Does it make sense? I would like to use the mainline armbian kernel on a custom minimal Buildroot image to use on a orange pi zero. Buildroot because of its lightness and armbian because it has Opi audio drivers and codec that doesn't seem to be included in Buildroot default kernel. If this is possible, could you help me with the configuration of Buildroot to use armbian as kernel?

I'm spending some time on one of those famous Q8 tv boxes (ENY Q8, VSmart Q8, etc...) which sports the rk3288 soc I started with recent u-boot and kernel releases. Rockchip provides a recent u-boot (late 2017) and an LTS 4.4 kernel on their rockchip-linux github account. I compiled u-boot (from here) using a the device tree source from DengueTim (available here, in arch/arm/boot/dts/rk3288-q8.dts). I had to enable the serial driver though, because the device tree is "kernel flavour", instead u-boot wanted explicitly the serial port in "chosen" section. Compilation goes fine and u-boot boots from the SD card, prints Model, Ram and MMC infos on …

I was hoping for some pointers on this issue I am having while trying to enable eth0 interface on my Pine64 SBC. I am running the following Armbian version: Title: Armbian 5.38.180128 Pine64 Debian stretch next Kernel: Linux 4.14.15 Build date: 28.01.2018 I am able to connect a USB 2.0 to Ethernet adapter without any issues. The problem arises when I try to enable eth0 which is the Native Ethernet port. pine64:/# ifconfig eth0 up SIOCSIFFLAGS: No such device dmesg | grep eth0 gives me the following: xxxxxx.ethernet eth0: Could not attach to PHY var/log/messages shows the following: device (eth0): driver '(null)' does not…

I run ARMBIAN 5.38 stable Debian GNU/Linux 8 (jessie) 4.14.18-sunxi on an Orange Pi Zero. Cron and its timezone are causing me problems: it's initially one hour out - all root crons run an hour early. If I run dpkg-reconfigure tzdata and set the correct region/place, cron then runs correctly until the next reboot. I can see no difference between the localtime and timezone files before and after the reconfigure (strangely, the localtime link is replaced by a file following a reconfigure - this is different from my other Armbian machines). I can work around the problem as follows: following a start/reboot I then restart the cron serv…

Dear all, so after switching from bananian to armbian around half a year ago, I've made several updates to the bananapi server running. As the prototype server is still running with bananian, some problems just occured as I am now testing a fresh install of my web-package, including nginx, mysql, php7 / laravel and some other stuff. So what I realized was that the database, even on a fresh install, is extremely slow. I thought the newer setup with debien stretch and mariadb 10.1+ might be the problem, yet running the same on the older armbian jessie build did not change anything. I also set up a fresh virtual machine running debian stretch with two cores,…

alright thanks @edupv Oh, and one another problem that bugs me once every one or two week in armbian 5.27, but in 5.40 it's almost everyday, The UASP stopped responding requests, it freeze entire system for several minutes, and every I/O to my hard drive makes the OS unresponsive. I was using ASMedia ASM1153E a years ago, and it show much problem. So I switch to JMicron JMS578, which doesn't error as often like ASMedia 1153E. I already read here (http://linux-sunxi.org/USB/UAS) and found out both ASM1153E and JMS578 is listed as OK right now. below is dmesg output when it started to freeze when I'm copying a file from my PC to…

Hi: I used the following command ./compile.sh BOARD="orangepiplus2" BRANCH="next" KERNEL_ONLY="no" KERNEL_CONFIGURE="no" BUILD_DESKTOP="no" to successfully built an image out: I then use the following command line: dd bs=4M if=Armbian_5.40_Orangepiplus2_Debian_stretch_next_4.14.17.img of=/dev/mmcblk0 conv=fsync to write my SD card successfully. I have Google assistant running on Armbian on an Orange Pi Lite headless system. The sound output is via a USB sound card, as the Orange Pi Lite does not have n audio jack, but the volume is too low, even with volume set to max on alsamixer. On Xenial A64 I added an entry for a LUKS partition into /etc/crypttab (after installing cryptsetup which added its stuff to uBoot). But at boot I don't get asked for a password If I add a timeout in crypttab, boot continues with a rescue console, if not it hangs forever. Other than that I have no clue what's going on, journalctl only shows "systemd-cryptsetup failed, status 1" obviously because no password was given. I also added dm-crypt to modules and called update-initramfs, but that didn't change anything

Sorry if that already has been answered, couldn't find anything via search function: I have a 1920x1200 TFT attached, works well with 1080p but of course everything is a bit stretched. I tried to understand how boot.cmd/scr work, but essentially there are no entries in those files for that resolution. Search for fdt_disp_mode showed up exactly 2 hits on Google So I'm a bit lost. Is it possible at all?

Hi, I downloaded Armbian 4.14.14 and I installed it on my Banana PI. Then I configured it to act as Gateway/Firewall. Now, just before I start active using it, I wanted to backup the installation on a second SD-card, just in case... I buyed a Toshiba 8GB Class 10 and I started to copy the data from my "old" SD-Card (SanDisk 8GB Class 10), first with Linux using dd, then under Windows using Win32DiskImager. Always the same problem: if I boot the Banana PI with the new card the system boots and, before I get the login screen, the system restarts in a loop... With the "old" card of course it works... Can someone …

This is a FYI: My armbian did not automount my USB-disk. Possbile reason "By default, disk drives do not auto-mount in Ubuntu Server Edition.". Anyway: I solved it with usbmount: First install usbmount. Then, in /etc/usbmount/usbmount.conf change the line #MOUNTOPTIONS="sync, noexec, nodev, noatime, nodiratime" to MOUNTOPTIONS="sync,noexec,nodev,noatime,nodiratime,user,umask=0000" to make it writeable for all users. I have been trying to install a minimal XFCE4 desktop environment onto my Orange Pi Zero 2+ H5 but have run into a weird issue. It works if I startup with this... sudo startxfce4 which runs the root user desktop, but fails when I try to run it as just a user. Does anybody know what I have done wrong?

Hello- I'm looking to marry free and open (as possible) software and hardware into one inexpensive system. I'm in over my head so apologies in advance if I'm asking silly stuff. I did check the basics on here and have been lurking. At any rate I've been messing around with the Lime 2 and haven't had much luck getting Parabola to boot into LXDE... or any GUI at all actually. I thought I'd try Armbian as the Debian Kernel has been blob-less for a while now. I really, really like it so far. I am using Mainline, just want to make sure I'm running all free software if possible. I have checked for non-free stuff via: dpkg-query -W -f='$…

Hey, I'm trying to setup the ports of the switch correctly but I don't arrive anywhere. I'm using the mainline armbian for my R1. There are different files in /etc/network(e.g.): -rw-r--r--. 1 root root 495 18. Jun 2017 interfaces.r1 -rw-r--r--. 1 root root 610 18. Jun 2017 interfaces.r1router -rw-r--r--. 1 root root 359 18. Jun 2017 interfaces.r1switch But even if I completely copy a configuration file to /etc/network/interfaces there are still no packets arriving at the Ports named lan1 to lan4. I checked this with tcpdump -i interfaceName, but all packets are arriving at eth0. Only some IPv6 packets are arriving at the lan-ports. …

Hi everybody, I’m trying to find how to view image by selecting it by reference (image name or its sequence in folder). Or by sequence order: doesn’t matter the name or number of images, if I tape 1 key the first image on the folder will be shown and key 3 for 3th image..... I have I tried feh with --action but no success. ($ feh –y –F --action 1 1.jpg --action2 2.jpg ) but not what I need. Is there a way to send the key value t…

Hi, I am using Bluetooth and WiFi in the same time. Bluetooth is using for a whole time and WiFi 1 time per minute. So, I don't need WiFi connection very fast and do need most of network services. Due usage of AP6210 module, WiFi and BT shares the same communication channel (UART). I continuously send data (1Mbps) via Bluetooth. WiFi is used by my app 1 time per minute. The problem is that Bluetooth drops communication for about second. Reducing BT speed does not help. I noticed that when I download file from OPI board, that drops occurs much often. It seems that WiFi has a higher priority than BT in communication. Strange thing is that when I don't use WiFi network, i…

Hi all. I hope I'm posting this in the right section of the forum. I'm looking for an SBC to use as a media center (Kodi) attached to an old CRT TV to watch (among others) german DVB-T2 terrestrial broadcasts. I've set up a Raspberry Pi 3 with OSMC so far and this works well for net content but isn't up to the task of decoding the H.265 TV streams, presumably due to lack of hardware support. So, what I need is an SBC with hardware support for H.265 decoding which also sports a composite video output. Preliminary research leads me to believe that the Orange Pi series of boards should be up to the task and seem well supported by Armbian. However, I'm a bit lo…

Just after writing the image on the SDcard, I start tuning rc.local and crontab. I've tried to compile libgpiod (my assumption is this is a user space lib) and it depends on gpio.h which is used by the kernel. According to https://github.com/brgl/libgpiod/issues/22 gpio.h should be installed with linux-libc-dev which is already installed and gpio.h is missing. I installed the kernel headers and tried (it ends up with typedef conflicts): ./autogen.sh --enable-tools=yes --prefix=/usr/local CFLAGS="-I/usr/src/linux-headers-4.14.14-sunxi/arch/arm/include -I/usr/src/linux-headers-4.14.14-sunxi/include" configure: error: linux/gpio.h header not found (needed to build the library) I've attached the config.log. Has anyone tried to install PiVPN or EasyRSA on a Rock64? I tried this and had some issues where EasyRSA did not install. No errors were shown on the install or captured in the install log. Took me a while to figure out that EasyRSA was not installed. It even created .opvn files for clients... I finally figured out what happened. Did some research and found a suggestion to manually install some packages BEFORE installing PiVPN. That seems to work, so now I have a working VPN. I just wanted to see if anyone else is having an issue. I will also post on the PiVPN Github site to get their input. Thanks!

Hi there! I am using a H3 board with TV out on a small 3.5" LCD screen (with composite->RGB24 IC). But I have a problem with picture being way too bright/washed out. The LCD luminosity can be modified with LCD-driving IC buttons, when set to lower value the picture gets better but colors are still too bright (even if luminosity is low) I have tested the LCD with raspberry pi and output colors are normal. I was wondering if there is a known reason for this and if it can be fixed? So far I have just found a topic about a raspberry pi HDMI output being too bright (https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=50726) They su…

Hi, I would like to use Orange Pi Zero for home automation server. I'm finding method to install os upgrades (and my own app upgrade too). I plan to have a lot of devices hundreds of kilometers from me, so I cannot break device over ssh or during update. What is the the best reasonably priced camera module for Orangepi models these days? Raspberry has 5 and 8 megapixel camera modules from 7-30 euros. Orangepi has only 2 megapixel cameras. Or has a 5MP cameramode come available for Orangepi also? I've looked at Aliexpress and nothing seems to have changed.

Hi all I would like to start this topic to discuss on the best approach for having some degree of data integrity using ARM SBC (aarch64 SoC in primis) My goal is to set a big archive, I have in program to build 5x8TB HD, scheme TBD The goal is to have at least one hard drive failure tolerance, it is acceptable that some data is lost during rebuild, since the main goal of the archive is to store picture and video, so it is tolerable that few pictures or video get corrupted, but the rebuild shall not stop in this case The write performances are not so important, but read performances shall sustain some video streaming, roughly at least 25 Mbytes/s M…

Hey guys and a happy new year! I am working on a custom H3 board and I just got the prototypes from the oven. I am now trying to boot armbian on them. And as it's first prototypes I expected problems but I have trouble figuring out. I think it's because of my lack of understanding the boot process. See picture of the board enclosed. It don't tell much but it's nice to have a visual I think. On top right is a battery manager/power input. Right under is AXP8036 that makes 4 buck channels (1.35V for ram, 1.2V sys, 1.3Vcpu and 3.3V) Most is similar with orange pi PC schematic, there is few changes : - crystal and wifi is sa…

I have problem, I am not able to get console working to access my nanopi neo air. PSU is not issue, opi+2 runs with same power w/o issues. Sdcard is not problem either. Tested with more than one image and based on how onboard leds behaves, i believe that system boots up ok. Now the question: How to modify image on sdcard so that it connects to my WIFi (WPA2-PSK) on boot automatically making ssh to nano working? Or should I mount image, before writing to sdcard, and do the needed changes inside mounted image? What and how? Thanks!

Happy New Year to Everyone, Am I right to assume there is no power management at all when using a SSD on a usb to sata adapter in Linux? I have this crazy plan to salvage a broken laptop and replace the dead motherboard with a sbc and other components to make the laptop useful again and one with better battery life, than 3 hours while building websites it used to give me. When the usb to sata adapter is plugged in alone, it consumes 50ma more which is ok. Add my 120gb ssd and adds another 150ma which I think is normal for the drive when idle but no sata link power management. I tried using powertop, --calibrate then --auto-t…

The armbian I am running Welcome to ARMBIAN 5.31 stable Debian GNU/Linux 8 (jessie) 4.11.5-sun8i and few other versions that I tried have same issue with accessing GPIO from python as non root, and I, of course, need to access GPIO as non root however I setup permissions for /dev and /sys and whatever udev rules I configure there is some race condition and I can't get access to GPIO as a non root from python typical error is something like: :IOError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/sys/class/gpio/gpio1/direction' So I solved it by some hack of the OPi.GPIO library and udev rules that are not really feasible "always" so I'm tryin…

Currently the only way to get a working GC2035 camera at Orange PI PC Plus, is to 1) install Armbian 5.20 or 5.23 ( 5.24 / 5.25 and anything newer is known not to work) 2) then you need to carefully apt-get update / apt-get upgrade and hope it doesnt break However, there is a huge problem: Armbian 5.20 and 5.23 images are not available now They should have been available at these links: Armbian 5.20 - https://dl.armbian.com/orangepipcplus/archive/Armbian_5.20_Orangepipcplus_Debian_jessie_default_3.4.112.7z Armbian 5.23 - https://dl.armbian.com/orangepipcplus/archive/Armbian_5.23_Orangepipcplus_Debian_jessie_default_3.4.112.7z …

So I've got this 88SE9215 based board that is similar to the ones already posted except that it uses single SAS port instead of x4 SATA ports. The board comes with a splitter cable 1 SAS to 4 SATA + LED head. The cable is completely compatible with the board as the seller claims. I will attach pictures below. The board is detected (as per below), but if I attach disks they do not show up in the system at all. dmesg has no new messages and the disk is shutdown after 20-30 seconds (parks head and stops the motor) with lsscsi showing nada. Any thoughts on why I cant get it work? Now when I plug this board and boot, from `dmesg | grep ata` I get 4 new …

Hi all, I have a strange problem, when I make any file system changes, I can count to 10, pull out the power, and my changes are lost. My application sometimes requires changing of a settings file, and then quickish disconnection of power by the user (I know its not good, but it's a fact of the product) My current solution is to flush the write cache when I save the settings, I forget the command name, but that isn't ideal as other changes such as logging is lost. I'm using the armbian debian release at the moment. How can I change this write-cache timing to something like 2 seconds? Also, is this an SD-card technology issue or will the issue…

Armbian documentation on Overlays refers to /boot/armbianEnv.txt. But in the version of Armbian that I'm running (on a Cubietruck, ARMBIAN 5.36 user-built Debian GNU/Linux 8 (jessie) 4.13.16-sunxi) there is no such file. There is however a copy in directory /usr/share/armbian. Is this the overlay file that is processed at start-up? If so, it would be good if the documentation was updated.

Hi, guys. I need some help in understanding of usage AR100 (OpenRISC) coprocessor inside H3 SoC for the own real-time tasks. Now i'm using mainline kernel built with RT-PREEMPT patch. I'm using it with Machinekit (LinuxCNC) software to control stepper drivers/motors via GPIO step/dir pulses. But step pulses frequency is too slow (about 17 kHz) because the RT kernel latency is about 30 us. I think we can use the built-in coprocessor for the realtime GPIO toggling. The AR100 and main Cortex-A7 can talk to each other with built-in MSGBox. And the question is - how to launch my own firmware on the AR100 core?

After 30 mintes no other results. I don't know if I missed some steps, but it seems to do all correctly. No results at all at the present time. The S/N is X2HCAAG40056. Maybe could be blocked for upgrade or other? Actually the Vendor is 207K4. Thank you for your possible help. Have a Merry Christmas Gianluca

Hi , My son purchased a PCdunio v3, wifi enabled with his birthday money with the grand plan of "coding". This idea is slowly going down the drain. It is using Ubuntu 3.4.79+ It does not detect any wifi or ethernet. I have confirmed that both interfaces are up. I have tried with and without the SD card. I confirmed the router is not blocking the device. I can see that the State of wlan0 is unmanaged, but cant figure out how to fix that. I have tried manually creating entries for the network but this was unsuccessful. When it does try to connect to Wired Network, it simply got stuck looking for an IP address and never amounted to anything (Nothing in the ro…

Hello. I'm the one who is the owner of Banana Pi M3... Vendor provides "not so good" OS images... And I want to use best available kernel with the best available linux distr. So, my first question is about kernel version. Can armbian run under 3.4.39 kernel? https://github.com/BPI-SINOVOIP/BPI-M3-bsp To make build reproducible I need to fork this repo and made modifications of the file tree. As I know, Banana Pi M3 now can boot under mainline uboot. Also, there are some binary blobs to support GPU on this board, and I want to try those packages to get hardware acceleration.
