  1. Good afternoon, I have just started studying the use of embedded arm linux for single-board computers. I'm asking for help from experienced developers. I have an orange pi lite. I uploaded a prebuild minimal armbian image to the microsd card: Armbian_community_25.5.0-trunk.444_Orangepilite_bookworm_current_6.12.23_minimal.img.xz .After that, I installed mate desktop environment according to these instructions: https://forum.armbian.com/topic/28786-install-mate-desktop-to-minimal-image-blues/. The problem is that the processor heats up very much under load (I registered a temperature of 95 degrees celsius using armbianmonitor) and periodically turns off due to overheating.…

  2. I'm currently in the process of deciding between the Orange Pi 3B and the Raspberry Pi 4, and i'd love to hear your thoughts. I know that Raspberry Pi has a huge community and a ton of resources, which is super appealing for someone like me who's looking to learn and tinker. The support from the community is definitely a big selling point, especially since I'm just starting out. That said, l'm also considering the Orange Pi because it's much more affordable. The price difference is hard to ignore and l have heard it's a pretty solid option for DlY projects and development. Plus, l'm thinking ahead - l might want to stick with Orange Pi for future projects as well, sin…

I thought that wasn't much until I tried to open Chromium, the whole window was white and I couldn't interact with it. Greetings, I set up an an armbian build environment, and went through the initial build, which took some time. Subsequent rebuilds took a couple hours as well, and I discovered I could 'skip' rebuilding the kernel unless I wanted to build it. Now, I'm testing customize-image.sh, things aren't always going where I want. so, I troubleshoot, make changes, but now my minimum build time is 30-40 minutes. Is there something else I can do to speed up the process?

Just installed Armbian on a Rock Pi4 to run OMV as a nas. I have a desktop installed. Install went OK but I have a weird problem, the menu has a different language for some items. Items in the main menu that have sub-groups have the other language, not sure what it is, possibly Cyrillic, but the sub-groups are in English. So, for instance, under accessorioes, accessories is not english but everything in its pop-up menu is. I've set the locale and language to GB, I'm in the UK but the menu doesn';t change.

  33. Howdy, everyone! My apologies if this answer is available elsewhere, but I haven't been able to find it. I'm trying to better understand Armbian's policy toward closed-source components. Discussions on closed-components often times get confusing because "component" is overloaded, so I'm separating "components" into several categories: 1. Firmware/microcode that is loaded into hardware but never executed by the operating system itself 2. Drivers that operate in kernel space (often called "binary blobs") 3. Software that runs in user space 4. Firmware for "autonomous subsystems" or "coprocessors" like the Intel Management Engine or ThreadX on the Ra…

  36. The usual way to get the a headless linux box up and running is to flash a disk image to a µSD card and then insert that card into the linux box, boot, answer some questions and it's done. Can I not do the same thing with an image file that I put on the µSD card (in addition to the µSD card having a complete linux OS that the box can boot from) and copy that to the emmc? Then pull the card and boot from the emmc? Does the image file used for a µSD card differ from the image file that should be written to the emmc? e.g. I have an armbian image, say "Armbian_25.2.2_Rockpi-s_bookworm_current_6.12.15_minimal.img.xz", on my µSD card at /media/…

How can I avoid this reboot prompt, and just proceed with the reboot immediately? e.g. the Raspberry Pi OS raspi-config tool allows for the nonint parameter to be passed: raspi-config nonint enable_overlayfs The intent is to automate enabling of the read-only fs. 38. If you've tried hardware video on an Allwinner A733 (Orange Pi 4 Pro, Radxa A7Z), you've probably hit this: there's no V4L2 decoder, and omxh264dec advertises video/x-raw(memory:DMABuf) but aborts in gst_omx_video_dec_negotiate if you actually ask for it. So everyone falls back to videoconvert ! ximagesink and burns ~1.8 CPU cores on 1080p. The vendor OMX component reports the proprietary colour format 0x7f000002 through a malformed port-format enumeration, so gst-omx can't build a negotiation map. You can chase that a long way. Don't. libOmxVdec.so is a wrapper over libvdecoder.so, and that lower library is what actually owns the decode surfaces. VideoPicture.n…

  42. Hello! I bought an Orange Pi PC about two years ago which is still working perfectly to this day (very happy with it), but I am curious to know what would be considered the 'best' Single Board Computer at this time point time, which would be around the same price range ($15 USD). 'Best' being defined as having a decent processor, and good software support - which the Orange Pi PC eventually did. I'm tempted to just buy another one of these for another project, but interested to know. Again, the main factor is price - $15 USD or less would be ideal.

  53. Hi, First post here. I'm fairly new with Armbian. I have a LibreComputer Le Potato that I want to use for Home Assistant. To avoid all the hassle of setting up Home Assistant with docker, I used the Armbian imager to install the Armbian 26.2.1 Home Assistant on an SD card. Once the SD card was flashed, I put it into the Le Potato board. The board starts up fine, asks for the root password, creates a new user and so on. Later on, the Preparing Home Assistant Supervised window appears. However, after the first round to 100% I get a "RTNETLINK answers: Invalid argument" on the screen. The preparation goes on and on, moving the progress bar ove…

I follow the instruction like in this link and it worked in Rpi: http://askubuntu.com/questions/597546/iwconfig-wlan0-txpower-30mw-not-working I modified the country of BO to 30 from db.txt so I get 30dbm signal for testing purpose. When I have done all the proceedure in Opi PC and reboot I try to type " iw reg set BO" ,nothing happened - it still stayed at 00 which is the default country set. It also appears that when I type "iwconfig wlan0 channel 13" it then changed the country to China. And by then I can change the country BO by typing the "iw reg set BO" again. When…

After my last update on my radxa5-ITX, apart from the name changes of the NIC (related?), I remarked that I could not cryptroot-unlock the root partition because of dm_mod apparently missing from initramfs. Inspecting the boot partition, cat config-6.1.115-vendor-rk35xx | grep DM_CRYPT CONFIG_DM_CRYPT=m the kernel seems to have been compiled with the proper option and lsinitramfs initrd.img-6.1.115-vendor-rk35xx | grep 'usr.*cryptsetup' usr/lib/aarch64-l…

I believe it's caused because transmission starts before network goes online. I tried to fix it by adding into /lib/systemd/system/transmission-daemon.service [unit] ... Then you'll need to use the closed-source firmware-upgrading CLI utility that Micron publishes. There is a version for linux, but it's AMD64 only. You might think you can put the M2 drive in a USB-3.0 enclosure, then firmware upgrade it in that enclosure…

(specifically, DTS changes) I went into the kernel source, and created a diff, and put it in the user customized patches directory. Unfortunately, the patch failed. So, I dug into it, and discovered the source changes because of patches in the armbian patches/ directory. So, instead I started the build, let these patches apply,, and aborted the build. Then I created the diff again. Sadly, the patch is still being rejected. Now, I might be able to fight with this, and make it work. But the next time I pull a new update it could be broken a…

  97. Hello! I follow instruction "Add names of overlays you want to activate to overlays= line in /boot/armbianEnv.txt" I try to find /boot/armbianEnv.txt but nothing. I see Build tools overview from https://github.com/armbian/build/blob/fcb8b6f195bbb76c83c612c425fdf08cfd48c68b/README.md And nothing about /boot/armbianEnv.txt May be documentation talking about build/config/bootenvrockchip.txt and build/config/zynq.txt and others txt files in build/config/ ? It looks like /boot/armbianEnv.txt is file on microSD after I burn armbian image on it. But reading docs I don't understand nothing about build/config/bootenv/rockchip.txt

  100. Glad to say creating virtual machine and getting Armbian build environment and running ./compile.sh was easy and successful for bananapim1plus / 6.1 kernel / jammy. Created SD card and booted and is running fine. Added DT overlay to enable spidev and got /dev/spidev0.0 as expected. Got new version of cross compiler to build code I formerly ran on fedora image and the SPI driver behaves differently. It pulses CS low for every transfer instead of optionally staying low for multiple transfers based on "cs_change" field in each transfer message. Found kernel source in build/cache/sources/linux-kernel-worktree/6.1__sunxi__armhf/drivers/spi, and tried editing there to begi…
