The topic of Stretch came up in the Odroid C2 Mainline testing thread, and turns out we don't have a thread about making Stretch available. I've done some testing with several boards using the Upgrading Debian Jessie to Stretch thread and had great success. But, I wanted to start a discussion about what is needed to get official Stretch support in place. I have several projects where I need to use Stretch instead of Jessie, so I'm exited to help try and contribute where I can. I also wanted to discuss the idea of possibly making two stretch images: one using systemd and one using openrc (which is supported in Stretch). 99% of the work is identical, the only ma…

Hello! I have orange pi zero. I want to install a "clean" operating system - Debian. How can I build a kernel with the necessary drivers, modules and install. Does anyone have any experience installing? The image downloaded from the website debian.org I apologize in advance for bad English.

Hi all, there is an issue with SPI on a Banana Pro (A20). I am on mainline kernel 4.5.5 now, but the problem already occurred on 3.4.109. SPI transfers are way to slow for my application, independently from the SPI clock. Investigating the SPI signals it turned out that there is an enormous delay between CS going active (low) and the transmission starting. The delay is in the magnitude of 10...20 usec which is a large multiple of the pure transmission time, so increasing the SPI clock does not solve the problem. The connected device is an SPI TFT display, so I have to send a large number of SPI words of 2 bytes each, where CS must toggle after each word (required by th…

Yes, this is another rookie question: if I only modify the dts file of the kernel or a certain part of the driver code, I run ./compile.sh, need to wait a long time for the compilation process of uboot and various libraries. How can I only compile the kernel part? I see there is a compile option: KERNEL_ONLY, is this possible? How do I need to update the kenel part after compiling?

I would like to build a hard realtime Linux kernel for Orange Pi SoC. Using Xenomai technologies (Installing Xenomai 3.x , Xenomai Documentation). This would be a great extension of the SoC application area. I did this for the x86 architecture. And I've already assembled the core using your Arabian technology. But building the realtime Xenomai kernel requires pre-patching from a third-party project Adeos (Adaptive Domain Environment for Operating Systems). Patch files for different architectures can be found here: Index of /downloads/ipipe/v4.x Is it possible to build a realtime kernel using Arabian? P.S. I apologize for my poor …

Hi, I'am Patrick from France, it is my first post on the forum. I am porting the Zortrax m200 plus 3D printer to Armbian and my last important step would be to have the LCD screen working. I cross compiled my module but I have this message when installing it: # insmod panel-himax-hx8394.ko [ 1760.189919] BPF: [120533] Invalid name_offset:2238391 [ 1760.195183] failed to validate module [panel_himax_hx8394] BTF: -22 insmod: ERROR: could not insert module panel-himax-hx8394.ko: Invalid parameters Then I added the module source code to the sources, but calling ./compile.sh seems to update the repo and revert my changes such as I do not see my m…

I've build an dev image for my OrangePi 2 (kernel 4.10) to try mainline kernel and got into troubles with onboard wifi. It works fine in legacy with 8189es module, but there is no 8189es module in mainline image. So I tried 8189fs but it's not working. After doing some search I've managed to build 8189es module myself using https://github.com/jwrdegoede/rtl8189ES_linux.gitrepository. My objective is to boot Armbian on my NanoPi Neo2 from a network server. I've got Armbian running on the NanoPi Neo2 and u-boot recognizes the ethernet interface. Also, I have a DHCP server and TFTP server running. If I press space during start-up, I get in the U-boot environment. When I give the dhcp command in the U-boot environment, the NanoPi Neo2 get's an IP address and loads /boot/boot.scr from the network. So, the pre-requisites seem to work fine. But then.... I just can't figure out how to start Armbian (preferrably in read only mode) from the network. Maybe someone can tell me what needs to be done. I've got the following qu…

I don't see a clean way to do this with the builder unless I build the kernel first, search the kernel sources and then determine the kernel that way.

Hi Guys, I have recently been contracted to a new project where I have moved out of my comfort zone (embedded 8-bit/32-bit uC) and have started my work on a H3 based device (currently NanoPi Neo) with Armbian. Over the course of my work I have managed to get up to speed with the basics; configuration, scripting, hardware and interfaces and device trees to a point where I can now work on the device as a proof of concept. The work that has been contributed so-far to the armbian project is impressive as is the active and knowledgeable forum - to which I hope I can contribute. One element which I cannot find an easy solution to is one of remo…

I'm building an Ubuntu image and after it compiles the ARM objects it tries to download files from ports.ubuntu.com. For a reason I'm still trying to figure out, it's trying to get files from 127.0.0.1 (which is weird) but that's fixable. What I'd like to do is resume a build that had failed without recompiling all the ARM objects again. I'm using compile.sh. Thanks! Kriston

So, I am working on a Clearfog Pro here, having compiled a 4.14.17 kernel and built a Debian Buster image on the m2 ssd via debootstrap. The board boots, and all the network ports behave as expected, but for the SFP cage. After spending some time digging through menuconfig, and not finding the appropriate option, I hunted a little, and found that sfp.c, sfp-bus.c, and phylink.c are all in the kernel code, but no manner of configuration can access them. I have dug up a couple of patchsets which seem necessary, but the dts patches (2nd link, january 2nd-7th, 2017 patches, near the bottom of the page) at least seem not to be merged into the mainline tree. I have not exam…

I want to have a "dual boot" system with Openelec for video and Armbian for the rest :-) The boot files are named different except 'boot.scr'. So the idea is to rename it, so the right one is used and then do a reboot. Not the PC dual boot with a menu, but good enough for me :-D So I copied the files from the /boot folder to an existing FAT partition and copied the rest to a newly created ext4 partition (mmcblk0p3). I modified 'boot.scr' to this: gpio set PL10 gpio set PG11 setenv machid 1029 setenv bootm_boot_mode nonsec if fatload mmc 0 0x00000000 /boot/.verbose then setenv verbosity 7 else setenv verbosity 1 fi setenv bootargs "console=tty1 r…

I decided to start my Armbian contribution with something simple as a first step where I will learn how to update the documentation. So far I've cloned and built the docs successfully. But after I built them, I noticed that the new docs I built do not match the documentation on the website (docs.armbian.com). Which files are considered to be correct / what's next (fix the ones in git or the ones on the site?). Thanks!

You have a build framework that works pretty good, is it out of the question to have an extremely simple configuration framework? Maybe framework is more advanced than needed, probably just a script? It it doesn’t need to be part of the normal build process but could just simply inject a configuration profile into a completed rootfs, image or actual sd card Just the basics: Single network manager profile hostname default user and pass serial console config log2ram status remote login status (ssh, xrdp) I don’t mind writing a simple v0.1 to get started

Hi there, let's assume I have two custom extra packages which have a dependency in extras-buildpkgs. 10-package1.conf 20-package2.conf 20-package2 has a package_builddeps to 10-package1. It is marked in the .conf file as in package2/debian/control@Build-Depends. Package 10-package1 is build properly and stored under output/deps/extra/jammy_utils. While building package 20-package2 it does install resolve 10-package1 before and in the logs I see the `Bad package name` (general.sh:1290) message. Also the adjustment of package20's rules to use apt-get during build prep does not find the package. Is there anything I h…

Hi folks, I've done a Armbian build for my OrangePi-Plus2e this morning, and discovered that U-Boot "fdtfile" is now set to sun8i-h3-orangepi-plus2e.dtb instead of sun8i-h3-orangepi-pc.dtb as previously. Unfortunately, the sun8i-h3-orangepi-plus2e.dtb doesn't exist, I had to copy the sun8i-h3-orangepi-pc.dtb under the sun8i-h3-orangepi-plus2e.dtb name to make it boot. Where in the build process we manage to set "fdtfile" during u-boot build ? Is that done using mix of manipulations of configs found in config/boards/orangepiplus2e.conf (Zador recently changed it) Also, on separate issue, I've discovered that /usr/lib/linux-u-boot-dev-orangepiplus2e_5.20_armhf…

I have an orange pi lite and I'm building my (dev 4.10) image using the Armbian tools. So far I figured out how to enable the DT overlays located in /boot/dtb/overlays by editing the armbianEnv.txt file and adding overlays=sun8i-h3-uart1 sun8i-h3-uart2 sun8i-h3-uart3 sun8i-h3-i2c0 sun8i-h3-spi0-spidev This now enables the various uart, i2c and spi ports I wish to use and that works. I'm trying to now set up a ADS7846 Touch controller using DTB I have copied the file from https://raw.githubusercontent.com/raspberrypi/linux/rpi-4.4.y/arch/arm/boot/dts/overlays/ads7846-overlay.dts and run dtc -I dts -O dtb ads7846-overlay.dts -o /boot/dtb/overlays/ads7846-ove…

Hello, for quite some time I have noticed that it seems impossible to build just the kernel, an image is built every time. I am using the following command: ./compile.sh BOARD=odroidxu4 BRANCH=current RELEASE=bullseye BUILD_MINIMAL=yes BUILD_DESKTOP=no BUILD_ONLY="kernel" KERNEL_CONFIGURE=no USE_CCACHE=no KEEP_KERNEL_CONFIG=no DEB_COMPRESS=xz Additionally, output/debs seems not to be cleaned, despite documentation indicating this should happen with default CLEAN_LEVEL. Am I doing something wrong? Or does documentation need updating? Thanks!

Ever since I read through THIS POST a while back, I started digging through the cpufrequtils init script, and was a more or less disappointed with what I found. It's largely a product of the CPUs that were available around that time (eg - Pentium 3). Namely that all cores in the system are the same, and there's should be only one master policy that controls everything. Of course ARM big.LITTLE totally breaks these assumptions, and leaves the script with no viable way to specify different schedulers or frequency ranges for each CPU cluster. It still runs, but not really correctly. For example, you can't set the RK3399 little cores above 1.4 GHz, but that's basi…

Hi guys, I'm running out of ideas... Following situation, I use since years Armbian Bullseye on the HC2 with a 3,5" HDD, with OMV and Syncthing. Now I replaced the HDD with a SDD, copied and work without issues with the old HC2 board. I have as well a HC1 board here, so ideal solution is, change SD and SSD to the HC1 and my expectation is, should work. For sure the MAC would change, but seems the network connection isn't working at all. At least my expectation is, there should be a new address received via DHCP (setting is DHCP). Did I miss some important Armbian specific settings? Maybe there is something set in first run? Both board run seamless with a new f…
