Problem: It starts to boot, I see the Armbian splash screen, it stays for around 10 seconds then goes back to console with the (initramfs) prompt. Last 2 lines of boot process are: Begin: Loading essential drivers . . . done. Begin: Running /scripts/pre-mount . . . (initramfs) [ 37.824201] random: crng init done (initramfs) I got it to boot once into GNOME by putting a USB flash drive with the burned image AND a SD card at the same time. But that was only once and I could never repeat it. This happens on both versions of the X96 I have. And I've followed everything here: I've tried bookworm…

Hi. I apologize if this is in the wrong section, I'm new to the forum. I'm trying to run Armbian on the Jadoo 4, which is a rebranded MyGica/Geniatech ATV 585 Android TV box. This device has an Amlogic S805 with an "stvm8b" board. I've been trying to follow these two tutorials (Video 1 and video 2) but when I insert the SD card into my device and hold down the rest pin, I end up in the recovery menu instead of booting straight into Armbian. Can someone help me out and give me a specific guide on how to do this? I know this information has probably been said a bunch of times on this forum, but I am genuinely lost. If it's important, I'm looking t…

I have an OTT TV Box, model ABOX-A1 ( 1G + 8G, S905X ). It is running Armbian 23.11.1 bookworm. How can I have hardware video decoding? Hardware video decoding support seems present in the 6.1.63-current-meson64 kernel. It seems only the V4L2 M2M API is present. Some firmware seems missing. I was getting "meson-vdec c8820000.video-codec: Direct firmware load for meson/vdec/gxl_h264.bin failed with error -2" in dmesg. I don't know what package I need to install. I was thinking maybe firmware-linux-nonfree, but that conflicts with armbian-firmware due to firmware-ralink. The files are available at https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-fi…

For the Beelink MiniMXIII II I used the meson-gxl-s905x-p212.dtb out of the box and it works great (100Mbit Ethernet and WIFI) For the X96 Max Plus I had to go to https://github.com/ophub/amlogic-s9xxx-armbian/releases and extract and use the meson-sm1-x96-max-plus.dtb file (Gbit Ethernet works but WIFI doesn't) For the Beelink GT1 I again extract and used (from https://github.com/ophub/amlogic-…

All the steps described by @SteeMan are fine. The details are the particularities of each TV BOX, in case of Brazil, the box are the low quality and price (the cheapest box of the market). I had many difficulties with a RUPA A9 Diamond with S912. Initially, the problem was the network, so I created new dtb´s files based in a post of someone. All the steps are described here: linux_variety/notes.txt at master · claudiosa/linux_variety · GitHub some steps to generate dtb and dts Later, the sound was not working, fortunately I tried some others dtb without the procedure describe above, i.e. without network. Fortunately, the first experiment with "MeCool K…

I have three questions: why does it stop working when I update the operating system? - The site of benchmark says that the s905w cpu has a speed of up to 2GHz, but my system does not speed up more than 1.2 GHz. And the last question: some of the images available on the site are installed on it, and some are not. The ones that work also stop working with the update. Of course, not with a single update, when it works for a week, you update it during the week, and from some point on, it will not boot again. This is because my device is fake?

Hi all, I've loaded Armbian 20.10 Arm_64 Bullseye 5.9.0 image on a X96(S912). No issues while loading the system, a prompt for login is presented, but it does not recognize any keyboard that I plugin. Tryed out via ssh but isn't possible to ping the server, so I believe ssh connection might not be automatically set. Maybe some one have an idea on how I can solve this issues. Thanks in advance.

  54. Hi. I'm out of my depth here, but I noticed that one of the official Armbian builds with platinum support is for the Khadas VIM1S, which has a S905Y4 SOC with 2GB of RAM. This is a similar configuration to many cheap Android TV boxes. According to some sources I can find, the S905W2 is also in the same family as the S905Y4 (Amlogic NE S4). Both are also supported by Coreelec, although I understand that Coreelec DTB's can't be used with Armbian. What would be involved in porting Armbian from the VIM1S to S905Y4/S905W2 TV boxes? Is this likely to work, and where could I start? Thanks!

  57. Hello, I’m working on an s905x3 Armbian system, and having issues with an intermittent watchdog: The hardware watchdog: Meson GXBB Watchdog I’ve got the watchdog service installed. Expected behaviour, happens 4/5 times: when I kill the watchdog service, it starts wd_keepalive, which keeps on pinging the watchdog. Kill wd_keepalive and after a few seconds the device power cycles, as is expected. But sometimes that doesn’t happen, and the device just continues running. The watchdog device is also then writable (which it usually isn’t, due to being kept busy by the above processes) I’ve found this because sometimes the device doesn’t power cycle after…

I'm interested in installing Armbian on it and I'm wondering which version of Armbian and Linux kernel would be most suitable. Last time I attempted this, there were issues with the RTL8821CU driver, specifically for an older Android Linux kernel, around version 4.9. I've come across this URL (https://github.com/ophub/amlogic-s9xxx-armbian/issues/269), suggesting more recent kernel versions now support the wifi chip. Can anyone confirm this, or recommend a version where there are no longer issues? …

Hi all, I just managed to install Armbian to my Minix Neo U1 on sd card. I read the faq and found that installing on eMMC is better than on sd card because eMMC is faster and more durable. Now I'm curious that if I'm booting from eMMC: 1. How can I boot from sd card again? Just in case something's wrong with the eMMC etc. 2. Can I still use a blank sd card for storage? Or there shouldn't be an sd card attached because it will try to boot from sd card? Thank you

It helps to understand the bootloader sequence, u-boot sequence and gives you root access.

I have an x96 mini, first generation possibly, 1GB RAM 8GB Storage. I wanted to use it to create a linux process that would be running 24/7. The focal image that was release a while ago and was linked on one of the yandex drives works fine, from usb. 98. I have an M8 S802 box that I am trying to install armbian to. I am using 5,44 Ubuntu bionib 3.10.108 server. I can boot with the SD card, but when I try to install to emmc I get a message saying cannot parse config file '/etc/fw_env.config' invalid argument at the end of install. After this, the TV box will only boot from SD. I tried copying the fw_env.config file from my backup of android, but I still get the same results.
