  1. We are looking at replacing the raspi3b+ with the tinkerboardS (rockchip 3288) in an embedded system, running armbian (bionic-4.19). Initial tests show that OS stability, board performance and form factor make the tinkerboardS a good substitute for the raspi. However, one issue we have run into is a conflict with pin 32 of the GPIO which is used by the hostboard for managing output devices. We have tried to turn off serial2 by removing the UART2 overlay and adding 'console=display' in /boot/armbianEnv.txt and also disabling & masking serial-getty@ttyS2.service but that hasn't stopped pin 32 from being chatty when connected to the hostboard. Is…

Hi, I really like the new option to use DT Overlays on the tinkerboard. But right now I'm struggeling a little with it: I have an old installation with 5.60 which I updated to 5.70 via apt. But the /boot/boot.cmd is still the old one and the Overlays are not working. Maybe I'm blind, but I do not see, how to update u-boot and the boot.cmd as part of it via armbian-config. Can someone point me to the right direction? Thanks, Alex

  5. I have Rockchip 3288 board. As per the link: http://opensource.rock-chips.com/wiki_Graphics I checked the log at /var/log/Xorg.0.log and found glamor initialization failed. There is also log which says EGL_MESA_drm_image required, i checked x-server code and found this message lead to glamor initialization failed. Apart from these when i run glxinfo, it shows It means direct rendering is enabled. But when i run glxgears it consumed almost 18% CPU( So i think glxgear is not able to use GPU and performing all tasks at CPU). 6. Hi everyone, I’m using an ASUS Tinker Board (RK3288, 2 GB, released in 2017). Since this board is quite old and we are now in 2025 I want to run the latest stable Armbian and develop a Python application using I²C, UART, PWM, and GPIO pins. Which Armbian image and kernel branch (current or edge) is the most stable for this board? Are there any specific steps or adjustments needed due to its older hardware? Thanks!

  7. Started by Myy,

Greetings, I recently had a request about testing the I2S and SPDIF output of MiQi devices and after some fiddling on this board, it seems that the Rockchip I2S + Simple-Audio ALSA driver just output nothing on the I2S TX/RX pins, at least. So was anyone able to output sound directly through the I2S GPIO pins on any RK3288 device ? Tinkerboard devices seems to use that setup and it seems to be working, but I'd like to know if that's working through the soldered Jack or the GPIO.

  11. I have a TinkerBoard S. In Bionic Desktop (kernel 4.4), the wireless icon menu lists two devices: wlan0 (which is the expected interface) and p2p0: I don't know this one, but it is always chosen for auto-connecting to the local wireless lan, receiving a random IP and not the one I configured on the router. I can then manually connect to the network with the wlan0 interface the IP is correct. How do I disable / remove / anyway stop that p2p0 interface to "steal" the network connection?

Let's make a topic dedicated to the latest issues with the latest Linux Release Candidate provided on the Linus Torvalds git repository. So, on the 4.13.0-rc6, I got a crash on boot on my MiQi devices due to some changes in the logging functions used by the STMMAC Ethernet driver. I reverted some of their changes by just commenting the new logging function. I'll try to get in touch with the person who wrote the commit that generated this issue, as he tends to roam in the #linux-rockchip IRC channel. Meanwhile, here's the patch : https://github.com/Miouyouyou/RockMyy/blob/master/patches/kernel/v4.13/0012-net-stmmac-Reverting-a-part-of-Use-…

  29. I'm using Armbian on a Tinker Board S. I did the installation back when the 4.4 kernel was still the default one. I expected that I'd get the newer 4.19 kernel by using 'apt update && apt dist-upgrade' at some point as it would become the new stable. This does not seem to be the case however, as I see the new downloads use 4.19 by default, but the stable package still points to a 4.4 kernel. Is it recommended to just move up by installing the kernel package with the next suffix or are there still reasons to wait with upgrading?

  32. So my boss deploys a plethora of Asus TInkerboards to assist with production. We are currently using an OS image provided to us by this website---specifically, Ubuntu_xenial_next_desktop.7z. On some occasions, with kick ass access points, the tinkers will disconnect from the wireless network that we are using. We are also using an antennae attachment which seems to help a bit with connection issues. Without providing too much specific info, is there an updated driver being worked on somewhere that I could be pointed towards? Any info/words of wisdom would be very helpful! Thank you! Best regards and thanks in advance! Joey

  53. Hello! I've been using Armbian on my newly bought Tinker Board for less than two weeks now and I've to say that the work you guys have put into this is incredible! It truly is remarkable and inspires us newcomers which haven't started studying computer science or are currently studying - as myself. So, I will definitely contribute and help others in the future to increase the Armbian community! However, as I'm new to Unix, Tinker Board, everything that's not Windows or Mac OS, I've a deep learning curve ahead! I can only get them to boot in "Secure" mode, which is the normal method of boot. Secure boot disables access to Privilege Level 2 and the ARM Hypervisor which makes virtualisation impossible. Kernel 4.19 will be the pilot for this, the discussion now that it seems to be working thanks to @martinayotte and @zador.blood.stained's feedback and examples is what to overlay. For testing/debugging I started with some ASUS overlays for RTC and 1wire. I need to empty this buffer when I read from it, or manually (without restarting the CAN-bus). Any ideas on how to do that? Thanks
