Hello, I would like to ask your help about a orange pi choice. i am a kindergarden teacher and I need a computer for my classroom, in order to show the kids videos, images, access internet for information and if it is possible, play .swf games. We had a very old desktop that is now dead, but the mouse, keyboard, old (not flat) vga monitor work ok. Do you think if I buy an orange pi pc (or an other board) and hdmi to vga adaptor and use armbian , I will be ok? No need to say that lack of money is the major issue......

I did enable Hotspot in armbian-config and that creates 172.24.1.1 for the WLAN adapter and 172.24.1.50 - 172.24.1.150 for DHCP. I want to change it to 172.29.2.1 First thing i did was changing the dnsmasq.conf to: interface=wlx647002073fb2 # Use interface wlx647002073fb2 listen-address=172.29.2.1 # Explicitly specify the address to listen on bind-interfaces # Bind to the interface to make sure we aren't sending things elsewhere domain-needed # Don't forward short names bogus-priv # Never forward addresses in the non-routed address spaces dh…

Hi I am referencing below from this closed thread: So currently I set up wifi through an initial ethernet connection, but the issue is when the wifi connection is successfully setup, that connection does not become active until ethernet is unplugged and board rebooted. Wifi is setup through nmcli...is there an option we are missing that is preventing both network interfaces from working simultaneously? currently just using "sudo nmcli dev wifi connect ssid password password"

I had a hard time to figure out how to set the input pull-up on GPIO 1 of the NanoPi neo2. In the end it appeared to be extremely simple, but in order to help other beginners I like to share how I accomplished it. 1) I created a dts file with the input pull-up definition for GPIO 1 2) I compiled the dts with the "armbian-add-overlay" tool 3) rebooted the NanoPi Neo2 That's it. The dts file can be placed anywhere on the Nanopi Neo2 eg. /home/pi/sun50i-h5-nanopi-neo2-pullup.dts nano /home/pi/sun50i-h5-nanopi-neo2-pullup.dts The content of sun50i-h5-nanopi-neo2-pullup.dts looks like this: /dts-v1/; …

So using the old sysfs (/sys/class/gpio/) interface, you "export" a gpio by spitting the gpio number into /sys/class/gpio/export. The GPIO number depends on the board and relevant documentation. Having once found that I need GPIO number 76, I'm migrating code to the new "gpio character device" interface (/dev/gpiochipn) on my Rock64. However, "gpioinfo" shows that hardly any gpios have useful labels, and Google searches always turn up Raspberry Pi results. So, can I just calculate the new gpio identify? Old gpio is 76, all /dev/gpiochips have 32 lines, 76/32 = 2 rem 12, so old gpio 76 is now /dev/gpiochip2 line 12? Edit: I tried this…

Last time I tried to update to Buster I noticed OpenMediaVault had issues (due to missing repos I think). But now that OMV 5 has been (apparently) released it should be a non issue upgrading to Buster. Has anyone had isssues upgrading to Buster with OpenMediaVault installed as of recently? OrangePiZero, Armbian_20.05.1_Orangepizero_buster_current_5.4.43 in RPI they have an option "Boot without waiting for network connection" which to be honest I do not know does what under the hood. What can I use with armbian to get faster boot time? I do not use Ethernet at all, I use wifi but do not want to wait for it to start using my device. https://armbian.lv.auroradev.org/apt/pool/bullseye-utils/h/htop/ Nothing there. Just running basic ... apt-get update && apt-get upgrade ... upon initial install, and it fails with "failed to fetch" (404) from whatever apt.armbian.com mirror it selects (of 2 or 3 observed). Held it back with apt-mark, removed it, and built from source using deb-src. Doesn't seem to be any problems or issues running htop built from deb-src, so, not sure why its needed in the Armbian source repositories ???

If I am using SSH over a WIFI connection and then plug in the ethernet cable, then I lose my SSH connection. Simply disconnecting the cable doesn't resolve the issue; I need to reboot without the ethernet cable connected to reestablish the SSH over WIFI. The system diagnosis is here.

Different trusted USB wifi modules are available at https://www.armbian.com/nanopi-neo/ , but my concern is trying to choose between different wireless modes such as 802.11 b or 802.11 n for example and type of wireless connection as access point or ad-hoc. through iw command you might be able to switch between modes and types of wireless connection but it is also related to the usb WIFI module whether it allows such an operation or not ! already purchased a usb wifi module (but not of the trusted ones) and it did not allow me to choose between modes but was able to choose ad-hoc. so does any of these https://www.armbian.com/nanopi-neo/ usb WIFI modules …

Hi everyone, I’m working on a custom Armbian build for an RK3588-based board (cm3588-nas) and trying to completely disable the Rockchip crypto driver (rk_crypto2), since it's negatively impacting LUKS (AES-XTS) performance. Hey, I basically need the LXC Kernel modul for the lxccu homematic software. Is this already included in the newer kernel drivers for the available debian or do I need armbian? I'm not 100% sure what the differences for armbian and debian are? Could someone explain that to me? thx! Cheers Btw: Is the Allwinner R8(m) also supported? I'm just starting to build up the community for the $9 computer CHIP which uses this processor. Would be great to have some more ways in building kernels. I really need to config my own kernel there to included touch screen drivers. Is this possible with the armbian too?

Looks like at present Armbian is based on LTS only. I am in particular annoyed by the outdated Samba release 4.3.11 in Ubuntu 16.04 and thus Armbian. Any chance that there might be a variant of Armbian adopting intermediate (yet stable) releases in the future? Or is there a way to upgrade Armbian or Samba without compiling myself? Thanks Joachim

On attempting to disable `sound.target` in a Nanopi Neo3 I noticed that both `alsa-state.service` and `alsa-restore.service` use the same `ConditionPathExists=!/etc/alsa/state-daemon.conf` (apparently called Card State Management Schemes). This contrasts with the unit files on my host system, with `alsa-state.service` using `ConditionPathExists=/etc/alsa/state-daemon.conf` and `alsa-restore.service` using `ConditionPathExists=!/etc/alsa/state-daemon.conf`. What is the reason for using both services within the same scheme?

## Description After a fresh installation of Armbian for Rockchip64 (Rock 3A), the system ships with `linux-image-current-rockchip64` version **26.2.1** (kernel 6.18.8), but the corresponding `linux-headers-current-rockchip64` package for version 26.2.1 is **not available** in the public APT repositories. This prevents installation of kernel headers required for DKMS modules, out-of-tree drivers, or any kernel module compilation. ## Steps to Reproduce 1. Flash the latest Armbian image for `rock-3a` (branch: `current`) from the official download page. 2. Boot the device and connect to the network. 3. Run `apt update` with any standard mirror (e.g., `mirro…

For what it's worth: I managed to compile VICE (classic commodore computer emulators) on my roseapple pi board running Armbian. I could not find it in the repository, so I started fiddling myself. This to address some nostalgic feelings which come by so now and then! Recipe in the spoiler.... Compiling and installation is pretty straight forward: 1) Download VICE 2.4 source-code from http://vice-emu.sourceforge.net/ 2) xvzf vice-2.4.tar.gz 3) cd vice-2.4 4) sudo apt-get install build-essential libvte-dev libasound2-dev libgtk2.0-dev libgnome2-dev 5) make 6) sude make install 7) start your trip down to memory lane with: vsid - the SID player x64 - the …

I know how to work with GPIO though the /sys interface, but that's not fast enough for my application. Is there a faster interface for working with GPIO on the H3, similar to the fast GPIO on the RPi. I believe fast GPIO on the RPi manipulates GPIO though a memory map interface. Is that possible with the H3. Has anyone done it?

I've got a quick question about the Armbian Ubuntu Xenial install. I want to make sure I'm not in the wrong here before looking around for where to submit a bug report. It seems that at least on the C2s, & NanoPI Neos that I have that the /etc/resolv.conf file is not a link to /run/resolvconf/resolv.conf. That doesn't seem right to me, is there a reason it's a regular file and not a link? It messes things up when moving the computer to different networks as it doesn't update with new DNS settings. Possibly more glaringly it could be a security issue for those unaware or not paying attention while using things like openvpn.

I'm using the Openmediavault+ARMbian image provided by Tkaiser. When I go to armbian-config --> System there is no 'Install - installs to SATA, eMMC, NAND or USB' option (according ARMBian documentation it should be there ). Just checked at a Odroid HC1 and a Banana pi 1, both running the "same" Openmediavault+ARMbian ROM. They also don't have the option van 'Install' option available. @Igor, @tkaiser is this option moved to a different location? Or just not present for the Openmedivault+ARMbian combo?

Hello everyone. We have checked the forum extensively but have not found a good answer to our problem. Our system is based on a Orange Pi Zero Plus (512 MB), and it is running nicely. However, after some time, (10 - 15 days from the last boot) or /tmp directory gets full and most of the system is not operational. Only solution we have found for the moment is rebooting the system. This is the output of df -h in one of our systems which only shows 7% usage. This usage figure increases day by day. Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on udev 174M 0 174M 0% /dev tmpfs 49M 5…

Hello, Thanks to the help here I got to install a latest armbian mainline version with the Lima OpenGL 2.1 support functional that might have not helped the desktop but is still nice to see the o.s. using any part of this system on a chip. I was expecting considering how old the game is to work faster even if it's accelerated for sure and expecting better quality results (bilinear filtering is not the best and sometimes objects disappear and reappear depending on the scene but it's a good test anyway). I am working with a nanopi neo. The overlay documentation says the default pps pin is PD14. How do I cross reference the gpio names in the overlay documentation to what the documentation on friendlyelec site. I dont see anything close to a PD14. None of the pin assignments match whats in the manufactures documentation. The I2C pins and a few others are clearly marked from the manufacture, so I could give that a good guess. Other than that, where do I find or how do I figure out which pin does what? Rob

Hi This issue is produced on both flavors of Linux for the orange pi zero i.e. Debian and Ubuntu. I am trying to login to pi zero using the serial terminal. What is the supported way, if any, to redirect /var/log.hdd to a directory located on a real HDD drive? One of my systems has an eMMC to boot and operate from, and a HDD hooked up on the USB3 port. "Ideally" I'd like to use only the HDD, but the poor/incomplete USB3 boot support on the Rock64 V2 (with Bionic at least) had me to buy an eMMC and live quietly with it. As it is, I'd like to move out of the eMMC all the data that is either written often, or that it could get bigger with time passing. For the logs, however, I don't think to have found a clean way to support the relocation of /var/log.hdd on a different drive/partition, unless I hack the armbian-raml…

Hi all, this is somewhat odd. I am using the nextcloudpi image NextCloudPi_Rock64_03-28-20.img. I believe it uses armbian (I am really not an expert sorry) and my problem is really not nextcloud related i believe. I had to cut the power to the rock64. Then i rebooted. The system clock is set to some early date (2016-xx-yy). Therefore the unmount is in the future causing an fsck. It fails miserably and drops to initramfs (where i really am lost). I don't think this should happen. I dont have a rtc battery - maybe this wouldnt be an issue if there was one attached? I hope someone can tell me how to progress or how to provide better insight …

I have compiled and installed it (v5.9)I have also updated the initramfs, but still when I boot I see on screen with uname-r the older kernel 4.9.7. Is there any other thing I'm missing so the bootloader boots with the newest installed kernel?

Hello armbian friends, I am not really a beginner but I don't find a fitting forum to ask this. Having manually upgraded the first day it was possible to Bullseye, my MOTD and armbian-release got stuck on the old version. Everything runs very very good, I have a very up-to-date kernel and love it. Any chance I can repair my broken MOTD? What did I do wrong when I changed my sources.list and armbian.list? Kind greetings

Hello everyone, I have been searching on the net trying to find a way to activate 3d acceleration since i want to use Jellyfin on my orange pi 5. After searching I found the option for ubuntu but not for bullseye, unfortunately I'm using bullseye due to OMV which won't work on ubuntu to use for my media server. Is there any way to turn on the 3d acceleration on Debian? I mean it should be possible since technically Ubuntu is based on Debian. but i was wondering if there are any steps that I need to follow.

I am using ARMBIAN Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS 4.6.3-cubox on SolidRun HummingBoard-i2eX Dual SoC i.MX6 Dual Single Board Computer. I have an USB 3.0 controller attached to the board (via a PCI slot). As far as I know, xhci_hcd has to be compiled for the controller to function properly. In the default installation, xhci_hcd is disabled ( /boot/config-4.6.3-cubox says: "# CONFIG_USB_XHCI_HCD is not set"). Do I have to setup a complete build environment as descried here http://docs.armbian.com/Developer-Guide_Build-Preparation/ or I can just somehow compile the module on the board itself? Where exactly do I get the sources from? Thanks

Hi, I've got Armbian Jessie setup as I want and wanted to clone it for backup. But when I boot the clone I get errors that lightdm can not start and my home dir is owned by root and is empty. The sudoers file is missing etc etc. Any ideas why this is happening? I've cloned Raspberry images hundreds of times and never seen this. The original card still boots perfectly? I've used this line to clone (on a Ubuntu machine) sudo dd if=/dev/sdc of=~/sdclone.img and when writing back sudo dd if=~/sdclone.img of=/dev/sdc I've also tried with bs=4M, notrunc, noerrors etc etc What should I do?

Hi there, I am using SD Card Copier on Raspbian to copy one Raspberry microsd card to another (can be smaller than original card) and it works great. But when I used it to copy armbian microsd card to another microsd card, another microsd card is unable to boot. Any idea what can be wrong? I love this approach because I am able to copy original card to smaller card but unfortunatelly Armbian OS is not able to boot (on the other hand Raspbian boots ok). When I use Win32DiskImager to copy Rasbian and Armbian, both new cards boot up successfully. Any idea please how can I use SD Card Copier installed on Raspbian to copy microsd card with…

Hi forum, I want to try out KVM virtualization since I found out that Odroid HC-1 (=Odroid XU4) does in fact support hardware virtualization and should therefore have a good performance. (Is this true, has someone already done this and can confirm?) In the past I have worked with other virtualization software but this would be my first time to use kvm. Not long ago I started a server projet which works very very well and serves all my needs. The little board is so efficient indeed that I got more than 1GB of unused RAM and also a lot of unused performance. Therefore I wondered whether I could safely use the board to virtualize an enviro…

I have an Orangepi PC with OS: Armbian_19.11.6_Orangepipc_buster_current_5.4.8_desktop... I'm trying to communicate hardware through the UART1 ports (GPIO198 and GPIO199, respectively pins 8 and 10), but I'm not able to enable the ports, I've tried modify the file "un8i-h3-orangepi-pc-plus.dtb" but I couldn't, I also tried the solution proposed in this topic: https://forum.armbian.com/topic/1524-orange-pi-one-how-to-enable-uart/ but I couldn't find the script.bin file in the boot folder... I also tried using Minicom, and the message Offline appears. I need to activate UART1 and configure it with 19200,8,1,N. Any tips?

I have been following a project on git hub and none of the commands work like the project as I have Armbian Focal installed. I need Armbian Bionic with Linux opiz2b 4.19.57-sunxi #5.90 SMP or 4.19.127-sunxi. I realise this is from 2019 and may be too old now to do anything with it. Is it possible to still get this? I can only find minimal versions in the archives that are much newer than this. I have to state here that I am a complete novice at this and so really have no idea what I am doing.

Hello. I have a question not directly related to Armbian, but to Linux in general. I just saw my problem fixed here and can't see how. I have most of my multimedia on samba share in my local home network. In Windows i am able to play videos from this share with directly loaded external subtitles (when available). But from Linux it's not that easy, when open share in file manager (double click). In some cases even video/music/pictures can't load from players with some incorrect path errors, but let's say this worked in most cases and focus on subtitles. For some reason when opening videos in Linux with file manager from samba share, only video loads, not the external subt…

Hey guys! Cheap Android tablets based on allwinner chipsets were pretty common back in 2012. After playing around with my OPiZ and seeing how well the sunxi/armbian kernel works, I thounght myself i should try to boot linux from this tablet. Hello guys, I'm new to SBCs in general and would like to start tinkering around a bit. But am not able to find a central resource with reviews and such. So have decided to ask the question here (moderators please feel free to move the thread around) I am looking for a SBC in the 30 to 35 or upto 40$ price range with a bare minimum of the following : 1. 64bit SoC 2. Atleast 1 GB RAM (pref 2 GB) 3. Wifi on board (or are wifi dongles a better option?) 4. 1080p out by hdmi.. Preferably 4k.. I read enough to understand that manufacturers other than Raspberry are not great with OS support or optimisation.. So I am looking for something t…

Hi there, I don't know yet much about the USB gadget framework, but was wondering it I could use it to make an Orange Pi Zero or One seen as a video sink by the host computer. I know the framework should allow the board to be seen as an audio source, a video source, a Midi device and other things, but could it be seen as a video consumer of some sort ? My goal would be to grab the host's webcam content, encode and stream it on the SBC so that the host's CPU still has resource for other tasks. Does it make sense ? Thanks.

Hello everyone, I'm new user about SBC and armbian. I recently purchased this SBC - purple-pi-oh (rk3566, Number/type of interfaces similar to Raspberry Pi), It has opened up its linux sdk and more. Because its default image version is older, and does not support k3s, cilium, etc (I'm a k8s ops), so I want to use armbian with it. I first directly downloaded and tried all rk3566/3568 images of other SBCs, such as station m2/station p2/Bananapir2pro, etc., and the most pleasant surprise was that using the station m2 image, purple pi oh almost works (can run through the installation process, mouse/keyboard/hdmi monitor works fine), t…

The Main part Is You Buying A Module and Plugging Your Fan Into It. : Here you go — two solid solderless picks: 1. Adafruit MOSFET Driver #5648 (the clean reference — genuine logic-level AO3406, flyback diode already onboard, jumper-friendly header, ~$4): https://www.adafruit.com/product/5648 Also stocked via resellers (Mouser/DigiKey/Pimoroni) if you search "Adafruit 5648." 2. Generic 3.3 V-trigger dual-MOSFET board (cheapest, everywhere, screw terminals — fully solderless; just add a flyback diode across the fan since these usually omit it): https://www.amazon.com/ANMBEST-Trigger-Adjustment-Electronic-Control/dp/B08TW9RB49 …

Hi all, We are now using ARMbian build tools as our 1st choice for all future DietPi SBC images. Currently, we support these devices that use ARMbian at their base: BPI Pro BPI M2+ OPI PC NanoPi Neo I'd like to increase this so we can support more boards with the same ARM SoC (eg: H3). Unfortunately, like most, i do not have access to every SBC out there. As we do further manual optimizations to the ARMbian images, after compile (eg: DietPi-RAMlog, DietPi-RAMdisk, package removals, prep for DietPi scripts etc etc), having the SBC device is essential to creating our image. I'am curious to know if the following is true: Are the Sun8i compiled kernels and mod…

When attempting to update to the dev kernel I ran ' apt-get install armbian-firmware sunxi-tools swconfig a10disp ' per the instructions. It is not finding the swconfig and a10disp packages with the standard repositories active (I have done apt-get update). If these are in an alternative location, perhaps add a line in the kernel update instructions (for various Orange Pi in my case) to add it. I see one older message referencing it being available on a beta site. The same command is present for the non-dev instructions. It also seems odd that a10disp is listed for these H3 based boards (but there is also no h3disp package). Are the instructions wrong/old…
