I'd like to install the latest Armbian for Orange Pi PC, but want to remove GUI / desktop packages and use CLI only. I can't find any docs on how to create a tailored distro without GUI (and associated) packages. So I guess an alternative is to install a standard legacy distro, then trim out the GUI (and likely other) packages as desired. Any suggestions or documentation? Thx.

Hi all, Today my second OPi arrived, a +2E. I already have an OPi PC which is working like a charm. So I ordered a +2E as well. I have an older monitor (Dell 2007WFP) with DVI connector and a native resolution of 1680x1050. From previous experience from the OPi PC, I know that I had to run the 'h3disp' tool to set up this resolution and to make it work via an HDMI-DVI cable. So I connected my new +2E through a normal HDMI cable to my 1080p TV, installed Armbian (Jessie desktop, with legacy kernel), updated to the latest release through 'apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade' and after a reboot ran 'h3disp -m 36 -d', just as I had with the OPi PC. After r…

I use two Orange pi PC for music studio use with Jack, Ardour and several midi software to use with midi surface controls and keyboards. Everything works great with an external USB DAC but when I try to use the on board DAC through the HDMI output the sound comes out slowed down to maybe a third of the speed making everything sound like it's in slow motion. Any help to fix this would really be appreciated.

The translation was done by Google Hello friends, my hardware: Orangepi pc plus dac-pcm5102mk-i2s. 3.5 "touch display So far I have the system in eMMC (ARMBIAN 5.60 stable Ubuntu 16.04.5 LTS 3.4.113-sun8i) and optionally on 16GB uSD card (ARMBIAN Debian GNU / Linux 8 (jessie) 3.4.113-sun8i). In both cases, an xfce desktop is installed. The setup of the DAC I have after the tutorial I2S on Orange Pi H3 by Da Alchemist, February 29, 2016 in both Debian 8 and Ubuntu 16.04. Works well. I installed the display after the hints from How to use Touchscreen + LCD on H3 devices by kutysam, July 31, 2017. It claps with the display of the desktop, but the touch …

Just a FYI Previously using nmtui-connect and adding a Wifi Config would survive across reboots. With nightly: Armbian_5.26.170226_Orangepipcplus_Ubuntu_xenial_dev_4.10.0 I find that I must repeatedly use nmtui-connect and even then it creates additional NM connection profiles # nmcli c NAME UUID TYPE DEVICE MyWifi 60caede4-0d67-4e72-9696-6e9f76f9ec0a 802-11-wireless -- MyWifi 1 a4f778ff-e8b9-431c-ad70-98d3e32252bc 802-11-wireless -- No other OS mods (such as /etc/network/interfaces) were made After nand-sata-install only nmtui-connect was utilized

Good day! I connect the real time clock, made according to the instructions: RTC time is set I set the wrong time in the RTC, reboot. I look at the time in the system clock - at first not the right one, from the RTC, then they are synchronized and it becomes the right one. But in RTC, the new correct time is not recorded. What am I doing wrong? Or what else needs to be done?

Hi when I use the orangepi PC plus TRRS audio output (analog), I have some glitches which are linked to the video mouvment. I've tested the connection between ground and video and it seems that on the left ground pin there is a natural link with video output (50 ohms), is this normal? my cable is a 4 pole TRRS. I even tested audio with cable directly plug on soldering but same result. How could I get a clean audio output? note that the hdmi audio output is clean. and my speaker system is clean if I plug it on a MP3 player with an audio jack. I use retrorangepi 4.2 which is based upon Armbian v5.54 (default legacy kernel)

Hi, Today I encountered for the second time a strange behavior on my Orange Pi PC running Armbian 5.38 stable Debian GNU/Linux 9 (stretch) 4.14.18-sunxi and decided to ask here. The OPI PC is working properly for a few weeks (one to three, typically) and suddenly I cannot access it via SSH or UART anymore. When trying to connect with SSH, the connection hangs after entering the password and after a while the connection timeouts. Tried SSHing from regular Linux shell and from PuTTY under Windows. I regularly use a key to log in the Opi PC, but it doesn't work, too. Trying to connect with the UART (via minicom in Linux or PuTTY in Windows) …

hi, I have an OPI pc with armbian (legacy kernel), plan to set it as NAS. due to it has 4 USB ports without internal hub, so I decide to connect 3 USB HDD to it, and create a LVM+RAID5. but unfortunately, OPI pc can only recognize 2 USB HDD(any 2 of these 3 USB hdd), at any USB ports, the 3rd USB HDD can be found by lsusb but stops at "spinning up...." no /dev/sdc. but if I insert an USB disk, (with 2 USB HDD already inserted), it can be recognized and /dev/sdc is created. I guess whether there is a power supply issue. can this be fixed by USB HDD with additional power supply? is that right?

I need to run btrfs for a headless web server on an Opi PC. The armbian 3.4 kernel btrfs is too green to be used. I was able to install the 4.7.3 kernel (and remove the 3.4.x) using apt. I got btrfs and support for some USB devices, but lost HDMI and 3 cpu cores. Is there a better option I could try? This board seems to be running like a champ with just one core but I would like to have it fire on all 4 and have at least some video output if I wanted to. Is it ok to ask for recomends as to what board I might better choose? I require a modern Ubuntu/kernel, decent usb, decent network (gigabit if possible), and low cost. They will be used for personal cloud an…

As the title says, my OpiPC don't want to boot. It starts to boot, with UART console I can see u-boot loading and doing its job, but just when it would start the kernel the console gets borked with non-ascii characters. After this, the board just hangs there. I've tested with 3 different images (written out by Etcher), checked the images checksum and checked the SDcard with F3. This setup worked fine a month ago, when I last had the time to play with it. Since than, the board was just lying on my desk, turned off.

I have been running Armbian_5.14_Orangepipc_Ubuntu_xenial_3.4.112 that has been upgraded to the 4.7.3 kernel via apt. Yesterday I allowed it to update to 4.8.3 and it won't boot anymore. Any ideas? Hi, Just did a fresh 5.49 build, OPi PC, legacy, Ubuntu console/server. Ethernet network is not working (out of the box) It does not get an IPv4 address automatically Tried to and got it enabled via nmtui, it was showing an 'eth0' as activated and a 'Wired connection 1' as deactivated. I activated the wired connection1, it automatically removed the eth0 from the list and then it has taken an IP address. Did a reboot, though after reboot it was again not working, it did not retained settings. NMTUI show again eth0 as activated and 'wired connection' as deactivated. Hi everyone. I almost gave up while reading tons of forums:( I bought CO2 sensor MH-Z19 from aliexpress. As I figured out this sensor used by RPi without any problems. Manual I found here: https://www.circuits.dk/testing-mh-z19-ndir-co2-sensor-module/ I connected module as mentioned: Vin - 2 pin gpio GND - 9 pin Tx - 13 pin Rx - 11 pin Module was blinking when I powered on my OPi, but when I tried to send data to UART nothing happened. I got timeout. I tried to connect Tx and Rx (11 and 13 pin) by cable, then sent bytes and immediatley got answer, UART work, as I understood. I checked uart in armbian-config menu and all (…

Hey all, I just bought an Orange Pi PC Plus and I intend to use it as an access point for multiple networks. According to https://renaudcerrato.github.io/2016/10/01/virtual-ssid-hostapd/ I used "iw list" to check if the wifi card supports multiple SSIDs. And it looks like it isn't. iw list displays "interface combinations are not supported" Is that just a driver/kernel issue or does the card really don't support multiple SSIDs? Cheers, luphi

Hello, Wish a good health everyone nowadays! I'm using Orange Pi PC Plus with small aluminium heatsink running Armbian Buster (mainline kernel 5.4.y). SD Card is Samsung EVO Plus 32gb. The CPU governor was set to 480 to 1200, conservative. The system are fresh, just after install. After ~5 minutes of idle uptime temperature comes to 85 and up. Is that heatsink are not good enough? And the second issue I've faced - too quiet sound output from AV-out. The most quiet is Chromium, it is nasty quiet. Sound from local video files in mpv player are bit(2 times) louder both from mp4 and webm, also mp3. Have not tested HDMI(because my…

I ordered OPI PC+ as a testing device for a potential battery/solar powered project (using OPI Lite/One later on) and while testing the built-in WiFi on OPI PC+, it seems it's not possible to power it off once enabled, or perhaps I'm doing something wrong. If the wlan0 entry in /etc/network/interfaces is commented out, the idle current is roughly 210 mA, and after issuing sudo poweroff, it drops to near zero. With wlan0 enabled, the idle current is roughly 310 mA, but after powering off, it drops to about 100 mA and stays that way until disconnected from DC. Attempting to do sudo ifconfig wlan0 down does not seem to change anything (wireless goes down, but the idle cu…

No matter what I do, when I use an Armbian image built with compile.sh I get a blank orange screen on the OPi Plus 2. The downloadable pre-built image from Armbian for the board works fine. Wanting to debug this, I have an Adafruit UART serial cable adapter, known functioning and working. If I attach this to the UART pins on the small header near the power socket I get no output (and I have swapped RX and TX to no avail). How does one enable this UART? Am I using a wrong approach? I have console=both in armbianEnv.txt.

Env is ARMBIAN 5.31 stable Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS 3.4.113-sun8i When I run Kismet on this system (which creates a new interface in Monitor mode - wlan0mon), the original WiFi interface loses any connections, and will no longer function properly. Is this a expected behavior? Is there any way to get both monitor and normal mode to co-exist? I've looked around and don't see any obvious driver updates that would address this. Any suggestions (beyond adding a second WiFi adapter)?

I am new to OPi+2E & Armbian combo. When booted up, all outgoing traffic is fine (though speed is very slow) but no incoming traffic gets successful, e.g. SSH and Ping. I tried DHCP and Static IPs. I believe there is no firewall running. I connected to WiFi through armbian-config and WiFi also connected but no incoming on either interface. If I disconnect LAN cable while WiFi is still connected, incoming traffic works on WiFi. As soon as I connect LAN cable again, incoming stops working on both interfaces. Same behaviour on Raspbian and Armbian. Is there some firmware I need to update? Help will be appreciated.

Can you power an Orange Pi Zero or Orange Pi One from the 26/40 pin header ? I am pretty sure the answer is yes as the OPI Zero expansion board has a power jack. But is there any information regarding how to do this ? Do you feed the +5v or the +3.3v Is it the same for all of the RPI compatible headers ?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone was having issues with the ethernet port using the legacy kernel ? It does seem to kind of work ... it will get DHCP from the router and configure the routing tables etc but after that it goes wonky. When I do a ping test from the router I get "50/50 transmitted, 15/50 received, 70% loss". A ping test from the opi-win to the router gets a similar result. If I try a ping/ssh from a PC connected to the router I get a 95% packet loss Everything else seems to work fine ... HDMI, USB, WiFi (AP/STA modes) which is really, really nice. Thanks TB

So I have a weird problem that I haven't seen yet, so forgive me if its already been answered. But for some reason mainline kernels (bionic and stretch) both bootloop at the same place. Seen below: The board boots perfectly fine on legacy kernel though. I'm using decent quality Samsung SD cards, and I've tried every combination of usb cable/powerbrick as well as the barrel jack so I'm not sure what the snag is.

Hello again, I downloaded the latest Orange Pi Win Ubuntu server – legacy kernel and installed it. It works fine, but when I connect from my win10 notebook via ssh with “putty” or “Windows power shell” the connections stops after the input of the right password. If the Password is wrong i have to re type it. Service ssh status: pam_unix(sshd:sessions): session opened for user root (uid=0) So it looks like the ssh on my “OPI win” works, but on putty I have only a blinking cursor. When I connect ssh via my android phone it works, without problems. Had anyone ells this problem? greeting…

Dear Armbian Friends, My temperature sensor is not detected by board. Can somebody give me some advice what should I chceck / change / test now? Cheers! Lucas I tried: - another sample of DHT11 - changed cables to different ones - changed - both tested sensors were connected with 4.7k resistor between positive and data cable - tried different system versions like bionic, stretch and now jessie - tried to load modules via /etc/modules-load.d/modules.conf g_serial w1-sunxi w1-gpio w1-therm - or with /boot/armbianEnv.txt (disabling loading with modules.conf) wverbosity=1 logo=disabled co…

Dear Armbian friends, I have question about add DS18B20 temp sensor at RPi-Monitor (web based interface). Can somebody paste working config of this sensor? On internet I found many tutorials but with DHT sensors. On this page (Xavier is an author of RPi-Monitor I think) is described DS18B20 but in status "Working in progress". I tried this but without luck. https://xavierberger.github.io/RPi-Monitor-docs/32_sensors.html?highlight=ds18b20 Cheers, Lucas

Is anyone else having issues getting incoming ssh to work with their OPI zero? I've tried both: Armbian_5.24_Orangepizero_Debian_jessie_3.4.113.img and Armbian_5.24_Orangepizero_Ubuntu_xenial_3.4.113.img In both cases I was able to get a WiFi connection, and am able to get out to the internet to download new packages (apt-get). However, I can't seem to get incoming ssh or ping to work. It's as if the device is invisible.

Hi Everyone. I have an Orange Pi One and I can use the micro USB (otg) port as a standard USB port - I can plug in a memory stick or USB speakers and it works fine. Is it possible to have the same functioniality with the OPI Zero? I tried and it does not work - I am powering the board through the GPIO header. Even if I plug in USB speakers that have an LED indication - no LED lights, so I guess no power. I looked at the fex file from the OPI One and could not see the difference there in the OPI Zero. I know it is in beta, so I do not expect it straight away, but it would be good to know if it is possible Thanks for any help. J

Orange Pi Zero - SPI1 - SPI_MOSI - Seems "weak" SPI_SCLK is Peak-to-Peak 3.3v (no problem) SPI_MOSI is Peak-to-Peak 165mv (whoa strange! hooked up to the o-scope) I suspect that MOSI is "dead" in my config since the waveform matches SPI_SCLK almost exactly, so perhaps it's crosstalk or something of that sort. I think my FEX is good. Anybody else with experience? Does anyone else experience this problem? root@orangepizero:/dev# ls -al spi* crw------- 1 root root 153, 0 Jan 28 12:17 spidev0.0 crw------- 1 root root 153, 1 Jan 28 12:17 spidev1.0 [spi0] spi_used = 1 spi_cs_bitmap = 1 spi_mosi = port:PC00<3><…

Hi - I have been using Armbian buster stable on Orange Pi Zero for the past 12 months, starting with 5.92 last August and going up to 20.05.7 today. In all of these versions, clock speeds above 1.008GHz are unavailable, despite the board supporting 1.104GHz, 1.2GHz, 1.296GHz and 1.368GHz. They are not listed in armbian-config, cpufreq-set is unable to set them, and dmesg includes lines like: [ 10.030991] core: _opp_supported_by_regulators: OPP minuV: 1320000 maxuV: 1320000, not supported by regulator [ 10.031017] cpu cpu0: _opp_add: OPP not supported by regulators (1104000000) [ 10.031305] core: _opp_supported_by_regulators: OPP minuV: 1320000 maxuV:…

I had to freeze my device on Kernel 6.1.92 & Bullseye to remain operational. Now trying to update/upgrade to Kernel 6.6.nn I run into following probs: 1) Using Armbian-config defreeze and subsequently switch to kernel 6.6.nn works OK 4me, but subsequent apt-get update/upgrade throws me back to kernel 6.1.104. Armbian-config has changed significantly w/ No other Kernel available. 2) Using Armbian-config defreeze, only and going directly to apt-get update/upgrade throws me back to kernel 6.1.104 as well and from Bullseye back to Buster! Its a mess! Will this eventually be corrected and when? RGDS

Hi, I trying to use UART 1 & UART 2 at OPi Zero 2 Plus with no success with armbian stable and ubuntu server. I test all combinations, of fex settings, turn off everything except required uarts, set uart_type = 2 and etc, and it did not connect. UART0 and UART3 works fine, but I need cts-rts lines from uart2 for hi speed (it's uart_type = 4, but I would like to start regular uart first). tested with picocom, ft232 & pl2303 I use 8 & 10 pins for uart 1 and 11&13 for uart2 as described at http://linux-sunxi.org/Orange_Pi_Zero Is it correct pins? Hi everyone, What I want to do is to use a DS18B20 through 1-Wire to read temperature on an OPi Zero. The sensor seems to be detected by the board (I see the file under /sys/bus/w1/devices/28-something), and then it disappears randomly after a reboot or a power cycle. (file goes away and obviously I can't get any readings). Then it starts working randomly again after an indefinite amount of reboots. I'm having this problem for a while now, and it's driving me absolutely crazy. This one here on the picture is the sensor I'm using. I have attached a 4.7K Ohm resistor between the VCC and Digital cables, and attache…

I want to use an OPI zero (armbian 5.31) to log data from a smart meter to influxdb. Everything works, but after 5 hrs i cant ssh into the pi - also, no data is written to the db. The pi has heatsinks and the temperature is around 53°C. Now i tried it without the logging and after 5 hrs, the pi was again not reachable (i dont know, if it crashed or only the connection went down). Last try was with a pi lite which showed the same behavior. What could be the problem?

Hi, I am trying to make the OPI Zero boot with the help of the onboard SPI with the goal to boot from an usb drive and not from the sdcard. What steps should be executed. I only managed to get the Xenial image to work with my 512Mb board... so that is what I want to use. I assume... I need to make u-boot work with the sdcard... move the whole thing to the usb drive (with the u-boot) and than populate somehow the SPI with the image of an SPL, which would get it up through the u-boot on the usb. So I would need some in depth guidance (best would be some example commands to be used), what steps and tools should be executed to make it work. Thanks in advance &…

I've been using an OrangePi Zero hw rev. 1.5 for a few months with no issues, using the Stretch mainline image (4.x kernel). Suddenly the filesystem became read-only. I thought it was a SD card issue so I burned a fresh armbian to a new card. But the device does not show up in the DHCP pool with an allocated IP. Being withought a HDMI connector, an OPi Zero must be accessed via SSH. I've tried all versions, mainline and legacy. Only with Jessie legacy image, it gets an IP from the DHCP pool just on the very first boot. After that, it does not show up. I've tried the images provided by OrangePI and their Ubuntu and Raspbian images work. They have Ub…

Hello every one, My first post here i'll try to be clear but english is not my mother langage. I bought a couple of opi zero with usb expansion board and a case. I needed small devices able to run a linux daemon and control a bluetooth LE device. They are used as antennas in a bluetooth mesh network. The orange pi zero seemed to be a good choice. I first installed the opizero with armbian 5.24 debian version. Unfortunately I was unable to use bluepy lib. It was the same with the xenial version. Another user of the bluetooth advertisement plugin told me to use last firmware (5.25) and upgrade to 4.x kernel. I was then able to use bluepy lib. I moved the opi zeros …

Hello fellas, I would like to borrow your experience to compete with my task which counts (and measures) pulses on GPIO with Orange Pi zero. Currently, my simple solution is to register a callback to a specific edge and increment a global variable. I would like to catch a few hundreds of pulses in one burst which have in a 5-100 us length. However, even the number of counted pulses is not okay. Some of them are missed sometimes, which leads to an unreliable solution. I used different libs and all of them fall into the same issue. I tried the following libs: * ArmbianIO (C) * ArmbianIO (Python: origina…

Connected my USB hub with keyboard and mouse connected. Disconnected my OPi One (RetrOrangePi gaming computer) from its HDMI connection and connected it to my Zero H3 and powered it up. Hello, is the new Orange pi Zero LTS supported by Armbian? It's the same chip and same stuff but they claim they have reduced the power consumption and lower the board’s temperature. Hi, After running the default image with legacy kernel for a few weeks, I am now trying the run a fresh SD card with the latest build of the mainline image. However, the MAC address of my device appears to be changing after each reboot - and I am running about of ideas to fix this issue. What I've tried so far: - Edit script.bin & add MAC address in the [dynamic] section - Edit armbianEnv.txt - Define an address in /etc/network/interfaces So far, I have not been able to solve the problem. Your help is much appreciated. Any suggestions on possible fixes for the issue?

Hi! Upgrading to the mainline kernel removes /dev/snd/seq, which is needed for MIDI applications. Synthesizers are my main interest in using these boards, so that is a big loss. Since the module is enabled in the legacy kernel, perhaps this is unintentional and could be added to the mainline kernel? Thank you for all your work. Regards, brkl

Hello, I am using OPi Zero with Armbian. From computer (Win or Ubuntu) or from other device with Android I am sending data to OPiZero device via LAN (many MBs/s). Hello everyone, I know this is a well known problem of the OPi Zero, but in regarding to "solutions": h3consumption works only with the legacy kernel because of the use of Fex Is there a way to tweak the things h3consumption did in the mainline version? USB audio is not usable with 4.x dev kernels on OPI Zero board. I don't see any errors, but audio goes with scratchs. Other usb devises works fine with 4.x dev. USB audio works well with 3.x stable kernel.
