THE MEDIA SCRIPT IS NOW DEPRECATED, IN FAVOR OF THE OFFICIAL MULTIMEDIA FRAMEWORK. PLEASE REFER TO THIS TOPIC: And, for last, the first version of: The UN-official, UN-supported, UN-expected RK3328 MEDIA TESTING SCRIPT This is the first release of the RK3328 media testing script. The script provides a functionality similar to its RK3288/3399 equivalents, except for the OpenCL related stuff, which is not supported by the SoC. So it includes: Installing all the libraries and system configurations necessary for GPU accelerated X desktop, Chromium WebGL, full VPU video play acceleration up to 4k@60 10-bit HEVC (the maximum su…

I have Firefly RK3399 board. I ran armbian from SD card successfully the first time. After full init, I ran nand-sata-flash.sh install script, also successfully. But then I can't boot from the same SD card anymore. I always boot from the eMMC memory. I expected that boot sequence would be set on SD card first, then check eMMC.

I see the latest images for the Rock64 are marked as desktop. I am looking for a lightweight server only version. I still have an older server version that I downloaded a while ago, specifically 5.59. If I install 5.59, can I do and apt-get update/apt-get upgrade to get to the latest version? Any issues with that approach? Thanks!

I built up a NanoPC-T4 with a 240GB NVMe. I am using the supplied heat sink and the black metal case that FriendlyArm sells. While I was copying an image over I got a board failure. A reset and power cycle didn't work. The stat light no longer shows activity. Just power.. that is all. Amazon was great and replaced the board. I am in the process of backing up my NVMe. After the backup I will run an OS install and restore the image. Has anyone else ran into this ? The black metal case isn't hot enough to burn my hands.. it's just very warm to the touch,. Hi everyone, Big fan of debian based distro's. Have six Rock64's and looking for a newer kernel (4.9+) with default Ubuntu modules list. 3 have eMMC cards and 3 using the Pine64 USB->SATA adapter with SSD drives. I have powered usb hub, y cables, etc but am using USB2 without powered hub because it's reliable as is and USB3 boot with any distro power injection seems unreliable. Not too concerned about throughput. Ayufan's release bionic-minimal-rock64-0.7.11-1075-arm64.img.xz with 4.4 is very stable on these. However Ayufan's mainline kernels after 4.4 are stripped right back. I spent a couple days compiling kernels with Ayufa…

Hello, I was wondering if it is possible to disable both LEDs on this board or, at least, the green (stat) one. Also I was trying to remove wifi completely and I can do: iwconfig wlan0 txpower off ifconfig wlan0 down systemctl disable wpa_supplicant But not sure if it's possible to remove the driver from the OS and what other unnecessary software I can remove. Thank you in advance.

Hi, I'm currently woking on transmitting image data by UART connection with the NanoPi M4, but I couldn't send data from '/dev/ttyS4', which is offered as for UART connection. I used pyserial in python to use UART but no change has been detected the pin #19 by the oscilloscope. Do I have to enable the UART somehow? If I can use UART with NanoPi M4, I would say this machine is so fantastic.

Hi folks! Some problems later I just build my ethereum-node using the FriendlyARM NanoPC T4 (Reddit project Ethereum on NanoPC T4). Using it indoor the temperature climbs to 80° celsius with the passive cpu-heatspreader. So I decided to install a fan and found the specs for the 'Cooling Fan interface'. The connector is named BM03B-GHS-TBT. Where can I buy a fan (40x40mm)? I only find fans with 3-pole-molex-adapter. All I know is the name of the male connector (in german): "JST Buchsengehäuse-Kabel GH Polzahl Gesamt 3 Rastermaß: 1.25 mm GHR-03V-S".

When you do gdisk -l /dev/mmcblk1 or fdisk -l you can se that the partition table that armbian is using is MBR (dos). Is any particular reason for this? When you go to the new and improved firefly rk3399 manual page you can see it is making problem when flashing through USB-C cable and upgrade_tool v. 1.24 and v. 1.34 (GBT friendly) http://wiki.t-firefly.com/en/Firefly-RK3399/flashing-notes.html .

Hi All, Below command works well on my other boards(Intel with Fedora and Ubuntu) $ compton -b --backend xrender This command make windows background transparent so it doesn't hide lower window completely. I made a custom Plex Media Player build that leverages the decent performance we get with the fbdev/dri driver. I tested Rockchip MPP gstreamer plugin. The Rockchip Hardware VPU is very basic, it breaks with mkv playback, so I decided to use ffmpeg software decoding since it's extremely robust. Also 1080p playback through DRI isn't too shabby!. If you want 4k video then you need to contact Rockchip. They seem to be overwhelmed or not interested in bringing 4k support to Linux. I built a .deb package that will install plexmediaplayer to /usr/local. No worries about installing to somewhere and clobbering an official library or package. Official Armbian depen…

I am amazed My NanoPi M4 2gb plays Assaultcube and Torcs so well for a $85 computer it is a great achievement. But I have some questions. If I have more than 2 Bots/ enemies in Assaultcube 1024 X 768 graphics setting good, it seems to slow down game play, Is this because the bots are limited to a single CPU thread? and would therefore work better on larger Intel single or dual chips? Is any one else playing Assaultcube what settings are you finding optimize the RK3399? Seasalt.

Hello everyone, I have an issue in here. I'm very new to these things so have little knowledge and thus, forgive me if i ask something stupid but i have a problem. I have installed armbian debian verson to my NanoPC T4 and installed i3wm and did a lot of configuration and filled it with junk but i almost achieved what i'm trying to. Yet as i mentioned, i also filled with a lot of junk while trying to achieve my setup for my project. Anyway, from what i know is that what i'm asking is not the linux way but while trying, i found a problem on my case. I wanted to make a clean installation and fill the things i found out worked with the se…

Related to It looks like the problem's related to the USB autosuspend. Googling "xHCI host not responding to stop endpoint command." seems to say so. I've been trying to disable the USB autosuspend but no success. I followed all possible ways described in https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/91027/how-to-disable-usb-autosuspend-on-kernel-3-7-10-or-above and https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/usb/power-management.txt but $ cat /sys/module/usbcore/parameters/autosuspend always returns 2 Board: NanoPi M4, 4GB with Armbian_5.65_Nanopim4_Debian_stretch_default_4.4.162.7z

Hi, I'm making a Media Box. I've got MVP compiled and optimized for gstreamer vaapi support. I was wondering how far off is DRI2 support for the mali fbdev armsoc kernel driver ? I haven't found all the source to build it. Rockchip doesn't list the NanoPC-T4. Is the FireFly a close fascimile ? The only reason whysk is I noticed the Firefly dtb is included in my nanopc-t4 install. The RockChip's Github repository for x86-video-armsock didn't list the NanoPC-T4 in their source. I found SunXi, Allwinner, and Firefly Also would using the rev04 dtb fix some issues (bluetooth) Sometimes bluetooth initializes.. for several rebo…

On Rock64, I use youtube-dl CLI app.to download the video (720p) during my off-peak bandwidth time, and watch with MPV or VLC later in fullscreen (1920x1080). It plays OK, but this drives the temperature up to 89-92 ! This is a monitor of the results: http://davekimble.net/problem.video.replay.txt . I think the dropped frames are because of 25 fps v 60 fps of the monitor. I know it is a lot of work, but any ideas for reducing the workload welcome. Anybody else get this?

I tried building the mainline kernel (ayufan) for NanoPC T4. My aim is to bring up bluetooth. No quite familiar with device tree, just googling and reading the kernel doc, and now I had some luck. According to this post (https://discuss.96boards.org/t/updated-preliminary-support-for-bluetooth-in-debian-rock960/5588/7) in 96boards forum, in recent kernel, there is a serial bus support for bcm blutooth. ---- firmware. I used firmware from the repo mentioned in the post: https://github.com/openwetek/wlan-firmware-aml/blob/master/bcm_ampak/config/4356/bcm4356a2.hcd according to hci_bcm.c code, this file should be renamed to BCM4…

Gentlemen, I have a rock64 board, and I would like to use an external RTC module with DS1307 chip. Unfortunately the armbian kernel does not provide DS1307 driver by default: root@rock64:~# cat /boot/config-4.4.162-rockchip64 | grep DS1307 # CONFIG_RTC_DRV_DS1307 is not set I don't have the programming skills for sending a pull request to enable this module. Could you please enable this module for ROCK64? I believe other ROCK64 owners may also benefit from this driver, as the board does not expose a working RTC, and DS1307 is a very common RTC chip. Thanks in advance.

So now I am playing with Rock64 4GB. I installed the Armbian_5.65 server edition OS and then installed xorg, lxde, and lxdm., then rebooted into a working system. Final stage of setting up was to test rhythmbox_3.4.2 and there was no sound. pavucontrol > playback shows the app is running and the worm is leaping about, but absolutely no sound. Same playing a .wav file with mpv, or indeed any player. Is there something unusual about the audio socket, or some other limitation. armbianmonitor -u = http://ix.io/ltt0

Can someone please help me understand how Armbian for Rock64 is developed? In the past, there was an image for the Rock64 that was a server image, not a desktop image. Now, I see Ubuntu and a Debian Stretch desktop images, no server image. Is there a plan to build a server image going forward? Also, will a newer kernel be built at some point? Not trying to stir the pot or cause trouble, just trying to understand where the Rock64 support is going in the future. Thank you for all the spectacular work the Armbian team does.

I'm about to install active cooling fan on my recently delivered nanoPI T4. However, I cannot get what is a type of the soldered 3-pin fan connector on this board? What I see there is visually too small as for standard connector size. Is it something special I have no clue about yet, or it is for future proprietary Friendlyarm's fan designed specially for the board? Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks

Hi all, a new RK3399 board appeared, it is called RockPi4 I have two of these beasts here already, and they works nicely - I like the small details about it (nice eMMC fixture, all heat plates on the bottom side for simple cooling, and an M.2 PICe slot for my second network card Do you see any chance to get Armbian working on that beast, and if so, what can *I* do (with my limited experience in kernel programming)? Debian is working on it already, in case you need more specific information please let me know. Any help is appreciated. So far, Michael

I'd like to hear from other have a similar setup to what I'm thinking about. Does it perform well enough for what you're using it for? What are you using it for? What kind of samba through put do you get on the USB2 and USB3 (perhaps with the USB3->SATA adapter) Thanks.

/proc/sys/crypto doesn't exist, so anything checking the status of /proc/sys/crypto/fips_enabled fails terribly. (Specifically trying to bring up a FreeIPA server which includes tomcat-based Dogtag CA, it checks for FIPS during setup, dies). I see there is an rk_crypto kernel module available, so I don't know why /proc/sys/crypto itself is missing. I tried 'modprobe rk_crypto' and it loaded (appears in output of 'lsmod'), but /proc/sys/crypto still doesn't exist.

I'm a noob in writing dts files, I've tried to take as exemple dts from RPI and Thinker. edit: I've rebuild the kernel, and build the mcp251x.ko module, it load like a charm. But I assume I've to write a correct .dts file to link it to my devices tree. here is my loaded modules list: Module Size Used by can_bcm 24576 0 can_raw 20480 0 can 53248 2 can_bcm,can_raw mali 262144 0 rt2800usb 28672 0 rt2800lib 81920 1 rt2800usb rt2x00usb …

Hi, I received my new rock64 today and I downloaded this image https://dl.armbian.com/rock64/Debian_stretch_default_desktop.7z I used Etcher as recommended to create the SD card and booted off of it with just power and network connected as I assumed it would boot, assign a dhcp address and bring up sshd so I could remote onto it. I scanned my network to see if any new devices had been added with dhcp, but couldn't see anything new so I connected the rock64 up to a TV and then booted it up, connected up a keyboard and noticed it ran through an install process on first local login. I followed all the directions and a desktop appeared on s…

Trying to choose between an eMMC module or a USB Flash drive for the boot volume on a Rock64. I have a few Rock64's that I'm building as various services (Nextcloud, Pi-Hole, VPN, OMV, and/or Netatalk Backup). None of these devices will need large boot volumes as the data will be in secondary (Hard or SSD) Drives or will require VERY little data storage. On the RPi's that the Rock64's are replacing, I've been using USB Flash drives for booting. I get the feeling that an eMMC module is a better choice, but do have any real knowledge. Are the eMMC modules more reliable and less prone to corruption that USB Flash Drives? I do have some 32GB and 64…

I'm building a portable battery powered NAS because syncing and having everything multiple times on all my Android devices sucks. I took my old Banana Pi connected a SSD to the SATA port and made it a access point (no Samba yet installed). Booting from the 16GB SanDisk Ultra A1 is 27 seconds. Moving everything to the SSD in armbian config is also 27 seconds (no difference?) I know the Banana has not the fastest SATA and NIC and that USB 3 on the Rock64 is faster. But i don't copy tons of gigabyte to the device everyday and for streaming over the WiFi stick it's fast enough. I'm interested on the boot time of the Rock64 (e…

Hi! I'm trying to create a vpn access point with a Rock64. I'm receving a low speeds with openvpn but the openssl tests show that there is crypto acceleration. I'm new to all of this. I assume the vpn speeds would be much higher since crypto extensions are enabled in armbian, that's why I choose the Rock64 and Armbian. Hi everybody, I recently set up a small server with the Rock64 booting armbian stretch 5.59 stable directly from a 120 GB SSD attached via USB3. Booting is handled with U-Boot from ayufan on the SPI flash. The Rock64 is board revision 2.0, the power supply is the original Pine64 one for the Rock. Besides the SSD, there are no other peripherals connected. The board often (3 out of 4 times) hangs when booting. In this case, all LEDs are lit, the orange network LED will flash and the board is not reachable by SSH and not pingable. My impression is, that it is stuck because the SSD either powered up too late or the USB connection is delayed. However, I…

Hello, Each time I'm booting the Rock64, it starts on Jan, 21 of 2016 but the filesystem has a superblock on Jan,28 of 2018, so in the future. It's inconsistant and the filesystem is checking each time and I'm waiting a few seconds. How can I avoid this trouble ? Here is the screen shot of logs through the tty/usb console. I'm booting from the spi flash and a sd-card with Ubuntu 18.04.1.

Hello everybody, bought a Rock64 4 GB recently and I´m not able to boot it with any provided armbian Debian/Ubuntu image. With the Ubuntu Image ethernet doesnt seem to be initialized and with Debian there is activity on the eth port, but no connection, neither of the images show any output on the screen. Also i tried various SD-Cards and different image burning programs. Openmediavault works flawlessly, so I can exclude Hardware issues.

I'm trying to switch the upper USB port to peripheral mode so I can use the ethernet gadget on it. Has anyone done anything like that before? I've got an issue here https://github.com/ayufan-rock64/linux-build/issues/117 with some of the things I've tried already.

Hello All, I recently bought Orange Pi RK3399 and had some problems with it. At this moment I've solved most of them, but still no luck with such an old OS like Ubuntu Server 16.04 or Debian 9 which were provided by the manufacturer (images to flash). What I am thinking now is to move this board to Armbian. Will it work? How should I in this case organize the partitions on eMMC and where to load kernel and rootfs? I don't see this board in supported ones.

Good evening, I have a Rock64/4G board and just downloaded and installed the Armbian_5.42_Rock64_Debian_stretch_default_4.4.124_desktop.7z to the SD card. After the reboot I saw X11 login interface and everything was great. After that I installed the latest packages with an apt update and then apt upgrade and restarted. Now I only see "rock64 login:" on the screen. The Xorg.0.log I have attached looks actually quite good. Xorg.0.log

Not the final version. Update(8/24/2018): It's time to deal with NEO4, this picture is not the final version. NEO4 will have PCIe x2 and eMMC connector too, and a MIPI-CSI. But the dual-layer USB connector will share USB 3.0 & USB 2.0, Type-C take another USB 3.0.

New user of a Rock64 board, I've tinkered with a RaspberryPi and BeagleBone before but wanted something to set up as a home media server. I flashed the SD card with an "Armbian_5.42_Rock64_Ubuntu_xenial_default_4.4.124" image and it worked perfectly fine at home, connecting to my network, etc. However, I took it to a new location and it straight up refuses to boot. I've tried it on several displays and with several HDMI cables. It hangs for a solid 30-45 seconds after initiating boot with a black HDMI screen, and then turns off and back on dumping a log citing either spinup shutdown errors or a temperature shutdown on Core 0. I've flash…

I'm trying to use it with a TV that has HDMI input but it's 1360x766. xrandr says it's running at 1920x1080. It's very small, like keep a magnifying glass handy, and I don't have the bottom of the screen where LXDE puts the pager and buttons. I thought from my Raspberry Pi experience that I'd just change the mode in my config.txt https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/configuration/config-txt/video.md but apparently the Rock64 isn't that evolved. Can I set an HDMI mode in my armbianEnv.txt? Can it use CVT modes? The standard 1360x768 mode isn't quite right. I've been around this stuff since you had to work out an xfree86.conf file on paper and take ti…

Hi, I'm unable to get my Rock64 to boot either the Xenial or Stretch Armbian images from SD or Emmc. I can get all of the other OS's to boot fine off of either media. Ive tried with multiple Emmc chips, SD cards and Rock64's with the same results so its not the hardware. Seems like it cant find the boot loader. Ive used win32diskimager, Etcher and the Rock64 instakk software. I've formatted the SD card completely, used new SD cards... I'm stuck! Any suggestions Thanks!

Has anyone here tested the Rock64 successfully with an u-boot version which is not the one from ayufan? I did not have much luck with the rk3328 default config and mainline u-boot when I tried it a while back. The same is true when I tried to use the board config from ayufan with mainline u-boot. The version by ayufan is working in principle but also is rather dated as far as I know and therefore does not support some newer features. Anyone knows if the version from ayufan will be bumped or has a working config for a more recent u-boot version?

This is something hopefully suitable to become a 'Board Bring up' thread. The NanoPC T4 was the smallest RK3399 board around featuring full set of interfaces (Rock960 was smaller but there you can't use GbE without a proprietary expander) but in the meantime he got two smaller siblings: NanoPi M4 and the cute NEO4. Pros: Another RK3399 board so software support is already pretty mature Rich set of interfaces (2 x USB2 without shared bandwidth, 2 x USB3, triple display output and so on) No powering hassles due to 12V (2A) PSU requirement 16GB superfast eMMC 5.1 Usable and performant Wi-Fi (dual band and dual antenna so…

I got the Rock64 specifically for router-like functionality. In addition to the native ethernet port, I've added two USB3 RTL8153 Gigabit adapters: http://www.realtek.com.tw/products/productsView.aspx?Langid=1&PFid=56&Level=5&Conn=4&ProdID=326 I've tried multiple 0.5.x and 0.6.x Ayufan images, and also Stretch armbian here (which also uses the Ayufan kernel). I've tried both the 4.4 kernel all these distros come with, and up to 4.17 as well. In all cases I see terrible and unreliable USB3/USB2 and ethernet performance. In the Armbian Sketch image I see 'eth1' go up and down contstantly: …

I'm running Armbian on a 4 GB Rock64, downloaded and installed yesterday. I've been using Debian/Raspbian/Armbian for about 10 years and I've really come to rely on Synaptic for searching and being able to make download scripts. Not every day but about once a week especially if I'm setting up something (like this Rock64). This Synaptic's access to the package database seems incredibly slow. A single search may take 20 minutes. After installing something it reloads the list and shows it on the screen, that can be another 20 minutes. During this time it's got 1 thread using 100% of one CPU. Typing is sometimes impaired, window repainting usually. …

Recently I've been trying to build Armbian for Firefly RK3399, since I've purchased this board last year, and it has been lacking proper software support for a long time. Here is my fork https://github.com/hjc4869/build/tree/development Basically, It is a copy & paste of what's already done to support Odroid N1, by replacing the Hardkernel's kernel to what Firefly provides (an older 4.4.77 kernel), and replacing the Hardkernel u-boot with rockchip u-boot. I created a new 'firefly' board family for convenience. Also tried to build the image with some other kernel variants (Rockchip 4.4 bsp and mainline 4.17-rc6) without success, still investigati…

Hi, Is it possible to boot from SSD? How it should be partitioned? Can I use any arbitrary partition for rootfs? Should I follow the procedure from this thread ? It assumes I should write the armbian image to a whole drive instead of partition, right? Well, I actually tried some way... First, I've tried to just run some utility from ambian-config that transfers rootfs to a partition. Device did not boot after this (with SD card ejected). Then I've flashed the ayufan's u-boot-flash-spi-rock64.img.xz. This also fails (boot log is attached) but the log looks promising. BTW, I'm experimenting with Ubuntu 18.04 image built by myself …

Hello all. I've made a video about the Rock64. I've tried different distro's, but Armbian was the best for me. The only problems I've found was that Synaptic Package Manager didn't work. It crashes when I press the search button. And sometimes surfing was extremely slow. Otherwise it did fix all the problems I've had with the other distro's I've tried. Thank you for all the great work. Now I've started my research with the Orange Pi +2, and again Armbian is the best choice. Greetings, NicoD Here is my video.
