It's *amazing* what you can find reading the Armbian documentation! I dig the shell, even old-school in a virtual terminal or minimal server type setup. Normally that means going through some squinty-eyed hoops to get the Terminus console font installed with larger sizes in the first place on large monitors. Wait - what's this? sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup I did this in a virtual terminal, and allowed setup to pick the right character set for me. Then I blasted the framebuffer with the largest Terminus font size allowed. Perfection! Not a big deal to most, but having this be part of the standard distrib…

As much as I love Armbian, I'm also interested in the Tinycore project - not as competition, but as a slightly different discipline with a different outlook. Rather than merely reproduce what can be found at the project site, I'll run over a few quick concepts. Maybe you'll find it interesting as well. In a nutshell - what makes it tiny is that it is basically a kernel, which then relies upon Busybox for the shell/file/unix utilities, including init. You add on as much or little as you like, although there is the total basic commandline / shell offering, or lightweight Xvesa gui desktop to get started. If you want a full blown X11 setup, you ca…

Normally you could install (if you use a 64Bit arm-system/OS) the 64Bit version of stockfish with apt install stockfish stockfish is a uci-chess-engine where some Chessboard-Display-Apps can conenct to (later I would show how to use this with TCP) Then you will get (at this time) the Version 8 64Bit = 8 64 = 11/2016 But the actual stockfish-engine is at Version 10 = 12/2018 ( see http://blog.stockfishchess.org/ ) So I did clone the git-master at https://github.com/official-stockfish/Stockfish as .zip After unzipping and cd to ./Stockfish-master/src you could do -make clean -make help BUT there is for arm on…

Hello everyone, I wanna build a working android image for the orange pi lite 2. I'm using the sdk orange pi provides for the lite 2 in there download section. (http://www.orangepi.org/downloadresources/OrangePi%20Lite2/2018-01-11/745c41cc4f26ba6afefb8ed9379885c0.html). But the wifi is not working. Now I want to make wifi work and need some help from you guys. How can I add the driver to android and make it showing wifi networks in settings …

Hi all, I would like to let you know that I successfully added to nexmon (framework to patch broadcom WiFi's driver+fw and add functionalities, like monitor mode) support for Orange Pi Zero 2+ (H3 and H5) running the latest Armbian (kernel next) Both boards have AP6212A as WiFi chipset, that is based on same Broadcom core of Raspberry Pi 3B/0W (bcm43430a1). What I did is basically porting brcmfmac's patches to 4.19 and compiling the Arm toolchain (for firmware cross-compiling) for aarch64. It ain't much but it's honest work I kept airodump running for a few hours and it seems stable. If you want to take a look/try it you can find the code h…

I have recently bought a Orange Pi Lite 2 H6 1GB Quad Core Development Board, it comes with one USB 2.0 Port and one USB 3.0 Port. I like to connect the HD Web Camera using the USB 2.0 Port or USB 3.0 Port on to that board, and including setting up the Live-Stream using a Wi-Fi on my PC, so do you have Video Tutorial or Instructions for it . I don’t have Google drive so how can I download instructions for the Orange Pi Lite 2 H6 1GB Quad Core Development Board, Because the Orange Pi Forums is a joke, I can’t even chat to people on the forums when I am logged in, and I cannot Post my message in the forums regarding about technical help I need. Hi everyone, I'm building a micro server based on orange pi prime and armbian, after reading a lot about sd card wear out, I started thinking how could I improve that in my project. For my project it is ok, if data would be physically written to card, every 1 minute instead of on every commit. Now, what I can't find: is there a way to generally configure such memory buffering for a filesystem, so that I don't have to configure this for a database engine?

I like it to anounce some messages/informations via TTS ( T(text)T(o)(S)peech) . Normally I use espeak with a litte better sounding mbrola-voice (No. 6 german). But on Android you could buy - for cheap againt the PC-version - some better voices. Like my favourite german Voice "Julia" from Acapela. So I always wanted to use this voice for the informations. I did found a "server"-app for android which takes a UDP/HTTP-request to play a given string via the default TTS on the android-device (or a .MP3 stored in the memory of the android-device). Its named Home24-MediaPlayer - and can be found at (isnt anymore in the Google P…

Hi all. Since I wanted a 3D intro for my Youtube Channel I started working with Blender again. Now the intro is finished I've got time to try to make a 3D Armbian Logo. Spoiler I'll show some of the progress here for those who are interested. And if anybody else wants to do the same, go ahead. We can then compare the results. I've only just begun. But I needed a break so I started writing this. Here's how it begins... create a side view ... Then put those pictures in Blender, add a cube, position it right on both pictures, and start modeling.... All done with the NanoPi M4 on Armbian Bionic. …

I stopped tinkering for a while but https://magicmirror.builders/ perked my interest and been grinning at such a simple project and generally think its really great. I think they have made some odd options as the server and electron browser have been lumped together which is a really strange choice for absolutely no advantage. The server does need restarts and would seem far more often than you would expect and the use of electron means armv7l only which is a shame for the 0/1 owners. You can install using chromium and you certainly don't need the load of a desktop?! Dunno been wondering. I wanted to use a zero as love that tiny footprint and price and there are…

Working on an embedded SBC home automation application with a very small form factor. Size and reliability is at a premium. Just want to have a smart device at the door that will help notify and find me when someone presses the doorbell button, or detects motion at the entrance or curbside mailbox. Two way audio and outbound alerts are progressing nicely but complexity increases significantly when integrating video into the solution. For example, two widely used video trans-coding applications, ffmpeg and gstreamer, may or may not have hardware assisted image signal processing on the SBC. Is any form of image signal processing within scope when a board is supp…

Hi, Not sure where to post this so apologies if this is the wrong place. I currently have a .me.uk email domain and I can confirm addresses if I change them. However I am in the process of migrating to a .email domain and the confirmation emails never arrive. I am running into minor issues with this domain so this is not unique to Armbian forums. The vast majority of sites work ok but a rare few claim my email address is invalid or (as with the armbian forum) I never receive anything. The only way I have been able to post this was to change my email back to .me.uk and confirm via that. Is it possible to check if the softw…

The Orange Pi 4G-IOT page suggest that board uses a 4g module, since in the pic its written "4g module" and an arrow point to a chip. But it's SoC MT6737 has an integrated cellular modem ! Hi all. As regular I was looking for news about a new Odroid. Finally the news arrived. The N2 will have the Amlogic S922X with 4xA73(@1.8Ghz) + 2xA53(@1.9Ghz), a Mali-G52 GPU and 4GB DDR4 RAM. Looks very promising. It should quite a bit faster than the RK3399's. It does have a giant heatsink, so this thing will get very hot I suppose. https://forum.odroid.com/viewtopic.php?f=176&t=33781&p=245930&hilit=n2#p245930 Please let me know what you all think of this. I find it very interesting. Greetings, NicoD

Which do you think is the current SBC better suited as a (light) desktop? I think it would not be the one with the fastest CPU, but the one with the better software support for graphics acceleration and general usage. Hello Folks I'm after some advice. I've been an avid user of Raspberry Pi's for some time and just love how good they are for tinkering around with without breaking my larger main system, helps me learn all the time. I've recently started using my Raspberry Pi (3b+) to automate several task. I have three mono and two python services running, well I say running...... Essentially if any more than two of these need to process data together the pi can't cope. Top command tells me RAM usage is often 90-100% and the CPU running at between 115-130% before system starts to error out and SSH becomes inaccessible. I feel like I need a…

Hi all. Last weekend PINE64 was on FOSDEM with many new products. The PineBook Pro with RK3399. The new designed PINE H64 with the H6, now with wifi on-board and a small form-factor. That one's comming out next week. The PinePhone. A prototype of the PinePhone with an A64 SoC and 2GB of RAM. The PineCam. A multi-funtional network camera. A new SNES case. Exciting times to come with all that. I've made a video about it all. You can see it here. Greetings, NicoD

Hi all, I'm interested in developing and selling a product containing an Orange Pi or Raspberry Pi with embedded software protected by Intellectual Property. I would like it to be as hard as possible for a customer/hacker to get root access or steal software or data out of it. I found the OrangePi to have an 8GB eMMC which would be enough for both OS and our data and probably would be more secure than SD. I'm aware of how to secure network and application layers, but how to secure the device from a customer/hacker who bought the device and thus have physical access to it? I would like to prevent or make it very hard for him to read the eMMc memory or g…

hi ya all . i have orangepi one with armbian set up as web site server ... All good seems stable and cool despite being housed in the little cardboard box it arrived in. Now because I am on alternative power and sometimes this is in greater supply than others I would really like to reduce power consumption as much as possible Not interested in reducing processor power or memory speed or other things that may impact on its primary task of serving web pages and processing php. however the only connections to the board are ethernet and power I do not want or need any graphics camera USB or whatever nor do i need any services other than ssh and …

And no, that isn't supposed to be a rude title :-) ! Let me try to explain. What I'm trying to do is to have some sort of device run pi-hole. I have tried this in the past with success but when I last tried it I was using a raspberry pi zero and a usb wifi adapter - so it really only worked for one PC. What I'm now trying to do is to try to do the same for my entire home network. My guess is that I need some sort of small computer to put in front of the first device the internet touches (a router). So if I put a small arm based computer just before the router running pi-hole that (in theroy) should mean all the devices after the pi-hole get the black-hole ad b…

Hello, I spent many hours looking for any working solution how to access my Armbian desktop behind NAT and router with not static IP address over Internet. But I failed at all. In the course of my research I tried VNC Connect by RealVNC, TeamViever, AnyDesk and Google Chrome Remote Desktop. And found neither one working on Armbian. The first tree in the list got installed, but not worked. Maybe because all these were built for Rapsbian, not Armbian. The last one did not get installed at all. No idea why. May be because I had to install it into the Chromium browser, not the Chrome as Chrome is not available for armhf. May be it is not ready for armhf yet. …

Hi. I've just seen a small spelling mistake in the docs. I've searched for a thread to post these things but couldn't find any. From now on I'll post the mistakes I find here if ok. Hello, In my work I have 3 or 4 old PanaBoard-ES's which are waiting for purpose to live. https://eu.mouser.com/new/pandaboardorg/pandaboardES/ Is there any way that I can somehow install armbian? Sorry if this is silly question, but I can't find any straight-forward documentation on this topic. I've seen that Mali drivers was available for older kernel, but what about mainline? Asking this especially in context with this finding -- Maxime Ripard's article "Mali OpenGL support on Allwinner platforms with mainline Linux". Currently on clean Armbian install on NanoPi Neo Air I can't load mali: $ modinfo mali modinfo: ERROR: Module mali not found.

Hi there , I’m Jimmy. First post here... apologies in advance for any questions that might sound dumb. My plan: buy Android TV boxes and install Armbian to run browsers and remote control using AnyDesk. I chose Android TV boxes - everything is complete and contained in a small box + very cheap. For £45 for example, I can get with power supply - with 2GB RAM - not sure about processor though. - Should I consider other options? Like Orange Pi? I've got a 3rd generation Raspberry Pi - that is so poor for speed, chokes on one or 2 browser tabs. (I haven't tried Armbian - I will be doing shortly.) - N…

I wonder how much ram is consumed by kernel, system services and tmpfs on a typical armbian system? Rockchip rk3308G has 64MB ram packaged in cpu. A dirty cheap 4 layer board could have a cpu, a few discrete power chips, a mmc card slot, and a wifi/bt module, with a bunch of low speed io and two usb 2.0 port, one host and one otg. The cpu is quad core cortex A35, powerful and power efficient, compared to Pi Zero W or BBB. Does that sound interesting for an iot node? Or it is too crippled to do anything useful? I hope python or node.js could run on such a board, but for node, the memory usage should be very careful. Any suggestions?

Hi I want an ups for my Hc 2 - Have seen the link: https://magazine.odroid.com/article/aff ... 00-uptime/ But the likelihood I can make it is small I am not good at soldering. - Are there any who can give advice on an ups I can put on the 220V side? And then I would like to support the possibility of closing the box via usb / linux in case of power failure. Someone who has experience with a UPS that supports this in armbian debian stetch?

I'd like to choose an SBC -- running Armbian of course -- for the purpose of processing audio via GStreamer UDP packets. My requirements: -- Half duplex. Must support input (take audio and covert to UDP) and output (decode UDP and generate analog audio) but it is not necessary to handle bidirectional streams simultaneously. One direction at a time is sufficient. -- Process audio with good but not great quality. 16 bit/44.1 kHz is the target bit rate/sample rate. -- First choice of I/O are two 3.5mm jacks on the coastline, one for input and the other for output. -- Second choice of I/O are via GPIO pins. -- I'd rather not use HDMI f…

Where do you store the KeePass-DB? Where would you recommend me to store a Keepass-file? Usually I have my personal documents in my cloud account - but i am not sure if this is safe. Would it be safe to use the cloud for this file? Can i secure it even further, by adding another (extra) layer of security by encrypting the file. General question; How safe is this? What risks do I need to know about? what can i do with the KeePass password file, there are several arguments to decide where to store it. In my humble opinion, if the passwords are really, really important to someone, one should make the decision based on: - the risk of the file being …

Make Atheros drivers ignore regulatory domain set in EEPROM I found the bottom link https://sites.google.com/site/twisteroidambassador/linux/ath-user-regd "For my purpose I need these two patches: 402-ath_regd_optional.patch and 404-regd_no_assoc_hints.patch. Didn't know this thing was ever going to see the light of day: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Lichee-Pi-Zero-1GHz-Cortex-A7-512Mbit-DDR-Development-Board-Module-Mini-PC/32931418720.html I see the original board outline is still there, but it grew a bit of a waistline A valid question is why, and I'm not sure, nor will I buy it, just thought it interesting that it popped up. With complete kernel support for VDEC/VENC/ camera this is actually somewhat interesting, so maybe some people would like to play with it. I'm sure @Icenowy knows more than is humanly possible about the capabilities and whether it's worth talking about.

Which sd-micro card do you recommend ? I mean card costs max 10 USD or even cheaper.

Today I gave OpenMediaVault another try - because 2 of my "very" old NAS-Boxes (normally sitting on a cupboard) only support SMB v1 and I dont know how long my Synology DS109 will live. Noob question - Forgive me here, I'm quite new to u-boot. I made a change in my /boot/armbianENV.txt and my Tinkerboard won't boot. I know exactly what to fix, except I'm not accustomed to not being able to find the file. I've mounted the SD Card on another Linux OS and can see/mount all my partitions, I have them mounted but none of the /boot directories are what is typically there when armbian is booted. I'm assuming u-boot is an image and /boot gets dynamically created. Done some searching but not making much sense of what I'm seeing. How/Where do I find the /boot/armbianENV.txt file with the SD Card mounted to another machine? Thanks in advance.

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this, so moderators, please feel free to move my post. I'm involved in getting some new development boards onto the market and we've based our software as so many others, on Armbian. What would be needed to get official support from Armbian? A bit of information about the hardware can be found here https://project-x.com.tw/ We haven't opened up our git as yet, but it'll be done soon. I understand that there might be quite a few things we have to do, but we're willing to do it and will provide hardware to developers as …

Hi, I am about to buy my first orange pi (PC 2, PC or PC Plus) and I have no idea what case to buy. I appreciate people want to do all sorts of things with their SBCs, but the usage of "cheap PC" must be common, and users will have the expectation of connecting up a HDD or SSD. So I was thinking: how about a M.2 slot instead supporting PCIe x4 so we can buy the biggest, fastest and cheapest per GB SSDs around. You could then eliminate the TF slot, micro-SD cards and eMMC modules, and the system could boot off the drive in the normal Linux manner. I'm not sure where the "support for PCIe x4" comes from, or how much this would affect the price. In the same way, I will probably never use GPIO pins, or IR receivers, cameras, touchscreens, on-board microphones…
