I needed a small zero cross detector to switch SSR's efficiently and properly in my DIY reflow oven so I designed these in KiCad, and built them. They are optically isolated (5000V Isolation) and Low power (less than 120mW) so are safe to hook up to any board supported by Armbian (or any other SBC) (provided you safely wired them to the mains) and produce a nice open drain low going pulse for 1ms (50Hz AC) centred dead around zero cross. (about 0.83ms for 60Hz AC). On the digital side they will interface to any logic level between 1.8V and 5V. The thing is I only need 2, and I have spares because I had to get 10 PCB's minimum. I have decided to build them…

I seem to be running around in circles trying to make a decision about a new SBC to add to the herd. The job is currently being done by an OrangePi PC (H3, 1Gb), and is mostly about generating static web sites, which means rendering static HTML/json/js files and uploading them via SCP to a cheap shared hosting provider (the orange pi does not do the actual hosting). This means daily downloading of data from the web (a few hundred MB) and crunching this data to use it for the site. Currently it downloads my country's official covid cases data and generates per-city-daily-cases-per-capita with rolling averages in HTML graphs, this allows easier compa…

<prompt> "Talk to me about it." <claude> Good question, because the honest answer has layers, and most of the "8K" in the ads lives in only one of them. What's real: the decoder. The RK3588's video engine (RKVDEC2) really does decode 8K: HEVC and VP9 at 8K@60, H.264 and AV1 at 8K@30, in silicon. That's not marketing. It's the same block Deep Ink talks to for our 4K HDR work, and 8K is just more macroblocks through the same pipe. So "8K video decoding" is a true statement about the chip. Where it thins out: the display. The VOP2 display controller's big port (VP0) tops out at 8K@30 or 4K@120, and here's the nugget: those are the same number. …

Wanted to automate payroll. Needed to be as simple/easy on the eyes as possible for your run of the mill user. General functionality is that it makes digital timecards for every employee action/swipe of an RFID tag. Every swipe also punches a Google Sheet based on company department, by utilizing regex to find column associated with employee name, then the row based on today's date. It then punches current military time to corresponding clock in/out offset. The timecard math is all done using the Google spreadsheet functions to discern overtime, total hours, etc... More will be included later to automate even the spreadsheet template even though copy/pasting once every…

On January 31st I decided to order two EspressoBIN boards with 2GB RAM each. What made me take the final decision was that the pfSense developers got pfSense running on the board (it's still in alpha, but it very much adds value to the board). In addition, Armbian's compatibility page (see the download page) lists two devices that I'm interested in: The USB3-to-Gbit Ethernet adapter. The Mini-PCIe-to-4-SATA-ports card. Note: This card will not be able to reach the full 6Gbit for SATA, but around 5Gbit, which is still quite good. And last but not least; Armbian of course needs some testers on this platform. Here are the t…

Hi, I've been using a lot redsocks with iptables to be able to stream to YouTube since last June on an X86 Ubuntu machine. I have a set of iptables rules that work for me on this machine. I imported them on my OrangePi One running Armbian Linux orangepione 5.4.2-sunxi #19.11.4.352 SMP Wed Dec 18 00:58:18 CET 2019 armv7l GNU/Linux. Unfortunately, it did not work, maybe because of the news nftables. So I chose to use the legacy iptables Spoiler update-alternatives --set iptables /usr/sbin/iptables-legacy update-alternatives --set ip6tables /usr/sbin/ip6tables-legacy update-alternatives --set arptables /usr/sbin/arptables-legacy update-…

Dear All, I just want to make a Tutorial on my successful attempt in Installing Box86 on Arm64 and Install Wine X86 apps. In this example it is Sketchup 7.1 and Sketchup 8 But before starting I want to thanks to PtitSeb for his hard work to bring this dream into reality (running x86 apps on arm64 box). My system is X96 Max+ S905x3. I used @balbes150 older image to boot to Armbian, many thanks for him. So In general every box running Armbian 64bit should work. This tutorial will use debootstrap Debian Buster Armhf as base for chroot. The keyword is "Arm64" support "Armhf", therefore you do not need to use Qemu or Binfmt_misc as it is very slow. Here's my repo…

I'm augmenting my iBook G3 with my pcDuino3 Nano to act as a wireless gateway and host for a development toolchain. It's working fine so far and once I'm done it will be completely powered by the FireWire port The only downsides are that it is a bit big and at idle it's taking ~250mA which I'm going to have to play with at some point and see if I can get it down any more.

I have an Orange Pi PC2 and burned a SD Card with Armbian for it. The device boots to a Login window wit a single input field. Background: I'm using Orange Pi Zero for data I/O. I'm using https://github.com/zhaolei/WiringOP to manage the GPIO stuff. So I've been writing programs in C/C++ using the simple nano editor via SSH to my Orange Pi Zero. I start by doing all code edit within Atom.io on my laptop/desktop computer. (I ALWAYS want a record of what I'm changing... ) I keep track of code changes via Git and the Atom content on my laptop/desktop. When it comes time to push code to the Orange Pi, I SSH login to the orange pi: Delete my old workingCode.c file (erasing big blocks of code within Nano is a pain in the neck) Create the file again via Nano. Copy paste the new c…

This should be a thread where we every one is invited to improve the 'Support over Forum' situation (there was some discussion about it in the nightly & tkaisers support propsal thread). Threads like this one showed clearly that a lot of good supporters and problem solvers gets more and more frustrated about the situation. Being new as moderator on this board, I have some questions: What do you (as a good problem solver) expect should a moderator do, to avoid situations like this? Should moderators keep the development threads as clean as possible as long as images for those boards are in experimental stage? (throw out every: i'm also interessted in gettin…

One month ago I got on my OPi Zero Plus2 H5 only up to 816Mhz with armbian. In the past I got on this device up to 1.1GHz (1080000 cpufreq) with older armbian builds. @5kft Told me thats because frequencys greater than 816Mhz require 1.2v and the OPi Zero Plus2 H5 isnt/couldnt switch(ing) and would only run at 1.1v. So it seems the cpu-table is now more conservative than before. Yesterday I did see the same behaviour and my "older" non-LTS NanoPi Neo2 (H5 also). Because in September I edited the cpu-table less conservative for the OPi Zero Plus2 H5 I did test this also on the non-LTS NanoPi Neo2 and it worked like on the OPi Zero…

I'm running Armbian on my ARM-based single-board computer, and I would like to create a bootable live image from my current installation. This way, I can use the image to boot other devices with the same configuration, software, and customizations that I've set up on my current system. I've looked through the Armbian documentation, but I couldn't find a straightforward guide on how to accomplish this task. Can someone please provide step-by-step instructions on how to create a bootable live image from my current Armbian installation? Ideally, I'd like to be able to create an image file (e.g., .img or .iso) that I can write to a USB drive or an SD card, making it…

Just received my H616 OpiZero2... Since there is no Armiban -- I tried "Xunglong" version of Ubuntu Focal. Motd from Armbian armbian-config magically transferred into orangepi-config. Same to armbianmonitor, which is now .. guess - orangepimonitor. Also armbianEnv.txt now orangepiEnv.txt in /boot. Looks like "good global search and replace job" was done. I'm not a lawyer, neither too much aware of opensource licenses... But I guess there SHOULD be a reference to original Armbian sources ? May be Armbian "stakeholders" are aware of this, may be not. Just for your information.

Hi there, let's say I'd like to mimic this device because I'm filming events with several cameras and audio recorders, and that it's really time consuming to synchronize everything before the real editing. So... I was thinking of starting with a GPS module on top of an Orange Pi Zero to get the initial UTC time fix, adding also a temperature compensated crystal to keep it running if we lose the GPS signal (which will happen for sure, as most of my recordings are inside buildings). The goal there is to generate an audio signal thanks to libltc and to add that to the original audio/video in real time. How would you get the GPS+Crystal to set the time for …

I have an OrangePi Prime with 2 GB RAM. I'm running a server-like node.js app that does constant writes to .json files and text log files. Let's call it "database storage". The app is not otherwise RAM intensive, can run fine on 512 MB boards. I'm thinking of putting all my RAM to use and move the database storage to a RAM disk made with Zram. Do you see any potential problems and interference with the way Zram is configured for this board?

Hi, I have a OpenVPN server running on the broadband router installed at my parents house. My router at home connects to this and I mirror my complete NAS over this connection. My brother also has a laptop on which he uses VPN occasionally to copy important stuff there. Since the router has only a small dual core MIPS CPU, VPN speeds are limited to about 18Mbit/s. The connection at my parents home is 100/50Mbit/s and mine at home 250/80Mbit/s, so it could work faster. Also, the VPN takes up all the CPU so for example DNS resolution is slow if the VPN is saturated. For this reason, I'd like to buy a inexpensive small device tha…

(Note: this is a cross-post from here). Please, everyone, save up your Grievances for the next 2-3 days, then Air them! It would be sort of like when Lunduke does his “Linux Sucks” speeches, but we all get to have our say. For example, are there particular ARM board vendors that have made your life particularly difficult? You can have long-winded rants, ideally caffeine fueled, but please, edit them into a coherent essay-like format, before posting. Diagrams, meme-pictur…

But now i want to put on Raspi things that are parts of a IoT-Server. Therefore i am planning a headstart into docker! Then from the image, containers are created to run the application. Well - running Docker on the Banana Pi seems to be very he…

about COCKPIT in opposite to eg. Webmin does Cockpit edit just like you would in the configuration files. So it doesn't matter if you do any changes via SSH or via Cockpit. It is pretty neat to view your devices, see whether they run smooth or if one is going mad If you grab it from their website you get the latest and greatest (updates pushed weekly) but the easy way is: apt update && apt-get install cockpit (available since Ubuntu 16.04, needs systemd). I got Version 151. On the tinker board mainline the download was only about 1750Kb, the server side is written in C and in your browser it runs with Javascript and such. Just lik…

What do you think about SBCs as the preferred platform to handle encrypted/sensitive/classified data? The threat model would be for frequent travelers, against things like evil maid attacks on laptops left in a hotel room or while the laptop is separated from you during travel. The sensitive data would be kept on an encrypted portable hard drive. It would be decrypted and mounted by the SBC, which only allows login via SSH from your laptop's public key. SBCs have a number of benefits over desktops and laptops, namely: Its hardware is plainly inspectable and difficult to tamper with. Unlike desktops or laptops which are vulnerable to evil ma…

As some might imagine, you can buy a bunch of different ribbon cables on Aliexpress. Different pitches, pins, etc... Yes - I'm here flailing about for clues (like person who can't swim in deep end of pool :-) ). I know, this is more of an Orange Pi/ I2C_sunxi thing, but OPI and Armbian go together, so... I have an oscilloscope that shows I2C-0 putting out clock bits with my LDC1314's '2A' address data just fine - up to the ninth clock. On the ninth clock - which follows clocks for bits 6,5,4,3,2,1,0,R/W - and should be where the slave responds with the ACK/NACK bit, the SDA line goes to 1/2Vcc - like the master is fighting the slave. It's like the device is trying its best to pull it low for an ACK, but the Master (OPI pin PA12) is not letting go. I have a pictur…

Since i got my cubietruck i always wanted a case for it, this is only some renderings from fusion360 but i hope to have this laser cut by the end of next week. will post the dxf files as soon as i verify measurements are good. Should fit a 2.5inch HDD clearance should be good for any HDD height and a 40mm fan to keep everything cool. https://plus.google.com/+VladConut/posts/83DE48BfaeV?pid=6253694765056043538&oid=107327773320252263907

I just updated the fswebcam code on github so you are able to set Exposure, Vflip and Hflip contols using command line if you don't want to mess with kernel side. Grab the code: git clone https://github.com/avafinger/fswebcam cd fswebcam ./configure --prefix=/usr --disable-v4l1 --enable-32bit-buffer make sudo make install Some command line samples: fswebcam --Vflip 1 -r 1600x1200 -p YUV420P - > cam1600x1200_2.jpg fswebcam --Hflip 1 -r 800x600 -p YUV420P - > cam800x600_1.jpg fswebcam --exposure 4 -r 640x480 -p YUV420P - > cam640x480_1.jpg Exposure = [-4 to 4] Vflip = [0,1] - Flip image Vertically Hflip = [0,1] - Filp image Horizontally Enjoy

I guess everyone knows that downloading distros in general takes a lot of bandwidth, same with armbian even thought the armbian distro i only a couple of hundreds of MB. so beside offering direct download why not start using p2p downloads like ubuntu and other distros do already in order to save bandwidth. We can use the openbittorrent.com public tracker - i already have a cubietruck which is powered 24/7 for my p2p needs so i would mind sharing some armbian distros via p2p. What do you guys think ?

Hi, as I have trouble with aging SDCards, I was thinking of getting a new SBC with eMMC (I already have Odroid XU4, but it's not cheap). I'm pretty happy with OrangePi Zero, but would love to find a SBC with a 64bits SoC, Gigabit Ethernet, 1GB of RAM (as 512MB implies swapping for my use case) and eMMC. OrangePi have the 3G-IOT (which is only 512MB) and 4G-IOT, but they are not supported, and I don't fancy all the gizmos that are on these boards. NanoPi M1+ almost fits the bill, but it's a 32bits SoC. NanoPi K1+ is almost perfect, but it's pricey (and has 2GB of RAM, which would not be a problem if it was cheaper). Any suggestion? …

it's nice and handy to be able to backup our os image and restore it, just in case. The problem is that a full os backup need the root partition to be mounted read only. And some of us are running the device without any monitor attached (headless) or it's not very practical to get acces to the sdcard (for exemple, when the device is installed in the electrical cabinet) So, I had the idea of creating some kind of ramdisk with some utilities (base tools, ssh, rsync...) to backup the "offline" root partition and send it to another computer. Ultimately, this process could be started also by network boot, by U-Boot script. When you decide to backup the root pa…

Target: Freez rootfs with overlayroot but allow application to write data file on permanent basis in separate partition on sd card. Steps Taken: 1. Partition SD card (8GB) with rootfs in primary partition (4GB) and extended/logical partition (4GB). 2. Formatted logical partition (ext4) 3. Created Entry in fstab to mount logical partition automatically at boot. 4. Run overlay root as described in https://docs.armbian.com/User-Guide_Advanced-Features/#how-to-freeze-your-filesystem Behaviour Observed: Partition is mounted at boot and files can be created bu…

Within the next few weeks or months a new Banana Pi model called BPI-R2 will be available. The average buyer of this board thinks of the R2 being an upgrade of BPi-R1 (also known as Lamobo R1) and will also think that software support situation will be the same (trusting in Armbian, Bananian and OpenWRT here). R2 is NOT an upgrade, it's just an entirely different device using an MediaTek MT7623N SoC instead of an Allwinner chip as all the other boards of this vendor. What do we know about the hardware: Quad core Cortex-A7 'up to 1.3Ghz' (no performance numbers known, no info about real clockspeeds, currently cpufreq seems still to be broken: '/cpu…

Hi - I flashed a new nanopineo2 with debian9 ( Armbian_5.44.180510_Nanopineo2_Debian_stretch_next_4.14.40 ) and set this to stable build before updating to latest "stable". Next step after reboot is to configure my static network ( eth0 ), but here things tend to be a bit different than previous flash ? Previously in advanced I edited /etc/network/interfaces to add my DNS-servers but in this build it seems " Network is managed by NetworkManager " so I instea I used " nmtui " to set these for "Wired Connection 1". Unfortunately I still see in /etc/resolv.conf : " nameserver 8.8.8.8 " first before my entries. I like to get rid of this nameserver but I am unable to…

Hi there, I am currently trying to have a solution based on Hx SoCs to encode raw 1080p video on the fly (at smaller resolutions). For the time being, I have: OrangePi Zero 1.4 OrangePi Zero 1.5 OrangePi One OrangePi PC (waiting for it) OrangePi OnePlus The Zero has a heating problem, for sure, the One seems to be better at handling the load. As for the OnePlus and PC, I haven't tried them yet. What I would like to find is a board with eMMC (so that I don't have to change the SDCard regularly), with a good heatsink. I just need an RJ45 plug, power, and I'm good to go. I don't need CSI, video output or anything el…

I have a need for a low-cost machine for my daughter. I could buy a Raspberry pi and run Ubuntu on it, but I have a few Amlogic boards at hand, and for the most part they work perfectly with Armbian (OK I know they are not a supported board, and I don't run an official build). My concern, though, is that lack of hardware support (audio, video decoding) which makes low-profile hardware quite sluggish to use in the daily life. My point is that I am tired of seeing perfectly usable (in theory) electronic products to to landfill (and create an environmental disaster) just because software is falling short. Not even software in fact, bu…

Hello Everyone, I'm currently doing an assignment for one of my classes, and in it, I have to give examples, using Java syntax, of *static* and *dynamic binding*. I am lost while understanding the work process. I understand the basic concept, that static binding happens at compile time and dynamic binding happens at runtime, but I can't figure out how they actually work specifically. I found an example of static binding online that gives this example and running the program on interviewbit. public static void callEat(Animal animal) { System.out.println("Animal is eating"); } public static void callEat(Dog dog) { System.out.println("Dog is eating")…

Hello! Use case is mostly about turning the kitchen TV into a kitchen PC, with main purpose displaying some market charts while I'm cooking (doing this on a phone is a pain in the eyes). Someone might try eventually to browse facebooks or download movies on that TV, but that's not important. Software displaying such charts available for Linux and ARM is mostly Java platforms (I believe Java is architecture-independent, the applications at least, but I might be wrong), using 300-800 MB RAM and 10-30% on a low-end x86 CPU. The Orange Pi+ 2E seems like the best thing for such hobo desktop purpose, mostly because people's support for it, but the H5 SoC advertis…

Hi guys. Ive seen this forum from time to time in search results. And now i finally registered to ask a question. Im looking for very cheap (under 80$), extreemely powersavvy pc with AES support. This machine will work in my home 24/7 as OpenVPN server only (no other stuff). I pay the bills myself so energy is my main concern. I already own 3 pc's , 2 monitors, 2 smartphones, and 3 network devices and this time this new machine needs to be almost unnoticable in my energy bills. At first I was thinking about Raspberry Pi 3 or RPi 3 + but i found that its bottleneck is gigabit NIC which is poorly implemented. In the other hand AFAIK ODROID C2 has si…

I'm only just getting started with this project. So far I have gotten a lot of help from some great people and looking to get further along with this project as time goes on. My main goal is to turn the tinkerboard into a linuxcnc control system with a drop in SDcard/EMMC image(s). The images will be preloaded with everything needed to setup a cnc machine for different control systems such as GPIO, ETHERNET, SPI depending on one's choice or needs for control. The gpio will provide direct step/dir, end stops, router power control signals, etc.... the normal cnc machine control logic one would expect when using a parallel port. Ethernet and SPI will be options for anyone u…

I bought a Clearfog Base shortly after they came out and have been running Armbian on it since early on as my home router. In general this is a solid SBC for a home router and light weight server. 2 x gigabit copper NICs, and an SFP cage - nothing dangling off USB here m.2 SATA storage - about the best support for performant storage of any SBC I know of; m.2 SATA leaves eMMC and SD in the dust. It's not NVMe, but for this little box, it's great. 1GB of memory - this is enough to run a few containers for light weight services like caching DNS and DHCP USB console - rather than exposing a UART on a few GPIO pins, this includes an authentic FTDI chi…

I have an orange pi plus 2e running 24/7 as a file server, torrent box, plex server, pi-hole etc. It has been running fine for the first few months I have gotten it. Recently the usb HDD that is connected to it started disconnecting often during heavy loads ( downloading torrents) or sometimes randomly. I assumed that it was the usb power adapter fault ( I used a samsung 5a 2v power adapter ) and I replaced it with an identical one. However the problem still persist. Could it be the usb to barrel plug cable that is sold from aliexpress be at fault?

The deb packages do not work for ARM, so you have to build it from source using my scripts. Install Zabbix
