Maybe this is a faq. After installing and upgrading armbian to 5.23 on A10-Lime, if I leave serial console attached and Ethernet Cable attached, booting process hangs at: Uncompressing Linux... done, booting the kernel. while if I'm using serial console alone or Ethernet Cable alone, the booting process is fine. Why ?

Greetings, all! I've got a LeMaker A20 BananaPro, on which I'm using the Armbian mainline distribution (for a more complete description of my setup, please see below). I'm using a serial console to the board; I'm not connecting anything to HDMI for display. I'm running the distribution off of a brand new 8Gig SanDisk Extreme Pro. I would like to use alsa (at least in part) in the audio stack. I'm experiencing the following: When I have no audio playing through the audio out jack, I get a loud (powerline, probably) hum on my speakers. When I start audio playback (a wav through aplay, or an mp3 through mpd, etc.) the hum disappears, and the so…

Hi. I'm using Cubietruck, and installed Ubuntu server(mainline) on it. Suddenly, I can't write to disk(SD card). Actually, yes I can. I could create, edit, or even delete files, but all the changes are gone after the Cubietruck is rebooted. The deleted files are back, and created files are gone. What should I check? My SD card is Samsung Evo 16GB, and I'm running Cubietruck for more than 2 years. I have never encountered this weird situation.

Hi all, as in title, gpio not work on latest Lime2 5.59 built from source using mainline 4.14.70 kernel and debian stretch. I can export correctly the gpios in sysfs but i cant get the right value. They always remain the same value. I've tried both pulled up and internal pulled up (active low) gpios with the same result. Also gpio buttons defined in dtc do not work. Any idea?

Hi, I am running a OrangePi One with Linux orangepione 3.4.113-sun8i #18 SMP PREEMPT Wed Jan 24 22:10:49 CET 2018 armv7l armv7l armv7l GNU/Linux DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu DISTRIB_RELEASE=16.04 DISTRIB_CODENAME=xenial DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS" And it seems that when I start the system without the hdmi cable and plug it afterwards, the HDMI is not handle correctly and my TV stays with a red screen. There is some way to configure the hdmi hot plug in this OS? I found that raspiberry pi has this option. (https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/config-txt/video.md)

I'm not sure if I should pursue this here or if I should open a ticket through Debian Bugs. A recent update now causes mpd to segfault. mpd comes from the Debain armhf repository. I'm not sure how to determine if this is a hardware issue with my board somehow or if there is an interaction with a new kernel or if it's because the package updated the binary or a library. To make sure it wasn't something weird in my configuration I moved the conf file out of the way and re-ran mpd with the same result. If it helps, I can post an strace output of the issue. James

I have updated the armbian kernel from version 20.11.3 to version 20.11.6 and eth0 only works by forcing the switch to 100FD. If I leave it on automatic, the port negotiates at 1000FD but loses most packets. Any suggestion?

Currently I receive rustc crashes after memory usage get to 3GB (1GB RAM + 2GB SWAP) when building firefox. After looking around why, I found that kernel isn't build with lpae extension. Although H3 soc supports lpae (Large Physical Address Extension), but kernel has CONFIG_ARM_LPAE flag not set and so we can't use more than 3GB of memory (1GB is reserved for kernel). (Processors that implement the ARMv7-A Large Physical Address Extension (LPAE), expand the range of accessible physical addresses from 4GB (232 bytes) to 1024GB (240 bytes) a terabyte, by translating 32-bit virtual memory addresses into 40-bit physical memory addresses.) After looking a…

Hi there, I've been "playing" around various debian images for my lime2 and http://www.igorpecovnik.com/2014/11/18/olimex-lime-debian-sd-image/ seems to be the most achieved so far. Stable and everything. The only thing I miss is the "change_display.sh" tool so that I can easily configure my board to switch between the Olimex LCD and the HDMI screen. Would it be possible to add these tools in the next image ? I understand that it requires sunxi-tools and a few other things but it looks a bit complicated for me. Thanks for the feedback. Maxime

I've been struggling for a while to get raspberry pi HAT type LCD to working. I've been working with loboris images before until recently that I've heard that armbian has cooked a new image for orangepi with newer kernel. In the description of images it is clearly indicated that the image works with small screen lcds which it seems to be true because there is no error when I want to load a notro module and it successfully loads. I've put lcd configurations in /etc/modules but I was not successful. this is the parameters I use in /etc/modules fbtft_device name=flexfb gpios=dc:22,reset:27 speed=48000000 flexfb width=320 height=240 buswidth=8 init=-1,0xCB,0x39,0x2C,0x00…

Hi All, Sorry if this has been asked before, I haven't been able to find the answer yet. I wish to configure my OrangePi's (Lite and PC+) such that they power on automatically whenever the power is restored after a power outage without needing to press the power button. I'm not sure where we could configure this as the OrangePi's don't seem to have a bios like a Desktop PC. Dave.

Hello, to all OrangePI PC enthusiasts. Well I'm in the community of those who definitely underestimated the Orange of the PI, but let me share my burden :-) for the fun of it. It started with the camera- gc2035 and vfe_v4l2 modules. Had to try a couple of images until I got it by luck I guess - after that I found out that every image I use is not capable of having a FTDI device connected to "ANY" USB Port (OK, you got me, I didn't try the microUSB and I won't). After that I tried no matter what I wanted to connect to USB it was not even recognized. Now I'm back in changing/swapping around Images until I found one that let me plug anything I …

Hello, I have a cubieboard 2 (the one with only one SD slot) and there is a version of Linaro that is bootable in the NAND memory. I created a card with Debian Jessie Server (the last one) and boot it successfully, but when I run nand-sata-install I get a "No targets available. Please check your drives" pop up. I tried downloading the Debian Wheezy and creating a card and on that one I can see the nand memory blocks, but don't have the script to install and the one that came by default only installs to SATA (not to NAND). Anything I may be doing wrong here??

Hi all, I'm new to this forum, but I frequent the LinusTechTips forum a lot, some of you may recognize it. Any way, my issue is with my Orange Pi R1. I've tried both Ubuntu Server and Debian server images and I can't seem to get either to work. I'm using a good OEM Samsung wall wart that can supply up to 2 amps, and I'm using a 32GB Sandisk microSD I pulled from a working Raspberry Pi 2. With the Ubuntu Server image I can get in on the first boot and make a new user, but once it reboots to expand the filesystem it seems like it'm outta luck. I assume the red LED flashes when the kernel is running as normal, and after the first reboot the red LED never flashes, I can'…

Using the latest FW Image https://redirect.armbian.com/orangepizero2/Bullseye_legacy the Orange Pi doesn't boot anymore or at least I'm not able to establish a ssh connection. If I use the the archived previous version the board behaves completely normal until I perform an "apt upgrade". After upgrading it also doesn't boot anymore.

Hey, I recently decided to give the 22.11 a try on my M1, but I can't get my sata SSD to be the system root and boot again. 18.04 it worked for me with the exact same setup. I used this: https://docs.armbian.com/User-Guide_Getting-Started/#how-to-install-to-emmc-nand-sata-nvme-usb went with armbian-install only option for me was boot from SD and system on sata. But after the preparation of the ssd, the reboot always runs into emergency mode with not really good hints how to solve, or what even the issue is. Any tips or hints are welcomed.

Imagewriter does not work in Win7 does not see drives. I have a Orange Pi One and using the link on this site I have downloaded Armbian. However although Suse imagewriter starts it does not see any drives to write to on my laptop and not the sdcard either. I can select Armbian but clicking copy just brings up a error. Hello, I am new to this forum and I would like to ask a question concerning Allwinner's H3 eFuse feature. Studying the chip's datasheet, I saw that there is this eFuse feature, which would be mightily handy for my to-come project using H3 or H2+ hardware (OPi Zero to be specific) as a basis in combination with Armbian (which I find fantastic btw). Is there any driver available for this feature? I couldn't find any info on the net so far. Thx a lot for your time and efforts. BR, andormaybe

Hi there, I am new to OrangePi and Linux as well and that's probably why I have faced my first problem I could not find an answer on web. I use OP Lite with the latest debian jessie. And there is the problem (or just a bug): after some time of using WiFi (and wwan) I wanted to disable it in order to reduce "excessive" power consumption. So firstly I had disabled it via "nmcli" and after a while I found out about "h3consumption" command. But recently I wanted to install (and download) but none of the above commands were able to re-enable them. Any ideas how to re-enable (besides loading new OS image) ? In addition, I noted that changind "h3consumption" is not a…

Hi Armbians, I'm running two identical Cubietrucks with Armbian Jessie systems in headless (very lean) mode without any X-Windows or the like. Both boot from 16GB SD-Cards. Now one of them, which had encountered a number of power failures, suddenly ran out of space on the SD-Card (100% usage of / ), while the other CT only shows 22%. I ran across this phenomenon, when the system failed to carry out an apt-get update at one point and important services Samba were no longer started. I then searched the root filesystem for culprits but there was nothing suspicious ... So I thought there might be a partial "destruction" of the fil…

I'm running a dockerized VDR server on the BPi, still on bananian. Every time I installed armbian, I had to discover that video playback on remote devices started to stutter. Without knowing about the details, my guess is that this is owed to the fact that the mainline kernel build does not feature hw video decoding. (Though I'm not sure whether bananian had it actually.) Unfortunately I cannot use the legacy kernel build, as docker is not supported on that platform. Is there any chance to kind of enable hw video acceleration on the mainline build? I saw some posts here and there in the forum on that topic, but none seemed really having solved it d…

Just noticed some ugly detail: 1.) the switch is active during boot, and it defaults to all ports on one VLAN. 2.) My laptop is quite agressive when it comes to DHCP, it's connected to one of the local ports of the BPI-R, so it detects immediatly that the ethernet connection goes down and up. 3.) So I end up with the cable modems external IP address on my laptop, and a BPI-R that is unreachable, ... Any idea how to turn off the network switch in the boot loader? TiA, Andreas

Yesterday my 14" Pinebook arrived so I thought I'll collect some already available information. A lot of work still has to be done to get a decent laptop experience with this hardware so this is neither a review nor a stupid Un-Review but just a preview instead. To get the idea about dimensions I added a 13" and a 15" laptop to the picture. Pinebook is wedge-shaped and thickness matches both the 2011 15" MacBook Pro and the 13" from 2015: Display size closely matches the 13" MacBook Pro (but of course pixel density / resolution don't match as well as quality: TN vs. IPS and coating -- it should be obvious if you've the 'you get what you…

I have tried a few different suggestions that I have seen online to implement wifi on Orange PC with a wifi dongle. However, none them can work reliably. OrangePi zero works but wifi speed is very slow (about 1-2Mbps). I recently tried using Raspberry Pi with wifi dongles. It is almost plug and play and very reliable. I hope there is a way to do the same on OPi. If anybody know one, please let me know. I will be happy to try it out and report back.

Hi to everyone, I'm new at armbian forum, but following the project since some month. I've been using a Beelink X2 with Armbian for some time now booting from eMMC. I ran an "apt update; apt upgrade" on the box early on 01/14/2018 and a reboot was suggested at the end. Today I downloaded the latest image Armbian_5.34.171121_BeelinkX2_Debian_stretch_next_4.13.14_desktop.img, verified it and successfully wrote the image to a 16GB microSD card. I have been using this orangepi for several years now. Hi, I am new here and searched the forums for an answer to my questions regarding the NanoPi NEO2 and NEO Plus2. Most answers I could find, but a few were left open. The NEO Plus2 is marked as WIP. Why? What do I have to expect not to work? Both boards are similarly old, from what I could find. Will the Plus2 move up to "supported" eventually or does it currently more look like the route is going towards CSC? Do common features like GPIO access, SPI, I2C ... work with current images? Do specific features where the Plus2 differs from the NEO2 like WiFi, Bluetooth, ... work? I already found out, that the second USB port should work…

I wanna start out and say I have been using Armbian for a year and it's been great. Thank you. I have built many images over the year and have only noticed the issue recently. I have noticed in the bionic builds for OpiZ+ that some base level packages are missing. The one I noticed was netplan. This is the new standard for bionic. I have not compiled a complete list of missing packages at this time. I had built this image before around 5.0-5.1 kernel release without issue. Netplan was included. Current build at 5.3 RC does not include this package. I suspect that others may be removed. Are these packages missing intentionall…

Hello, I have problems with the armbian distributions on my orange pi zero 3 because I can't even use chatgpt to activate the sound card on the expansion board that comes as an accessory for the orange pi zero 3. I'm referring to the board that has two USB outputs and an audio jack port that I think is also a video port, but I can't get sound out of that port, only sound comes out of the HDMI port. It's a real mystery since there's no problem with the other distributions, but with armbian I can't get that audio output port to work. If you can help me please, I've tried a number of things and I can't get it to work.

Hi, Looks like kernel config CONFIG_USB_STORAGE_DEBUG=y has been set in the Debian Jessie 4.0.4 build. That means, that when I have I/O to a usb-storage device, systemd-journald is consuming ~70-90% CPU time on consuming debug log lines from the kernel. Is this by purpose? How would I be able to filter or disable all this log content from the kernel to journald?

Hi! I love this Linux distribution, I have tried some months ago and had worked very well. Now, I want install armbian in a pdduino3b, I go to "downloads" select pcduino3, and I have two options: Xenial_server_vanilla and Xenial_server_legacy. I want hardware acceleration and most options of drivers and compatibility possible, so, I go for legacy option. But I realize that the two images have not a desktop environment, this is true? If yes, where can I download the full newer armbian version with legacy kernel and desktop ready? I try install xcfe over legacy image, but I have found for errors like "screen not found" and others... Regards.

Am I missing something? I don't see a good reason for this to happen. Is there a common method to fix this if it is a known issue?

Hello, guys, please help setup HDMI output to 480x320 in mainline kernel for BananaPi M2. I am using 3.5inch HDMI display, it is working fine but my current resolution is too high. All attempts to change disp_mode in armbianEnv.txt didn't help. Thanks

Hello people, I'm using Armbian 5.30 - kernel 3.4.113 on a Nanopi NEO. and I'm relatively new to this stuff, so please bear with me. I successfully managed to install an LCD screen on SPI (ILI9341) using this command: sudo modprobe fbtft_device custom name=fb_ili9341 gpios=reset:1,dc:201,led:6 speed=16000000 rotate=90 bgr=1 So far so good, but the resolution of the screen is too little and can't load anything - for example Dosbox. I would want to replicate the trick that already exists on Raspberry/Raspbian, and that is to framebuffer a higher res screen (at least 640x480) on the tiny LCD's resolution of 320x240. This is the p…

I have encoutered some difficulties on carrier detection with network-manager on ethernet port, on lime2, on default kernel, 5.38. On mii-tools and ethtools, carrier is correctly reported. The result, network-manager try to activate connection at boot even cable is not plugged. It's report drivers (sunxi_gmac) does not support carrier detection, as i found in syslog When unplugged, the connection is still active. I have a problem with my Opi z+, it is assumed that its maximum frequency is 1200 Mhz, but it does not rise from 816 Mhz. I use a Raspberry charger, of 3000 mha. I changed the governor to performance but it does not go up to 816 Mhz. I use Armbian, based on ubuntu 18.04

Hello, I've purchased a 2e recently, in order to replace a RPI3 with a more powerful device (and get graphics acceleration, be able to watch youtube videos, etc). I've tested multiple builds, and even on the legacy kernel, there is just no way to get it to work properly. The board, when it sits completely idle, is between 48 and 52°. And if I move a window on the desktop, it's all laggy and the cpu jumps to 60+° --the same with a mainlain image in fact, in headless mode... frequently the console would freeze for a couple seconds while the temperature is very high for no reason. It seems there is no hardware graphics acceleration, ever. Curr…

I'm trying to make a master image to install to some NanoPI Neo boards. I have everything running fine from micro SD card. I used armbian-config to flash from SD to the eMMC and it boot and works. Now I'm looking for a way to flash the eMMC from command line in an automatic fashion, after looking for other threads in the forum I found about command nand-sata-install but it has a GUI and no --help parameter, so I guess it is not the exact program I have to use. I tested using dd command to copy the disk, but since there is this u-boot thing I think it is not just a standard disk copy because it failed (maybe my problem). My final idea is to have a master SD …
