After some frustration with poor support for Banana Pi M2 Zero board by the manufacturer and not a very active community on Banana Pi forums, I stumbled upon Armbian and found out there's a CSC for building Armbian for this board. And because I'm having issues with wifi on the images found on Banana forums, with all images being old and based on kernel 3.4 -- wifi disconnects with some weird firmware errors in dmesg after about 3 minutes of running, requiring reboot to get back up again -- I was happy to read Armbian runs fine on BPI-M2Z for some folks here. So I did the build process, twice, so that I have two images to test, one with kernel 4.19 and one with 5.1, b…

Hi. I am digging many things with armbian so I install fresh armbian and many applications so many times. So I am making a long script to install many applications and edit many configuration. When it asked "Yes/On" on text prompt, I use "#echo yes | apt install vim". It works well. But when I install samba, it ask text prompt "yes/no" at first and then with dialog box "yes/no". So I tried "#echo yes | echo no | apt install samba". But it doesn't work. How can I send "yes/no" to dialog box in bash shell??

I just upgraded my Linux Mint from 22.2 to 22.3 "Zena" ... [ Unsupported build system: 'zena' ] I know that Mint 22.3 was released just last month, but I needed something in the new Linux kernel. Hi, I've some issues regarding apt pinning, which I've used for a year now without problems, after doing a clean install to Armbian_5.70_Tinkerboard_Debian_stretch_next_4.19.14. I've figured out that installing only locales from testing (2.28-4) over (2.24-11+deb9u3) kills armbian-ramlog.service as seen below in spoiler 1, which again seems to cause problems for other packages as Nginx. Hello, Like it happened to @Grogorio in 2016, I need to introduce a boot delay on my OrangePi Zero Plus (Armbian 23.02.2 Focal) to allow time for other network elements in my setup to boot. As per what I have read somewhere, this can done by adding a 'boot_delay=n' line in /boot/config.txt, however I don't see this file in Armbian; I've also tried to add the line, but it does not seems to be working. Furthermore, the max delay that can be setup there is 10 seconds, but I need a longer delay. Can someone help? TIA

About a year ago I reported the kswapd0 running out of control on OPi PC and Igor, after couple of tries made it behave. Today, I got OPi One loaded with the latest 5.26 Ubuntu D/T and the OPi PC2 with today's daily Ubuntu D/T and both demonstrated the following behaviour when pressed for memory: Specifically, running a "make -j2", when the available RAM got below 38000, the kswapd0 started getting more cpu time and eventually everything stopped waiting for disk I/O (80% wa displayed in "top"). Interestingly, not a single byte of swap storage was used. I tried different combinations of programs and everything worked fine until the demands on RAM got the available RAM …

Not sure if this is beginner or advanced, so I guess I'll start here. I have a "le potato" I recently bought. Getting it working has been a nightmare, but I'm almost there. Right now my project is to get a 32x64 RGB matrix working using an adafruit hat. I got Armbian 22.02.1 Focal running on it, and I'm using the gpiod library. I've had to write my own access library, but I've almost got it working, translating the pin labels ("7J1 Header Pin15") to the appropriate GPIO/offset values for use with gpiod. Except for exactly one. I try to use request_line on GPIO 22 (chip 0, offset 10) and it gives me an invalid argument. Doesn't do t…

I have recently installed armbian on odroid c2. -The burning the armbian image using etcher.io was surprisingly easy and agreeable -gui bringup with a default desktop was agreeable too. ovo.fyi/lorem-ipsumovo.fyi/emp-mailovo.fyi/10-minute-mail -the kernel version is more recent 4.14+ -the support for mali gpu seemed to announced on this version BUT the responsiveness from the web browser, the responsiveness from the media players was choppy. The Task manager in debian buster shows the cpu and memory is not always on 100% although xfce is very slow. How can i fix this? Can it be cause i use a few years old 64gb samsung micro sd? If it's because the cubietruck is too old and slow can you recommend another newer much faster system?

Hello, Armbian devs, I have customized a kernel for an existing Armbian system. I wish I can replace the kernel on the system directly without going throught Armbian build system. According to what Martinayotte told me, there are 3 symbolic link to kernel image, dtbs, and uInitrd actually to boot. While I have done first 2, and I know that I have to do "mkimage" to generate a u-boot compatible uinitrd for sure. But... How can I produce the original initramfs, first? I trace the log of Armbian build system and found out it's generated by update-iniramfs command. But the environment is wiped out after it's done. I'm not sur…

I'm spending some time on one of those famous Q8 tv boxes (ENY Q8, VSmart Q8, etc...) which sports the rk3288 soc I started with recent u-boot and kernel releases. Rockchip provides a recent u-boot (late 2017) and an LTS 4.4 kernel on their rockchip-linux github account. I compiled u-boot (from here) using a the device tree source from DengueTim (available here, in arch/arm/boot/dts/rk3288-q8.dts). I had to enable the serial driver though, because the device tree is "kernel flavour", instead u-boot wanted explicitly the serial port in "chosen" section. Compilation goes fine and u-boot boots from the SD card, prints Model, Ram and MMC infos on …

Long story short, I accidentally removed all the contents of the /boot folder 😢. I'm running minimal Armbian 24.5.1 Bookworm with Linux 6.1.43-vendor-rk35xx on Orange pi 5 plus. It all started with a failed apt update indicating there wasn't enough space in the boot partition. The update was trying to install 6.1.75-vendor-rk35xx kernel, so I decided to remove the old one from the boot to free up some space. Instead, I accidentally applied 'rm -r' to the entire /boot folder. My SBC is working fine now, but I'm afraid it won't boot on next restart, so I'm looking for a way to recover the files. So far, I performed apt upgrade, which put the new…

Hi, I have an issue that is irritating me, and I'm not sure what to do about it. So on the Helios64 page (I am also using it with the Kobol enclosure), they give you a simple command like this to use: picocom -b 1500000 /dev/ttyUSB0 This is so you can access a serial TTY without an Internet connection. My problem is that the "window size" is set back to 80x24 characters. I'm not sure why this happens. I've also noticed that it somehow sets "TERM=linux" instead of what I have in my host PC's "$TERM" which is "xterm-256color" Is this by design, or is there something strange going on that I don't understand…

Hello guys I am looking for any help or hint on how to start the work stated in the title: Porting Audioinjector Pi SoundCard overlay from Raspbian to Armbian. I would like to use the card on OrangePi platform based on because H3 SoC has all required hardware: I2C, SPI, I2S(?). The code I found is in Raspbian github repository https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/tree/3f53e7886737a975e3fe76bc8ae6cc78f33c8cf8/sound/soc/bcm. As far as I see, the sound card driver is based on WM8731 codec and it is using on BCM SoC I2S interface.. Can I use the similar I2S interface on Sunxi SoC? Does current mainline linux allow me to do this port at all? …

Hi, I am using my armbian board to create an access point. I have noticed that WPS is always active by default and users are, especially on WIndows, prompted to enter the WPS PIn in order to connect to the WIFI instead of the pass phrase. I have checked wpa_supplicant.conf which looks like is controlled by dbus <!DOCTYPE busconfig PUBLIC "-//freedesktop//DTD D-BUS Bus Configuration 1.0//EN" "http://www.freedesktop.org/standards/dbus/1.0/busconfig.dtd"> <busconfig> <policy user="root"> <allow own="fi.w1.wpa_supplicant1"/> <allow send_destination="fi.w1.wpa_su…

Hi all, I am trying to bring up a new board that uses both Allwinner H616 emacs, the 1Gbps (emac0) and the 10/100Mbps w/internal phy (emac1). I brought in all patches found about that, but it looks like the emac1 does not work properly. It does not reset, this is what I found in the dmesg: [ 2.228695] dwmac-sun8i 5030000.ethernet: EMAC reset timeout As per the datasheet, the reg EMAC_BASIC_CTL1's LSB (SOFT_RST bit) is a bit that must set to 1 to reset, then automatically resets to 0 when the emac has finished the reset procedure. In my case, it remains 1 causing the kernel to unload emac1 driver. Anyone…

Hello, i am very new to using armbain. I picked up an orange pi lite and loaded armbain debain jessie using etcher on a 16gb card. when i install it to the orange pi lite and power it on it asks me for a user name and password. i did as instructed using rot and 1234. then i added my name and made a new password as instructed. it then acts like its booting and says orange pi lite on the screen but wont boot the GUI desktop as it describes. it displays the name and some of the current states of the board (temp ect) but then sits at a command prompt waiting for input. i can type help and it will give me a list of commands that work for it but none indicate they will boot the…

So basically if I wish to backup the sd card after installing the Armbian OS, how would I do that? In raspbian we put the image to sd card using win32diskimager. To backup the sd card we can just read the data back to computer and name the img file. How can we do that in armbian at least the easy way? Why we can view raspbian image's folder from window? What I understand is linux use ext4 file format which window cannot recognise as with armbian sd card? Many Many thanks!!

I want to load my custom service to show orangepi zero as three devices on the host PC. But as the UDC ( /sys/class/udc/musb-hdrc.1.auto) is being used by another service which is probably the builtin service using udc to show orangepi as: Bus 001 Device 048: ID 0525:a4a7 Netchip Technology, Inc. Linux-USB Serial Gadget (CDC ACM mode) I want to disable that service so that my custom service can use the UDC for the required purpose. Hello, I got recently an Odroid HC2 and installed Armbian (Buster 5.4.61) on it, OMV5 and I fixed IP. I configured it on the cable that I use on my desktop and connected my desktop on wifi. When I finished the configuration, I put HC2 closer to router on another cable and connect my desktop on the cable that HC2 was connected. If I try to connect to SBC through Putty on the desktop with it connected on cable and wifi, I connect normally. But if I disconnect of wifi, I can't connect to SBC, even on Putty or browser. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

I use a currently fully updated Armbian on an ODROID-C2. I start tigervnc like this in /etc/crontab: @reboot linuxfan bash -lc 'vncserver -local host no' My ~/.vnc/xstartup: #!/bin/bash exec startxfce4 Everything works over VNC but gparted. Nothing would happen when I click on the menu entry. Hey all, I've been using Allwinner boards for the last couple of years and Armbian+forums have made this a workable thing that I promote to my friends as being The Way To Go instead of being a big fat waste of time. Igor + Tkaiser (and anyone else forgive me if I didn't give you a shout) - You fucking rock. You really do; you've all provided amazing amounts of support for multiple kernels and userspaces and in the face of (at least) bullshit from the chip vendors, yet you are absolutely crucial to them being taken seriously. The work from Armbian has (for me) made the difference between BananaPi, OrangePi, etc all being an unusable washout of #ShitDidn'tW…

I recently reinstall my Tinkerboard with Focal Desktop to start over. I installed xrdp in armbian-config, and RDPed in, there was no wallpaper, no desktop icon, no mouse icon and windows I opened looks weird (but xfce taskbar shows up) I came to the conclusion that it has something to do with auto login, so a quick google leads me to this instruction, I commented the line in "/etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/22-armbian-autologin.conf" out, reboot, and the RDP environment works great. Except now there is lightdm-gtk-greeter process in the background that is taking 100% CPU usage in full clock speed, the board became hot (>70 degree Celsius) very quickly. …

Hi All. As you may have read at my HDMI post, I have tried two different OpiPC images, the default one here, and the current RetrorangePi. Then I tried the retro image and went back to do the same process, but no matter what I do I can't see to get rid of error messages. I've tried to put ARCH=ARM and arm. I've tried TARGET=LINUX. Hello dear armbianites, I'm trying to make the hc1 optimization for the odroid HC2 board permanent, every time the kernel is updated, armbiam loses the optimization and an admin action is needed to apply the optimization again via ambianconfig > System DTB > optimized board configuration, followed by a reboot. Hello, I have an Odroid N2+ on Armbian 23.02 Bullseye. I wish to upgrade to Bookworm. Initially I expected to do the upgrade after the update to Armbian 23.05 via apt but I tend to think we will have directly 23.08 without 23.05 I won't ask for the date when we will have 23.05 but has someone upgraded to Bookworm with Armbian 23.05? I know this kind of upgrade is not officially supported but as I made it from Buster to Bullseye I have the same project for Bookworm. But I am not sure Bookworm and Armbian 23.05 are really compatible.
