I'm working on a ElPotato running Ubuntu Bionic 18. I have a test suite that test the kernel's random number generators. The test program comes from the Crypto++ library (https://cryptopp.com/). The test suite is failing its test of /dev/random. It appears the generator is suffering entropy depletion: $ ./cryptest.exe v ... Testing operating system provided blocking random number generator... FAILED: it took 91 seconds to generate 7 bytes passed: 7 generated bytes compressed to 9 bytes by DEFLATE passed: GenerateWord32 and Crop The kernel algorithm to keep the generators in good working order has some gaps. Additionally, the kernel removed several entr…

So I tested Kodi playing different demanding video files (H256), and it works smoothly, without crashing at all. So far the most stable media center option. But yes, we have no ethernet. So I was wondering how could we load the basics drivers from the Xulong image, into the PineH6 one. So I browsed for hours (because Im not at all familiar with this android weird partitions system, and with the OS itself). First I realized both Pine H6 and OPiOnePlus use the same ethernet controller (the realtek 8211). Then I went for the schematics, to actually check if the realtek chip was connected to the H6 the same way on both boards. Which it seems to be for…

lima opensource driver for MALI GPU is tolked in many wiki, but there are almost no wiki about how to integrate it, or about the detail usability and how it compare with closed source MALI driver. and @superna9999 says "the ultimate focus is Lima" in https://github.com/superna9999/meson_gx_mali_450/issues/8#issuecomment-462120890 is there any ongoing effort on lima driver for H3?

Hi, I have a nanopi neo SBC and my final goal is to get Sunxi-cedrus 2019.03_Release (patched kernel 5.0.0 release) installed on device to test cedrus driver. Did a manual kernel build and tried to dpkg -i *.deb files on the board but the kernel hangs on boot. I read also but that didn't help me so much So I tried same procedure to replace the armbian standard 4.19.20 kernel with an official mainline 4.19.36 version. I found same exact issue so I think I'm missing something. Please have a quick read at the procedure I followed and put any advice to help me going through. 1) touch default kernel .config to have: -…

After reading from June '16 until February '17 I think it makes sense to start at the last steps /improvements. In the 5.24 nightly the directory for networking looks like this (the network folder and the few below this branch): Looking back to my manual I deleted the VLAN file and created my own. Then I see here: ifenslave | ethtool | ip | several 'interfaces' and I was wondering does it need all that for a working VLAN with DSA=Distributed Switch Architecture ? ==================================================== reto@lamobo-r1:/etc/network$ ll total 60 drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 4096 Feb 4 18:34 ./ drwxr-xr-x 94 root root 4096 Feb 4 18:36 ../ drwxr-xr-x 2…

Hi everyone, I have a Helios 4 running Armbian 5.68 I have set up Nextcloud, and everything is working. However, if the server is "cold" it takes several seconds for the page to load. If the server is "hot" then the page loads immediately. I'd like to know if there's anything I can do to keep the page loading at its fastest speed. I'm confident that it's not due to the hard drive going into standby. I have used the command sudo hdparm -S 0 /dev/sda To disable the hard drive going into standby mode, and confirmed that the slow loading still occurs if the hard drive is active/idle with sudo hdparm -C /dev/sda Any s…

Hi all! I make a board base on H3 CPU, I got a 8G EMMC under mmc2, and a ap6212a chip under mmc1. It boots successfully with the "armbian orange-pi-pc-plus", the emmc works fine while the wifi does not work, so, i changed the dts's mmc1 section based on the file 'sun8i-h3-orangepi-pc-plus.dts' in 'arch/arm/boot/dts/' directory, the mmc1 is changed to as follows: &mmc1 { vmmc-supply = <®_vcc3v3>; vqmmc-supply = <®_vcc3v3>; mmc-pwrseq = <&wifi_pwrseq>; bus-width = <4>; non-removable; status = "okay"; /* * Explicitly define the sdio device, so that we can add an ethernet * alias for it (w…

Some people noticed that Pulseaudio mixes is showing "Built-in Audio" for all the audio devices of the SBCs. I investigated and found that the issue is related to ALSA: the devices are not really exposed by their real hardware connection (HDMI, SPDIF, ...) but just as "hw" devices. Pulseaudio is interpreting this as built-in audio because does not know anything else of the device. I'm no ALSA expert at all, copied some already existing configuration files without really understanding what I did, I found a solution. To solve the problem with SPDIF and HDMI you need to place the following two configuration files in /usr/share/alsa/card. Call the…

I'm looking to potentially set up a dedicated VPN server probably using an Olimex Olinuxino A20 Lime 2. The main thing I was somewhat confused about is how to connect to my router and how to ensure that traffic is routed through the VPN server? Presumably to connect to my router I would just use an Ethernet cable. But how then would I ensure that all traffic goes through the VPN? The vast majority of SBC that I have seen only have 1 Ethernet port so connecting devices physically is a no go. I assume I might need to use some form of port forwarding?

Hi all, Recently I tried to replace the wireless module on NanoPi Neo Air and met some very strange phenomenon. I just solder off the AP6212 module and then replace it with an AP6234 module. When I use the factory FriendlyCore system with brcmfmac43340-sdio.bin & brcmfmac43340-sdio.txt in /lib/firmware/brcm, everything works ok. But when I use armbian system, the wifi just not work. It always down after about 10 seconds when the bcm43340 firmware load. And I remember previously armbian system works fine for AP6212, but AP6212A not work and has the similar problem with AP6234. I just build the the armbian use the mainline 4.14.…

I'm working with an Orange Pi Zero board powered by OpenWRT with U-Boot (2018.11) and kernel (4.14.93). I'm trying to implement a recovery mode by inspecting a state of some button during an u-boot phase. This button is connected to a PL4 GPIO line. When Linux gets loaded it's possible to read a state of this GPIO line, but during an u-boot phase result is the same ( 0 ) regardless of a real state of the button (`gpio input pl4`). As I got from H2+ datasheet, L port is a dedicated port (bank) with all GPIO lines disabled by default, when I try to change value of a configuration register for this port nothing changes - I read it and see that it's the same.…

I have setup an Orange Pi Zero with the latest Armbian Stretch to use as an Open Media Vault server and a Pi-Hole (with the Pi-Hole being used as a DHCP server). I installed both from the armbian-config software menu with no problems. However these days I've been getting at random times a very strange issue. I have my Orange Pi Zero set with a static IP address since I am using the Pi-Hole software as a DHCP server for my home network, the problem is that at what seems like at random times it gets a different IP address without me touching anything, the IP is something in the style of 2XX.XXX.XXX.XXX instead of 192.168.1.20 that I have set as static from armbi…

I have recently installed armbian on odroid c2. -The burning the armbian image using etcher.io was surprisingly easy and agreeable -gui bringup with a default desktop was agreeable too. ovo.fyi/lorem-ipsumovo.fyi/emp-mailovo.fyi/10-minute-mail -the kernel version is more recent 4.14+ -the support for mali gpu seemed to announced on this version BUT the responsiveness from the web browser, the responsiveness from the media players was choppy. When I power down H3-devices I see quite different results. Normally I use 'sudo poweroff' which should behave like 'shutdown -P'. I guess the command was successfull when the last message on the serial console reads "Power down." This works with Legacy Images. Power consumption drops significantly. On the NEO and OPi Zero to somewhat 150 mW, NEO Air 250 mW. To my surprise the Orange Pi One drops even to 0 mW. Question 1: Why is that? Is it different voltage regulators, or are parts of some boards purposefully kept powered on? Testing Mainline Images things are more simple: I never even reach the "power down"-target, the sys…

One of my students told me Armbian no longer accepts donations. Indeed, I see a 'Subscriptions' section, but no longer a Donations link. It's been a while since I looked. When 'subscribing' I guess one could uncheck the automatic renewal, but would that cause trouble for Armbian expecting continuing income? Or should one make the subscription and then cancel? I always encourage my students to support Armbian. I have no clue how many actually have, but feedback is that they would like to make a one-time donation and not a 'subscription.' I dig the subscription idea, but I think Armbian should also have a one time donation link even if it only gets …

Hi forum, I want to try out KVM virtualization since I found out that Odroid HC-1 (=Odroid XU4) does in fact support hardware virtualization and should therefore have a good performance. (Is this true, has someone already done this and can confirm?) In the past I have worked with other virtualization software but this would be my first time to use kvm. Not long ago I started a server projet which works very very well and serves all my needs. The little board is so efficient indeed that I got more than 1GB of unused RAM and also a lot of unused performance. Therefore I wondered whether I could safely use the board to virtualize an enviro…

Hello. Sorry, I am Russian and have no money for a strong computer. I have only a tablet PC, but I really want to learn Linux (and at the same time try it). So I am trying to install Armbian build on my tablet (Texet TM-9751HD). The most suitable build (mainline Kernel 4.19) is "Bananapi M2" (but it was loaded only with the "yones-toptech-bs1078-v2.dtb", so I was able to get a prompt # - suggestion to log in, where I must input login/password). The problem is that the tablet has only one micro-usb port, which works as charging and OTG. The keyboard works fine under Android, but doesn't respond at the prompt. Also, I tried the old Kernel(3.4) and the original Scrip…

I manage to make my device unbootable by using armbian-config and selecting a development kernel vmlinuz-4.20.0-rockchip64 I have mounted the disk on a ubuntu laptop and I take it u-boot is similar to grub2 in that its not just a case of changing the symlinks Image -> vmlinuz-4.4.167-rockchip64 Uinitrd -> uInitrd-4.4.167-rockchip64 you have to do a grub2-mkconfig command \ grub-update in order to boot strap t…

Hi I would like to run my OrangePi +2e with absolute minimum power consumption ie no display, no wifi, reduced clock speed, etc. I only really need ethernet and USB function. When I first set the OrangePi +2e up I ran Armbian Jessie and there was a package that I downloaded from one of the forums that allowed me to manage such things. I can not find this package again. I don't know if it would work with Stretch. The Armbian Config might do this instead? Any help greatly appreciated. Regards Carlos

Hello I've seen threads about this topic before but can't get around if Armbian for Tinkerboard S is working with the official Raspberry Pi display? I have it working great with TinkerOS, problem is that I'm missing some kernel modules like CAN, CAN-raw and SLCAN which ThinkerOS doesn't ship with. That's why I would like to run Armbian instead. This is the display: https://www.raspberrypi.org/products/raspberry-pi-touch-display/ Can anyone tell me how to get the display working with Armbian?

Soo, few weeks ago, I left the Orange Pi Zero unpowered. Then, now, after I power it on, I quickly ran the 'update' and 'upgrade' commands to upgrade my system... Well, then I ran 'armbianmonitor -m' to check my CPU's temperature and to see if I had installed the cooling fan correctly. Suddenly, I noticed its clock speed is no longer 1200Mhz maximum. I was freaked out then, so I quickly checked the CPU's lowest and highest clock speed using 'cpufreq', and it said that the maximum speed is 1008Mhz (About 1,008ghz), and the minimum speed is 120Mhz (About 0,12ghz). I don't understand why :v I only left it unpowered for a few weeks and now its clock speed just got decreased f…

Hi I am having problems with my OrangePi +2e. It may be failing and need replacing but I would like to make sure it is not some other issue first. I use the OrangePi +2e as a Network attached audio (NAA) device for HQPlayer running on a MacMini. Since installing Stretch . The NAA now shows H3 Audio Codec as well as the usb input for my digital audio converter. This did not show up when using Xenial. Is there a command to disable H3 Audio Codec? it may be causing a conflict issue? I am unable to return to Xenial as NAA software no longer supports it. Thanks in advance Carl Mawer

Hello Igor, your Image resizes itself upon boot to full SD card size. Is it possible to reenable this process again? I know I simply could resize with GParted or similar tools. But I'd rather reuse it the way your image did on first boot. Thank you.

I've noted that 'armbianmonitor -u' will obfuscate some detail such as IPv4 addresses prior to uploading, but it misses similar additional detail: IPv6 addresses, specifically 'global' scope, are left intact. These are on interface configurations and in resolv.conf configurations at least. 'domain' and 'search' directives in resolv.conf are left intact. These can (would) include local domain names, which may be sensitive outside of a given environment. username is exposed in showing group membership. This may be minor but in some cases may be sensitive outside of a given environment, and perhaps can be shown anonymously such as '### Group membership o…

This isn't Armbian per se, but I thought it worth mentioning for anyone considering a SOPine Baseboard. Pine chose a small coaxial power jack instead of the micro USB for the main 5V input. This jack is kind of an odd size, but it also seems pretty fragile, especially when the extra leverage of a power cable is added to it. I broke the mount on mine within the first 20 minutes of use. It still worked as it was just the mechanical mount, but it became position sensitive and a pain to use. You can still power the board via the Euler bus, and that's what I switched to instead. If this isn't appropriate for this forum, please feel free to move it (or d…

Hi everyone, I've updated my pcDuino via: Sudo apt-get update Sudo apt-get upgrade I can reach 8.8.8.8 from the terminal and google.com from the Chromium browser. However, I cannot reach any other website. I am guessing it has to do with the latest TLS requirements. TLS 2.0 is required for 99% of global websites. I'm presuming my pcDuino is on an older version for TLS 1.0/1/1 Any thoughts or help is greatly appreciated Thanks

Hi all, I'm experimenting with OPi Zero 2+ and I would like to flash onboard eMMC with a fresh Armbian (from a clean img, not from running system). What I did is booting from SD, downloading an Armbian img and dd'ing it into emmc device file, being sure it would have been enough since is what we do (I think?) when we write img to SD cards. I found out it won't boot unless I manually flash sunxi-spl.bin at 0x2000. What am I missing? Isn't that supposed to be flashed with image? Is dd a proper method to flash a clean image on mmc from a running system? Thank you

There's a cheap M2 SSD, for example for sale here, but it would be a bad idea to use it in any ARM board with an M2 drive slot. I have one of these M2 drives in my laptop, and I learned the hard way how slow it will get within 1 year's use, like 30MB/sec read, 8.5 MB/sec write! Over time, this drive will gradually go slower and slower and slower, until you figure out you need a firmware upgrade. Then you'll need to use the closed-source firmware-upgrading CLI utility that Micron publishes. There is a version for linux, but it's AMD64 only. You might think you can put the M2 drive in a USB-3.0 enclosure, then firmware upgrade it in that enclosure…
