Core build). Thanks Rob

I have been searching the net trying to find out how to set up the WiFi interface on an Orange Pi or a Raspberry Pi 3B as an access point. I have to have an access point for a project I have in hand. I found the instructions by Lim Han Yang but they just failed entirely on two out of three candidate boards with the third, an Orange Pi PC Plus, producing a point that is visible to an Android tablet but refused to authenticate. I tried the create_ap procedure from github but that crashed on all three boards when dnsmasq hung. I tried ‘armbian_config’ on the Orange Pi PC Plus which was running the appropriate Armbian image. That didn’t do anything usable. Reasonin…

Hi guys, I've searched for some days now, but couldn't find any infos. My problem is: If I want to boot my Orange Pi Zero without Ethernet, it just wont start. It seems like it is waiting for me to put in the cable. This can't be normal, can it? I ask, because, what am I supposed to do if I like my device to connect exclusively through WiFi? Or connect to nothing at all, till I need some type of connection. For me, it is important to connect only through WiFi at the moment. The OS's I've tried: Armbian Debian Jessie "mainline" and "legacy", no difference between them. Thanks, Pyro

Hello, I'm new to this forum and Armbian. I've got an Orange Pi Zero 2+ H5 running the Armbian_5.34.171121_Orangepizeroplus2-h5_Ubuntu_xenial_next_4.13.14 image. It's connected to a device via UART1 using pin 1 for 3.3V, 6 for GND, and 8/10 for TX/RX. I've been trying unsuccessfully to use pyserial in a Python script to read data from the ttyS* devices, but I can't seem to cat anything from them either. I've tried moving the device to a RaspberryPi Zero W and I'm able to read the output from ttyS0 successfully. I did have to run raspi-config to enable the UART on the RPi, but I'm not aware of an equivalent on the OPi. I believe I added the uart1 overlay to my…

Hi all, I'm currently running Armbian 5.36 Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS 4.11.1-sun50iw2. This was / is a local armbian build that I performed a few months ago to resolve an issue that I saw at that time in the network stack that prevented ipsec working correctly. I've performed apt update / apt upgrade since however cat /proc/version still reports the version as that which I manually built back in June. Fast forward to today and I'd like to try out some traffic shaping tc rules but I'm running into some difficulty, which is making me doubt if my kernel has the support needed for iproute2. The following works without any issue to list existing rul…

I'm running a dockerized VDR server on the BPi, still on bananian. Every time I installed armbian, I had to discover that video playback on remote devices started to stutter. Without knowing about the details, my guess is that this is owed to the fact that the mainline kernel build does not feature hw video decoding. (Though I'm not sure whether bananian had it actually.) Unfortunately I cannot use the legacy kernel build, as docker is not supported on that platform. Is there any chance to kind of enable hw video acceleration on the mainline build? I saw some posts here and there in the forum on that topic, but none seemed really having solved it d…

Hi, With an Orange Pi Zero Plus I‘d like to run a DLNA (UPnP) music server for streaming flac files - means music only - to certain clients via LAN, for instance a network AV receiver. Hello there! Its nice to meet everyone and thank you so much for having me! I have this great project i'm working on involving 30 orange pi zeros. You see SD cards are expensive when you need to buy 30 of them so I have been trying for about a month now to make armbian work without the SD card. The idea is to boot into the os get a few things running and then remove the card and boot another pi. I have tried creating a ramfs mount and copying/mounting (what I believe are) all the requirements and then using chroot. But that doesnt work at all. I'm imagining that outside of chroot services are still running and once they cant write to some file…

New toys to play The NanoPi Neo Core and Core2 are the Core-PCB without Connectors. Only Pin-holes in 2.54mm Pitch. But as the Pictures did show - there will be a Docking-Board like on the NanoPi Duo The price for the normal NanoPi Neo jumps from $7,99 to $9,99 and the new Neo Core now costs $7,99 (256MB and no eMMC) BUT has optional - also like the Neo Core2 (here 8GB default) - 8GB eMMC (512MB and 8GB eMMC = +$10 on the $7,99 Neo Core) The Neo Core2 does cost $24,99 but do have 1GB of Ram and (default) 8GB of eMMC (more options later). (long description show also - a obsolete? - option for only 512MB. But the board…

I did a apt-get upgrade with the current Ubuntu/Debian images and the wifi sharts on the 512MB Duo. Didn't see anything in syslog to indicate an issue. A temp fix is to freeze the kernel updates in armbian-config.

Hi, Noobee here. I'm using a NanoPi NEO with the latest legacy image updated. Using ssh to access device. Linux Lap 3.4.113-sun8i #4 SMP PREEMPT Wed Nov 22 13:45:28 CET 2017 armv7l armv7l armv7l GNU/Linux In the journalctrl log I'm getting repeated failures for ntpd and cron about every minute. 1) The router that I'm connected to is IPv4 only. In nmtui I'v set the connection to ignore IPv6, but it seems that IPv6 has not been disabled. A IPv6 IP address has been assigned to the wireless interface. Should I be doing something else? 2) Cron is constantly doing something with armbian-updates. Is this normal…

Hi, I would like to know if there is a way to set the display resolution to 640x480, to use with an old CRT screen from a IBM PS/1 model 2011 that I want to revive. I know about h3disp, but it only has high resolutions, and that old screen does not want to sync correctly to anything other than VGA. I use an Orange Pi One, with a HDMI to VGA adapter and Armbian 5.35, with legacy kernel 3.4.113 Thank you! -Alexandre

Hi there, my BananaPi won't boot after a (maybe failed) apt-get update. Is there anything i could try to make it work again? While apt-get upgrade was running, I saw (iirc) in the log that the kernel directory (?) isn't empty (?). This message stayed there for quite a long time but the update process ended without any error messages. Thank you.

Hi, I've been playing around with the latest build (Armbian_5.37_Orangepiwin_Debian_stretch_next_4.14.5.img.gz) just to see how things are going and I've noticed that the wifi has gone ? I saw that it doesnt talk about patching the ap6212 firmware anymore. Had a look around but couldnt see anything. I know it's a dev build but I hope that it's just a missing config file from that build branch or something. Thanks TB

Dear Armbian community, not sure if this the right place for this thread, please feel free to move it. I'm testing the Debian Installer Buster (alpha release) after seeing that there is (partial) support for the 5 there is (partial) support for the•Orange PI zero (H2+) and other boards. It seems that the u-boot packages in Debian miss the u-boot build for the Orange Pi zero and support for the Ethernet controller as it seems it is not the mainline kernel yet and seems to be needing some work in order to be available in kernel 4.15. Armbian already includes the u-boot build and has support for the Ethernet controller of the Orange…

Hello, I'm a bit confused about the documentation, to be precise the hardware notes > Allwinner Generic > reconfigure video output part. It lists various options regarding video output. Then it states Now I see, inside boot, a "armbianEnv.txt" and the mentioned "boot.cmd". However, the default boot.cmd doesn't contain a saveenv line. Also, the head of the boot.cmd clearly states Can someone lighten me up on the relationship between the files armbianEnv.txt and boot.cmd, and why I should/shouldn't edit boot.cmd? I'm running the mainline kernel on a Banani Pi Pro, if this is relevant. Thanks in advance

Hi, On upgrading to 5.35 Ubuntu Xenia default 3.4.113 I am unable to get DVI video working, I am presented with a pink screen. Monitor is a 1280x1024 dvi connected via HDMI-DVI converter cable. I am configuring this with h3disp -m 1280x1024 -d. I have rolled back to a 5.30 image and everything works as it should. Possibly a bug? How can I upgrade everything in the distro without breaking the video again? Thanks.

I recently received my kit, which consists of the Neo, heatsink, and acrylic shell. Installed Debian_jessie_default.7z with Etcher onto a Kingston SDCIT/8GBSP. PCB 1.3+ uses a more sophisticated voltage regulator than earlier revisions... The temperature is excellent so far (only 40c). I can run some more tests if someone provides instructions. So these boards do not in fact require a heavy copper plane for heat dissipation. I did use a superior heat pad rather than the one that is provided with the heatsink kit. Ideally, you would want something like a 4mm or so copper shim with good quality thermal paste applied to bo…

I am trying to use an Iono Pi Board from SFERA Labs on an OrangePI PC Plus. https://www.sferalabs.cc/product/iono-pi-board/ I was able to get i2C working so that I could connect to some devices like a temp sensor and accelerometer. Hi, I understand that powering the Orange Pi Zero through the USB OTG interface is convenient but suboptimal due to low power, especially if you have other devices attached to the board. I've seen recommendations that powering the board directly via the 5V and GND on the GPIO from a clean and sufficiently powerful power supply is preferable. I know in theory what needs to be done but I don't know how to physically connect to the board. The GPIO is a 2x13 row of conductive holes in the board. (Is there a name for this sort of thing, by the way?) Say I have two wires, 5V and GND. How do I physically attach a wire to one a hole? Do I need to …

Hi all, I'm trying to access the GPIO from python context and I absolutely need to do it in a rootless way. Do I need to configure and compile a kernel by myself? please help me, thank you

Hi, do you remember my issue with 2 opi1? Well, today I burned again an armbian image with etcher and connect either of the two opi one, to a usb-ttl converter (an arduino). ok, when I put the power on the result is what you see in the attach... the two freeze on DRAM: always. the power is a xiaomi power adapter 5v2a (double checked with a multimeter) and a handmade cable (checked with the multimeter too, 4.8v/4,9v always) so...can I finally tell that my two board are faulty? or there is something I could do? thank you in advance

Hi, I've been playing around with a OPi Win+ which is aint bad but full support seems a while off ... I'm looking for a quad core, 2G, good wifi with external antenna and this seems to fit the requirements. I dont care too much about hdmi but if it works all the better. I was just wondering what current owners thought of it. Can the internal wifi do AP mode and will it do dual modes ... hostapd-8188 will create wlan0 & wlan1 so that you both connect to an AP and be an AP. Google doesnt show much about 8189ETV Given that the armbian download shows it with a legacy kernel but stable I expect that everything 'works' ... …

wanted to make a system install to USB pendrive, but aborted it. Now it wont boot at all , but i managed to check out what may be the problem with the help of uart and the following came out: Gave up waiting for root device. Common problems: - Boot args (cat /proc/cmdline) - Check rootdelay= (did the system wait long enough?) - Check root= (did the system wait for the right device?) - Missing modules (cat /proc/modules; ls /dev) ALERT! Hey everyone, I wrote a guide a while back on setting up Armbian on the Orange Pi Zero, with key-based ssh access enabled. Thought I'd share it with this forum I'd love feedback, questions and also definitely send pull requests if you have any edits or changes to propose!

I'm looking to add two ENC28J60 Ethernet interfaces to my OPI, does it have two SPI interfaces available? From my reading, it appears the onboard NAND flash takes up one SPI interface, but I cannot find any information on whether there is 1 or 2 other SPI interfaces available?

Hi, my problem is that I can't figure out why doesn't wifi access point doesn't show up, after setting up neither with Config utility from the desktop, neither manually from the website documentations help. What am I missing here? First, the Config utility that I'm using it asks me to reboot every time I set it up successfully, but after reboot it doesn't appear anywhere, neither my smartphone won't find the ARMBIAN connection. Second, I tried the way it is documented on the websites help section on how to set up an access point. I've changed the required files with nano, copied and nothing. I haven't used wired internet con…

Hi all, I am trying get wifi working on Nanopi neo air with the Mainline kernel v4.12.12. I enabled brcmfmac driver in the kernel. Downloaded the corresponding firmware(brcmfmac43430-sdio.bin) for AP6212 from : https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git/plain/brcm. I have applied patch to the device tree to enable wifi (https://www.spinics.net/lists/arm-kernel/msg563666.html) I couldn't get the firmware loaded properly. Here's the log. [ 85.922929] brcmfmac: brcmf_attach Enter [ 85.922967] brcmfmac: brcmf_proto_attach Enter [ 85.922990] brcmfmac: brcmf_fweh_register event handler registered for PSM_WA…
