  1. I try to get working a tinkerboard on a battery. I can do that with S.USV or S.USV Mobile but i don't know the difference between them. I have a xl4015 (5Amp buck convecter) but I don't really understand how it's work (i have a lm2596 too). I have a 20AWG micro-usb too but i can power it too from gpio. So i search a quick way to get it work on a battery. I work and search on this since 5 week and i really need to get it work. Thx

  2. Started by chwe,

I played a bit with the SenseHAT from the RPi guys. Doesn't work fully but I get the first things working. What does run: Joystick 8x8 led matrix (partly, seems that there are some parts of the framebuffer not fully working) What doesn't run: all the sensors attached on the board What's missing: load it devicetree overlay (at the moment it's coded into the main dts) how-to what's needed to get it working on your tinker too I'll keep you updated.

  4. Hello everyone, I've begun working to target the Armbian Legacy Tinker Board build to the Rockchip kernel. There are a list of reasons why it needs done, including some relatively large differences between the current kernel's code base and the Rockchip kernel (making it hard to patch with bugfixes/etc) and inactivity on the part of the vendor of that kernel. There are also reasons I am preferring to use the Rockchip kernel rather than the ASUS kernel. First and formost is the need to also support the MiQi. The miniarm branch of Rockchip and the ASUS kernel have board-specific fixes written in such a way as to not be friendly to other boards. I've dec…

Hi, i get a probleme with the actual uart acces config by default on Uart2 (pin 32, 33), because i need to use PWM pin (use to set motor speed with a L293D) and on the board only pin 32, 33 can be use with PWM. Now i am using 32 33 pin as PWM but if the cable on these pin is connected the board doesn't boot, maybe because the uarts of u-boot use these pin and the result of un connected cable to my setup = Critical fail. When i remove the cable on pin 32 the board boot. So i need to solve that because i don't want to disconnect this cable at each start and i want to use uarts with this setup. I need to change uart2 to uart1 or find a way to get PWM or a other pin option …

Greetings, I recently had a request about testing the I2S and SPDIF output of MiQi devices and after some fiddling on this board, it seems that the Rockchip I2S + Simple-Audio ALSA driver just output nothing on the I2S TX/RX pins, at least. So was anyone able to output sound directly through the I2S GPIO pins on any RK3288 device ? Tinkerboard devices seems to use that setup and it seems to be working, but I'd like to know if that's working through the soldered Jack or the GPIO.

  14. This will be a catch-all for HDMI-related things. Sep. 29, 2017 UPDATE First up is hotplugging in Mainline. Script/rule added to build system. Thank you @botfap for the script I am getting the system events triggered saying the HDMI is unplugged/replugged, (using udevadm -monitor) however nothing is happening in response to the events it would seem, the screen is still blank. I could hook a script to the event, but I'm not exactly sure what I would tell it to do... Any thoughts would be great, I'll be researching.

I noticed when i try to boot the system, it takes approximately 25 minutes to show the Login request in the CLI and after that, it creates the user account but instead of proceeding to the regular desktop page, it gets stock there and does not proceed. I will please like to know if anyone has an idea of how to solve this issue as i urgently need it to get running fast to run the tests needed for my thesis. Thanks.

Hey, I’m running armbian on a tinkerboard and I need to connect to a CAN-bus. Apparently the usual Linux CAN-kernel-modules aren’t shipped with armbian, so I guess I’ll have to add them manually somehow. I`ve been trying to do that for two days now without any luck. I’ve been trying to follow the steps described in other forums, but it haven’t helped. I really just want to add the necessary modules to my existing kernel. Any ideas?

Everything's been working fine, except for one annoying thing I just ran into: I can't use the GPIO pins. When I try to use a pin in python I just get this message back: "RuntimeError: This gpio is set to other function!". If I run Debian I can use the gpio just fine, but I need some kernel modules that doesn't ship with Debian. That's why I've compiled my own armbian kernel. Anyways, any idea on how to fix this? Any special module I should add when compiling the kernel? Thanks Marius

Hi, has any of you some experience connecting a Hifiberry Amp+ to a Tinkerboard - on Hifiberry pages this is now a possible connecting but I miss a howto and would really appreciate a quick start on this. Have previously succeed with Raspberry 3 and IQaudio - but intend to take a step further and do a project being more than just an amplifier. After testing several OS I have to admit Armbian has become my favorite and it is within this OS I hope to achieve this.

Hey! I recently got a CAN-bus up and running on a Tinkerboard running Armbian, but I've run into another problem here: The CAN-bus buffer fills up. After sending a few messages I get an error saying "No buffer space available". I've noticed that some other people are solving this by increasing the buffer size, but that seems like a weird solution to me. And it wouldn't really help me much. I need to empty this buffer when I read from it, or manually (without restarting the CAN-bus). Any ideas on how to do that? Thanks

We are also using an antennae attachment which seems to help a bit with connection issues. I still have a problem configuring the wifi hotspot on the armbian distribution for tinkerboard. The hotspot is clearly unstable. So none of my computers can't connect to it and my phones and tablets have a unstable connection. I thought having found a turnover using a call to iw with a frequency of 1s. This was reactivating the wifi for some times (that should simulate a continuous connection) but it looks that it doesn't work anymore. *Updated 7-23* ~~All kernels should be fixed at this point, Legacy, Next, and Dev.~~ The ASUS Tinker Board has a big problem with rebooting properly, centered around the SD card power supplies. Upon issuing a shutdown request, the kernel is turning everything off , including the vmmc regulator. To make matters worse, vqmmc is set to 1.8 Volts if you use a UHS SD card, and the kernel is not switching it back to 3.3 volts before rebooting, which is required if the Rockchip boot ROM is to communicate with the device. The result is a hung board in MaskROM mode. For the Default kernel (4.4), a patch was carried over from the vendor softwa…

  55. Whats the correct way to get the Armbian build to spit boot out as a separate fat partition at the start of the image? Im just getting started with Armbian (on tinker board) and want to integrate it into by own build system. I need to generates SD card images with 3 different configs building 3 separate installs sharing a common multiboot 512MB fat boot partition. I dont need the Armbian build to do the multiboot or manage the boot partition at all, I just want to be able to extract the root & boot fs at the end of the build process.

Does anyone know what to do to enable 1920x1200 resolution? I've done the xrandr newmode/addmode and it shows in the display app but doesn't work. At the command line... xrandr --output HDMI-1 --mode 1920x1200_60.00 xrandr: Configure crtc 0 failed The monitor and tinker board support 1920x1200 and it works with tinkeros.

  57. Just started using the thinker board, and got fed up with the OEM builds which brought me here. So I would like to thank everyone for all the hard work, Im sure it can't be easy fixing things blind! Cheers mates. As the Tinkerboard runs hot under load, i run a program that adjusts pwm to adjust fan speed. so I noticed right away when upgrading to 4.13.0 that both soc and gpu thermal zones had broken. I've tried 4.13.1 and 4.13.2 as well they are broken as well. 4.13.x all kick error messages into dmesg as well. root@Asus:/sys/class/thermal# uname -r 4.12.0-rockchip root@Asus:/sys/class/thermal# cat /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone[1-2]/temp 32…

  58. Hello! I've been using Armbian on my newly bought Tinker Board for less than two weeks now and I've to say that the work you guys have put into this is incredible! It truly is remarkable and inspires us newcomers which haven't started studying computer science or are currently studying - as myself. So, I will definitely contribute and help others in the future to increase the Armbian community! However, as I'm new to Unix, Tinker Board, everything that's not Windows or Mac OS, I've a deep learning curve ahead! Let's start with my setup: Build: ARMBIAN 5.32.170921 nightly Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS 4.14.0-rc1-rockchip (I know it's nightly so there are bugs, ye…

I'm using Armbian_5.32.170920_Tinkerboard_Ubuntu_xenial_dev_4.13.0_desktop.img (yes I know it's a nightly) and it works great. However if I run "apt-get upgrade" something gets "upgraded" and the display no longer works. I've tested this on multiple tinkerboards with the same results. The tinkerboard is running, I can ssh into it. Just no display. dmesg output: Spoiler armbian@tinkerboard:~$ dmesg [ 0.000000] Booting Linux on physical CPU 0x500 [ 0.000000] Linux version 4.14.0-rc1-rockchip (root@armbian) (gcc version 5.4.0 20160609 (Ubuntu/Linaro 5.4.0-6ubuntu1~16.04.4)) #2 SMP PREEMPT Wed Sep 20 11:37:48 CEST 2017 [ 0.000000] CPU…

  60. Hi! I'm using Tinker board with armbian 5.31 stable (Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS 4.4.73-rockchip), and using this as File Server. 61. Hi, I am looking for owners of RK3288 who can help to find missing information in the system. A lot already works from the template. Vcore has been added thanks to @TonyMac32 , but some important information like RAM frequency (dynamic.5.name=dram_frequency) is still missing. This is my adjusted version, but to do some more HW testing we need as much information about the board as possible. Let's make a topic dedicated to the latest issues with the latest Linux Release Candidate provided on the Linus Torvalds git repository. So, on the 4.13.0-rc6, I got a crash on boot on my MiQi devices due to some changes in the logging functions used by the STMMAC Ethernet driver. I reverted some of their changes by just commenting the new logging function. I'll try to get in touch with the person who wrote the commit that generated this issue, as he tends to roam in the #linux-rockchip IRC channel. Meanwhile, here's the patch : https://github.com/Miouyouyou/RockMyy/blob/master/patches/kernel/v4.13/0012-net-stmmac-Reverting-a-part-of-Use-…

Hi I have a Philips pcf8563 RTC that connects to i2c-1. Could you please add support for RTC modules please particularly the pcf8563 and the DS1307 as these seem to be the most popular although some more models would be welcome. I have been trying to create a dtb with a previous kernel that included the needed modules but failed to get it to compile. I even tried adding it to the main device tree with no such luck. I know it's not been talked about much but would love to get RTC working on the tinkerboard. For those that haven't noticed the RK808 power management chip on the tinkerboard has RTC capability built in and even has the drive…

  68. So, if you use the mainline DTSI files, you'll encounter an issue when loading the Mali Midgard GPL kernel module, since the main ARM kernel maintainers changed how the "compatible" properties of Midgard GPU nodes should be defined. Don't ask me why, they created an entire documentation stating that now the Mali Midgard GPU nodes have to harbour the chip series number, a vendor-specific statement, and drop the "arm,mali-midgard" property. The additions are nice, since they allow a quick detection of the chip number and the chip vendor using /sys nodes names. However, turns out that the Mali kernel driver used the dropped property to detect the GPU. So, I've …

Just got my new tinkerboard powered up with armbian. For some reason I could not get anything after build 1.3 off the Asus site to boot! Anway, first impressions good, however in the graphics settings it seems to max out at 1920 x 1080 whilst on paper the tinkerboard is supposed to support 4k. I'll admit I am new to linux so perhaps i'm missing something ovbious, but if someone could explain how I can up the resolution to 3,840 x 2,160 that would be great. For the avoidance of doubt I have it connected to an Acer 27" 4k monitor.

  71. Hi all, looking for a bit of advise. I had an idea recently in that I have a problem of syncing a 20Tb USB 3.0 RAID0 drive with a 20Tb NAS. I have two fully duplicated RAID0 drives with no protection, so whenever I upgrade the capacity of a drive, I do a full sync. I do this maybe once a year. Whenever I have to do a full sync however it usually ties my MacBook up for a few weeks to transfer that much data over, so I had the idea recently of having a maker board do it since Linux/Armbian supports HFS+, I can just do an rsync between the two. I opted to purchase a Tinkerboard for the GigE Ethernet (I'll live with the USB 2.0), installed, up and running all…

To get the DVB USB Skystar Tuners running several modules out of kernel/drivers/media like dvb-core and usb are needed. Are this kernel drivers already compiled available or what to do to get them ? Thanks Thomas
