  3. Started by john.glasson,

I would like to upgarde my Cubietruck headless server from Legacy to Vanilla. With Legacy if I boot from NAND I can get my hard disc to spin down. But with SD card/sda root file system (as required by Vanilla) I can't get my disc to stop: if I issue 'hdparm -Y /dev/sda' it spins up again after a short interval. I have done everything I can think of to ensure that rsyslog is not writing to disc. Syslog shows frequent ata error messages that seem to coincide with the disc re-starting. Error msg: kernel: [ 104.477850] ata1.00: exception Emask 0x0 SAct 0x200 SErr 0x0 action 0x6 I have tried this on two different Cubieboards with different makes of hard…

  4. Hi, I'm trying to install Armbian 5.20 vanilla kernel to eMMC on my Opi PC+. After nand-sata-install finishes I shutdown the Opi PC+ and power it back on. At least, I enable the power, I don't see anything happening in minicom on my pc. Only when powering it with a microsd in the slot (with armbian) will the uboot show in minicom on my pc. Doing a nand-sata-install with 5.14 legacy worked. What am I doing wrong (especially seeing nothing after a reboot with my ttl-to-usb connected is a bit strange for this noob)?

  5. Hi, i am new here and like to say hello. On my new cubietruck I have one after another tried to install and use wheezy and jessie with legacy and vanilla kernels. With the legacy versions i failed because there seemed to be no video-output on VGA from the kernel. The boot-process seemed to be stopped after Starting Kernel. Then i found that it was visible on HDMI but not on VGA. Because I have only VGA-Screen on my desk i went on with vanilla jessie. But on the download-page there is the note "No audio or accelarated video". What does it mean in detail? I installed mplayer but in fact there is no sound at the jack. Isn't therefore any driver available? Which …

I'm not sure if this is off-topic, but I'd like to ask the forum about a problem. My goal is to run RPi-Cam-Web-Interface (http://elinux.org/RPi-Cam-Web-Interface). I have 5.20 Jessie server 3.4.112 that has been updated/upgraded on an Orange Pi One with a gc2035 cam on an expansion board from aliexpress. As a first step I got the cam working. There are some threads in this forum that made that easy. I then installed github.com/roberttidey/userland since it includes raspimjpeg - a key element in the RPi-Cam-Web-Interface toolchain. But when I run raspimjeg I get the error * failed to open vchiq instance Google has solutions that involve permissions…

  9. Hi, I'm trying to use hardware acceleration on my OrangePi PC+ (H3) board, and when I try to compile v4l2-request, it complains for undefined constants. These constants are supposed to be declared in /usr/include/linux/videodev2.h, but looks like a very old version of this file is distributed in the latests Armbian images for my board. Some missing headers: V4L2_PIX_FMT_MPEG2_SLICE, V4L2_PIX_FMT_SUNXI_TILED_NV12 Looks like these #define have been introduced more than two years ago in the mainline kernel : https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blame/d5beb3140f91b1c8a3d41b14d729aefa4dcc58bc/include/uapi/linux/videodev2.h#L698 Even more weird: a later …

  12. Hi, after I made a software-update for my Cubitruck last week, my VGA monitor shows text only up to "starting kernel", then turns black. HDMI still works. I tried to reinstall the newest versions of both Ubuntu Bionic and Debian Stretch, both show this problem. The old VGA monitor is used only for maintenance work on my home server and off most of the time, it would be a shame if I had to buy a new HDMI monitor for this purpose. What is going on? Thanks Engelbert

  13. I have been experimenting with trying to get video acceleration working on the A83T. I can see from /proc/device-tree/soc/... that there is already a video-engine node within the current A83T device tree. It appears to be applied as one of the megous patches ARM-dts-sun8i-a83t-Add-cedrus-video-codec-support-to-A83T-untes.patch. Admittedly this is noted as being untested. In my initially created build via the build framework, Cedrus was not present at all among the list of loaded modules. I addressed this by creating an entry in the Cedrus compatibility table for the sun8i-a83t-video engine drv-sun8i-a83t-cedrus-add-variant.patch It now appears to l…

I'm getting stuck trying to compile the cedar_ve kernel driver from https://github.com/uboborov/sunxi-cedar-mainline I have downloaded the kernel source using armbian-config and then built the sunxi-cedar-mainline kernel driver. However, I fail to load the driver due to version magic: When trying to force the load: But no dmesg message about magic check failure.

  18. Is there any way to get a video player to display subtitles on an H3 board? I've tried VLC and SMPlayer, but neither are able to do so (the problem seems to be that the video output is overlayed *over* the system display rather than mixed with it on a per-pixel basis, so while the subtitles are being displayed by the player, they simply aren't visible). Is there any adjustment/update/other player I can use to fix this problem? Orange Pi Plus 2 I have armbian 5.05 installed, so not sure if there are any updates that might help?

Hey kids, it is me, again! So, this time I found out (well, you maybe knew it before and I am dumbing around again) that voltage control does not work on Banana Pi (at least) mainline kernel. Well, if I am supposed to change it in linux-mainline/arch/arm/boot/dts/sun7i-a20.dtsi. I tried to reach 1248000kHz, which is, of course, unstable. So I was adding and adding voltage, until I was too afraid to continue (1650000mV ). But BananaPi was unstable the same way (freez after few minutes of FTP transfer), no more (bad charger) or no less (would still need more voltage). So after few hours of re-compiling source and listening wonderful music I tried this: 1248000(kHz)…

Hi, I used to run a RPi3 as a VPN and DNS-Server (PiHole) and it worked like a charm. Since the RPI3 is a bit oversized for this work I bought a NanoPi Neo 512MB and installed armbian Ubuntu 4.9.x, but I have some issues with it: - eth0 is only connected by 100/half duplex. I can set it manually to full duplex with autoneg off, but after a few secondes it falls back to 10(!) half duplex. with autoneg on it comes back to 100 half duplex (the amber led is off; cable and switch are ok) - the MAC-Adress is changing every reboot. I have to fix it manually - I can set up Pihole to use the Nanopi as a DNS-Server and it works well in the LAN, until I connect over openVP…

First off, I'd like to thank the maintainers for all the work you've put into Armbian. It's really been a pleasure to use. I'm currently using an OrangePI 2+as a kiosk computer, and I'm wondering if there might be some other way to wake it from sleep other than pressing the power button. Would it be possible for it to wake from sleep if one of the GPIO pins were pulled high, for instance? TIA, -Jim

  24. Hi, I have found a problem when I reboot my NanoPi Neo, related to WiFi + BL device which is plugged in USB 2.0 port. The WiFi device is a Realtek 8821cu and system loads driver correctly when I do a cold boot or if I hot-plug it, but it fails in a warm boot. After doing many tests, I realized that if I plug the WiFI dongle in a non-powered USB 2.0 hub and I connect this latter to the NanoPi Neo's USB 2.0 port, then it also works. I don't have anymore idea to solve it. The 8821cu driver fails because WiFi device shows itself like powered down.

  27. Dear maintainers, I have my sensors configured to reboot every night via a user cronjob (0 0 * * * /sbin/reboot), 14 sensors do this without a problem. I've fixed the nanopi neo+2 reboot from NAND some months ago (by re-using friendlyarm first stage u-boot). I just stumbled upon a failed reboot with one of my nanopi neo+2 nodes, after two successful reboots. Looking at the /var/log.hdd/syslog, it got stuck in the shutdown procedure when the watchdog reported a failure. The /var/log.hdd/syslog.1 extracts below show the start of the watchdog, and the stop of the watchdog and its failure. After the failure the system doesn't come up anymore, it needed a pow…

I have an Orange Pi Zero that had an uptime of well over a year monitoring the output of some solar panels and the state of charge of a battery. It then switches a couple of relays in response to these measurements. It has been really reliable for 2 years, never crashing or rebooting until now. At the beginning of September it started to stop working, it has no monitor or keyboard, only a cat5 cable, so when I say stop working, I mean it stops logging to the nfs drive, stops switching the relays, stops responding to pings and any ssh sessions timeout. It does this every few days, around 6:30 am, and I then have to power cycle it to get it to work a…

  40. I'm not sure I even want BakeBit. I'm trying to use the GPIO in my NanoPi Neo2. Specifically I want to read a digital I/O pin on/off state. And if possible I'd like to read an analog voltage from the H5's built in ADC. Now that I've looked deeper into BakeBit, it seems like the entire purpose of BakeBit is to do GPIO with an Arduino, and read the information remotely on a RbPi/NanoPi or whatever ON the Arduino's GPIO pins. If that is really what BakeBit is, then BakeBit doesn't interest me. The H5 already has GPIO and an ADC. We just need to get that working. For interest's sake, here is the progress I made with BakeBit. ADC Python example in Bakebit h…

  43. After along time I downloaded a new armbian image, after doing apt update/upgrade for the last year or so. I was quite surprised to see that the pcduino3nano is now deprecated, while other A20 boards are still supported. What was the exact reason that the pcduino3nano was dropped from support? If I keep using the deprecated OS, can I fully use apt update/upgrade for all user stuff? What would happen to all kernel and u-boot update packages? Is the latest armbian for the pcduino3nano automatically disabling those updates, or do I need to do something manually? *should* I block kernel & u-boot updates? thanks, Michale Jasson

I've got a bunch of these boards where I'd like to use the built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capability in a small form factor for a project. I don't need video or audio or other functionality. 46. I wanted to try 3.4 to see if I could build FFmpeg with the legacy Kernel. When I run any of the three (Trusty, Jessie, Wheezy) as soon as the script says starting Kernel, I get a few blue and green noise lines on the screen and then the screen disappears. I can use SSH and.the system is booting up and running. The one thing that I noticed is that when I log on, the name of the machine is LIME instead of MICRO. I'm running an Olimex Olinuxino Micro. Is there a config file that I need to tweek, or is the Kernel setup for a LIME? thanks MikeC

Hello! I'm trying to make image for olinuxino lime A10. Prebuild image does not have /dev/uinput and /dev/hidraw for my touchscreen, and built without CONFIG_DRM_KMS_HELPER, so i can't replace broken EDID for my HDMI display. A month ago i succesfully build ubuntu image with uinput and hidraw support. But now - i need to rebuild it again, but kernel compilation fails with this error: LD drivers/media/usb/built-in.o LD drivers/media/built-in.o make: *** [drivers] Error 2 [ error ] Kernel was not built [ @host ] And I don't know where to find error description. The last error was missing libssl-dev. Regards.

  52. Hi all, everytime I turn on my Nano Pi it will sync the clock using NTP. When network is not enabled it will rewind the time to something that I still can't comprehend. I found lots of topics about people talking about how to add a RTC to the system, but none talking about the current RTC that is recognized by the kernel. Currently when the system is powered off and on (10 seconds distance) without network the time will rewind between 5 and 15 minutes. I understand that this happens because there is no RTC to write the current clock and battery to keep it. But there is obviously a RTC somewhere because removing power from the device and putting it back will keep a wrong b…

  53. I want to use an ADAU1979 with an olimex A20-Micro. Needs to show up as a device in ALSA, alongside the in- built CODEC - As far as I can see, this driver is in mainline kernel but I have no idea how to configure the kernel build to include it. Obviously we need to tell the system where its i2s/SPI interface is connected etc. Unsure which kernel version (legacy or mainline) to begin with. We do need a desktop environment and the olimex 10"/7" LCD to work also... I am starting this from a position not having built a kernel or kernel modules before so If this idea is a non-starter, someone please tell me so. Thanks.

  67. Hi After reading this: "No audio driver, IR, NAND, BT, HW video, I2C and SPI untested on 4.0 or higher" i'm not sure which kernel version should i choose. Is that "no audio driver" means that there is no HDMI audio, or no any audio including jack audio? Both kernels support the "Allwinner Security System cryptographic accelerator"? As i'm using CB2 as a headless java application server, samba fileserver, dlna server and music player daemon server, i need only jack audio from these, and of course the hw cryptographic support.

  70. I hear that Orange Pi 2E has 1GB network speed and an USB3 port. In my project I paln to use an SBC as a network bridge and sniff traffic for problems. A simple network tap would otherwise be ok but they come only with 10/100Mbd speed limit. What I'd do have two ethernet ports on the Orange Pi, one regular and one via USB3. No to my question: are Orange Pi capable for this or is the advertised network/USB3 speed buggy/lacking? I have one Orange Pi PC for a file server and it has been running for weeks just fine. Raspberry Pi's are fine to (albeit still no 1GB ethernet). Raspberry Zero's have issues (mine seem to lock up after a couple of days).

But I discovered there are many Wiring libraries for this GPIO use on the BPi. Does somebody give back its knowledge to know which Wiring library is the best for those two Banana Pi boards ? - WiringBP - WiringOP - MikuPi I want to use them for reading Temperature and Humidity (DHT22) and a sonar sensor (HC-SR04). And further with a NFC rader. Sincerely thanks for your help.

I assume write speed of eMMC to be 5MB/s (ok maybe it is even faster) and Armbian on SD card is about 2.1GB, so it should take ~7 minutes to copy files, plus some more minutes to finish final touches, let's say 15 minutes together.
