Hello Folks I'm after some advice. I've been an avid user of Raspberry Pi's for some time and just love how good they are for tinkering around with without breaking my larger main system, helps me learn all the time. I've recently started using my Raspberry Pi (3b+) to automate several task. I have three mono and two python services running, well I say running...... Essentially if any more than two of these need to process data together the pi can't cope. Top command tells me RAM usage is often 90-100% and the CPU running at between 115-130% before system starts to error out and SSH becomes inaccessible. I feel like I need a…

This could be old news, but my plex update today threw a message out on the console (apt upgrade) that official armv7 and armv8 packages are available. This should be a pretty solid performance boost for most of us I would imagine, the old packages were fro armel NAS boxes. Testing it out on my XU4.

If not pause reading here and check out this topic and resume here after done: Hey, you found your way back. Nice. As stated I want to give away IRC bouncers for whoever likes to have one. It is not bound to Freenode (although it will come pre-configured for #armbian and I would appreciate to see you hang around there ). You are free to connect any IRC network you want as long as it is IPv6 capable. You don't know what a bouncer is? Pause reading and check https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BNC_(software) A…

  9. I run Armbian on a SanDisk 64GB micro SD card -- using it on Asus TB. Most of the SD card is free space and while I want to keep Armbian as is for the TB, I want to create a multi-OS folder for music and photos. I.e. to use on Android phone, Win PC, Linux Mint computer, etc. Are there any Armbian drawbacks to creating/having such a folder? If not, should I use Armbian to create the empty folder (henceforth, it will be filled with files from multiple devices)? Is there a "best" location to create this generic folder within the Ambian OS card--i.e., as a sub-folder of a default Armbian directory?

With complete kernel support for VDEC/VENC/ camera this is actually somewhat interesting, so maybe some people would like to play with it. I'm sure @Icenowy knows more than is humanly possible about the capabilities and whether it's worth talking about.

I've seen TKaiser make reference to different SOC's as good, bad, etc. and was wondering if there is any info available on the forum about the different SOC's. The good, the bad, the ugly, etc. would be really good. I've gotten several boards, but later I found the armbian site, and the forum where I've seen bad comments about different SOC's. I might be looking for a new board to play with in the future, and knowing which SOC is good, or bad would be really nice to know before starting the research on the next pi like device.

Open a new thread for all those stuff you might share with others here ends that also nobody reads it cause it's spread though various threads. So why not share them all in one thread? Idea: Share a link to the article in this thread with a short teaser what the article is about and maybe some opinions why you like the article. It should not be 'post link only without any description what the article is about'. So, I'll start with the first one (not that recent, but I think it's still worth to read): http://kroah.com…

Hi We've made a patch for the current a64 megous 5.10 kernel which enables writing to the 2K SID/Efuse security area of the A64/R18 processor. Our initial investigations have found that the A64 doesn't seem to match the tables found in the SID Register Guide, however we've proceeded to perform various write tests and are presenting our results here for anyone that may found it useful in further development. There shouldn't be any issues using the same patch in the 5.14 kernel, as the driver code is still the same. The patch won't be pushed upstream, and is for dev purposes only, as the original intend of the driver is to be read-only. (This is EFUSE area …

As nice at it is to bring this topics up, it's hard to follow them across the forum and when those questions come up from users you have to link the to a bunch of topics which they probably don't read cause it's simply to much to read (I now that this is a shitty argument, but reading is boring for most people in those days.. ). So my whole goal with java-periphery was to create a decent cross platform userspace IO library which I believe I have achieved. One of my other goals was to create a high performance GPIO API that's also cross platform. If you look around there aren't any from what I can tell. Most high performance GPIO libraries support only a few boards. What I've done is use a well known interface (GPIO device) and some MMIO code to detect deltas and generate the required resisters and masks from an input file. This surely beats doing this by hand which I tried at first. The result is code that supports Allwinner H2+/H3 and H5/H6 by using just an input file. I'm going to look at other…

Once it configured itself (and you have adjusted the configuration file) you run the script again. A similar approach could be done for DMS Paperless I guess. I have already done some research based on the pricing, but obviously, that would not always be a good criteria. Without hands-on experience, I do not believe that I would know the performance profile of the devices. So, I have assembled here some criteria that I think should be relevant: Pricing Not too expensive, <= $60 Surfing performance Anything that will allow really Smooth video playback on the browser YouTube and the likes sh…

I'm considering buying one of these boards for a small home server running Freedombox, which is a Debian-based distribution which is designed to make it easier to set up a home server for a number of uses, including media, contacts, calendars, XMPP and SIP. Has anyone tried installing either Freedombox or Debian on this board?

What if there was a pay per use ($5 to $10) build server for building a custom armbian image, including the ability to select: which distro which kernel which kernel modules a choice of server, desktop and server with qtEmbedded (for single UI devices with no windowing) a selection of common software packages (VLC, OpenCV) to be cross compiled the ability to upload an image and cross compile new software against it It could be a web based UI calling the armbian build script, with the best toolchain already installed, and dependencies set to be pulled i automatically (so hard to set up on a case to case basis). You have a lot of boards. Did you happen to be under the influence of overvoltages in the high temperature or period the use of the board broke down ?. Which producer is the worst in this respect?

  61. Hi all, This is my first post after reading all the good work this community has done. My goal is to create a cheap cluster of ARM boards. I started with the RPI3 but that's getting expensive real quick and the board isn't that good performance wise. So I started looking for different, cheaper boards but it still wouldn't be cheap enough if you plan to run 30-40 of them. So I started looking at older Smartphones with OpenCL support and came to the Samsung Galaxy S4 (The Exynos version). It is an older phone but once was one of Samsungs flagships and still offers good performance for what I want. I know the Exynos 5410 was used on the Odroid XU, so in my opinio…

  65. Orange Pi 5B subforum has recurring threads about eMMC boot loops, WiFi/Bluetooth regressions on mainline kernels, and the general "what image actually works on this thing" question. Joshua-Riek's ubuntu-rockchip was a common answer to that for a long time, but it was archived recently. This is a personal continuation fork in case it's useful to anyone working through those same issues. What this is: - Fork of Joshua-Riek/ubuntu-rockchip (archived) — same vendor 6.1 kernel base, not mainline - Therefore: onboard WiFi/BT works (no mainline driver regressions), eMMC boots reliably - Scope: Orange Pi 5B + Ubuntu 24.04 (Noble) only. jammy/oracular/plucky suite conf…

Goodmorning, i would like to ask if someone have ever tried to use musl libc with Armbian. From some research appear that using it instead of glibc make programs consume a lot less ram and less space on disk. I never tried personally, but i'm curious about that because it could be especially useful for single board computer with less than 2gb of ram (like mine ). Since, from what i know, programs do not statically link to glibc, but dynamically link to a generic libc at runtime, could be possible to use musl as drop in replacement for libc, without rebuild everything? From what i know there could be some incompatibilities because glibc does not fully respect the…

Since I've a pile of these boards lying about, and really prefer a proper case to a plastic one, I have one particular one that stood out to me: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079CF5FNX/ The case is aluminum, with machined end blocks and a perforated top. This would be my recommendation for any hot board like the Tinker Board, and to be honest the one I bought is quite nicely put together, with a somewhat industrial feel. Does anyone else have a favorite? I'm not really talking about those zebra cases or open-air acrylic/standoff sandwiches.

You may want to try this if your orangepi zero plus with NAS IO expansion combination is running too hot, with Nanopi neo 2 it runs a bit cooler (~ 65 vs 70 in full load). Not sure if it is because of the slower CPU speed or the more exposed heat sink.
