I've done a discovery : when using current Armbian overlays in 5.0.y thru dynamic loading (aka : /sys/kernel/config/devices-tree/overlays) , although working, it produced the following warning in "dmesg" : WARNING: memory leak will occur if overlay removed Example, loading i2c overlays produce : [ 80.494728] OF: overlay: WARNING: memory leak will occur if overlay removed, property: /aliases/i2c0 [ 80.494745] OF: overlay: WARNING: memory leak will occur if overlay removed, property: /aliases/i2c1 [ 80.494752] OF: overlay: WARNING: memory leak will occur if overlay removed, property: /aliases/i2c2 [ 80.494789] OF: overlay: WARNING: memor…

Hello everyone, I have a screen of 1280x800 resolution. while connecting the screen to my rockpi-4b, the resolution is set to 1024x768, and there is no 1280x800 option in the display setting panel. after learning from Internet for days, I think the root is that my screen doesn't have a correct EDID information. so I made some changes to let the kernel ignores the screen's edid information and use specified edid file. The resolution is successfully set to 1280x800, the only problem is that the screen display is shaking, as the attached video shows. The edid file's timing settings are shown as below: I tried to change the settings but it doesn't wo…

During all my board migrations under 5.0.y, I've seen that copying OS into eMMC using "nand-sata-install", it now much faster !!! I don't know if it 5.0.y related or if some tweaks have been done to "nand-sata-install", but time shrink from 20minutes to 4 or 5minutes...

This weekend I was revising and testing the OV5640 for some A64 boards. To enable the Camera (OV5640) on NanoPi A64 for the mainline kernel you have to update the following: * DT * GPIO-I2C Here is the excerpt : Spoiler { model = "FriendlyARM ..."; . . reg_vcc3v3: vcc3v3 { compatible = "regulator-fixed"; regulator-name = "vcc3v3"; regulator-min-microvolt = <3300000>; regulator-max-microvolt = <3300000>; }; cam_xclk: cam-xclk { #clock-cells = <0>; compatible = "fixed-clock"; clock-frequency = <24000000>; …

I can compile the kernel 4.14 for H3 , modify the device tree and then put this to my bananapi M2 ultra with R40 Core and can enable the HDMI connector success. I get an image on the screen on my monitor. But now I can enable the LCD (RGB pinouts port H) to get image on my display 7" but I do not know how to do on the device tree file to enable a PANEL or something more . Someone have a device tree file that have enable the LCD (RGB ouput) to take an example to know how to do that because on the web almost all the people usually use the hdmi connector. FYI - seeing the following error on completion of a build... I suspect it's transient since it just seems to be verifying the image... "Re-reading the partition table failed.: Invalid argument" Image build seems to otherwise complete successfully. Haven't tested the image yet. This was building a BPi image for Jessie using the "next" (latest) kernel.

First of all, happy 2017! May Armbian be the great OS it is, forever more. Now, I wanted to compile Armbian from scratch so I can see if I manage to hardcode some overscan into the tv module (it seems there's no way around it), but for some reason I can't seem to get the compilation going. I downloaded ubuntu, put it in a VM (so fresh, aside from VMWare guest tools) with 60GB storage, got it up to date, and tried to compile Armbian (since I don't know how to compile a single module). Steps taken: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get install git git clone https://github.com/igorpecovnik/lib --depth 1 cp lib/compile.sh . sudo ./compile.sh Then "Ke…

Hi, not sure if this problem is related to Armbian, but in my case it occurs only on an Armian system. I have mainline kernel (4.7.x) running on a Banana Pro. wlan is configured as access point and works without any problems. eth0 is configured as client with static IP. The Banana is running 24/7, but the ethernet port is used only sporadically. The switch where eth0 is connected to is powered down most time. The problem is that eth0 forgets its IP configuration after a while, ifconfig then reports no IP address for eth0. I have to login via wlan and then ifdown/ifup eth0, then it works again. After a couple of hours (I dont know exactly how long), the IP is lost again. …

Hi Pulled latest git repo and build mainline image (Ubuntu/Debian both) 4.9.2-sun8i kernel. Eth0 now stuck at 100mb/s and half duplex. I have tried using ethertool to make it full duplex. Not working. The previous image which I used and suggested was Armbian_5.24.170109_Orangepizero_Ubuntu_xenial_4.9.0 This image works with full duplex. Is this a bug or there is more configs needed when I building my own images? Since I've been asked recently why Armbian doesn't ship with F2FS by default I thought let's have a look again what to gain from F2FS (a filesystem specially designed for use with flash media by Samsung few years ago). For a history of F2FS discussion please use the search function: https://forum.armbian.com/index.php?/search/&q=f2fs Armbian fully supports F2FS partitions for a long time now but we don't provide OS images with F2FS for a couple of reasons: F2FS still doesn't support resizing so our default installation variant (ship with a minimized rootfs that gets resized on first boot automagically to the size of SD card / eMMC) wouldn't wo…

It's a good idea, but it still leaves a question of loading u-boot and kernel/script.bin/initrd initially. If SPL doesn't want to boot from available SD card this won't help much... ... unless FEL is used to "bootstrap" the process. Just for experiment I compiled sunxi-fel for Windows and installed libUSB driver in single click with Zadig tool. So we could provide an application/set of scripts for Linux and Windows to do this.

Hi all, since we're currently collecting tasks to be done by community to get a nice board (OPi Plus 2E) in return I thought I sum up where we currently are regarding working H3 OS images with mainline kernel: Our main showstoppers for releasing H3 images with mainline kernel are still: missing/non-working THS stuff (see explanation here), native Ethernet driver not finished and a few minor bits. My last attempt to check situation has been a few days ago. Since megi rebased his THS stuff (also containing the various USB and Ethernet patches) I chose his 4.6 branch to give it a try (see commit 224550b). Unfortunately I ran into kernel panics when testing on my …

Built an Edge/Jammy firmware for a rk3588s2 based system(Radxa CM5). Panthor firmware for GPU G610 is not the right version though in this image. So after boot changed the firmware file, in the /lib/firmware/arm/mali/arch10.8/ folder, to the right version. Reboot produces the same problem though. It does not see the modified file, but still the original, wrong, one. With boot complete and going to the firmware folder the changed firmware is there. I presume that the changes I make end up in an overlay that only is mounted after the boot process. Rewriting the whole 6 GB image, just to change one file, is a bit cumbersome. Is there a way to chan…

When ./compile.sh command is used to compiling a new Armbian version (especially with some source changes for debugging), in case there was an error during compilation, it can be impossible to find real reason of the problem. Log files located in output/debug folder are not very informative - they just show the last message, which also appears on the screen - failed in script line number . The following command was used to get full log of the compilation process: command | tee -a log.txt Hope this will be useful for somebody else (newbie), who like me spent a lot of time trying to understand, why the compilation failed after some changes in kernel configuration.

Hi all, I have a bit of an odd application, but given the recent effort being put into UEFI boot, I thought I'd ask for some help. I have a Gigabyte R152-P30, which is an Ampere 80 core, single socket server. Flash drive boot works just fine, but nand-sata-install onto the server's NVMe SSD has been troublesome. I've tried several permutations of having partitions and not having partitions on the NVMe drive, but none seem to actually create a bootable result. I see on the generic armbian image page that it suggests creating an EFI partition which I do (nvme0n1p1). It then proceeds to leave that partition empty. I also have another btrfs…

I would like to rebuild ffmpeg, and mpv with additional build options. Is there a posted how-to ? The build environment is different. I am used to pulling down the package source, modify , recompile and build the updated package. Also how would I add plexmedia player to the Armbian build ? I have it working.. just need to add hardware acceleration to ffmpeg and mpv before I package it up and get it into the Armbian build.

Hello, I'm building a device driver which controls gpio pins. When I developed one in the kernel 3.x, I could get the proper gpio pin number from script.fex(converted from script.bin in /boot/bin/ folder) For example, if the pin I'm using is PB03, I was able to use 3 to control that pin in device driver program. gpio_pin_1 = port:PH10<1><default><default><0> gpio_pin_2 = port:PH20<1><default><default><0> gpio_pin_3 = port:PB03<0><default><default><default> However, from kernel 4.x, script.bin file is not used anymore. Instead of this, there is a dtb file, but I have no idea where I can…

Hi guys, Since I'm out of GPIOs I would like to reuse the Debug UART0 RX/TX in "release" if no serial module is attached. I'm using a nanopi Duo2 but that question applies to the general strategy. The NanoPi UART0 RX can be used as PA5, PWM output. I did already play successfully with overlay files for other purposes so I know a little how that works. Can I create a overlay with shared usage, and depending on the loaded module (tty*) the RS232 is operating, or when this is stopped i can use the PWM out? Is this "Shared overlay" in general the right approach? If yes could someone point me to some hints ho…

Please move this message to correct folder, if I used the wrong one. There is a grave bug in the ext4 FS, which was introduced in kernel around 6.1.55 and is fixed in kernel 6.1.66. I've come across a warning in a guide for RaspiOS (link below) suggesting that firmware upgrades could disrupt the RAID setup. Robert Alexa's Guide on GitHub Given this, I have a few questions about handling Armbian kernel updates in a similar RAID configuration: How are kernel updates managed in Armbian when using RAID for the root filesystem, and are there any known issues similar to the one described in the guide? What precautions should I take when applying apt upgrade to ensure that my RAID remains bootable? Is…

I managed to write H3 HDMI driver for mainline U-Boot. Source can be found here: https://github.com/jernejsk/u-boot You should also add CONFIG_VIDEO=y to defconfig for your board. It should work nicely for standard resolutions (720p, 1080p). Other resolutions might work, but some additional work needs to be done. Currently, this can be used for working with U-Boot (instead of serial console) or splash screen.

Would be anyone interested helping me collecting or making kernel fixes for H3? I already collect some fixes here: https://github.com/jernejsk/linux Question remains what to do with out of tree drivers like mali and wireless. I will probably add those which can be found in most SBCs. Igor, what is the plan with mali driver? Would be r4p0 acceptable? Userspace libraries can be found here.

I came across Icenowy's patchset for current stable Linux version (currently 4.13) here. Since it contains almost every out of tree functionality for 32 bit Allwinner SoCs, should we just use it here? But beware, at least HDMI functionality there lags a bit - Armbian uses newer patches with audio enabled...
-
@zador.blood.stained I think Icenowy's linux git is only A64 oriented. For example, she added non-optional regulator to HDMI driver, which doesn't exist on OrangePi PC2. There may be more hidden issues...

Hi all, I'm using armbian on a cubietruck for various purposes. One of them is HAM radio. BUt I just noticed we don't have support for AX25. In fact, we're missing all HAM-related stuff, so I think it isn't possible to build just the modules: # CONFIG_HAMRADIO is not set What I would need is this: CONFIG_HAMRADIO=y # # Packet Radio protocols # CONFIG_AX25=m # # AX.25 network device drivers # CONFIG_MKISS=m # uname -a Linux cubie.acasa.local 4.3.3-sunxi #3 SMP Mon Dec 28 11:27:16 CET 2015 armv7l GNU/Linux Thanks for your support. I put some fresh armbian buster image to my cubieboard (1). Although no (real) application was installed, a load of around 20-30% could be seen. First I located the K-worker problem on A20 based boards thread and blacklisted sun4i_gpadc and sun4i_gpadc_iio. But after removing my display and booting the system still there was some kworker load almost stopping the system every 5-10 seconds. Digging deeper I found a description and a possible solution of the problem. Looking a my Olimex A20 Lime2 which I am currently testing with the new olimage by Olimex because of the never solved gigabit problems of my board, the same behaviour could be seen. The modules sun4i…

Good morning all, how are you?. I'm looking for help on knowing about the buffer strength on an H3 board, I've been looking on the H3 SoC datasheet and found this about GPIO's: Buffer Strength defines drive strength of the associated output buffer. but I don't know if the buffer is the entire port or not because I can't find any other reference to it and I don't want to fry the board. Can anyone explain me this?. Thanks in advance dor the help.

Hey , I need to get the official source code for the last stable version of armbian for orangepi (mainly the kernel): https://www.armbian.com/orangepi/ meaning version 4.19.y by the given link, but as I look at the source code in github, all I can find are tags and commits for 4.14 and 4.20. Is there a way to find the commit with the source code for the official release in the given link?

Igor, to add some applications ( for example, https://github.com/Freescale/gstreamer-imx), it would be nice to have the possibility, to enter at some point into the chroot, and compiling software, and installing it. Or, add a "just mount exisiting image" function to your scripts. For example, base image is finished, and then I can use a function, that unpack, mount, the existing image, and allow "the costumer" to enter into chroot. What do you think? Peter

Hello, i was wondering, how Armbian images are different compared to official orangepi images available on their webiste? clearly, orangepi official images are not well maintained or regularly updated, but what's armbian policy here? are official images using proprietary drivers that armbian doesn't? for example, mali450 (on H5) for armbian is not available, is it the same on official images? what the difference? avoiding non-free software?

Lets say I wish to creat three kernels with different timer settings like 100Hz/250Hz/1000Hz. The name of the generated SDcatd image is always the same which is not helpful. When I want to use them later as well for a multiboot scenario, so swtchable kernels, I need as well different names, so it is not only to rename the image files. USing Menuconfig, I could normally put a localization extension to it...when I do this, the image creation process fails as the system looking into wrong folder names. So, is there an alrernative path ? Or is this a bug ?

Hi, I'm trying to solve a problem here. I have a Pine64so board with LTE module plugged into the USB and a battery back up. With the battery drained to 0%, the board will not boot up with the LTE module plugged into the USB port even with a microUSB power supply, because LTE is drawing too much power. But with the battery slightly charged or the LTE module unplugged it boots up just fine. I know that USB power is enabled by the u-boot, because with the Armbian SD card ejected, when I plug in the microUSB power supply, the board doesn't automatically provide power to the USB port, and the battery charges by default. So I'm trying to figure out where in the uboo…

Armbian is written to a µSD card as a small file (a gig or two if I recall). If the card is 64gigs, the image is still just a few gigs written to that card. When booted on the device, though, it automatically expands the file system to the full size of the card. How exactly does it do that? And... How do I do the reverse? Take the file system from a working armbian install and create a small image that when written to a µSD card, will stay small, but then auto-expand when booted on a device?

I am having trouble with my SPI LCD, which uses driver panel-mipi-dbi It works great when I use a minimal Armbian image, but with a desktop image it doesn't work. This is because package "plymouth" does something in the ko loading order: it loads panel-mipi-dbi too early. Plymouth provides a graphical boot animation. The driver depends on a binary file /lib/firmware/panel-mipi-dbi-spi.bin (but the file name could change depending on the DTS) At boot time, I saw that the panel-mipi-dbi.ko is loaded BEFORE the EXT4 in the microSD is mounted... and the binary file is not in the initrd.img-version (checked with lsinitramfs) …

Hi. I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask. I was basically running my Radxa Rock 5 ITX home server on Armbian, on the edge upstream kernel for a long time. Somewhere during the 6.19 release candidate kernel series an instability arised, where the machine would hard lock "at random", so I switched to the current kernel since, which to this day remains on unaffected 6.18. But from time to time I try with edge again, and the instability is still present with the 7.1 upstream kernels. Moreover, with the load the machine has I can consistently trigger the lock up just by ssh-ing into the machine once it's been up for 10 minutes or …
