Hello I've previously build and deployed an armbian image for a pinecube using "bionic" which used kernel version 5.10.60. I have recently tried to build and deploy a new image, but the kernel is now 5.10.72 which wouldn't normally be a problem, but I have found that I've not been able to get gstreamer and some of it's dependacies installed. Is it possible to specify a particular kernel version when I'm building an armbian image, in if so how do I do it? Thanks in advance Andrew

After installing Ubuntu Focal 20.08.17 (on Pine A64), I have noticed the following. Uninstalling unneeded packages with apt-get autoremove shows that the package python3-distro-info will be uninstalled. Can other users confirm this issue and can it be fixed when building the image?

Hello I have a 1440p (QHD, 2560x1440) monitor, but whatever I tried it was always giving me 1080p (1920x1080). I'm using Armbian 24.8.1 Noble Gnome and the resolution settings are in the Displays system panel. I noticed people who had similar problems on the Rock5b, the suggested solution did not work, but hinted to dtb files. After examining the /boot/dts tree of Armbian I found 3 files: /boot/dtb/rockchip/overlay/orangepi-5-plus-hdmi2-8k.dtbo /boot/dtb/rockchip/overlay/rock-5b-hdmi1-8k.dtbo and /boot/dtb/rockchip/overlay/rock-5b-hdmi2-8k.dtbo You can decompile the object file with the dtc command from the device-tree-compiler package…

I'm using the Openmediavault+ARMbian image provided by Tkaiser. When I go to armbian-config --> System there is no 'Install - installs to SATA, eMMC, NAND or USB' option (according ARMBian documentation it should be there ). Just checked at a Odroid HC1 and a Banana pi 1, both running the "same" Openmediavault+ARMbian ROM. They also don't have the option van 'Install' option available. @Igor, @tkaiser is this option moved to a different location? Or just not present for the Openmedivault+ARMbian combo?

Hi everybody I bought new low price barcode scanner to connect it to NanoPi M1 with Armbian Debian jessie (Desktop edition). I have a catastrophic problem with this new scanner. Scanner is working with my laptop properly but after connecting to NanoPi I found that it remove some digits from barcode text in scanning. I tried so many Scanner configuration but problem is go on! I tried this scanner on Cubieboard2 with Armbian too. I tested barcodes with another branded (higher price) scanner it have no problem. It scanned all 13 digits of goods bardcode. Scenario of problem: when no near duplicated digits apear (e.g. 1234567890123) in barcode string SCANNING …

I've just finished using the build tool to create an Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS (kernel 4.14.34-sunxi) image for this Orange Pi Zero, booted from SD, logged in, and everything was going fine. Then I: Added the following to /etc/modules: g_ether gadgetfs dummy_hcd Upon rebooting the board, my iMac Pro host popped up the UI from Parallels to ask me if I wanted it connected to the Mac or VM, then the machine kernel panicked. It panicked again upon reboot until I unplugged the board. I had zero panics before I made this change. I then inserted it into my MacBook Pro and that machine panicked as well. Here …

I am currently working on a Development Board based on RK3288. We are using Rockchip kernel as mentioned here https://github.com/rockchip-linux/kernel This uses libdrm (DRI) for its rendering purposes. But it has limitations. Only one CRTC is connected out of 2. It provides 8 planes, out of which only 4 are available for the working CRTC, out of which user available OVERLAY planes are only 2, and out of which only 1 Plane supports NV12 rendering. I need to show 2-4 videos simultaneously, can anyone help me here on how to procure more planes, particularly NV12 compatible OVERLAY type, that can be connected to the working CRTC?

Hi, I hope this is the right place to post this question. I just installed Armbian onto a Odroid XU4 and it looks great but I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out why I can't paste more than about 146 characters into the terminal. I'm logged in over SSH. I'm trying to create a text file by pasting the contents in from my mac's clipboard and every time it only pasts the last ~140 characters of the text. I've tried everything and searched everywhere and can't figure out where this is being limited. Any help would be greatly appreciated : ) Joel.

I must have some conflicting options, or my understanding of what these options do is wrong. Can someone help? I did a complete image build. Now, I just want to rebuild the kernel. ./compile.sh CLEAN_LEVEL="make" CREATE_PATCHES="yes" BOARD="bananapim2zero" BRANCH="legacy" RELEASE="buster" KERNEL_ONLY="yes" KERNEL_CONFIGURE="no" As I read the documentation, "make" in CLEAN_LEVEL indicates it will "make clean" in the uboot and linux sources. Hi. Working on orange pi 3. With the latest version of armbian (20.11.3), my eth0 network interface is not able to connect to network. If I deploy an old image (20.02.1), it works. As soon as I apt update and apt upgrade, reboot, the new armbian version shown becomes 20.11.3 again, and eth0 is not able to connect anymore : at startup, a long job runs with the message "A start job is running for Network Manager Wait Online" and after some times, fails with "Failed to start Network Manager Wait Online". As soon as I redeploy the old image, it's working again. I did not touch anything else from the fresh image, only apt install/upgrade. Is …

I have setup an Orange Pi Zero with the latest Armbian Stretch to use as an Open Media Vault server and a Pi-Hole (with the Pi-Hole being used as a DHCP server). I installed both from the armbian-config software menu with no problems. However these days I've been getting at random times a very strange issue. I have my Orange Pi Zero set with a static IP address since I am using the Pi-Hole software as a DHCP server for my home network, the problem is that at what seems like at random times it gets a different IP address without me touching anything, the IP is something in the style of 2XX.XXX.XXX.XXX instead of 192.168.1.20 that I have set as static from armbi…

I have a Nanopi R2s but this is generic to most boards without an inbuilt battery backed RTC. I have added a battery backed 1307 module on the I2C bus and gone through the process of getting it recogised and used. As far as it goes that's fine. The problem is the RTC is only read late in the boot process so the first part of the syslog record has incorrect date and time. Is there any way to force systemd to process the 1307 at the very start? I tried hacking the non-battery backed RTC script but it didn't take. Another option is to get the pre-systemd processes to read from the 1307 and set the inbuilt RTC before systemd starts using it? …

Trouble setting up lvm2. vgcreate wrong because drive order is not now the plugin order on hub according to dmeg. interchanged cables vs ports for out of order discovery and rebooted but problem unchanged ack dmesg. So how do I blow away the volume_group that does not get made due to this error, so I can re vgcreate a new lvm? An hour later, I have tried, rearranging cable vs ports on the hub but the rusty drive stays at /dev/sdd# when it was /dev/sdf# b4 everything was partitioned. What the heck is going on? Hi! Yesterday I get my first build of a NanoPi port of pi4j (http://pi4j.com/) running. A simple test with a double color led on a NanoPi M1 works fine. Actually I am going to adapt the board specific code. Hence some questions are open. Is there a simple way to differ NanoPi Boards by SW (NanoPi M1, Neo and Air) to set the correct board? Memory size of the board The Raspberry code uses the revision string of /proc/cpuinfo to retrieve this informations. But this info is PI specific. Any idea how to get this info? Using C is not a problem - pi4j is a mix of Java and native libraries. Peter P.S: Java Example File - …

Greetings, I'm attempting to apply a custom patch during the build process for a bananapi-m2-zero. (specifically, DTS changes) I went into the kernel source, and created a diff, and put it in the user customized patches directory. Unfortunately, the patch failed. So, I dug into it, and discovered the source changes because of patches in the armbian patches/ directory. So, instead I started the build, let these patches apply,, and aborted the build. Then I created the diff again. Sadly, the patch is still being rejected. Now, I might be able to fight with this, and make it work. But the next time I pull a new update it could be broken a…

Minor tweak. I don't have gethostname() (Actually I think that's a C function, not an executable.) Anyway my Rock64 didn't show up my wifi network by name. In /etc/dhcp/dhclient.conf I changed: #send host-name = gethostname(); send host-name = $HOSTNAME; Now it works. And $HOSTNAME is just whatever's in /etc/hostname so you may need to change it if you've got 2 or more machines of the same kind. I mostly lug around a cell phone and I can ftp or ssh to rock64 from anywhere in the house.

We were wondering what you strategies are concerning updating all relevant system parts (bootloader/kernel/application). Is there any reference implementation that anyone could recommend? We are following the trend of building "Murphy-compatible" (https://www.kernel.org/doc/ols/2005/ols2005v1-pages-21-36.pdf) update mechanisms, but are looking how it is best done. Application wise this can be fairly easy be done via docker - which we are using - but what mechanisms are used for the bootloader itself and the kernel. The should be an atomic update procedure an…

Hi. I am running OpenVPN, Samba and Plex with Armbian on my rockpis. I want to make a docker image from it. I am new to docker and I searched and found that I could make an image from Docker file or commiting in a container. I thought that commiting in container was easier for me. So I downloaded "twhtanghk/armbian" in docker hub and ran it. #docker container run -it twhtanghk/armbian bash But when I hit "#ls -ls /dev" in the container, it show different result with my rockpis' Armbian. So I am reluctant to start to install those. Is it ok to install OpenVPN, Samba and Plex with the image? Or which docker image should use? …

Hi everyone, I'm trying to compile an image for Orange Pi One with the default config for desktop - but I'm running on box86 error, unable to locate box86 then the process terminates. Do I need to install it first from here >>> https://github.com/ptitSeb/box86 before I can make a successful image compile? - I also tried compiling just the kernel and my virtual box setup works just fine outputting compiled deb files.

Not sure if this is beginner or advanced, so I guess I'll start here. I have a "le potato" I recently bought. Getting it working has been a nightmare, but I'm almost there. Right now my project is to get a 32x64 RGB matrix working using an adafruit hat. I got Armbian 22.02.1 Focal running on it, and I'm using the gpiod library. I've had to write my own access library, but I've almost got it working, translating the pin labels ("7J1 Header Pin15") to the appropriate GPIO/offset values for use with gpiod. Except for exactly one. I try to use request_line on GPIO 22 (chip 0, offset 10) and it gives me an invalid argument. Doesn't do t…

Hi, as I would like to replace my old Banana Pi M1, I wonder which SoC I should use. I'd like to spend maximum 100€. What's the newest supported SoC which is right now available? Already orderes a Raspberry Pi 4 Gb 9 month ago....but still no idea when it'll be delivered. As I really like ARMbian and OpenMediaVault, I'd like to stick with it. I'd like to have at least a quadcore, gigabit-lan and 2-4GB ram.

Hi All, just discovered this great project. Awesome to see it's so well frequented. I'm trying to do some realtime data acquisition on a OPi one with Armbian Debian Stretch. Following on from the link at the bottom, I'm trying to set an interrupt handler in my loadable kernel module onto a seperate core that I've isolated from the normal scheduler (using isolcpus=2,3 in boot.cmd/.scr). I've built the kernel using the Vagrant instructions with the 4.19.50 RT22 realtime patches. But I've also tested with no luck on the standard build from the download page. I'm using the irq_set_affinity_hint in the following manner, but it has no effec…

I need to introduce a boot delay on my OrangePiPc to allow time for other network elements in my setup to boot, otherwise it will not get an IP address after recovering from a power interruption (common where I am). Hi, I own a Orange PI Plus 2 with SATA support. Until now without success I tried to migrate from a SD boot / HDD root setup, which is my current well working situation, to a SD boot / SSD root setup. I created two partitions on the SSD created a swap device on sda1 and root device on sda2 like on the HDD. Performed mkswap on /dev/sda1 and copied the HDD root filesystem to the SSD root file system to be /dev/sda2 using ' find . -print | cpio -pdvm' on a spare laptop with two SATA ports. I even copied the UUID from the root partition of the HDD to the root partition of the SSD. Next I configured the system by changing the root device in armbianEnv.t…

When attempting to update to the dev kernel I ran ' apt-get install armbian-firmware sunxi-tools swconfig a10disp ' per the instructions. It is not finding the swconfig and a10disp packages with the standard repositories active (I have done apt-get update). If these are in an alternative location, perhaps add a line in the kernel update instructions (for various Orange Pi in my case) to add it. I see one older message referencing it being available on a beta site. The same command is present for the non-dev instructions. It also seems odd that a10disp is listed for these H3 based boards (but there is also no h3disp package). Are the instructions wrong/old…

Hi all I would like to start this topic to discuss on the best approach for having some degree of data integrity using ARM SBC (aarch64 SoC in primis) My goal is to set a big archive, I have in program to build 5x8TB HD, scheme TBD The goal is to have at least one hard drive failure tolerance, it is acceptable that some data is lost during rebuild, since the main goal of the archive is to store picture and video, so it is tolerable that few pictures or video get corrupted, but the rebuild shall not stop in this case The write performances are not so important, but read performances shall sustain some video streaming, roughly at least 25 Mbytes/s M…

First of All... Great job on this Distro very much appreciated. Thanks. I have a goal of running a real-time kernel on a H3 (NanoPi Neo preferably and or M1). Ultimate goal is to be able to run MachineKit on one of these (headless on Neo). MachineKit requires a real-time kernel with RT_PREEMPT being the preferred choice it seems. There are patches available for the kernel for 4.6 and 4.8. so we look to tracking close to the mainline with 4.7.6 considering 4.8 released on Oct 2nd. I tried patching the Armbian Kernel and not unexpectedly I got a number of conflicts with previous patches and some rejects. I am looking for some guidance here as to the best way t…

Hello, I got recently an Odroid HC2 and installed Armbian (Buster 5.4.61) on it, OMV5 and I fixed IP. I configured it on the cable that I use on my desktop and connected my desktop on wifi. If I try to connect to SBC through Putty on the desktop with it connected on cable and wifi, I connect normally. But if I disconnect of wifi, I can't connect to SBC, even on Putty or browser. Hi, Now that I have my NanoPC-T4 working with hardware 3D acceleration, 1080p video playback, full development environment on NVMe, Think it's time for a backup. Has anyone found a usefull utility ? Or should I just use dd to dump the eMMC partions to image files on a USB attached drive and rsync to backup the NVMe the the same ? Has anyone had to restore a board and how well did your solution work for you ?

What's your recommendations? Thanks in advance! F.
