When launching ddd in Armbian 4.5.1, the prompt isn't set properly and the terminal operation inside ddd isn't right. Launching gdb by itself works OK. When I try to load my executable for debugging, I get You can't do that when your target is `None' When I exit ddd, it complains that gdb is still busy. Anyone else seeing this? Why would ddd running natively under Armbian need to know its target when it doesn't need that anywhere else where its used natively? Chris

Hi, I have currently a Raspberry Pi 3B+ running as WiFi access point, hooked up to the router via Ethernet. This allows me to play around and redirect traffic via TOR or whatever I can think of on the Pi. It works quite well, but I actually think the PI is possibly a bit overpowered and too expensive. Can anyone suggest an SBC that can handle the task equally well (stable + good WiFi performance for a handful of clients with connection to 50MBit/s uplink) but is less expensive? I already had a look at the Orange Pi Zero Plus 2, which seems suitable in terms of specs. Thanks, 1llusion

I'm experience a really weird problem on a very experimental setup: the system is an Armbian build for an unsupported board (Rockchip RK322x) and Ubuntu Focal 20.04 with mainline kernel 5.6.4. The system has issues to boot when enters into systemd: it is slow but all of sudden it goes farther. Many different systemd services are complaining, expecially the journal and the chrony NTP client. Finally I found that the root of the problems is the system time which is abruptly moving back and forth even by months. Subsequent calls to date may report 20 June, then 4 March, then 18 August and so on... The kernel log is fine and, most of all, the very…

If you have time and a spare Allwinner H3-CPU system (like the Orange Pi One or PC (not PC2 because of H3 CPU) you could try the BASIC Engine NG for H3-PiComputers/Boards. The - bare metall - BASIC seems to have very powerful commands - see the Online-Manual A forum in BETA state is at this URL I downloaded and booted the SDCard-Image from the 14.10.2021 (compressed size 5.4MB) from this directory Image was written with Balena Etcher to the SDCard Have fun and write new BASIC-programms!

The Z80-MBC2 is a 4-chip Z80-computer which can run CP/M and has a 5V TTL-serial-port. The Z80-MBC2 is powered and accessable via a USB-TTL-serial-adapter (configured to 5V - not 3.3V) type CP2102 seen as /dev/ttyUSB0 The easy way would be to connect the USB-adapter to a Pi-style computer wth armbian, login via SSH and start minicom for the port. But that way doenst look as good - to me - as the following way First we need to install ser2net and telnet (telnet doesnt seem to be installed as standard) in armbian via apt install ser2net telnet Then we have to edit /etc/ser2net.conf (delete all lines after the comments and in…

This seems to be a interesting project for some of the SBCs which are supported ba armbian. Maybe its - in some parts - also a "inspiration" for armbian? Shedbuilt A rickety GNU/Linux Distribution for ARM Devices Long-story short You can build an entire operating system capable of communicating over the Internet, playing games, and robots, from scratch on a computer that costs less than a well-optioned burrito. Here's an admittedly over-the-top and entertainment-focused video that demonstrates what Shedbuilt is caple of on sub-$10 devices, using only open-source software: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fS9DArYH6WI …

Hello all, I'm relying quite heavily on RSS for my news feed. However I can only see two feeds on the armbian forum: New threads and posts. As you can imagine, I get quite a lot of pings for the post feed, and I'm not able to follow previous threads from the New threads feed. Is there more feeds or is it possible to add a feed per thread to the forum?

Hi all, I'm running DietPi on an Orange Pi Zero 3 (H618, sunxi64), which repackages the Armbian current-sunxi64 kernel. I use a USB DVB-T2 dongle (HanfTek Astrometa RTL2832P, VID/PID 15f4:0131) with tvheadend for over-the-air TV. After a routine update the dongle stopped working entirely, and I tracked the root cause down to missing kernel modules. ## Problem Starting from kernel 6.18.x (package linux-image-current-sunxi64 version 26.05.0-trunk-dietpi1 and all subsequent builds through dietpi5), the following modules are absent from the kernel package: - dvb_usb_v2 - dvb-usb-rtl28xxu - dvb_core …

Hi everyone! I was asked by tkaiser to share something about my PHP control of GPIO pins. I can tell you that I will be happy to do so. Mostly because I'm really extremly good in one thing and that is forgetting how i did something. Now let's cut bulls**t down and start with small introduction of what I'm up to. I'll decsribe what I'm doing and what is working for me so it should all click together as project documentation and tutorial. Also all I'm going to describe is being done on Cubieboard2 (A20) but i guess that it can work almost on any ARM SBC running Debian or Ubuntu. Introduction / Motivation Basically, I'm really interested in connecting low-level …

Hi, Is there any plan fro Armbian to support Rockchip processors like RK3288 or RK3399? Any guide on how to port Armbian on them? These processors have official support on GPU (both openCL and openGL ES), HW video codec (like H264 encoding and decoding with gstream), and also open-sourced Kernel 4.4.x. And most important thing is they are willing to support opensource community and fix their bugs continuously. I've got a RK3288 proto board which was able to run Linux 4.4 + Debian with HW accelerated desktop and video playing, and it worked perfect. The only thing that troubled me is the Debian system that maintained by Rockchip is suck.…

(I am running Ubuntu Core QT-Embedded on a nanoPi Neo using this network adapter)The first time I used the network adapter it worked perfectly. I saw the adapter when I typed ifconfig -a and it connected to my network when I typed the following commands: ifdown wlan0 ifup wlan0Then I unplugged the power supply and plugged it back in and now it doesn't work or show up on ifconfig -a. I tested it out on my Windows machine and the adapter works fine, and when I type lsusb I can see a network adapter so I'm very confused. How can I resolve this issue?

As a test I updated on a secondary Pihole-Server (buster on NanoPi K1 Plus) the kernel to 5.11.1-dev and at startup Pihole did seem to make some trouble The server isnt getting to the login prompt and on the serial console the last info is "Starting kernel..." I updated some of my SMB-Servers with kernel 5.11.1-deb without problems. Will later try a new resinstall with buster and 5.11.1 and see if Pihole will run on a complete new installation.

Hi, I'm part of a nonprofit working on improving access to digital education in the developing world. I'm looking for a fairly cheap SBC (<$20) that has a HDMI port so that it can be connected to a TV monitor (including old TVs like CRTs). The microSD card will be preloaded with static webpages from educational websites so that students can surf these websites at home. It should also have bluetooth or a USB port so it can be connected to a keyboard ($10) or mouse ($1). I don't strictly need wifi (the microSD cards can be updated on a different device), but it would be a plus. Another nice-to-have would be compatibility with Android apps, since…

Hi, I just got 2 of these. Everything is fine but you need to order power adapter 12V 2A with 3.5mm x 1.35mm connector. Unfortunately due to earlier version of BIOS compare to same looking GeoBook 1E but with dualcore Celeron N4020 it cannot boot from microSD card. Speakers are rubbish but it could be good for some low powered machine projects. And one advice. Do not change "Quick boot" option in BIOS setting or it will not boot and you will need to unplug battery to reset BIOS. It work with both Windows 11 or Linux with no extra drivers mods needed. 5Ghz wifi and bluetooth also included. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/166222480445

good day dear friends, well sure i know this is theoretically a bit difficult, but I dare to ask: what are the possible ways to connect an internal 3.5'' SATA HDD to the board (let's say i want to use a 1TB)? Let's ignore the need for additional power. i want to add a good power supply unit: So that i have enough power. What about the ways and options to connect a HDD. What is aimed: I want to make a box like a Network Attached Storage - a NAS - that contains the board and the HDD internally, so the trivial "plug to USB connector" is excluded. How can I do this? first approach: Well - i guess that the only way is to use a sata…

Tested with a few drives, and different operating systems. Also a couple power supplies. The harddrive runs extra hot 107F on the outside for the last one I measured myself. It dies during heavy loads. a simple fsck will kill it. But put it in my main computer and I can write /dev/zero to it all day long. My first thought is that I had a power issue with some power supplies lying about their actual amperage. So I found "FSP Net 36 Universal Netbook Power Adapter 12V 36W for ASUS Eee PC" in the discount bin and modified it to work in a 12v adapter. Still the crashing persists. However if I don't use the 3.5 addon package and I use a 2TB samsung laptop drive, no …

I just released a new C library for communicating with those inexpensive 4-digit 7-segment LED displays: https://github.com/bitbank2/tm1637 They can run on 3.3V or 5V and draw between 1 and 15mA depending on the brightness setting. I purchased mine from an AliExpress vendor for 68 cents each with free shipping. They use a custom 2-wire communications protocol and must be "bit-banged" from 2 GPIO pins. In my demo, I assign pins 38 and 40 on my Orange Pi Lite.

A case for "Sticky" Subjects I see a need for "Sticky" Subjects, or a board category for some appropriate discussions: WishBoard support: Let user's provide both a wish list of boards they would like to support, and what they might be willing to do get support for a board. Hello! I've just recently gotten a few (okay, several. I might have a problem here.) small single-board computers and I'm thoroughly in love with them. I also purchased a few small LCDs so I could make small independent thing that wouldn't require a huge display - perhaps even portable ones. While I do enjoy using the terminal for practically anything (give me lynx, rtv, byobu and the likes and I'm happy), there are certain advantages in a graphical user interface. But let's face it, the default UIs with modern window managers are... not exactly designed for small, low-res screens. With a 800x480 screen it's plausible to use just a normal WM and be rather fine…

I have a running obsession with sensors/motors/SBCs and have been creating a collection of C libraries as I learn/conquer each new device. I recently added a few that might interest some of the forum residents here. They include a C library to talk to the RPI Sense Hat, ST Micro VL53L0X time of flight distance sensor, and CCS811 air quality sensor. You can find them all here: https://github.com/bitbank2 If anyone has a sensor/add-on that they would like to program in C from their Orange Pi and there isn't any code available, let me know and maybe I can add it to my collection.

Hi there! I built a new system that automates the control of GPIO pins and makes it easy to switch them. It is fully realtime and based on NodeJS & Socket.io. I hope you like it. Originally supported board types are OrangePi, NanoPi & RockPiS. The Raspberry Pi support is recently published, there may be some bugs. Here is a link to the GitHub repository: https://github.com/ArdaSeremet/SBC-RealTimeIO . Please feel free to tell me about any further improvements. For now, I am working on PWM output support! Take care, be well!

Hello, I'm using Armbian (kernel version 5.0.21-sunxi) on an Olimex a13 SOM. I'm trying to implement wiegand interface on GPIO pins, that means that I have to fire interrupts on 50uS pulses. I solved my problem with writing down a driver capturing edge triggered inputs. So, with some readers (200uS pulses, 1.5ms between pulses) i can get all data, but with other readers (e.g. 100uS pulse, 500uS between pulses) I miss some interrupts (e.g. I have a wiegand42 reader and sometimes I get 41 interrupts, sometimes I get 39 or 36). I read that kernel fires new interrupt only when the previous interrupt function has returned, so I tested it with just addi…

Hi We've made a patch for the current a64 megous 5.10 kernel which enables writing to the 2K SID/Efuse security area of the A64/R18 processor. Our initial investigations have found that the A64 doesn't seem to match the tables found in the SID Register Guide, however we've proceeded to perform various write tests and are presenting our results here for anyone that may found it useful in further development. There shouldn't be any issues using the same patch in the 5.14 kernel, as the driver code is still the same. The patch won't be pushed upstream, and is for dev purposes only, as the original intend of the driver is to be read-only. (This is EFUSE area …

I can clearly see the point for the maintainers, but there is an issue with the old boards. For example, I have a cubietruck which I would definitely like it to keep being supported, and I could probably help to maintain it within Armbian. Though I do have only one board which works 24/7. To my understanding, I can not be a maintainer, as I can't test new releases on a productive board. So If no one has two pieces, then the board can not be supported. In this case, I expect that current owners have to freeze kernel updates and keep the board for some more months - years, or try to test and use plain Debian or other distros. Is there any other alternative?

Hello all, I've been recently burned by a failing SD card (armbianmonitor -v possibly saved me a much worse fate!) and I'm now trying to proactively avoid a similar situation. Nothing like a good weekend challenge to occupy my inner nerd. I love this web interface NODE JS along with this relay plate RELAY PLATE and have it working with Raspberry PI3, but now I want to take advantage of the additional ram I have with Rock64. The process did not go without a hitch. I list the latest version of NPM in my machine and the web interface is working. I don't think the relays are getting triggered even though I painstakingly crossed the power pinouts and the gpio pinouts. Not sure if this can be adapted or if it has been done before. I am good at following those that know more than me, but do not consider myself knowledgeable enough to blaze new trails.…

I am in the middle of porting a proof of concept app from Raspberry Pi/Raspbian to its (hopefully) permanent home on Orange Pi PC/Armbian, and I am really loving the new environment. Now I need to get my non-standard HDMI display working. It's a 800x800 circular display from China that works fine on my Raspberry Pi once I figured out what the HDMI timings were (they weren't even on the data sheet!). As I learned when configuring the RPi the display does not report its resolution correctly, so it won't work out of the box, but in Raspbian you have the option to force the system to use your custom configuration defined in the config.txt file. I have …

Hello All, I am working on a freelance testing project and I want to know which model is better for testing in the process and concept point of view between agile and waterfall. Hi there, I bought a few months ago a H616 based TV Box, and made the same kind of mistakes this week. I bought an OrangePi Zero2, also sporting a H616. I bought the TVBox because at that time: "wow, an undocumented AllWinnner SoC!", how stupid is that? I bought the Zero2 because CNX software gave a few hints about the SoC features, like the fact the G31 GPU is a Bitfrost GPU, meaning it supports Vulkan, and down the line, it could potentially be supported by Panfrost open-source graphics driver. I'm still dreaming of an Armbian based video encoding SBC, and this SoC (like so many others on the paper) looks promising: Video D…

Hi there, I'm currently struggling to get the Cedrus VPU up and running.
