We are opening public testing for upcoming Armbian images. The goal is to verify that the right images are built and that basic functionality works before boards are moved to the main download pages. You don’t need to be a developer. Simple testing and short reports are enough. 1. Download testing images Testing images are available here: https://fi.mirror.armbian.de/incoming/igorpecovnik/ Pick the image matching your board and choose desktop if applicable. Once image is confirmed working, the board will be: Moved to the main download pages Added to Armbian Imager 2. Check that expected images exist Before testing, please ver…

Hello. using Armbian 5.16 opipc+ I have used ''create launcher'' from the desktop to be able to connect to wpa2 wifi. I have rebooted around 6 times and is working each time. I have to launch two in series. first starts wpa_supplicant second starts dhclient success!. I tried adding them to the startup,(wishful thinking) so. each time i run them from the desktop, it launches terminal and asks for PW. because command has and requires sudo. does anybody know how i can get around this?, it would be amazing if i could have them auto run, next best would be without terminal asking for PW. no i don't know how to write scripts. I'm …

The "Edit Device" wordpress template ("https://www.armbian.com/wp-admin/...") has some input fields that I would like to understand. I am trying to complete it for the MKS-Klipad50 (https://www.armbian.com/mks-klipad50). (It's a CSC board, not standard support - if that matters.) Following fields are unclear to me: "Compatible" What is the meaning and expected syntax? Is that something like devices using the same kernel, but different setup/devicetree files? "Expose kernels" / "How many kernels to expose?" Is this related to the "Kernels" table (see below), like how many rows to use? …

Current main Armbian build hardware is a desktop based "server" running Ubuntu Xenial - i7 4790 / 16 / SSD. We already made lots's of optimisations within the build process but for 140 images I still need up to 14 hours where kernels were already cached. How is it possible to cut this time down significantly - to few hours, perhaps on a server grade hardware and further code optimisations? Currently I don't have access to any much better hardware to just run "build all" and see. I am looking for specific ideas for a build server upgrade and sponsored rent / exchange for advertisement. I was already advised by a friend, who knows something about server hardware: "J…

Current status: build script is mostly working, I'm fixing minor issues before making a github commit: - avoid hardcoded dependencies - make sure OpenGL apps can be built on target system Once these are resolved, I'll post a link to my commit for an eventual review and will be ready to create a pull request. ---------- Unrelated topic: armbian build script fixes for Debian Jessie Although only Ubuntu distribution is supported by armbian build scripts, Debian sid and above have all the necessary packages and should work fine. 5.0x Lamobo R1 / Banana Pi M2 jessie next 4.4.3 As described in this thread http://forum.armbian.com/index.php/topic/691-banana-pro-testers-wanted-sata-drive-not-working-on-some-boards/?p=5641 /etc/rc.local successfully controls the Banana Pi M2's red, green and blue LEDs and the Lamobo R1's green LED. But how to control the behavior of the Lamobo R1's red LED? At the moment, Armbian 5.0x, the red LED doesn't turn off after shutdown. An older image, I'm still using, I guess 4.8x or 4.9x, turns the red LED off after shutdown by default without any manual configuration. I'm using a green heartbeat as workaround to indicate the power status but I would appreciate to us…

Hi, running Armbian Ubuntu on Nanopi Neo2 and it is working really great. I would like to implement HPN-SSH but I can't compile any of the OpenSSH versions against OpenSSL 1.1.x present on system. Any idea if OpenSSL 1.1.x can be safely downgraded to the latest OpenSSL 1.0.x release? I would use for example the method described here Not sure if OpenSSL 1.0.x would break anything on the system or not? Thanks for your help and advise!

Hi, I have two meson64 SBCs where one is Khadas VIM 3 and the other is Odroid N2. They have been running almost the same setup and there has been minor differences with time. For the past months, I have had issues with the error Illegal instruction for my Odroid N2 server. I did a clean install earlier today (Armbian_23.02.2_Odroidn2_jammy_current_6.1.11) without success. For instance, I often face the error when running cryptsetup benchmark. Most of the time I have to reboot multiple times, reinstall cryptsetup packages, try the armhf packages and more. I have never had the same issue with Khadas VIM 3. The issue seems to be related to argon2i and…

From time to time I searched for a somewhat precise power meter that produces not only a simple visual output but data that can be integrated into a monitoring system (be it RPi-Monitor, SNMP or something else). The ODROID Smart Power looked somewhat promising but was rather expensive and seems to be sold out in the meantime. Zador told me some time ago some details about different ADC measurements with Lime2, I checked this some days ago when combining Lime2 with a H3 board and am now thinking about simply using a Banana Pro to be used as such a power meter since I'm currently preparing measurements of a few H3 boards to arrive soon (see for some preparations this th…

Hi all, please be aware that Pine folks in the meantime understood that recommendations to use WinDisk32Imager, dd and other non verifying burning tools are wrong, tried to recommend Etcher instead (as usual sabotaged by at least their most famous forum moderator) and now use finally a 'branded' Etcher 2.0 beta: https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=4481&pid=27520#pid27520 I don't think it's correct to do it this way (and at least the macOS application sucks since not digitally signed and using a wrong so called 'bundle identifier') but anyway. Let's take this for a foresight. Etcher 2.0 uses catalog files in such a way: http:…

I have been playing around the Rock Pi S from radxa, and am stumbling at enabling the I2S output using a device tree overlay. (Building using current Armbain that uses @piter75's kernel branch) As per the data sheet and pinout, `i2s_8ch_0` should be broken out to the GPIO, but I don't seem to be getting far enabling it via the device tree. Any inputs? This is what I am playing around with atm, but `dmesg` doesn't show anything helpful atm, and no "I2S-Card" device turns up. Tried disabling the inbuilt audio codec ( connected to `i2s_8ch_2`), but still no dice. The closest example I could find was from `rk3308-ai-va-v10.dts`, that similarly enables the `i2s_8…

The bug/vulnerability sits inside the firmware blobs but I didn't pay that much attention since I thought it would be related to recent smartphones and at least the one I use still receives full security fix support now in the 5th year. But when I heard that latest Raspbian release contains a fix for BroadPwn (RPi 3 and Zero W use BCM43438 to provide wireless capabilities) I asked myself immediately a question: http://www.cnx-software.com/2017/08/17/raspbian-for-raspberry-pi-boards-gets-upgraded-to-debian-stretch/#comment-545270 …

Hi, could anyone provide a kernel (e.g. 4.3.3) with the patch for CVE-2016-0728? Or can anyone tell me how to patch and build the kernel - i only know the official way via "git an ./compile" described here in the manuals. The patch can be found here: https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=23567fd052a9abb6d67fe8e7a9ccdd9800a540f2 Regards, A.

Hello All, To all striking with sdcard issues , I have a good news today! NORMAL AND FIGHTING WAY Normally you put your sdcard on a adapter on a big computer you have flashed with a working and booting sbc to be able to flash the emmc and then you copy the .img.xz you have downloaded on it , put the card in the sbc and boot on it to have access to the dd command from there. Unfortunately the result will depend on your sdcard quality, I experienced many bad block so I get bored. Yesterday have a flash, LET'S TAKE THE BUNNY HIGHWAY! I found a way faster and safer to do it to circonvent the sdcard: tempfs! …

Greetings, everyone I decided to try armbian for my recently acquired cubox-i4pro. Unfortunately it was missing some kernel modules that I require. No problem, it is easy enough to change the kernel configuration and recompile! Debian Jessie (main system) is even listed as a working development environment, so I thought I would test the included compile script using the instructions from the github. I had recently completed some cross-compilation (for armel, not armhf), so I manually updated the dependencies and read through instructions and looked through the script before getting started. First I compiled the kernel only with the following settings: KERNEL…

A small patch addressing some power monitoring related issues: 1. The script was always writing to the "REG 82H: ADC Enable 1" register (on each login). 2. The value being written (0xC3, raising bit 6) was overwriting the old one, wiping out other bits that may have been enabled. On my cubietruck for instance it defaults to 0xFF, not 0x83, so that "i2cset" call was effectively disabling/zeroing the /sys/class/power_supply/ac/current_now thing that I use for calculating and graphing the power usage in munin. 3. Raising that flag (bit 6, Battery current ADC enable) seems irrelevant to the bash.bashrc.custom script, as it doesn't appear to read that curren…

I've been trying to build a nanopiduo2 firmware for the last couple of days, and I keep getting an error on the 048-humanity-icon-theme_0.6.15_all.deb. It says corrupted filesystem tarball. I don't know where to report this. Is this a packaging error in Armbian or Ubuntu? I'm trying to build the bionic firmware. Any suggestions on getting around this error would be much appreciated.

I installed the linux-image-dev-sunxi64 and linux-dtb-dev-sunxi64 packages, which pulls in the 5.1.5 kernel, and it seems something is amiss in the pinebook dtb. On the 4.19 kernel, pwm-backlight powers on, and you get video output, however, on 5.1.5 once u-boot loads the kernel and it is starting, video output goes away. In the 4.19 kernel, the kern.log shows the following output during boot: May 29 19:15:10 localhost kernel: [ 3.937999] EXT4-fs (mmcblk0p1): mounted filesystem with writeback data mode. A while ago we added some logic to set LINUXFAMILY=sunxi in /etc/armbian-release and this breaks completely the IRQ affinity settings in /etc/init.d/armhwinfo (prepare_board function). Sunxi boards upgrading to 5.35 get slower with some use cases unless a fix in 5.36 is provided (though I've no idea how the fix should look like) It seems board support packages on apt.armbian.com have been built a few days ago not containing latest fixes. Is this possible?

Hello, I'm new in this forum with my Banana Pro I got on christmas. Before I used a Raspberry so I gained a little experience with Linux. For Raspberry nearly every question is asked and answers you could find a lot in internet. But the BananaPi is quite new and so sometimes it is hard to find answers. First I tried to get my Terratec H5 to work and after a lot of research I found out that I need an other driver. Unfortunately the driver "em2884" (still do not know if it works) could not found within Armbian an the odyssey began because I have to compile a kernel. I red a lot of sites to understand what compilin a kernel means, about modules and config. Un…

First a very big "Thank you", Igor. You create wonderful images. But now the problem. I want to boot the A20 from an eMMC Flash. I use a HAOYU New MarsBoard A20 Dev Board. The reason: the CM-A10/A20 PCB has a footprint for an eMMC. So the 8GB NAND was removed and replaced by a 2GB eMMC. Then I took the Pecovnik Olimex Lime2 Jessie 3.4.108 image and added the fex file from the MarsBoard SD image. After a fex2bin the MarsBoard bootet from SD0. Life was beautiful. The problems start if I wanted to contact the eMMC. I changed "[nand_para] nand_used" to 0. And I changed "[mmc2_para] sdc_used" to 1. Then the kernel gets in serious problems: <6>[mmc-msg] sdc2 se…

Finally got a SPI connected DS3234 RTC for my BananaPi working! Main problem was that a patch is needed to get SPI master mode working reliably on A20: https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/9567833/ @Igor/staff: it would make Armbian even better than it already is if you could apply this patch on all A20 boards Setup: BananaPi (bought back in 2015 so not exactly sure which "flavour" it is, specs are equal to BPI-M1) DS3234 RTC (SparkFun DeadOn RTC Breakout DS3234) Mainline kernel (4.10 currently) Armbian build/devopment (of course ) Note: wiring and base of DTS according to Science Gizmo - Raspberry PI and your SPI Rea…

But, why H5 doesn't react the same as A64 ? I will have to wait until issue re-appear to dig further in /var/log/syslog , maybe tomorrow ! BTW, Zador, the -EINVAL seen on "date" command is only shown when symptom occurred, not after reboot... (let's wait tomorrow to see) As I said, I suspect "systemd" compatiblilty issue here. Hi all! I need to back to an older kernel version that I had used past year. In my PC, I conserve without any kind of changes, the working directory used to run compile.sh. If I did not missunderstood my Armbian documentation reading, there is an option to tell compilation process that don't try to upgrade sources files before compile (touch .ignore_changes). Am I right? And, if it's fine, Could somebody please explain me where and how must I apply these parameter? Thanks in advances! Edit: You could ask. Hi, I need to modify the kernel to enable the USB networking ability for my network of development boards. (currently 1master & 10servers) we need to use usb connections for networking functionalities. My question: is it possible to modify the linux kernel without compiling a whole image from scratch. We are now developing a network of mashines and are thinking ahead, doing some planning, to reduce our workload in the future and for avoiding the need to reinstall all the OSes on the whole network. Optimally we would never need to reinstall an image /only reboot a mashine and do meaningful changes on the kernel over ssh. Metaphoricallly speaking…

On Orange Pi One, Lite and NanoPi M1 we currently have the ability to let VDD_CPUX voltage switch between 1.1V and 1.3V. With our current settings we switch at 912MHz CPU clockspeed from 1.1V to 1.3V. The higher the clockspeed the higher VDD_CPUX (this is the voltage the CPU cores are fed with) has to be to let the SoC work reliable. But on the other hand the higher VDD_CPUX is set the hotter the SoC gets and the earlier throttling will jump in. So knowing at which clockspeed H3 still works reliable at the lowest possible VDD_CPUX voltage (in the case of the aforementioned boards only 1.1V or 1.3V are available) can help with overall performance since throttling gets m…

Hi all, Please excuse what you may feel is an ignorant question. I may not be posting in the right forum topic, but I'm a newbe struggling to ditch the tyranny of Windows after 40 years and move over to Linux. This is my first use of an Armbian image. The HardKernal site specifically says the board capable of this and OMV has appropriate supporting menu options. I've added the RTC shield pcf8563 hardware (with a good battery), but like so many I've not been able to get the system to recognize the clock on RTC0; it times out wa…

Hello. I'm building an armbian image and want to add some partitions to the result disk. I use the post_create_partitions hook to do that. The documentation doesn't show how to use it, so I looked at the armbian's sources: https://github.com/armbian/build/blob/99815c0a8880d4e04fc64742412632e1d41c1334/lib/functions/image/partitioning.sh#L206 Here they create a string and pass it to sfdisk. In my hook I do a similar row to add two partitions: echo -ne "label:dos\nsize=1G\nsize=1G\n+\n" | sfdisk -a "${SDCARD}".raw --no-reread || exit_with_error "Partition fail." But building of the image fails with message: No free sectors available. Failed to add #3 partition…

What do we have? Serial connection: Hardware schematics: orangepi-plus-h3-v1_1.pdf Wireless: Realtek RTL 8189 ETV Allwinner introduced new way of storing board definitions (also on A23 and A80) so it's a bit different than on A20 boards. I prepared new kernel based on recent H3 Allwinner code. Code was found here: https://github.com/friendlyarm/h3_lichee than it was cleaned and moved to my repository: https://github.com/igorpecovnik/linux -b sun8i On the top there are additional 100+ patches. I am still working on patches so they are not online yet, but you can try first build and compare to old kernel. Download deb package (dpkg -i linux-image-sun8i_5.07_armhf.deb) Patches regarding thermal, video mode changing and camera are missing. They need further inspection and adjustments.

I tried to used AppArmor under the Linux cubietruck 4.4.1-sunxi #10 SMP Wed Feb 17 17:57:20 CET 2016 armv7l GNU/Linux. But I get a kernel panic after i rebooted the system. Some questions: 1. Did you integrate AppArmor into the kernel? 2. Did you use an alternative mandatory access control? 3. Need I an additional kernel argument in the /boot/boot.cmd other than these "apparmor=1 security=apparmor"? 4. Is there a major diffenrece between your kernel and that from danad.de? Unluckily I was not capable of getting a dump from the kernel panic. If you need it, I would take a photo.

I am working on support for the ClockworkPi Gameshell main board. I have patches for the kernel, but it seems that the build system applies kernel patches on a "per family" basis. Indeed, looking at the 'kernel-patch.sh' script it seems the BOARD and TARGET variables that would let board specific patches work are commented out. I've read through the example PR's in the docs, but don't see an example of how applying board specific patches should work. I fear that if I put the patches into the normal flow, it will get applied to other boards within the sunxi family and things may break for other boards. Should kernel patches be crafted in a way that they SHOULD …

the main proposal of this research is to enable cached apt archives for docker build. first apt cache can be saved by a docker volume, but due to `${SDCARD}/var/cache/apt/archives` is not a constant, then we can't use `-v=apt-cache:${SDCARD}/var/cache/apt/archives` to enable it. so I use `-v=apt-cache:/root/.apt` as a tmp place for apt cache, when need `apt install` in `${SDCARD}`, use `mount -o bind /root/.apt ${SDCARD}/var/cache/apt/archives` and after install finishes, `umount ${SDCARD}/var/cache/apt/archives` this looks perfect, but after I check /root/.apt, everything is gone. I double checked whether *.deb are saved to…

You may have read about the recent (one month ago, but hey, what's a month between friends?) security vulnerabilities discovered in dnsmasq. They have been patched in version 2.78 and, quoting the author: This is a bugfix release, and, amongst other things, addresses a set of serious security vulnerabilities. Update should be mandatory. The dnsmasq shipped with Armbian is a rather old 2.75 and it is enabled by default, so I see this as a rather significant risk. I have compiled the latest version and installed it by hand, following the instructions located here (obviously, with 2.78 instead of 2.76). Is there any chance of getting this package updated in …

I'm just starting out with Armbian development, and the most recent "stable" version (5.20, v2016.09) doesn't compile. Is this supposed to work? olaf@tackd:~$ mkdir routertest olaf@tackd:~$ cd routertest/ olaf@tackd:~/routertest$ olaf@tackd:~/routertest$ git clone -b v2016.09 https://github.com/igorpecovnik/lib Cloning into 'lib'... remote: Counting objects: 19756, done. remote: Compressing objects: 100% (155/155), done. remote: Total 19756 (delta 75), reused 0 (delta 0), pack-reused 19601 Receiving objects: 100% (19756/19756), 173.96 MiB | 1003.00 KiB/s, done. Hi guys, Given the not so great durability of SD cards (and limited storage...I try to keep everything on NFS mounts, but there's always some log that decides to randomly fill the SD card full of crap), and the incapability of run properly docker (it runs, but it NEEDS to use damn local storage, and won't take an NFS mount for some reason...it gets full real quick), I was considering to boot to a iSCSI target. This would let me expand storage anytime I need, plus it would make backup and snapshots a piece of cake. Is there a way to do this?

Hi, I have a board Orange Pi Zero with modified PAs for power of WiFi module from PA20 to PA02, by soldering a connection on board. This is done to allow connection of I2C DAC. I see that board definition in 'u-boot/configs/orangepi_zero_defconfig' It uses dts definition of: 'arch/arm/dts/sun8i-h2-plus-orangepi-zero.dts' I need to modify one section of this dts file from: reg_vcc_wifi: reg_vcc_wifi { compatible = "regulator-fixed"; regulator-min-microvolt = <3300000>; regulator-max-microvolt = <3300000>; regulator-name = "vcc-wifi"; enable-active-high; gpi…
