New user here Quick question re: the "Install to eMMC" script detailed in the getting started guide here: https://docs.armbian.com/User-Guide_Getting-Started/#how-to-install-to-emmc-nand-sata-usb Does it put a fresh install of Armbian onto the eMMC? or Does it move the configured install from the SD card to the eMMC? The situation is that I have a live home server which is in use by the family all the time but is playing up a little so i was going to re-install it. Rather than take it offline and configure the board all in one go which would take a while. I wondered if i could boot from a new SD card and configure it as needed (over a f…

when I tried to install Armbian (Armbian_23.8.1_Lepotato_bookworm_current_6.1.50.img.xz) on my Le Potato, it asked me to enter the desired value of the TZ environment variable when I chose not to set the timezone automatically. however I am confused with what is a valid Posix timezone string. here are my attempts: Please enter the desired value of the TZ environment variable. For example, AEST-10 is abbreviated AEST and is 10 hours ahead (east) of Greenwich, with no daylight saving time. UTC 'UTC' is not a conforming Posix timezone string. Using latest freshly installed Armbian_21.05.1_Orangepipc2_buster_current_5.10.34, then went to armbian-config and installed kernel headers. There were no errors so I thought they now should be there, butl /usr/src is still empty. There is also nothing in the system logs that would indicate an error in installing them. Many thanks for any help.

I have a unique hardware setup with an ARMv8 architecture but a 32-bit 'armeabi-v7a' ABI. My goal is to install a 64-bit operating Ambian (or others, even a 64 bit Android Go if possible) system on this hardware, replacing the existing 32-bit setup. The device is a kids tablet ZIDS701 by Trayoo. The current OS is Android Go 10 32-bit. I'm kind of a newbie to firmware, so I'm reaching out to the knowledgeable members of this community for guidance and assistance in achieving this. I'm particularly interested in recommendations for a 64-bit OS that would be compatible with this setup and any steps or considerations I should be aware of during the installation process. …

I'm trying to follow the Armbian Quick Start Guide, specifically the section "How to install to eMMC, NAND, SATA & USB?". It says to run nand-sata-install and I'll be able to choose to set up to "boot from eMMC / NAND, system on SATA / USB", which is what I want (to boot from NAND and have the system on USB). What I get on screen though is not what I expect. I see a menu that has two option 1. Boot from SD - system on SATA, USB or NVMe 5. Install/Update the bootloader on SD/eMMC Why don't I get the option to set up to boot from NAND (which I guess might be option 3, going by the documentation)? cubieboard 2, …

Hi, I'd like to install to USB storage as the eMMC card I have is quite small. As stated in the documentation https://docs.armbian.com/User-Guide_Getting-Started/#how-to-install-to-emmc-nand-sata-usb It appears to be quite simple but my question is, I already have everything installed and running, with the software I need etc. Will this pose an issue or should I re-flash and do it straight away? Thanks!

I have been trying to install a minimal XFCE4 desktop environment onto my Orange Pi Zero 2+ H5 but have run into a weird issue. I am looking to build a stable applicance that is updateable on demand / over-the-air in an atomic way. Ideally, it uses a dual-partition setup, where the is an active rootfs and an inactive one. On update, a new rootfs is streamed directly to the inactive partition, the device reboots to the new rootfs and - if everything runs according to plan - the new rootfs is committed as the new active one. If the reboot fails, the device reverts to the previous (still active) rootfs. This functionality is very common with embedded devices, many using the Yocto project. I'd like to try to use Armbian, however, building the image from source with my own userpatches and i…

Hi I installed the official release on my Z83 mini PC and it boots up great, but when I go to install to the emmc it fails at the U-Boot generation step with the error below. "Error while creating U-Boot loader image with mkimage" "Error: no u-boot package found, exiting." Thank you in advance for any help.

Hi, Just something I have found, not sure if this is an 'issue' but it definitely caught me out and took a while to figure out and fix. I have several armbian machines (Odroid C2, BananaPi Pro) all running Jessie or Stretch and all working fine. A recent project of mine (using Armbian on a BPi Pro) was to build a Pi-Hole DNS. Some time after doing that I noticed that none of the Armbian machines would successfully run 'apt update' whilst other unix machines including a RPi running raspbian were all fine. DNS config was fine, I could see requests hit the Pi-Hole and be answered. nslookup / dig on the armbian machines all worked fine b…

When attempting to install microk8s, I noticed that the `ip_tables` module is missing from the provided image (Ubuntu 24.04 (Noble) Minimal / IOT image) on this page: https://www.armbian.com/radxa-dragon-q6a/ Easy way to replicate: ``` sudo modprobe ip_tables modprobe: FATAL: Module ip_tables not found in directory /lib/modules/6.18.0-rc6-edge-qcs6490 ``` Is there another image that has this module are part of the kernel or do I need to build the kernel myself? This seems like a module that should be included for an image that is labeled as `IOT`.

Hi, As I can see on latest kernel for beta/trunk Armbian: https://imola.armbian.com/beta/pool/main/l/linux-6.18.6/linux-image-current-meson64_26.2.0-trunk.281_arm64__6.18.6-Sb6fe-D8ec8-Pe0be-C7d3eH1ff9-HK01ba-Ve377-Bc630-R448a.deb There is no module ip_tables (should be under /lib/modules/6.18.6-current-meson64/kernel/net/ipv4/netfilter/), so iptables does not work: "modprobe: FATAL: Module ip_tables not found in directory /lib/modules/6.18.6-current-meson64" Is this intentional? Thank you!

Hello. It seems there is an issue with iptables in the 6.18.10-current-meson64 kernel. I can't start Docker because of this. ``` ~# iptables -L modprobe: FATAL: Module ip_tables not found in directory /lib/modules/6.18.10-current-meson64 iptables v1.8.11 (legacy): can't initialize iptables table `filter': Table does not exist (do you need to insmod?) Perhaps iptables or your kernel needs to be upgraded. ``` As I run a docker version 28.X.X, it does not support nftable. (Cannot upgrade at the moment). What can I do to solve the problem ? Thanks

Hi. I'm using Armbian Jessie(Legacy) on Cubietruck. My cubietruck's cpu temp. is aruond 77~79. Is it too hot? If it is, how can I lower the temperature? One more thing to ask. Hey, I basically need the LXC Kernel modul for the lxccu homematic software. Is this already included in the newer kernel drivers for the available debian or do I need armbian? I'm not 100% sure what the differences for armbian and debian are? Could someone explain that to me? thx! Cheers Btw: Is the Allwinner R8(m) also supported? I'm just starting to build up the community for the $9 computer CHIP which uses this processor. Would be great to have some more ways in building kernels. I really need to config my own kernel there to included touch screen drivers. Is this possible with the armbian too?

Hi, i'd like to know if it's possible to disable the first run wizard (set up of root password, timezone locale etc) via armbian build framework? I have build my own image, and set the parameter DEST_LANG="de_DE.UTF-8" , but still the wizard shows up after flashing and asks me for the locale. Can i do this type of customization in the customize-image.sh? (sorry if that's a too stupid or obvious question). This is my customize-image.sh script (i have truncated it). #!/bin/bash # arguments: $RELEASE $LINUXFAMILY $BOARD $BUILD_DESKTOP # # This is the image customization script # NOTE: It is copied to /tmp directory inside the image # and executed…

I am trying to download img files of orange pi5 plus, and none works now.

I am building a custom image for rpi4b and everything works great so far. I only want to customize the installed packets and configuration, but I do not need a custom kernel. Since building the kernel is what takes by a wide margin most of the image generation time, I was wondering if there's a way to build the image without building the kernel (using the one from the official builds). I have browsed the documentation and found no way, so maybe it is not supported and building the kernel is mandatory?

Hi is it possible to build only armbian system and use it with pre-built kernel and u-boot? I would try to use armbian in a custom board with kernel and bootloader I have already built in a local directory What should I pass to BUILD_ONLY to build only armbian system and how to set it together with my u-boot and image? Thanks Riccardo

I wonder if a port is possible and/or feasible, if it is, where can I check? I tried searching on documentations for a guide on how to start a port, but couldn't find anything. If I remember correctly, xiaomi-elish hardware is very related to xiaomi-alioth, to the point of some of the code for PMOS being shared, obviously each hardware has it's quirks but, I think it's possible, i do have the device for testing, and I have some knowledge of programming, but I can learn more in the process.

I think webrtc is a very interesting feature for such devices. Unfortunately , I only saw a drive ( UV4L : https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=105019) for Raspberry Pi2/Pi3 in linux. Does somebody here have any idea to cross-compile native webrtc source code for such a device ? Regards ! GuoFu Han

Hello, very now to Linux and Armbian and have a BIGTREETECH PAD 7 (a BIGTREETECH CB1 with built in screen https://github.com/bigtreetech/Pad7/blob/master/BIGTREETECH Pad 7 v1.0 User Manual.pdf ). I would really like to be able to run old-school Doom on it and was wondering if someone could tell me if it is possible, and then point me in the right direction of a noob-friendly tutorial if it is possible. Thank you for taking the time to read.

Hi, I'm using raspberrypi ili9488 GPIO LCD (Image here) and I was able to make it working with notro's fbtft drivers and it works fine. What I am trying to do now is to control the backlight or just turn it on and off inside my application with a linux command or for example by turning on and off a GPIO pin but I was not successful. Turning on a off the +5v and +3.3v did turn the whole lcd of and when I turned it back on it did not work and I had to restart the system. I managed to control the backlight by using a transistor on the lcd board backlight power pin but it was not so practical as it needed a lot of time and what we do is producing more than 1000 product ea…

I like Guix system. I really like it on my desktop, so now I want to use Guix system as the OS for my Orange Pi 5 Pro as well. The problem is, the Arm distro for Guix System is only available for Generic EFI and I didn't have the money to buy a Orange Pi 6 Plus. But I figure, why not install Armbian on SD card and have it boot Guix System on the SSD? Is that possible and if so, how would I achieve that? So far I've been able to 'dd' the guix system install ISO onto the SSD. It seems to have an iso9660 filesystem.

Hello everyone. This is my first post here. My background is software development but not very experienced in the Linux SBC world. So, I have 2x Radxa Zero 3W (not listed on Armbian) with a Rockchip 3566 MCU. And here the questions start... - why don't the Orange Pi 3B or Quartz 64B Armbian images, with the same MCU, don't work on the Radxa Zero 3W ? Aka, shouldn't an OS be portable ? I'm not expecting such of Windows, but I did expect it from Linux - what do the loaders contain exactly ? I have this situation where an older loader seems to boot with Armbian (and then shuts down) but a newer one doesn't... yet the older one doesn't work with the OS from Radxa …

Last time I tried to update to Buster I noticed OpenMediaVault had issues (due to missing repos I think). But now that OMV 5 has been (apparently) released it should be a non issue upgrading to Buster. Has anyone had isssues upgrading to Buster with OpenMediaVault installed as of recently? When I power down H3-devices I see quite different results. Normally I use 'sudo poweroff' which should behave like 'shutdown -P'. I guess the command was successfull when the last message on the serial console reads "Power down." This works with Legacy Images. Power consumption drops significantly. On the NEO and OPi Zero to somewhat 150 mW, NEO Air 250 mW. To my surprise the Orange Pi One drops even to 0 mW. Question 1: Why is that? Is it different voltage regulators, or are parts of some boards purposefully kept powered on? Testing Mainline Images things are more simple: I never even reach the "power down"-target, the sys…

As the title suggests I would like to know, if it is possible to use the Armbian designed for the Allwinner H6 (Orange Pi Lite 2) for the Allwinner H616 (Orange Pi Zero 2). I assume the differences between them might not be that big. Is it useable, if not, why is this the case. What could happen when I try to use it with the H616? Thank you very much in advance Ferry

Hello, I've copied the Armbian Bionic image onto an SD card (and verified it) and put it into my new Orange Pi Zero LTS 256 MB. I already have experience with Raspberry Pis and Raspbian for a few years, so this isn't entirely new to me. While I was trying to establish a stable network connection (wired and wireless), I misinterpreted some "host not reachable" as "network failed" when instead other issues existed. In the process, I unplugged the power a few times after the device has booted up but wasn't reachable via the network. Only then I connected the serial console and investigated further. There I found out that it wasn't actually booting any…

I been running my own images with great success thanks to rock solid build environment but one thing that catches me by surprise every now and then is that updating the system can also overwrite my custom kernel, which is is far from ideal. Up until now I been issuing an apt hold command for the packages but I was thinking maybe there is a better way. Because even with the hold in place if I don't pay close attention and do an apt dist-upgrade for example they will still be replaced despite the hold. Is there a better way to prevent my kernels from being updated by the stock kernel? Cheers!

Hi I would like to add Armbian version to banner after login (eg. v5.10) to be sure that I'm using latest version. Is this value stored somewhere in the filesystem? I already checked: /proc/version /etc/debian_version /etc/os-release but it's not there. I found it in /etc/armbian.txt but this is plain text file and parsing it to fetch the value is a little overkill. Is there a better place where I can find it?

Hi, I am having problem with overscan on orangepipc on my car display. https://goo.gl/photos/19v3Ji2cAUMsLwoV6 Left border is cropped by 32 pixels and bottom is cropped by 52px. Resolution is 800x480 configured with h3disp -m 31. Running self-build Armbian with ubuntu xenail on legacy kernel (3.4.113-sun8i). I want to crop or scale my desktop so it will fit the screen. Hi, I run a wireguard server in my home. I have a Mac and a couple of iOS devices that can successfully connect to the server, my internet traffic is routed via the home wireguard server and I can access devices in my home network using an address like 192.168.178.200. I am using Armbian 21.05.1 running the legacy kernel as I wish to use the ISP camera support from the RK3399 media framework. After porting the devicetree for my camera, all drivers are working except for the actual ISP1 driver, which seems to not be built into the kernel: grep ROCKCHIP_ISP1 /boot/config-4.4.213-rk3399 # CONFIG_VIDEO_ROCKCHIP_ISP1 is not set Looking through the kernel config for this family (linux-rockchip64-legacy.config), CONFIG_VIDEO_ROCKCHIP_ISP1 is set, and this appears to be the case in the sources installed from armbian-config. I am rather new to Armbian so I'm not quite sure what's the issue here. Would be much appreciated if someone …

my ISP blocks port 80 so I need to use something like port 82 for a server I want to run from my house. In the ISPConfig control panel there is a setting under Sites -> Webdomain -> Options where one can change the http and https ports but that does not seem to do the trick. On one experiment I chanaged the listening ports in the nginx config but then none of the things like wordpress would run once installed. So what is the 'correct' way to change the listening port for all servers on an Armbian box running ISPConfig / NGINX installed from armbian-config? It works great but I break it every time I try to fix the port issue by instructions I'…

Hello, I compiled a little GUI application using Qt for my Orangepi One, Running Armbian 5.41 (Mainline) . However, when executing I get the following error message: libEGL warning: DRI2: failed to authenticate I figured this was related to the graphics driver. However Mesa is running fine with the glxgears -info test showing up normally and rendering just fine. I didn't see anything unusual in glxinfo either. I found this https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/61078/qt-applications-dont-work-due-to-libegl and symlinked the library files, but the proposed fix is not working for me. Do you guys have any ideas?

Armbianmonitor: http://ix.io/3zoC I am using a NanoPi R1S-H3 that runs on the Allwinner-H3 CPU: https://www.friendlyarm.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=274. I flashed a copy of Armbian 21.08.1, Buster current 5.10.60 for the NanoPi R1, which has a similar H3 chip. The R1S-H3 has an onboard SDIO Wi-Fi card that requires the RTL8189ES drivers, which I have loaded in already. Unfortunately, I am unable to use the Wi-Fi card on the device. I did notice an error: "mmc2: error -22 while initializing SDIO card" which might be the cause. However, I am not too sure on how to go about resolving it. Any suggestions? Thanks in advanc…

Hi, i am using a tinkerboard s to run pihole, wireguard and a maria database. It worked quite a while without any issues. Just after I had to start over with the tinkerboard, the issues began. I have to open the pihole admin webpage first, just then I am able to get a normal internet connection. That works then without issues until another restart. I addressed my issue already in the pihole forum and the moderator suggested to ask here since in his opinion it might be an issue with the privacy extension of IPv6. So I just got my Orange Pi Prime board today and I tried the Ubuntu Bionic desktop image on it. (Armbian 20.02.3 Bionic current 5.4.18 desktop) Things didn't go like I expected... Dears, I have recently posted several issues wrt. OPi0+. GPIO (sysfs), armbian-config (bug confirmed by Igor), WiFi AP, GPIO event handling. Except for GPIO, where high activity is going on, I cannot find anything in "GitHub-issues" about the other problems, I have raised. I therefore would like to know, what would be the right place to rise issues? Here in the forum, or in GitHub? I mean "issues", not "how tos"
