hi: I want to use my orange pi to control some network devices which has rs232 console port. so I enable uart1 as 2 pin mode, and buy some rs232-ttl converter board. then I found these rs232-ttl converters is not working under my situation. they do work when I use my PC to control orange pi (so this is RS232 -> TTL). they don't work when I use my orange pi to control rs232 device (so this is TTL-> RS232, not working). it seems there is something difference between RS232->TTL and TTL->RS232. now I wonder if TTL->RS232 possible? or I need enable 4 pin mode and find another kind of converter for the work? thanks a …

Hello all, My team and I are trying to use the ASUS Tinkerboard S (running Armbian Bionic v4.19.7, i.e. ubuntu bionic 18.04) as a platform to host a webapp, with a touchscreen as the user interface. We've successfully set up the Tinkerboard S to open chromium-browser in kiosk mode on startup using systemd, and a script that launches `chromium-browser --kiosk --app=server_url`. Our next step is to customize the boot process with the following changes: - none (or as few as possible) lines of text while the services are starting up - include a splash screen with our company logo, if possible Any advice on how to acc…

I started debian buster up and it started running through the black screen with non-graphics (doing this, doing that), then it got to ARMBIAN DEBIAN TTY1: login ... password. Is there a default login and password for this? If not, then there is something wrong with my download though I checked to make sure it was debian for orangepiplus2e desktop, and it is. This iso worked in the past and i have it saved on my ext hdd. UPDATE: I checked the checksum that I created with the checksum document that downloaded with the .img, and they are the same. I used "cp filename.img /dev/sdx" to copy the img to an microsd using a media c…

Good afternoon! Who started Armbian on Sunvell R69? I ran it with the settings of beelinkx2.bin. There is no Wi-Fi and the processor heats very much, more than 77. We had to reduce the maximum frequency to 1008 mhz and memory to 408 mhz. With settings orangepizero.bin I immediately get a problem with the video. Does anyone have the necessary settings for the Sunvell R69 Thank you.

Hey, I'm currently using Debian Wheezy Armbian and think on Upgrading to Jessie. This should be no problem using the Upgrade script as in documentation. Now I've seen that also Ubuntu Trusty ist available. Is there an upgrade from Debian Wheezy to Ubuntu Trusty possible? Does it have any consequences? Or should I stay within Debian? And as additional question: I currently backup the following directories: /etc /root /home /var/backups /var/lib /var/local /var/opt /var/mail /srv /opt /usr/local Is this enough? Or how should I backup before such a upgrade procedure? Thank you for your infos. Ingo

Hello, I have enabled overlayroot using "armbian-config" command line tool (in my orangepi PC). My current OS is Armbian Focal xfce desktop After rebooting, I noticed that the entire filesystem stills writable. I checked the content of ( /etc/overlayroot.conf) using; cat /etc/overlayroot.conf this command show at the end of the file these two lines: (after commented content): overlayroot_cfgdisk="disabled" overlayroot="tmpfs" If I well understood, normally, with such a configuration, the filesystem should be set to read only., but in practice, it is not. Could you assist me how to resolve this problem?

Not sure if this is considered an appropriate request for the Armbian forum, but I'll give it a try. New installation of Buster server 4.19.62-sunxi on OPiZero 512MB, with 32GB SanDisk A1 card. I installed CUPS (and Samba) via armbian-config, added myself to lpadmin; I can access the web interface. "Add printer" sees my Brother HL-2270DW on wifi, but no matter how I add the printer, I get one of a variety of errors when attempting to print a test page. CUPS finds and installs the printer at dnssd://Brother%20HL-2270DW%20series._ipp._tcp.local/ but when I print a test page, CUPS says it can't find the printer. So I change the URI to the printer's IP address on m…

alright thanks @edupv Oh, and one another problem that bugs me once every one or two week in armbian 5.27, but in 5.40 it's almost everyday, The UASP stopped responding requests, it freeze entire system for several minutes, and every I/O to my hard drive makes the OS unresponsive. I was using ASMedia ASM1153E a years ago, and it show much problem. So I switch to JMicron JMS578, which doesn't error as often like ASMedia 1153E. I already read here (http://linux-sunxi.org/USB/UAS) and found out both ASM1153E and JMS578 is listed as OK right now. below is dmesg output when it started to freeze when I'm copying a file from my PC to…

Hi, first of all, a great compliment to the makers of armbian, really good job you're doing! I installed legacy ubuntu trusty for pcsuino3-nano on my pcduino3 (not nano) and everything works fine. First i tried the vanilla version, but i could not manage to get UART2 (ttyS1) to work, so i switched back to legacy where everything with UART2 works properly. Maybe someone knows how to get ttyS1 working with the vanilla kernel on pcduino3 with that image provided. But I'm happy with legacy kernel for now. Now to the question, what i like better with vanilla is, that there's no preinstalled desktop-environment. I am using the pcduino3 headless as embedded d…

Hi there, Is there a way to make an automatic switch between AV and HDMI when HDMI connector is connected/disconnected? ie By default AV composite signal is ON, if HDMI is detected while booting, then video and sound are output to HDMI instead of AV/L/R output. I read that if both TV out and HDMI are enable at the same time it can result in artifacts on HDMI and for that reason TV was disabled by default. So is there a way to detect if HDMI is plugged in, and if so disable TV out. I would say it needs 2 .bin files with each config, but how to detect if HDMI is present before loading .bin and load the right .bin according to situation? …

Hello, when I turn on my orangepi with armbian, it automatically logs me in and shows desktop. How can I please disable autologin and auto desktop? For example, on raspberry pi after boot I see just terminal with username and password, when I type these it logs me in and stays in terminal, and when I want dekstop environment I type startx and then I am in desktop. I would like to have the same behaviour on the orangepi (first headless after boot, I juust after then I should be able to login and choose to display desktop). Many thanks.

Hey everyone, I'm eyeing the Orange Pi 6 Plus for some edge AI projects, given its 12-core CIX SoC, up to 28.8 TOPS NPU, and massive RAM options (16/32/64GB LPDDR5). Has anyone gotten Ollama running on it with NPU acceleration? Does it support it out of the box, or do you need to convert models (e.g., to INT4/INT8 formats) using custom tools like rkllama or similar? Additionally, with the higher RAM, can it handle bigger LLMs (like 13B+ models) more smoothly than lower-spec SBCs? Any benchmarks or tips on setups (e.g., Ubuntu/Debian installs, frameworks like MLC-LLM)? I'd love to hear real-world experiences—thanks!

Hi there. Is there any way to set hostname of freshly installed board with armbian-config not in menu, but from command line ? armbian-config --help gives some examples, but not for this case. And more generic question -- when I "burn" microSD image, first boot comes with questions about root password, new user, etc. Is there a way to do it in unattended mode ? E.g. with ansible. Hello all and I apologise for the rather long subject title there. A bit of a mouthful :-) I can understand how to create a .dts/.dtb file from an already running existing linux system on an arm based device. But what about if there is no linux image to run on it? Is it possible to take the device tree from an android device and then turn that into a .dts/.dtb file? Also am I correct in saying that pretty much the first thing that would be needed to boot any sort of linux on an arm device like this (R69 box) is a working .dts/.dtb file so it can boot? Case in point is my old R69 TV box. It always was and remains problematic in booting old thread but wa…

Sorry if I have come to the wrong place. A friend has given me an Orange Pi 5 Plus, fitted with a 1GB SSD, and I have been trying to get it started up. According to its previous owner, the SSD had been completely erased (I don't know why). It had no SD card with it when I got it. I downloaded the online instruction manuals, and set about trying to start it up, using a suitable 32GB SD card. I first tried with (OrangePi) Ubuntu, but ran into problems using Balena Etcher. It apparently transfers the Ubuntu Image to the SD card, but just as it appears to complete the process of verification, it produces a helpful error message ('There was an Error'....). I also tried wi…

Hi, I am trying to select an OS for C++ development on ARM processors for IoT development and I am thinking about long future. I've been using Debian and Ubuntu on my desktop, so I have to say I am biased on using Debian. (1) armhf debian looks stable, it can support any ARM board as long as it has Linux kernel, but it requires large size in both RAM and Flash like a desktop environment. Hello community, when I SSH into my ODROID-HC2 I get the nice coloured MOTD which I really like. Question 1) I found the configuration file /etc/default/armbian-motd and the directory /etc/update-motd.d and after reading the bash code I lack in understanding why some information lines are suppressed in the MOTD banner when the scripts get executed. For example: I would expect to see some net traffic stats because /etc/default/armbian-motd uses the default setting PRIMARY_DIRECTION="rx" and the package "vnstat" is installed and "vnstat -i eth0" return correct output. I also tried changing PRIMARY_DIRECTION line to ="both" but I don't get any…

Hello, I am running an orange pi one plus (H6 all winner). I tried to change partition size as suggested, although nothing working, here is what I tried: fdisk and the commands, with and without deleting old partition then adding partitions, I get an error message at the end when input w, people say to ignore it, although orange pi cannot boot afterwords I tried the instructions on their wiki, nothing works I tried cfdisk which seems to be working, although still when I df -h I cannot see the partition, and when I try to install something for some unknown reason my dpkg gets broken, and says that my mmcblk0p2 is …

I don't want to talk about how long i beat my head against this but i have it working so i thought i would share. First, in the 5.4.y kernels, the fbtft_device module seems to be missing? So i am using 5.90 oragepizero ubuntu bionic next 4.19.57 as my image, kernel is upgraded to 4.19.62-sunxi via regular apt-get upgrade. I have a genuine waveshare 2.8 A rpi lcd. Waveshare states repeatedly that it is compatible with the 3.2 B rpi lcd except for the screen size and number of buttons, so this should work for the 3.2 B lcd as well. This blog post was pretty helpful: https://kaspars.net/blog/spi-display-orange-pi-zero But it …

Hi, I was looking for ways how to speed up CPU for faster ethernet transfers and speed it down when idle. I would also like to control voltage. I know that in mainline kernel you can edit this file arch/arm/boot/dts/sun7i-a20.dtsi and configure it yourself. 1)I would like to know where (if) you can control voltage somewhere for 3.4 kernel. I was unable to found any info. 2) in /boot/script.bin i found out parameter "dram_clk", I assume that you can change freq of RAM here. Somewhere I read (I think form tkaiser) that you can add 48MHz steps to CPU/memory. Why exactly 48MHz? That is very interesting for me. Some clock source/timer works in 48 MHz? …

Cross-posting from the Radxa community, because I've not had much luck getting replies over there, and hoping this forum is more active. I’m in the process of porting a VISCA/NDI camera controller from Raspberry Pi to run on Rock Pi (4B+ version 1.73), and I’m running into some serious GPIO hardware failures that I don’t quite know how to deal with. As a starting point, I took a pre-built collection of LEDs and disconnected them from a working Raspberry Pi setup and connected them to the Rock Pi. They all worked fine when driving them from the Raspberry Pi, so I’m reasonably certain that the problems are specific to the hardware or drivers on the Rock Pi …

I would like to make myself more familiar with the early linx boot process on ARM (u-boot, device trees and co.) and my idea was that I will start tweaking with something which actually works. I tried to figure out how to obtain the source package for u-boot (in my case for linux-u-boot-orangepi3-lts-current) but the armbian package repository seem to contain obly binaries. Any idea wherethe source packages for this binaries are located (e.g. what deb-src line do I need to add to the armbian.list to make "apt-get source" to work)?

At 19:54:55 kernel crash happens. That for some reason forces system to change time to Aug 24 1978. systemd reacts to that situation strangely, which puts system under unresponsive state, like infinite loop, potentially causing 100% cpu occupation (this is guess now) The printouts "Aug 24 07:45:10 ptc_lab_collab3_node17 systemd[20635]: Time has been changed" follows many times per second until node is rebooted manually. Hy Everybody. For my Work, I need an Access Point into the Bananapi M64. Hi, I'm using armbian on a FriendlyElec Zero Pi device as my wireguard server. This is a extremely cheap device and for this reason it was chosen since I don't need powerful performances. It happened that I found a tutorial that switching the Congestion Control for BBR (mine says it is cubic), would allow me to experience performance improvements. I'm not being able to change this parameter in my image already configured using: root@zeropi:~# sysctl -w net.ipv4.tcp_congestion_control=bbr The output says: sysctl: setting key "net.ipv4.tcp_congestion_control": No such file or directory net.ipv4.tcp_congestion_control = bbr U…

If i connect through this option i can login to my cubietruck. If login is successful i see only an empty desktop without elements and without a background-image. How can i solve this issue? Hello everybody, I am not using OpenMediaVault but I am trying to implement some of its feautures into my existing system based on Armbian Bullseye, running on ODROID HC-2. Is there any tutorial or HowTo available that explains steb-by-step how to install and setup auto-shutdown feauture and WOL? I'd like my odroid hc-2 shut-down when not in use (especially over night) and let it auto-start again whenever I access it via \\myhost\share or \\192.168.0.1\someshare. If that's not possible then I can live with sending a WOL magic packet manually. Any known tutorial avaible for doing this on a ODROID-HC2 ?

Hi guys, I'm playing around with two orange Pi's , a One and a Lite, and thanks to all the good work here on the forum with good success. Both OPi's are running python programs, one reads and counts buttons, and flashes some leds, and the other reads my smart meter and puts the data on a webpage. both programs are still under construction but working. The problem I need some idea's for is that both OPi's crash after running somewhere between 1 day to 6 weeks. So now I'm looking for ways to figure out why they crash so i can start working on a fix. Both OPi's run on separate adapters for power, I've been measuring the amps and voltages but there is…

I want to do some debugging in the Orange Pi Lite 2 and it requires the ability to output the kernel log to the serial console. I am using an Arduino as a TTL-to-USB serial converter (shorting the Reset and GND pins) with the TX pin from the OPi Lite 2 UART header connected to RX on the Arduino (Digital pin 0), the RX pin from OPi connected to Arduino's TX (Digital pin 1), and Ground to Ground. I tried to enable the serial console by enabling all the UART overlays in armbian-config (ruart, uart1, uart2, uart3), setting the "console" environment variable to "ttyS0,115200", setting the "loglevel" variable to "7" and disabling the login on ttyS0 by executing the …

Good day! I have made modifications to the kernel driver for the temperature sensor Dallas ds18b20 on w1 bus. Slightly corrected timings, have achieved stable operation of sensors with parasitic power, and also added the option of changing the resolution. Now you can easily set 9,10,11 or 12bit resolution, by a simple command "echo 9..12 > /sys/bus/w1/devices/28-xxxxxxx/w1-resolution". Accordingly, when you lower the resolution significantly decreased the response time of the sensor from 1100ms (whith 12bit) down to 125ms (with 9bit). My question is can I post here the modified source code of the driver, or it will violate any rights? w1 folder, after mo…

I've been having a recent issue over the last couple months where my ArmbianEvn.txt file is being overwritten thus causing Helios to hang in the boot process. Using some samples i've found on these forums, I was able to re-create my file and get the Helios back up and running and have since stored a copy so that when it happens, I can just copy and paste and back up running in no time. To date, i've had this happen to me 4 times. I'm not worried about having go through this at this point in time, but I was curious if anyone else has seen this issue or not? I've saved a couple samples of what was written into the ArmbianEnv.txt file: /var/log/armbian-ha…

I have a unique hardware setup with an ARMv8 architecture but a 32-bit 'armeabi-v7a' ABI. My goal is to install a 64-bit operating Ambian (or others, even a 64 bit Android Go if possible) system on this hardware, replacing the existing 32-bit setup. The device is a kids tablet ZIDS701 by Trayoo. The current OS is Android Go 10 32-bit. I'm kind of a newbie to firmware, so I'm reaching out to the knowledgeable members of this community for guidance and assistance in achieving this. I'm particularly interested in recommendations for a 64-bit OS that would be compatible with this setup and any steps or considerations I should be aware of during the installation process. …

Hi, I just updated my armbian current to 5.10.35 and I'm quite excited, as pwm and gpio works as with LE :) Then I tried to mount some nfs-shares from nas. Usually I only have to install nfs-common. I did that on armbian, but when I try to mount a share, I get the error message, that nfs protocol (version) is not supported. The used command work on every other system I have (desktop and rockpi). I just use 'nfs' as filesystem type - no version specified/requested. Is there something special on armbian, to have nfs support enabled?

A problem I'm having with my fresh install of Armbian Bionic on my Libre Renegade board is that I cannot use the user login due to read-only file system warnings. I've reinstalled Armbian mutiple times on multiple chips, but even the recommended A1 SD doesn't work. I'm not sure where the problem lies. Is this strictly a hardware issue? Is there any non-extensive ways to workaround or fix the problem in the terminal? I'm not too familiar with Linux terminology, but can figure out common terms. I can supply more in…

Don't get me wrong i use SAMBA because i have not played so much with NFS. I agree with you, i have my weekly battle VS. SAMBA when my NAS reboot, the remote shares do not stay in the same mounted folder after reboot. It is in (OMV). It could be you had some nice tips? It was because of that i asked ;-) I have read alot of articles about NFS. So only if you had the golden trick or something you use in the daily? Thanks.

i have a RK3399 and a samsung-860-pro-512gb when i boot with this ssd connected using this official cable (which was recommended for this model by the orange pi manufacturer), i get this in dmesg: sd 0:0:0:0: [sda] Attached SCSI removable disk sd 0:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg0 type 0 but when i do `fdisk /dev/sda` i get `fdisk: cannot open /dev/sda: No medium found` when i put this ssd in my laptop, it is working correctly. i also soldered an alternive sata cable where the 12V power was connected instead of the 5V, don't remember exactly how, but that didn't work either.

Hello, I'm trying to install Armbian using `armbian-install` on NVMe, with bootloader on eMMC. I have installed 64GB Foresee eMMC module and 256GB WD SN530 2242 SSD. When I boot from SD card, both storages are detected. Using fdisk, I made them both `dos` (mbr) partitioned. Then I invoke `armbian-install`, it proceeds without any problems using eMMC+sata/nvme/usb option, and I have now 512 MB boot partition on eMMC, the rest of eMMC space as secondary, f2fs partition, and ext4 partition nvme0n1p1 containing the rest of the system. I power the system off, take the SD card out, and boot again.. and I'm stuck in initramfs. From it, I can mount the nvme0n1p1 m…

Strange problem with armbian-config/softy/OMV But something similar has happened to me also with a simple update from armbian-config Steps to reproduce: 1. clean install of Armbian_20.02.1_Orangepi3_buster_current_5.4.20 using uart-ttl usb adapter as interface 2. I configure the network by wifi 3. apt update && apt upgrade -y 4. after the terminal update everything is still perfect and I can connect to ssh with WIFI and launch armbian-config 5. armbian-config/software/softy/OMV -> Install Results: After a coffee or two, I go back and find that the ssh connection has been closed and I can't connect. Notes: Enteri…

Hi, I normally use Proxmox on Intel Nucs (also Buster based) and also had here usbip with some USB sticks on a USB hub. Now I decided to split that up a bit and so I got some ZeroPi devices and wanted to use them as USBIP hosts kind of. So I installed the buster image and also added usbip_host module to /etc/modules. The devices are seen by the Linux on the ZeroPi in general and also /usr/sbin/usbip list -l lists them successfully. Here the dmesg output too: [ 350.174305] usb 4-1: new high-speed USB device number 6 using ehci-platform [ 350.331127] usb 4-1: New USB device found, idVendor=1a40, idProduct=0101, bcdDevice= 1.11 [ 35…

This is for those experiencing a similar issue on the Rock Pi 4B (possibly RK3399 in general) who don't have a fix yet. On Armbian Focal current for the Rock Pi 4B the sound from both HDMI and the audio jack stopped working and became undetectable to the system (Both Pulse-audio and ALSA couldn't detect anything except hdmi-sound and even then HDMI sound did not work). I fixed the issue by rolling back to the latest "current" kernel version in armbian-config (5.10.63-rockchip64). Now the system sound has gone back to normal.

It been a while since I have made custom images for the OrangePi PC Plus so things have changed a bit in the intervening period. First I made the development environment change to Ubuntu Focal, then changes to a couple of patch files to bring them into line with the new u-boot and kernel versions however I have simply lost the ability to display an Armbian splash screen during boot. In the past I had patched general-armbian-boot-logo-on-screen-center.patch and general-armbian-boot-logo-on-screen-center copy.patch to show the splash screen I required however now these patches are this patch is no longer even referenced during the build process. Now, after th…

I'm using the Odroid N2/N2+ 23.5 Jammy minimal image. I then updated and upgraded successfully. I then attempted to install MATE via tasksel (which I installed) but that immediate fails with an apt package missing error. SO then I tried to install MATE manually by: $ sudo apt install mate-desktop-environment mate-desktop-environement-extras $ reboot There didn't seem to be any display manger installed so I stalled lighdm $ sudo apt install lightdm lighdm-gtk-greeter $ reboot Then I noticed that Xserver was not installed (really, that's no a MATE dependency!!!) $ sudo aqt install xserver-xorg …

Good day, I hope i'am posting into the correct subforum, anyway i just wanted to know if the armbian OS can support a USB Webcam, because I'm writing a research about the feasibility of this OS + plus board to be an alternative to laptops to cater basic educational operations like, video conferencing(google meet) , word processing , spreadsheet and presentation workload. Apologies to my written english as it's not my native language. Thanks! Mike
