Update May-21-2018: script may have negative impact on HDMI audio, needs further investigation. Patches pushed to enable I2S HDMI device, but audio does not come out. Update Feb-20-2018: script update committed for out of the box audio support (both outputs and inputs) for ASUS Tinker Board. Available sinks: BT-VOIP SPDIF Headset (the jack) Available sources: BT-VOIP Headset-input (the jack) Tinkerboard sound is possible with Armbian, however I have not worked to get it set up "out of the box" because of a major bug in the sound itself, namely that it outputs pure high pitched garbage from certain ap…

Anyone who typically updates on nightly kernels I would recommend freezing and not updating until we clear up some issues gifted us by some large amount of upstream changes that broke well, pretty much everything. I will update this thread as things get brought back to life. June 7th 2018: I've made a branch (rockchip-default) to work out the kinks. So far I have the board booting and Mali working again (with an initial error on load) , however there is no HDMI terminal, so initial boots would require a uart or SSH hdmi terminal is back thank you to Ntemis on github, I'd missed part of the conversation (I only have cell phone while at w…

Hi there, I'm trying to install docker on my tinkerboard s running armbian 5.73. I've managed the following steps from your documentation: sudo apt-key adv --keyserver pool.sks-keyservers.net --recv-keys 0EBFCD88 sudo echo "deb [arch=amd64] https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu bionic stable" > sudo /etc/apt/sources.list.d/docker.list sudo apt update But when i tried to install docker using: sudo apt install docker-ce I'm getting the error that docker-ce has no installation candidate. Does anyone maybe have an idea how to get this working? Thank you.

Hi all, I'm running Armbian 4.19 (both stable kernel 5.77 and nightly) on an TinkerBoard S. I'm trying to connect a 3.2inch resistive Touch Display to SPI2. The display works with ili9341 module on SPI2 CS0. I have the touch screen of it on the SPI2@1 (CS1) but no way of getting a module or overlay dts for the ADS7846 TouchScreen. I've seen, there is a generice resisitive-adc-touch module, but I can't get it running. Using the ADS7846 on armbian with AllWinner and several other boards for many years. Works great so far. Any hints, how to get it running in such a way, that it will be there with downstream updates (meaning without h…

I have spent a considerable amount reading docs and getting my head around building a custom default kernel & desktop image. Patching the kernel and optimising the desktop environment is working well. The remaining question is: How do I select a specific - kernel 4.4.174 (based on armbian-release 5.75) ? It defaults to 4.4.176 and 5.86.

We are looking at replacing the raspi3b+ with the tinkerboardS (rockchip 3288) in an embedded system, running armbian (bionic-4.19). Initial tests show that OS stability, board performance and form factor make the tinkerboardS a good substitute for the raspi. However, one issue we have run into is a conflict with pin 32 of the GPIO which is used by the hostboard for managing output devices. We have tried to turn off serial2 by removing the UART2 overlay and adding 'console=display' in /boot/armbianEnv.txt and also disabling & masking serial-getty@ttyS2.service but that hasn't stopped pin 32 from being chatty when connected to the hostboard. Is…

I'm using Armbian on a Tinker Board S. I did the installation back when the 4.4 kernel was still the default one. I expected that I'd get the newer 4.19 kernel by using 'apt update && apt dist-upgrade' at some point as it would become the new stable. This does not seem to be the case however, as I see the new downloads use 4.19 by default, but the stable package still points to a 4.4 kernel. Is it recommended to just move up by installing the kernel package with the next suffix or are there still reasons to wait with upgrading?

I try to understand the usage of Tinkerboard for Industrial Application usage, we have below questions. 1. Operating temperature is between 0-60 C [as many Industrial PLCs recommend 0-55 C only] 2. Long Term Supply of the Boards 3. Bulk Quantities buying [Get 30 to 50 boards in 2-4 weeks notice] The board and quality seems top notice, RPI interface is good for our use cases, anyone sees a risk in above points or would like to suggest something? We are looking a good sized community, Ubuntu OS, much stable and better performing board compared to Raspberry PI, all seems good with Tinkerboard. Please share your idea…

I put a TinkerBoard in a Pi-Top CEED and using TinkerOS 2.0.8 it boots and the LCD works fine. Using Armbian it looks like it boots but nothing is displayed on the LCD. The Pi-Top CEED uses a HDMI to 30-pin converter board and the current LCD is a 1920x1080 14in that I used to upgrade the original. Any ideas why the Raspberry running Raspbian and The Tinkerboard running TinkerOS would work with the display but Armbian wouldn’t?

Just reporting that there is some tx-offload bug in the ASUS Tinker Board Rockchip. I think I read about this issue regarding other rockchip/platforms when checksum offload bugs on large packets. When I run ethtool -K eth0 tx off I stop having issues with NFS over TCP The last part of diagnosis is when I forced a NFS crash by enabling tx offloading.

Tinkerboard (old one, not S) to be used as x2go thin client. Installed latest image (5.70_Tinkerboard_Ubuntu_bionic_next_4.19.14_desktop), applied all updates. Working fine (thanks to everybody who contributed). Issue remaining: My Tinkerboard refuses to use the monitor's native display size of 1920x1200, tried several monitors and cables (HDMI to DVI adapter cables, in case this is relevant). Without any modifications, Armbian desktop comes up with 1280x960. I used xrandr to set 1920x1080 (works), but 1920x1200 leads to "xrandr: Configure crtc 0 failed". Any chance to resolve this?

Hello all. I'm doing some tests with the Tinker Board to see what's the best operating system for it for a new video. I'm using the Armbian Ubuntu Desktop legacy kernel. For this I do Blender and Kdenlive renders to see if there's a speed difference. But with both I've got the problem that it crashes the Tinker Board. Sometimes it's a hard crash and the whole system freezes, and sometimes Blender or Kdenlive just close themselfs but Armbian keeps working. I do not have this problem in Lubuntu. In TinekrOS Kdenlive totally doesn't work. It looks the same as an unstable overclock on a system. I've tried different psu's. I'm using the Tinker h…

Hi, I really like the new option to use DT Overlays on the tinkerboard. But right now I'm struggeling a little with it: I have an old installation with 5.60 which I updated to 5.70 via apt. There's a few problems with the UART driver on 5.0-rc2 kernels, since proper checks are not done correctly and lead to a Null Pointer dereference. I bought a Tinkerboard S and Tinker Aluminum case yesterday, but because of the case, it's Wifi function is almost non-exist, so I bought a TP-LINK TL-WN722N v2 two hours ago. I was hoping to get a V1, which has a lot of information on Wikidevi, and looks like it's going to work out-of-the-box, but I got a v2, and now I'm trying to get it to work. Wikidevi provided a link to driver repository, I downloaded main branch and type "make all" in terminal, it says /lib/modules/4.4.166-rockchip/build does not exist. I tried to search how to install kernel header and tried this command "sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r)", it doesn't work/help. …

Hello, I'm enabling g_ether driver on tinker board. The driver works and I'm able to emulate an Ethernet adapter on my PC when I connect it to the tinker micro USB port. This only works if the micro USB connection exists before powering ON the board. If I connect it while the device is already running nothing happens. This behavior may be related to the following kernel path: https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/10535905/ Is there any parameter I can add to avoid the USB from going to hibernate state? Or would it be possible to add the mentioned patch to armbian build tool? Thanks!

I just recently bought a sim5320a GSM/GPS cape for my Tinkerboard S and it requires the use of ttyS3; however, by default Armbian uses this port for console... so I'm unable to use it w/ the cape. Hello, I'm observing a strange behavior. If I connect the Tinkerboard to HDMI, it won't start. Only the red led LED lights up. Yellow and green did not light up. hello. I have a problem for quite some time on my tinkerboard. I do not know if it's a software or hardware problem. It appeared after connecting a special Raspberry USB Hub http://www.uugear.com/product/7-port-usb-hub-for-raspberry-pi/ I used this HUB on a raspberry 3b but he grilled the wifi chip (disappeared totally). I thought I had to grill the wifi chip of the tinkerbard like the raspberry but I can see the chip turn on from time to time. Today she has reappeared but "wlan0 not ready" in the network manager. sudo ip link show wlan0 wlan0: <BROADCAST, MULTICAST> mtu 1500 qdisc noop state DOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000…

Hello and thanks for reading. I have done some digging before posting this so let me explain my issue and then what I have tried. I am using the Tinker Board S (via SD card, had same issue using EMMC img also) with the Bionic mainline kernel 4.14.y (in armbian config tool it shows Armbian 5.60 Stable ) on an LG 24LF452B montior/tv with the boards HDMI port and no adapters. I have been trying to set the display resolution to 1366X768 or as close to it (it does not appear in the display settings menu natively) but cant seem to make this work. The display works fine on other resolutions, except for horrible image because the wrong resolution, and can be used on 1366X768 …

I've adapted a set of patches from Urja Rannikko, which move the HDMI frequencies definition into the DTS file, with some preconfigured rates if none are defined in the DTS. The original patches set is here : https://www.spinics.net/lists/arm-kernel/msg673156.html The big patch I used as a basis is here : https://github.com/urjaman/arch-c201/blob/master/linux-c201/0020-RK3288-HDMI-clock-hacks-combined.patch I included these patches by splitting them again : https://github.com/Miouyouyou/RockMyy/commit/57ff073fffb5678e75959e566704376f6f52ac17 These patches were suggested to me here : https://github.com/Miouyouyou/RockMyy/issues/3 …

hello i just installed Armbian_5.59_Tinkerboard_Ubuntu_bionic_next_4.14.67_desktop on a new tinkerboard s .. and ran myself into a corner immediately. i was trying to figure out how to get 4K 2160p resolution instead of HD 1080p. i changed the refresh rate from 60Hz to 30Hz and now can't get the display back. i tried reboot. and documentation at https://docs.armbian.com/User-Guide_Fine-Tuning/ said to modify /boot/boot.cmd and that file says "edit /boot/armbianEnv.txt to set supported parameters" .. . so i set disp.screen0_output_mode=1920x1080p60 in armbianEnv.txt no luck .. i seem to have gone headless earlier than planned .. advice pls? i w…

Referring the MPP samples, i have got an application which can give me NV12 data. 4 instance(or threads) of this application will give me raw data, i need to scale all of them in a single screen. Is it achievable through Mali GPU with current development of userland/kernel driver? Also i need to perform composition. On that tiled screen, i need to show other semi-opaque(transparent) window. Which library can help me to do the same?

I have Rockchip 3288 board. As per the link: http://opensource.rock-chips.com/wiki_Graphics I checked the log at /var/log/Xorg.0.log and found glamor initialization failed. There is also log which says EGL_MESA_drm_image required, i checked x-server code and found this message lead to glamor initialization failed. Apart from these when i run glxinfo, it shows It means direct rendering is enabled. But when i run glxgears it consumed almost 18% CPU( So i think glxgear is not able to use GPU and performing all tasks at CPU). What i am to do: I have created a application which can decode H264 vid…

Hi folks... Looking at RK3288 on Armbian and the power/thermals - which are considerable considering SBC's like tinkerboard and miqi Currently - looks like all cores are following the same power/time domain - so one core goes fast, and the others follow, so sucks power and raises temps, and we get heat soaked quickly... Looking at the Rockchip docs, it does look like the RK3288 does have PD's for each core along with other logic... Six separate power domains for every core to support internal power switch and externally turn on/off based on different application scenario * PD_A17_0: 1st Cortex-A17 + Neon + FPU + L1 I/D Cache * PD_A…

Hello there. At present I power my Tinker Board S with a bench power supply set to 5.25V. The power supply has 10A current limiter. I measure the voltage at the GPIO pins using a 6.5 digit multimeter (in cal). The micro usb cord is 1.2 meters (4 feet). When the board is running in tinker os at idle, it is drawing 500mA, and i read 5.00V on the GPIO. But when I load the CPU using sysbench the current spikes to 1.6A, and the voltage measured on the GPIO drops to 4.45V. I measured that the micro USB cable is 0.37Ohm resistance, so about 0.55V of that power drop is due to the micro usb cable. That means all of the voltage drop is not due to the power c…

Hello! I set up a firewall on the Asus Tinkerboard. I came across a very strange thing - the lack of support for the CT target in iptables. In fact, it appears that iptables has support of given target, but the required kernel module is missing. After running cat /boot/config-4.4.120-rockchip | grep NETFILTER_XT_TARGET_ST I saw the following: # CONFIG_NETFILTER_XT_TARGET_CT is not set. What the reason of that decision? It blocks ability to forward sip, ftp and some other protocols precisely. And also blocks ability to use SYNPROXY target correctly. Is it planned to include this module in the build?

As https://www.armbian.com/tinkerboard/ has a quite fresh 4.14 Linux kernel (in Armbian Stretch Next Desktop 5.50) I am trying to use that instead of the standard TinkerOS 2.0.7 with a 4.4.103 kernel. However, Armbian is configured to provide only spidev2.0, while TinkerOS can have spidev0.0, spidev0.1, spidev2.0 and spidev2.1 all enabled at the same time as long as you disable UART4 which shares GPIO header pins with SPI0. In the TinkerOS case, there is a config tool which edits a small and straightforward text file in /boot/ containing lines such as "intf:spi0=on" or "intf:uart4=off". The corresponding Armbian file seems to be /boot/armbianEnv.txt - possibly…

Hi, I created a Tinkerboard OMV 4 image some while ago, we uploaded it untested (since 'OMV' just means Armbian's build system doing its job with a massive post processing script adding tons of stuff) but now got the report it doesn't boot. That's a bit surprising given that the image has been downloaded over a hundred times and no one complained so far. Deleting the image is the logical consequence but maybe someone here with a serial console can give it a try and report whether the board comes up or where it gets stuck at booting. http://kaiser-edv.de/tmp/jk4NM5/OMV_4_Tinkerboard.img.xz (with mainline kernel) or the default kernel variant from he…

Hello, I have 2 questions. 1. How long does the support for the tinkerboard takes. Because I'm using the Board as Server and i don't need much CPU Power but I don't like to buy every 2-4 years a new board because the support ended. The reason of this question is, the odroid c1, there is no stretch image for this board. 2. Is there a good howto, how to build a kernel on a thinkerboard with own config? Reason for this question is, I have installed the latest armbian stretch server image on my tinker board and the kernel has no ebtables support. Second Reason ist question 1, build a own Kernel and update to Debian 10,11, ...., n.

Hello, I am using the armbian kernel+uboot patchset of the rockchip-next (4.14.x) part to support Tinkerboard+TinkerboardS in an own home automation environment. U-Boot 2018.05 and kernel 4.14.53 are working fine so far with the current patchset published on GitHub (thanks for this great work!). However, the only issue I am still having is, that the ethernet port always comes up with "no-link" on the intial powerup of the Tinkerboard. As soon as I software reboot it after the initial powerup the ethernet port perfectly comes up with a link and I am able to setup all IP data, etc. But as soon as I completely power down the system and replug the power-cable it a…

Hello, I am the author of a home automation platform (RaspberryMatic) which is targeted for embedded platforms like RaspberryPi or Tinkerboard. I am regularly following Armbian kernel and u-boot updates for the Tinkerboard and integrate them into my buildroot-based environment so that recent kernel and u-boot versions can be used. I have already updated my environment to kernel 4.14.x and U-boot 2018.05 using the great armbian patchset from GitHub (Thanks for the hard work to get all the Tinkerboard S related issues sorted out recently). What I am currently trying to achieve is to get the Tinkerboard to use a different set of standard gpio settings…

Just got my Tinker Board S in... used Etcher to flash the following image to the eMMC: Armbian Stretch mainline kernel 4.14.y It won't boot. That same image flashed to the SD card boots just fine. I've tried using the armbian-config to install it to the eMMC that way; however, all I get are "There are no targets. Please check your drives." What the heck am I doin' wrong? New to the entire SBC realm, and got this instead of the Pi. I don't want a desktop distro installed... just a simple distro w/ bash. I cannot get any CMA reserved space when I use latest LTS kernel (4.14): dmesg always says that no memory has been reserved for CMA. Is CMA working on mainline kernel for Mali Midgard? Is it required for 3D/video decoding stuff or the Mali kernel driver should instead allocate memory on-demand? I see that most of the kernel configuration options regarding CMA are disable or not set, which one requires to be enabled?

Hi all, I've got an application that runs from the terminal and with it failing to work on Tinker OS I've gone back to my default OS, Armbian, where it works faultless. However, everything worked great on my own 25" Philips monitor.... The Tinker Boards will be plugged into a number of 1440 x 900 60hz Samsung and LG HDMI monitors; the only screens available where I am. When using these screens I get a 2-3 pixel vertical purple line down the left of the screen and horrific 1 pixel high, long horizontal multi-coloured lines 'snowing' down the screen like old TV interference. The LG monitors consistently flicker on and off trying to change resolution.…

Today my effort is getting the rk3288 tv box boot from USB devices. During the initialization of the OTG USB port, u-boot complaints about dwc_otg_core_host_init() function which is timing out. I tried to manipulate the device tree chaning the dr_mode flag to host, otg and peripheral, but nothing changed. The only way to get rid of the timeout is to disable the device which, by the way, seems to not work anyway. Hi. I need hardware OpenGL ES, at least 2.0. I’ve tried this https://github.com/rockchip-linux/libmali It works OK on latest Asus OS 2.0.1, but for Armbian 5.33 kernel 4.4.88 it doesn’t: ERROR: The DDK is not compatible with any of the Mali GPUs on the system. The DDK was built for 0x750 r0p0 status range [1..1], but none of the GPUs matched: Segmentation fault I don’t have much experience with Linux, but IMO it might mean the kernel + userland parts of the GPU driver are incompatible. Is there a working GPU driver for Mali-T76x on Armbian? Thanks in advance! Regards, Kosta.

So those of us working on getting Retro Pie working on the Tinkerboard have run into a road block. Perhaps someone here might have a clue on this? Current using these instructions to build Retro Pie using the legacy Armbian Debian (4.4) https://github.com/Tinkerpie/Armbian-Setup And for audio over HDMI you need to currently make a change in /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf setting defaults.pcm.card to 1 When this script linked down below: https://github.com/Rydra/bgm-for-es The BGM script takes over all audio so for instance the audio in games does not work or any other audio such as audio from the video sna…

Hi, I've got several tinkerboards that I've reproduced this problem on. I'm using the tinkerboard to do network tests, this includes iperf3 traffic, dns querys (dig), https and http (echoping), and ping. All of these tests runs against IPv6 targets and IPv4 targets. These tests are scheduled to very frequently (every other minute or so). To begin with, all tests run fine.. I get good results (~1gbit throughput / low latency / no packet loss). However, after running the tests for 15-20min, suddenly all traffic will more or less stop working (80-90% packet loss). This is no matter what I'm pinging, can be the local router, some target on the…

Hi there! o/ I have noticed something... Odd. This is not a show stopper here, but the TinkerBoard NIC leds stays off all the time (if no traffic) even with link. It does blink somewhat schizophrenically when there's traffic. The right NIC led is bi-color and sometimes blinks in yellow, sometimes blinks in green. For what is worth, running Kernel 4.4-120. Issue also happened in build -104, which was the original Armbian image that I have downloaded. I thought it was something with the port, cables but... Traffic flows just normally Is it... normal? :-) Have a great (tinkering) weekend!!!

It would be nice to be able to use hardware crypto for VPNs. The rockchip's hardware crypto acceleration has apparently been supported since Kernel 4.5. I noticed that the CONFIG_CRYPTO_DEV_ROCKCHIP option hadn't been compiled into the standard Armbian builds, so I built a custom kernel. Having the rk_crypto module loaded gives me additional ciphers in /proc/crypto as expected. Without the module loaded (either blacklisted with my build, or with the normal Armbian kernel), my tunnel (IKEv2/IPSEC w Strongswan) works fine. But with the module installed, no traffic passes. Sometimes I see kernel errors in syslog. A couple of tim…

Hi there Board, I have bought my Tinkerboard after some good research with my fellow techies at Red Hat and reading thoroughly that 19+pages Tinkerboard Thread. After crafting a super lean/mean kernel (kconfig at https://gist.github.com/rfrht/5f0fa113f12fbacf832e57ff4967785a ), I got a stable and lightweight kernel configuration. Things got a lot funnier when doing some compatibility tests with specific Asterisk versions, I was able to install and run cleanly a Raspi .DEB pkg. And that got me thinking. I have now JUST replaced the Raspberry Pi with the Tinkerboard. And guess what: It was a _inplace_ upgrade! Using the same u…
