Hi, Updated to 5.70 next on Opi pc and after 2 days I cant login via ssh and i get: ssh_exchange_identification: Connection closed by remote host Some times ssh login just hangs. As I am not near the machine, is there any way to remotely reboot the Opi pc without ssh access? ps: I am sure that the machine is working as wireguard is working fine and I can ping the machine as well as telnet port 22!

And no, that isn't supposed to be a rude title :-) ! Let me try to explain. What I'm trying to do is to have some sort of device run pi-hole. I have tried this in the past with success but when I last tried it I was using a raspberry pi zero and a usb wifi adapter - so it really only worked for one PC. What I'm now trying to do is to try to do the same for my entire home network. My guess is that I need some sort of small computer to put in front of the first device the internet touches (a router). So if I put a small arm based computer just before the router running pi-hole that (in theroy) should mean all the devices after the pi-hole get the black-hole ad b…

Hello, I spent many hours looking for any working solution how to access my Armbian desktop behind NAT and router with not static IP address over Internet. But I failed at all. In the course of my research I tried VNC Connect by RealVNC, TeamViever, AnyDesk and Google Chrome Remote Desktop. And found neither one working on Armbian. The first tree in the list got installed, but not worked. Maybe because all these were built for Rapsbian, not Armbian. The last one did not get installed at all. No idea why. May be because I had to install it into the Chromium browser, not the Chrome as Chrome is not available for armhf. May be it is not ready for armhf yet. …

Hello Friends, Is anyone aware of jtag support on orangepi 2g/3g/4g iot boards. Looking at the schematics, i could find the tms/tdi etc pins (for 2g/3g/4g iot), but they seem to be not connected to any gpio or other headers. Kindly correct me if wrong. I know these have UART, but am specifically looking for some jtag access. Thanks Tarkshya

hi ya all . i have orangepi one with armbian set up as web site server ... All good seems stable and cool despite being housed in the little cardboard box it arrived in. Now because I am on alternative power and sometimes this is in greater supply than others I would really like to reduce power consumption as much as possible Not interested in reducing processor power or memory speed or other things that may impact on its primary task of serving web pages and processing php. however the only connections to the board are ethernet and power I do not want or need any graphics camera USB or whatever nor do i need any services other than ssh and …

Hello, In my work I have 3 or 4 old PanaBoard-ES's which are waiting for purpose to live. https://eu.mouser.com/new/pandaboardorg/pandaboardES/ Is there any way that I can somehow install armbian? Hi there , I’m Jimmy. First post here... apologies in advance for any questions that might sound dumb. My plan: buy Android TV boxes and install Armbian to run browsers and remote control using AnyDesk. I chose Android TV boxes - everything is complete and contained in a small box + very cheap. For £45 for example, I can get with power supply - with 2GB RAM - not sure about processor though. - Should I consider other options? Like Orange Pi? I've got a 3rd generation Raspberry Pi - that is so poor for speed, chokes on one or 2 browser tabs. (I haven't tried Armbian - I will be doing shortly.) - N…

I wonder how much ram is consumed by kernel, system services and tmpfs on a typical armbian system? Rockchip rk3308G has 64MB ram packaged in cpu. A dirty cheap 4 layer board could have a cpu, a few discrete power chips, a mmc card slot, and a wifi/bt module, with a bunch of low speed io and two usb 2.0 port, one host and one otg. The cpu is quad core cortex A35, powerful and power efficient, compared to Pi Zero W or BBB. Does that sound interesting for an iot node? Or it is too crippled to do anything useful? I hope python or node.js could run on such a board, but for node, the memory usage should be very careful. Any suggestions?

Hi I want an ups for my Hc 2 - Have seen the link: https://magazine.odroid.com/article/aff ... 00-uptime/ But the likelihood I can make it is small I am not good at soldering. - Are there any who can give advice on an ups I can put on the 220V side? And then I would like to support the possibility of closing the box via usb / linux in case of power failure. Someone who has experience with a UPS that supports this in armbian debian stetch?

I'd like to choose an SBC -- running Armbian of course -- for the purpose of processing audio via GStreamer UDP packets. My requirements: -- Half duplex. Must support input (take audio and covert to UDP) and output (decode UDP and generate analog audio) but it is not necessary to handle bidirectional streams simultaneously. One direction at a time is sufficient. -- Process audio with good but not great quality. 16 bit/44.1 kHz is the target bit rate/sample rate. -- First choice of I/O are two 3.5mm jacks on the coastline, one for input and the other for output. -- Second choice of I/O are via GPIO pins. -- I'd rather not use HDMI f…

Where do you store the KeePass-DB? Where would you recommend me to store a Keepass-file? Usually I have my personal documents in my cloud account - but i am not sure if this is safe. Would it be safe to use the cloud for this file? Can i secure it even further, by adding another (extra) layer of security by encrypting the file. General question; How safe is this? What risks do I need to know about? what can i do with the KeePass password file, there are several arguments to decide where to store it. In my humble opinion, if the passwords are really, really important to someone, one should make the decision based on: - the risk of the file being …

Make Atheros drivers ignore regulatory domain set in EEPROM I found the bottom link https://sites.google.com/site/twisteroidambassador/linux/ath-user-regd "For my purpose I need these two patches: 402-ath_regd_optional.patch and 404-regd_no_assoc_hints.patch. Not sure if this is the correct place to post this, so moderators, please feel free to move my post. I'm involved in getting some new development boards onto the market and we've based our software as so many others, on Armbian. What would be needed to get official support from Armbian? We're currently on a mix of Armbian with Ubuntu 18.04 and kernel 4.18.x. A bit of information about the hardware can be found here https://project-x.com.tw/ We haven't opened up our git as yet, but it'll be done soon. I understand that there might be quite a few things we have to do, but we're willing to do it and will provide hardware to developers as …

Today I gave OpenMediaVault another try - because 2 of my "very" old NAS-Boxes (normally sitting on a cupboard) only support SMB v1 and I dont know how long my Synology DS109 will live. Yes - I got 2 NanoPi Neo2 with NAS-Case, but for a test-ride I compiles stretch for the Cubieboard A10 (because of the SATA-Port). While installing OpenMediaVault vis softys in armbin-config the install-script has to install the OMV Keyring. Noob question - Forgive me here, I'm quite new to u-boot. I made a change in my /boot/armbianENV.txt and my Tinkerboard won't boot. I know exactly what to fix, except I'm not accustomed to not being able to find the file. I've mounted the SD Card on another Linux OS and can see/mount all my partitions, I have them mounted but none of the /boot directories are what is typically there when armbian is booted. I'm assuming u-boot is an image and /boot gets dynamically created. Done some searching but not making much sense of what I'm seeing. How/Where do I find the /boot/armbianENV.txt file with the SD Card mounted to another machine? Thanks in advance.

Hi, I am about to buy my first orange pi (PC 2, PC or PC Plus) and I have no idea what case to buy. I appreciate people want to do all sorts of things with their SBCs, but the usage of "cheap PC" must be common, and users will have the expectation of connecting up a HDD or SSD. So I was thinking: how about a M.2 slot instead supporting PCIe x4 so we can buy the biggest, fastest and cheapest per GB SSDs around. You could then eliminate the TF slot, micro-SD cards and eMMC modules, and the system could boot off the drive in the normal Linux manner. I'm not sure where the "support for PCIe x4" comes from, or how much this would affect the price. In the same way, I will probably never use GPIO pins, or IR receivers, cameras, touchscreens, on-board microphones…

Hey, we made a tool that allows us to configure the wireless connection of a headless systems using just a smartphone. The reason was that we often ended up in situations where we prepared a headless system with our full stack (see https://nymea.io) and handed it over to someone else to just it in their WLAN. The target group are end users which are not able to use a console. In an attempt to return something to the community we've created a standalone tool for this to share it with others, BerryLan. At the moment it requires to add the nymeas debian repository and install nymea-networkmanager. You can find all the details about it on https://berrylan.app. I…

Playback is fine (hardware acceleration is supported), the menus are responsive but most addons are sluggish (to say the least). I saw various threads about kodi on armbian (e.g. this and this) and all say that the problem is lack of support of hw acceleration. I assume the more powerful cpu would help with the addons but, unless something has changed, without hw acceleration it makes no sense to even try. Is the situation the same now or has it improved? Maybe I should just get a raspberry pi 3b+? (it should be far more powerful than the pi zero, right?…

Seems that hardware accelerated Videodecoding & GPU usage is the new 'hot topic' at the moment. A lot of this stuff is discussed in various topics and threads and subforums here. As nice at it is to bring this topics up, it's hard to follow them across the forum and when those questions come up from users you have to link the to a bunch of topics which they probably don't read cause it's simply to much to read (I now that this is a shitty argument, but reading is boring for most people in those days.. ). So why does it make sense to open another thread targeting this topic? This should summarize the things that work, no suggestions what could work, should work,…

Relatively random topic, however who here has one/uses one? I just picked up a Sain Smart Genmitsu Pro, 3018 size. I actually got it working with my NanoPi K2 first, because why not? And bCNC seems like quite a nice program, I assume when I move this to my shop it will be sporting a 7" touchscreen and a stable board.

Hi guys. Ive seen this forum from time to time in search results. And now i finally registered to ask a question. Im looking for very cheap (under 80$), extreemely powersavvy pc with AES support. This machine will work in my home 24/7 as OpenVPN server only (no other stuff). I pay the bills myself so energy is my main concern. I already own 3 pc's , 2 monitors, 2 smartphones, and 3 network devices and this time this new machine needs to be almost unnoticable in my energy bills. At first I was thinking about Raspberry Pi 3 or RPi 3 + but i found that its bottleneck is gigabit NIC which is poorly implemented. In the other hand AFAIK ODROID C2 has si…

Since I've a pile of these boards lying about, and really prefer a proper case to a plastic one, I have one particular one that stood out to me: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079CF5FNX/ The case is aluminum, with machined end blocks and a perforated top. This would be my recommendation for any hot board like the Tinker Board, and to be honest the one I bought is quite nicely put together, with a somewhat industrial feel. Does anyone else have a favorite? I'm not really talking about those zebra cases or open-air acrylic/standoff sandwiches.

This mini-tutorial is for those interested in running OpenGL applications and games on OpenGL ES. Most (maybe all?) SoCs around support OpenGL ES, which is almost a stripped down version of OpenGL. OpenGL ES is mainly used by smartphone apps, but on Linux and generally on desktop computer OpenGL clients are the most common. This tutorial is very simple and will teach you on how to download and compile GL4ES (github: https://github.com/ptitSeb/gl4es), a nice piece of software that converts most OpenGL calls into OpenGL ES counterparts to achieve some degree of compatibility and let your apps run on our SoCs. The target of this tutorial is the Rockchip RK3288 SoC …

Hi All. I have some confusion on Touchscreen interface. My ques is very basic on LCD interface types ... apologies for that. I like to use a 3.5" Touchscreen. For CPU either Allwinner H6 and RK3328 is in my choice. I have attached the Touchscren Datasheet. Here we will build a custom PCB for the Touchscreen. But I found RK3328 don't have any LCD Interface. So is there any possible way to use this Touchscreen with RK3328 based SBC like Rock64? On the other hand Allwinner H6 have RGB LCD port. But in Touchscreen Datasheet it said LCD Driver IC is ILI9488. As H6 have direct RGB Port so do we need to use this ILI9488 Driver? …

I've been testing Pi Hole for a few days on an Orange Pi PC with ARMBIAN jessie, connected to the network by the ethernet port. Pi Hole which is the last thing I installed. A few years ago I have OPi PC as UPnP server, VPN, DHCP, print, samba, transmission, jdownloader, BtSync, and something else that now I do not fall (curiously I did not have it as a server dns), without problems of operation since I am using Since I installed Pi Hole, if the ethernet connection loses link for a moment, for example because the router reboots, the connection stays fried, it is not able to lift when the link returns. This if I turn over the image prior to installing Pi Hole, it doe…

HI. I have a system on emmc protected by overlayroot. Sensitive data are written to sd card. Everything works as expected. The question is: Is there a way to temporarily access the root filesystem from python script ? Of course, I can temporarily deactivate protection by ‘overlayroot-chroot’ command from terminal and make changes, but that's not what I mean. I have a web server application written in a flask framework. On one of its pages, users can set network parameters, e.g. IP, mask, dns . Is it possible at all, eg when the user accepts changes to disable protection, save changes to root filesystem and immediately enable protection ?

Hi, I noticed OrangePi have started selling a 7" lcd with an hdmi adapter. It's only 1000x600 (which might be an awkward resolution to get working with some SBCs) but I thought I'd give one a try. This might fit into my farm build as a dedicated status monitor or something It's 22 usd plus shipping: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/7inch-TFT-LCD-Screen-for-Orange-Pi-H3-chip-Boards/32831758014.html

The company behind the Geekbox (my only SBC I still never booted ) in the meantime more known for their Amlogic Vim/Vim2 boards also joins the RK3399 bandwagon with a concept similar to Geekbox. A core module to be combined with a carrier board: Since it's just another RK3399 design Armbian support later is likely. Use case: simple NAS Boards to consider: anything with at least UASP, better yet, USB 3.0 or SATA. But stability (under heavy disk I/O and load average) matters over speed! Also, Gigabit Ethernet is a must. For all the SBC's which are listed as Supported, to what degree can I trust that I won't get kernel freezes, or filesystem errors, when disk I/O gets thick and furious? I completely understand if the disk I/O slows down to a crawl, as the load average gets high, but I'm wanting to feel assured that a board marked as Supported won't "flake out" on me, potentially destroying all my files, should I decide to use it for a simple NAS. Here is…

Purpose: Discuss displays that at least someone has tested and/or use, particularly touchscreens/strange resolutions/sizes/alternative technologies (DSI, parallel TFT, SPI, etc) Goal: Have some kind of "This at least worked with this version at that time" resource. Over and over people post things like "I have a Waveshare <XX.YY.ZZ> and Armbian can't do what the vendor kernel that uses a crap kernel full of security holes and crusty drivers can". So, point them here and say: "By the power of Google, I beseech thee, search!" And I have some random stuff lying around.

Hi, I have currently a Raspberry Pi 3B+ running as WiFi access point, hooked up to the router via Ethernet. This allows me to play around and redirect traffic via TOR or whatever I can think of on the Pi. It works quite well, but I actually think the PI is possibly a bit overpowered and too expensive. Can anyone suggest an SBC that can handle the task equally well (stable + good WiFi performance for a handful of clients with connection to 50MBit/s uplink) but is less expensive? I already had a look at the Orange Pi Zero Plus 2, which seems suitable in terms of specs. Thanks, 1llusion

I'm sure @tkaiser has something like this already, but for the rest of us ;-) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07C34MT32/ This should work, of course you need to power the drive, I've ordered one so I can get a look at those partially hidden headers spots, looks to be a sata power pattern (15 places) May need some solder time to get both headers and (I would guess) the heavy pads are for the various power rails if you want to "spin rust" as I've seen it written. Finding the SATA power socket could prove challenging for the hobbyist, I'll pull up the Molex number for it I stand corrected, my search through the usual channels show …

Hi all, this is my first posting although I've been following armbian for some time. Hopefully this is the right forum area... Hello All. I am fairly new in Embedded Linux and in this forum. I need to develop a small size IoT ARM Quad Core Board. I like to have some advise on my project's proper development path. First let me share my target needs of the project: -1. ARM CPU (run Linux) - I think for my project, Quad-Core is more than enough -2. RAM 1GB/2GB -3. eMMC 16GB for OS Boot -4. SD Card for file storage (up-to 512GB) -5. Two USB2.0 (One Host Mode and One Device Mode) and one USB3.0 (Only Host Mode is Ok. Its for faster file transfer to connected external Portable HDD) -6. Capacitive Touchscreen 3.5 Inch (as we will run some Python based…

First post here... apologies in advance for any questions that might sound dumb. My plan: buy Android TV boxes and install Armbian to run browsers and remote control using AnyDesk. I chose Android TV boxes - everything is complete and contained in a small box + very cheap. For £35 for example, I can get with power supply - with 2GB RAM - not sure about processor though. - Should I consider other options? Like Orange Pi? I've got a 3rd generation Raspberry Pi - that is so poor for speed, chokes on one or 2 browser tabs. (I haven't tried Armbian - I will be doing shortly.) - Need recommended hardware. Whether it's an…

I've been seeding torrents on my CubieBoard2 earlier; in Juli I moved to one of my EspressoBIN boards. I allocated 128GB for the torrents (since it was stated that I needed at least 60GB for Armbian). -But now Armbian seem to take up 123GB on my dedicated transmission partition: $ df -h . Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sdc13 128G 123G 4.5G 97% /transmission It seems I have 388 completed Armbian files (and no other files). -Does this mean that something went out of control - like files not being deleted - or does it mean that the torrents use this much space now ?

In general I want to know, how many arm mainboards is it required to order and the manufacturer starts negotiating about specifications you want to get modified? I do not say at the same price. If I tell the manufacturer of the orange pi one, I want the arm mainboard but it must have 4gb ram and usb mini b connectors at what volume number does the manufacturer start listening? 50000 mainboards? I've been considering some options for experiments with electronic wind instruments and synthesizers, such as ZynAddSubFx, Fluidsynth. I've seen project Zynthian and they are running it on a Raspberry Pi 3, so that should be a safe choice, right? Although I'm not sure if they are using some mainstream Debian or something heavily adjusted. Also, for a wind instrument I hoped to find something smaller so I can even build it into the instrument itself; although I don't have my hopes high on that - I'm not sure if I'll find an SBC with enough power. I happen to be one of lucky (or not) backers of NextThingCo C.H.I.P. (now mostly out-of-busi…

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a Single board computer suggestion for me to use as a Web surfing mini-station. Think, in the style of poor man's Cafe. I have already done some research based on the pricing, but obviously, that would not always be a good criteria. Without hands-on experience, I do not believe that I would know the performance profile of the devices. So, I have assembled here some criteria that I think should be relevant: Pricing Not too expensive, <= $60 Surfing performance Anything that will allow really Smooth video playback on the browser YouTube and the likes sh…

I must say that im suprised. I installed Armbian 5.59 Bionic on Nanopi T4 and found little cores A53 overclocked 1.80GHZ and big A72 cores clocked 1.90GHZ. Im using double radiator 3.5 cm x 3.5 cm. It is not very hot. I was not expecting such good job from Nanopi. On Firefly RK3399 i must to use third 3.5x 3.5radiator and it is getting hot at clock speed 1.4ghz a53 and 1.81ghz a72.
