Hi All We are having a problem where on booting the /var/log is filled and uses all mmc storage space. Does anyone know how to intervene in te booting process to stop this mapping and filling up of the fs? This issue sometimes causes the device to fail to boot properly and remain inaccessible. (It may indeed be that an unclean shutdown is causing this problem). Booting up properly is essential for us and we do not want or need these logs . We send the logs over the server, so capture these anyways. This posting refers to our same issue: Any help much appreciated. Thank you for Armbian! Best wishes Eric

Hello everyone. This is my first post here. My background is software development but not very experienced in the Linux SBC world. So, I have 2x Radxa Zero 3W (not listed on Armbian) with a Rockchip 3566 MCU. And here the questions start... - why don't the Orange Pi 3B or Quartz 64B Armbian images, with the same MCU, don't work on the Radxa Zero 3W ? Aka, shouldn't an OS be portable ? I'm not expecting such of Windows, but I did expect it from Linux - what do the loaders contain exactly ? I have this situation where an older loader seems to boot with Armbian (and then shuts down) but a newer one doesn't... yet the older one doesn't work with the OS from Radxa …

Ever since I updated the BPi recently, the ramlogger stopped working. I'm regularly getting mail from the Cron Daemon saying this: /usr/lib/armbian/armbian-truncate-logs: 19: /usr/lib/armbian/armbian-truncate-logs: logrotate: not found … so, it looks like the paths are messed up since the program is definitely installed in `/usr/sbin/`.

Apologies for this noob question but I am still new to Ubunto. If a piece of software is currently available as a binary archive only and the accompanying installation advises unzipping it to "a folder" and running the software from this place I presume this is not really advisable, as would be the same in the Windows world. In which case, should I install the software in, say, /usr/share and run it from there or is it okay to just unzip it and run it out of the /home/[username]/ directory? Thanks!

Hi I'm trying to use OpiZero with a relais module. I noticed, during the boot the pins I tried (12 and 11, physical 3 resp 5) go high, which makes impossible to manage the relais module. Is it a HW/SW bug or limitation or something what can be configured somehow. I would expect the level to be "nothing" ;-) Thanks Chris

Hi all, I'm trying to port a driver built for Raspberry Zero to Banana Pi M2 Zero. The original driver is here : https://github.com/pguyot/tagtagtag-ears (it's supposed to drive the ears of a Nabaztag, which recently got resurected thanks to an Ulule campaign). My understanding is that at least half of the problem is to adapt the device tree overlay for the BPI M2 Zero. If it"s not half of the work, it's definitely required. So far I've been unsuccessful. The original DTS overlay is like this : /dts-v1/; /plugin/; / { compatible = "brcm,bcm2708"; fragment@0 { target = <&gpio>; __overlay__ { gpio_encoder_left_…

Hello everyone, I encountered a "No space left on device (28)" issue while compiling custom firmware and would like to seek your help. The firmware compilation process works fine under normal circumstances. However, after using the customize-image.sh script to install my own applications, the rootfs size became 3285 MiB, and I encountered the "No space left on device (28)" error during compilation. I modified FIXED_IMAGE_SIZE to 6G and recompiled, but the same issue persisted. After mounting the raw file, I confirmed that no additional files could be added. I suspect there’s some parameter restricting this, but I’m not sure…

Dear all, so after switching from bananian to armbian around half a year ago, I've made several updates to the bananapi server running. As the prototype server is still running with bananian, some problems just occured as I am now testing a fresh install of my web-package, including nginx, mysql, php7 / laravel and some other stuff. So what I realized was that the database, even on a fresh install, is extremely slow. I thought the newer setup with debien stretch and mariadb 10.1+ might be the problem, yet running the same on the older armbian jessie build did not change anything. I also set up a fresh virtual machine running debian stretch with two cores,…

Hi, I just got my Orange Pi Zero for a Pihole. Running with a quality PSU and a SanDisk Ultra 16GB A1 card. Everything went perfectly fine, Pihole is the DNS for LAN, while my router handles WAN DNS (DNS over TLS with Cloudflare). I'm concerned a little bit about logging. What do you recommend to keep the sd card safe. I think Pihole is logging to /var/log/ whete running for less than 24 hours I have pihole.log 3MB size, with pihole.log.1 around 2MB. Is there a way to use log2ram for this or a good practice of log rotation, writing to RAM, etc? Your help is welcome!

It doesn't differ (much). Major difference is that when you start with a Debian / Ubuntu you start with a DI (Debian Installer) and install Debian to some drive. That process is identical on all x86 Ubuntu based Linuxes. Only background / colours, configurations, perhaps an application / GRUB versions is changed ... We only provide "LIVE" image because of different hardware design / scenarios. Its more suitable this way. Once you login into Armbian, all tutorials and install cases will work the same way as they work on particular Debian / Ubuntu version https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials with rare exceptions when application does not come with arm/arm64 b…

Why is the support of the Banana M2 model on the A31c processor stopped? I am ready to become a tester. In the firmware in the "overlay" folder there are "dtbo" files for sun6i and sun8i, but they are absent sun7i-***.dtbo, which makes it impossible to work on the a31c board with sound and serial interfaces. Please return the missing files to the firmware or provide a link where you can download them.

Armbianmonitor: http://ix.io/3zoC I am using a NanoPi R1S-H3 that runs on the Allwinner-H3 CPU: https://www.friendlyarm.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=274. I flashed a copy of Armbian 21.08.1, Buster current 5.10.60 for the NanoPi R1, which has a similar H3 chip. The R1S-H3 has an onboard SDIO Wi-Fi card that requires the RTL8189ES drivers, which I have loaded in already. Unfortunately, I am unable to use the Wi-Fi card on the device. I did notice an error: "mmc2: error -22 while initializing SDIO card" which might be the cause. However, I am not too sure on how to go about resolving it. Any suggestions? Thanks in advanc…

An Orange Pi R1+ LTS is on its way to me to replace the Orange Pi R1 that currently serves as my firewall (my fibre speed has increased and 100Mbps PHYs are too slow) The board is similar to the Orange Pi R1+ except that a NIC has a different chipset. Orange Pi R1+ LTS uses Rockchip rk3328 and has 1GB DDR3 memory and two 1 Gbps NICs. Compared to the Orange Pi R1+, the Realtek RTL8211E PHY has been replaced with a YT8531C PHY. The memory is also DDR3 vs DDR4. Armbian has WIP images for the Orange Pi R1+, but not the Orange Pi R1+ LTS. I guess that this could be a good starting point if I can figure out how to change the PHY.

Hello I'm using armbian on a Neo 2 board and I wanted to use a Quectel EM05 or EC25 LTE modem with it. Actually only need the serial port to send AT-commands. My question is, are Quectel modems natively supported by armbian (QMI? MBMI? ), or do I need to add the driver manually and rebuild the image??? Thank you (Yeah, it's a noob question ) Edit: Ok, I connected to modem to the board and realized that a wwan0 interface was created. That's fine, but I actually needed the serial port ttySx in order to sen AT-commands, but there is not one available... that's actually very strange.

Can't compile my RTL8188eu driver any more since upgrade from 5.14 to 5.15. Any advice where they gone or how to fix the make file? Background: the shipped driver are broken when it comes to WPA PEAP Enterprise. The wifi module quickly overheats and stops. My current understanding is that this driver uses hardware encryption which overloads under this condition. My solution was to use these driver, that apparently don't use HW encryption: https://github.com/universam1/rtl8188eu Unfortunately, they don't compile any more now because of missing kernel files. Hi, I'm trying to use orange Pi PC+ as router with AWUS036ACS rtl8811au wireless card. I did benchmarks on PC with ubuntu 16.04 and driver from github (8812au version 4.3.20-beta). The display is initially off, so I have to run the 3 following commands, to turn it on: echo 35 > /sys/class/gpio/export echo out > /sys/class/gpio/gpio35/direction echo 5 > /sys/class/gpio/gpio35/value After that the display works just fine. (so basicly I enable the PB3 pin, change it's direction to out, and set …

For some special reason, I want to make sure bluetooth is completely disabled. I have done the following: 1. Try to run hcitool & bluetoothctl. Both commands are unavailable on the system. 2. Run "systemctl status bluetooth", it says "Unit bluetooth.service could not be found." 3. Run "service --status-all", it doesn't show bluetooth entry. I'd assume bluetooth isn't enabled, but when I run "dmesg |grep Bluetooth", it shows: [ 13.744331] Bluetooth: Core ver 2.22 [ 13.744337] Bluetooth: Starting self testing [ 13.761692] Bluetooth: ECDH test passed in 16935 usecs [ 13.764626] Bluetooth: SMP test passed in 280…

Dear all, I can successfully build an out-of-tree module on 5.9 and 5.10.x kernels, but have trouble running them since Armbian 20.11.6. This is the method of cloning I have been using for several years. Saved me lots of time. Applications: YUMI, QT5-fsarchiver, Wine, Live OS, and Sandisk USB. 1 Make a bootable-usb using YUMI. Install a live OS. I prefer PClinux Live on a sandisk USB 128/256gb or Solid-State drive. Bootup the USB and install QT5-fsarchiver using synaptic. 2 Or install QT5-fsarchiver in any PC/Laptop. 3 Plug in the Tinkerboard, or what ever, to a USB port and create a full backup image of the MMC or SD card. 4 Save the image file anywhere. 5 Restore the image using QT-fsarchiver to any memory device. Hey Gang, I'm a very novice linux user, just know enough to get around and follow instructions for the most part. I recently started getting the following error when trying to ssh to my armbian box from an up to date macbook. Unable to negotiate with <ip address> port 22: no matching host key type found. Their offer: rsa-sha2-512,rsa-sha2-256,ecdsa-sha2-nistp256,ssh-ed25519 I've read online that you can get around this with "-oHostKeyAlgorithms=+ssh-dss" temporarily, but I cant seem to find a guide on how to regenerate the host keys on armbian to match more current standards (or what I assume is ssh's up to date minimum) Doe…

I have a working Armbian SD card and I used it for some time made some changes in the system (disabled some services, installed some libraries and made new services etc...). I use this SD card with Cubieboard-3 (Cubietruck). And I have a backup of the entire root filesystem from that SD card. Now I've got second Cubieboard-3 device and I need a second SD card to boot the second device into the same OS with actual changes. The good approach would be to backup only CHANGES in some manner that would allow me to install fresh armbian to new SD card and them roll my changes to it. But instead, i started a stupid approach of doing this: just copied the entire filesystem to back…

I'm having an aggressive memory leak issue I can't place: Within 5 minutes the 4GB are full. htop and top don't show a massive program growing unbouded. `df` doesn't show a tmpfs that is too large. Only `slabtop` is imforative: OBJS ACTIVE USE OBJ SIZE SLABS OBJ/SLAB CACHE SIZE NAME 26638624 26638624 99% 0.12K 832457 32 3329828K kmalloc-128 So `kmalloc-128` is growing without bounds. As I understand it kmalloc is a collection of smaller memory allocations? I've tried using a previous kernel version (5.10.16 and 5.10.12) but nada. I've disabled docker, and that along with omv were the only services running…

Hello, I've been using a M4V2 since its release mostly as a NAS (disks over UBS 3.0). I also have it booting from a Samsung NVMe with the official NVMe hat. My setup works flawlessly however I was thinking about ways to add more storage with reasonable performance/price so I thought, what if I managed to add a standard PCIe x1 port from the pins on the board and use standard hardware with it. The idea was to add a cheap PCI switch + NVMe adapter (to boot from) and a PCI to SATA controller such as the following: 1) PCI Switch: https://www.ebay.com/itm/PCI-Express-1X-to-4X-PCI-E-4-Ports-Switch-Multiplier-Expansion-Riser-Card-New/293564888…

Hello, A while back i was using my rock64 as a media player running armbian with some success. Since a hiatus and reinstall of the latest armbian focal mainline release, the i2s output no longer works. I can get output on the 3.5mm jack, but not on the RCAs of the DAC board. We have all seen the recent release announcement of Armbian 21.08 which now includes a beta release of Debian 11 (Bullseye). I have a RockPro64 (Rockchip 3399) that is currently running Debian 10 (Buster) that I would like to upgrade, so that it gets the latest packages from Debian and continues to receive security patches. I am tempted to just upgrade it by editing /etc/apt/sources.list and pulling the latest packages (the debian way), but I wondered if there is a safer way to perform the upgrade. Has anyone else upgraded a Debian based Armbain system that way. Are there any issues to watch out for? What customisations are there in Arm…

before I used the -f option with h3disp, the framebuffer would always take the same size as the display resolution I'm setting. However, since I used the -f option once, if I now use h3disp without the -f option, the framebuffer size remains locked to what I had set before, even if the display resolution changes as requested. How can I set it back so that the framebuffer always takes the proper size when I use h3disp even without the -f option?

Dear members of the forums. I am shopping for a new single board computer, already have a few manufacturers, but I am not sure yet. Couple years ago I bought BPI-M2U from Sinvoip, and I regretted that soon. Sinvoip was not providing good documentation nor open source contributions of drivers. So to avoid the same situation, I'd like to ask which manufacturers are co-share, contribute to open source and don't sell boards with schematic errors? Orange Pi (4) Khadas (Vim3) Friendly Elec (m4) Odroid (N2) Thank you in advance and sorry if this is not the right forum.

Installed Armbian to SD-card-1. Booted Cubietruck from it: works great. Made some changes in system and wanted that changes to another SD card, so I copied entire root ( / ) filesystem from SD-card-1 to my-armbian.tar.gz. There is better ways of doing this: dd or another make-image-software or better remember my changes related to original Armbian and made that changes in new system. But lets consider my stupid way:) Got new SD card: SD-card-2. Created partition table with 1 partition. Made ext4fs on that 1 partition. Unpacked my the filesystem to the partition. Used gparted and set flag BOOT. SD-card-2 didnt booted. I realized that i need U-Boot on it. …

Are there any plans to add support for the MCP7940 real-time clock? It's much cheaper than the DS1307 and mostly compatible. The biggest difference is Reg0b7 which is "Clock-Halt" in the 1307 but "STart" in the 7940. The 7940 also has some extra register bits like OSCEN which are default 0 in the 1307. I tried naively enabling the rtc-ds1307 module and it didn't work. An actual DS1307 chip worked immediately (just hot-plugging the break-out boards while executing "hwclock -rf /dev/rtc1"). The actual error I get is: "Timed out while waiting for the time to change", "The Hardware Clock registers contain values that are either invalid (e.g. 50th day o…

Hi, I'm using armbian on a FriendlyElec Zero Pi device as my wireguard server. This is a extremely cheap device and for this reason it was chosen since I don't need powerful performances.
