Hi all, First let me thank you for your work. Armbian is fantastic. Thank you. I’m surprised that nobody has asked this question or at least I’m unable to find it on the forum / in docs. My understanding is: 1. Debian x86 Linux kernel is same on all devices since regardless if it is laptop or server, it has BIOS or UEFI that will ”tell” the kernel what hardware, what buses, what addresses, etc. it has… 2. ARM boards don’t have BIOS and therefore Linux Kernel is different for every board. I checked that on my Orange Pi Zero by default the /etc/apt/source.list and /etc/apt/source.list.d/ are default Debian repos and one…

  5. In one post here I saw a "please buy hardware we recommend" quote, and I appreciate that, but I wasn't able to find a recommended boards list - is there even one? Or should I just use the standard/platinum support filtering on the main page? Anyway, I could also use some help / recommendation for a general purpose SBC as I ... didn't by one for years. I'm looking for a more recent SBC to run a small, low power server (think pihole, homeassistant, zigbee, etc). I don't have specific requirements, but I'd like the board to have some kind of "long term support" and I'd also like to choose something that the armbian team would recommend, maybe from a manufacturer …

Hi everybody! I'm new on Linux and I have a problem. I burned the Armbian OS on an SD card for a OrangePi PC and I created an User name [dp] and a Password. When I login, instead to see the Desktop image, Armbian seems to wait for a command or something. The OS displays the following text: dp@orangepipc: ~$_ What should I type now to see the Desktop? Anyone want to help me?

  8. Dear all, As said elsewhere, I'm interested in distributed scientific computing, namely BOINC, and more specifically the Einstein@Home project: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/ https://einsteinathome.org/fr/home ARM platforms seem to be a good choice for that purpose IMHO. Even though they lack the raw power of x86_64, at least they don't use a lot of energy and don't need active cooling most of the time (I can't stand the noise of a fan ). At the moment I'm running BOINC on two ARM nodes: a Raspberry PI 3 (Raspbian) and a NanoPi M1 (Armbian). Both are quite dated now and don't allow me to contribute much to this project. …

I just pay attention. XFCE4 and third software eg chromium in debian 9 has more errors than in ubuntu 18.04. These are errors unrelated to the armbian. Quite simply, the debian developers probably do not test their packages as accurately as ubuntu. These are the dissapearing clocks XFCE panel, the lack of the chromium minimization button, the synaptic correction not working in the search option, and so on. They do not matter to you, but they are important when used by ordinary users in production. I see that you have a lot of images doing Debian 9. If you can already consider doing images ubuntu 18.04. Ubuntu is also faster than debian 9, really feel the difference.

I already know what I get from the security team if I ask to deploy Armbian that is build by a relatively small number or volunteers. As a test I updated on a secondary Pihole-Server (buster on NanoPi K1 Plus) the kernel to 5.11.1-dev and at startup Pihole did seem to make some trouble The server isnt getting to the login prompt and on the serial console the last info is "Starting kernel..." I updated some of my SMB-Servers with kernel 5.11.1-deb without problems. Will later try a new resinstall with buster and 5.11.1 and see if Pihole will run on a complete new installation.

  14. I can clearly see the point for the maintainers, but there is an issue with the old boards. For example, I have a cubietruck which I would definitely like it to keep being supported, and I could probably help to maintain it within Armbian. Though I do have only one board which works 24/7. To my understanding, I can not be a maintainer, as I can't test new releases on a productive board. So If no one has two pieces, then the board can not be supported. In this case, I expect that current owners have to freeze kernel updates and keep the board for some more months - years, or try to test and use plain Debian or other distros. Is there any other alternative?

I solved my problem with writing down a driver capturing edge triggered inputs. So, with some readers (200uS pulses, 1.5ms between pulses) i can get all data, but with other readers (e.g. 100uS pulse, 500uS between pulses) I miss some interrupts (e.g. I have a wiegand42 reader and sometimes I get 41 interrupts, sometimes I get 39 or 36). I read that kernel fires new interrupt only when the previous interrupt function has returned, so I tested it with just addi…

It doesn’t seem any developers are there, but since the number of participants has already in double digits, it is fair to say that it is at least an unofficial Armbian user channel. In case you are an IRC person, you are hereby kindly invited to join our idle chatter at: irc://freenode.net/#armbian NB: The forums are still the official communication channel and I made sure to include that in the channel’s topic.

The drivers are avialable, there is probably good support for getting it off the line, and I would be willing to try to get someone a dev board to work with: http://www.nvidia.com/object/jetson-tx1-module.html Publicity Support: Publicity for armbian means awareness and donations. Hello, is there something like a VirtualBox that can emulate a BP(M1) hardware, that can run Armbian inside? I'm looking for a way to set up a new Armbian system for a BPM1, without having to shut down the running one longer than absolutely necessary. I have done this before with Linux servers: I installed and configured a hole server inside a VirtualBox alongside my normal computer work, then I copied the image to the real disk and swapped the disks, with a downtime of only about 5 minutes. So I was wondering if this was possible with the BananaPi as well.

  55. Hi there, I am about to use an OrangePi Zero to handle the temperature and display some information on a custom contraption related to network. The problem I have is that this contraption will be powered on and powered off at will, without notice. So... I guess that after some time, the Zero running Armbian won't be that happy about being shut off brutally. I have seen some setups with supercapacitors for Raspberry Pis, but has anyone in here tried something similar with the OrangePi Zero? Or anything else that would delay the power loss, so that the board can shutdown properly? I made searches about supercapacitors with Armbian, but only found some…

One would normally use the IDE to do so but I can't get the GUI to work in WSL2 (theoretically WSL2 on Windows 11 supports graphical apps). Is it possible to configure the license from the command line? A long shot: has a…

That said, it raises a few questions. 1) My NanoPC-T4 will not boot without the Armbian patches. The vanilla u-boot does not work out of the box. The reason was that we often ended up in situations where we prepared a headless system with our full stack (see https://nymea.io) and handed it over to someone else to just it in their WLAN. The target group are end users which are not able to use a console. In an attempt to return something to the community we've created a standalone tool for this to share it with others, BerryLan. Also, Gigabit Ethernet is a must. For all the SBC's which are listed as Supported, to what degree can I trust that I won't get kernel freezes, or filesystem errors, when disk I/O gets thick and furious? I completely understand if the disk I/O slows down to a crawl, as the load average gets high, but I'm wanting to feel assured that a board marked as Supported won't "flake out" on me, potentially destroying all my files, should I decide to use it for a simple NAS.
