As far as I can tell, many, if not all, targets generate an identical postinst script for the linux-headers package by patching scripts/package/builddeb. A search of the Armbian build repo for "Compiling headers - please wait" produces 33 code results. This means that improving the postinst script (for example, as discussed here) requires updating 33 patch files. I'd be happy to help improve the situation, but I'm unsure how to proceed. Could we have a global postinst script for the linux-headers package, and somehow copy it into place? or must we use a patch file?

I've been using ./compile.sh to play around booting a NanoPi Neo via FEL and come across an issue when using the default branch. When I build using "BRANCH=dev" it boots but when using ./compile.sh KERNEL_ONLY=no BRANCH=default BOARD=nanopineo PROGRESS_DISPLAY=plain RELEASE=jessie BUILD_DESKTOP=no ROOTFS_TYPE=fel The resulting kernel doesn't boot and shows the following error via serial on the Neo. "Error: unrecognized/unsupported machine ID (r1 = 0x00000000)" I found extracting output/cache/sdcard/boot/boot.scr, adding "setenv machid 1029" and generating the boot.scr image again I was able to get it to boot. Have I missed a step in the compile.sh process…

I have pushed some changes for XU4 with the help of so many internet sources (thanks!) - uboot 2016.05 - vanilla kernel (4.7.6 as of now) - single partition (using the LABEL=rootfs for booting) - SD & eMMC for eMMC, burn the image on both a SD card & eMMC first, boot with SD card to write files on mmcblk0boot0 partition, then cd /usr/lib/linux-u-boot-next-odroidxu4_5.21-GRO_armhf (probably remove -GRO) -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 15616 oct. 1 01:58 bl1.bin.hardkernel -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 14592 oct. 1 01:58 bl2.bin.hardkernel.1mb_uboot -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1807 oct. 1 01:58 sd_fusing.sh -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 262144 oct. 1 01:58 tzsw.bin.hard…

Hello, not sure if I'm at the right place here, so please let me know if I'm wrong and where I need to be. Thanks in advance and my apologies... My problem is that for some time now does Apt keep deleting custom kernels in /boot and the package appears to delete kernels not only with a rough pattern, but with "-f" as well, ignoring any file permissions. I've been watching this for a while now and it has left me at first with unbootable devices until I've noticed the cause. I would very much appreciate it of the Armbian kernel package wouldn't just delete anything that looks remotely like a kernel from /boot with a "rm -f *", but only removes the fi…

I've been working on the rtl8189fs patches for Mainline. Althouth the source code change between Legacy and Mainline is pretty trivial, preparing good and nice patches becomes a tedious task : - First, the original patch in Legacy contains tons of DOS file formatted (strange for a Linux driver, shame on Realtek) and even dos2unix failed on some files because of binaries character (probably Chinese), I had to edit many files because I wouldn't "signed-off" such ugly thing. (btw, maybe that dos2unix job should be done one Legacy to make it cleaner) - It is a quick big patch, but about the same size as the one in Legacy, about 10MB of text file. - Even after …

Based on discussions the last days/weeks it seems obvious to me that we should document default Armbian security so that people know what they get and where to tweak if they have specific concerns. I took a few minutes to start with a list of issues that should IMO be addressed (no specific order): Explain where password strength policies originate Restore distro default sshd settings if concerned: sed -i 's/PermitRootLogin yes/PermitRootLogin without-password/' /etc/ssh/sshd_config Use and purpose of haveged: https://github.com/igorpecovnik/lib/issues/503 'Secure delete' on SD card, eMMC or SSD (overwriting contents on the FS layer requires a sync call if followed …

Ideally I'd like to get a structure in place that rebuilds armbian with each commit to igorpecovnik/lib. I'd love people's ideas on the best way to go about this. I am pretty good with jenkins and all his pals, so if you have a favorite, please do let me know. Dockerfile Any feedback? It should work even on systems that don't have the needed native ubuntu 14.04 Vagrantfile Just used it to make a build myself, seems to be working fine, though there's some troubleshooting to be done with the build. Unsure what the source of the issue is, and had build mainline for opi, so instead I will now build opi-oldkernel.

Looking at this: https://github.com/armbian/build/commit/925b8592220a590b09215f08d3f06de6b8fe238d First, I would put most of the dependencies in "Recommends" and "Suggests" sections, otherwise people will be unable to remove non-essential packages they don't want. Second, I would put something like "nodm | lightdm" so you could switch the login manager without breaking things. And third, since we are discussing the desktop packages, personally I think that lightdm login dark theme looks relatively ugly (mostly you can't see element borders for user switcher dropdown menu, it's hard to read a dark font on a dark background, etc.) so mayb…

Hi, I've been building nanopineoplus2 stretch images with armbian build on commit c3f02be362aa216f2d3ee011916f9a18baf58291 (August 4, 2018) and it worked fine until earlier this week. Hi, I'm trying to build debian kernel but using mainline 5.4.12 + patches from patch/kernel/sunxi-current. I took non disabled patches and apply patch -p1 for all of them and it fails at patch 0010-general-h6-add-dma-i2c-ir-spi-uart.patch in first hunk because opp node in dts doesn't exists. It's not in mainline not in patches. I have no idea how this works though. Is this patch then skipped or? Thanks. Marek

By default when I build armbian on master, it downloads the toolchains from the china mirror for me, but those always fail to verify the gcc-linaro-aarch64-none-elf-4.8-2013.11_linux.tar.xz with gpg BAD SIGNATURE. I tried to compile any distro for the first time, so I'm a total n00b here (used Oracle VirtualBox on a Win x64 machine, Ubuntu 10.04.02 x64)... They seem to be compiled fine. Moved the result images, written to new SD Cards with Etcher... Legacy Ubuntu server did boot. Legacy Ubuntu Desktop did not boot (even red/green lights did not light up). Can you give me some starting points or links about how to deal with this issue? Thank you in advance... BTW: I'm giving a shot to this to get rid of unnecessary SW installed in the desktop version, such as LibreOffice etc... I also don't know if this is possible...

Hi all I am working on having a working cpufreq support for Allwinner H5 SoC According to the mainline plan, it won't happen anytime soon (it is not even scheduled for 4.13) However some (working) patches already exist, there is a quite updated fork at: https://github.com/megous/linux Reading the provided information, there is also an absolutely required patch for u-boot that fix a PLL1 configuration Apparently this patch is already included in Armbian, it is the patch: But for some reason I really don't understand, this is not applied to the u-boot source, the file doesn't contain the patch. Hello, guys, I recently posted a problem with Banana Pi M2 framebuffer - my Waveshare35a TFT display was not working with "next" mainline image. Hi, while toying around build system for Odroid C1 I saw that toolchains for arm-linux-gnueabihf where "old" as we are at "gcc-linaro-7.2.1-2017.11-x86_64_arm-linux-gnueabihf" since the 7.3.1 looks like it is not available for this platform. So I did some changes in lib/general.sh and added the following as a fast hack: "https://releases.linaro.org/components/toolchain/binaries/7.4-2019.02/arm-linux-gnueabihf/gcc-linaro-7.4.1-2019.02-x86_64_arm-linux-gnueabihf.tar.xz" "https://developer.arm.com/-/media/Files/downloads/gnu-a/8.2-2019.01/gcc-arm-8.2-2019.01-x86_64-arm-linux-gnueabihf.tar.xz" Then I modified the configuration files fo…

I've been doing a little housekeeping with github issues and PR's to eliminate noise or bring closure. I've created a STALE label for issues that lack closure or don't have clear actionable items and closing. Hopefully that makes them easy to revisit later if one is interested. I've also posted some follow-ups on a few to try to get things moving and merged a few PRs while applying extreme discretion. Let me know if I do anything you disagree with or want me to back off. I'm trying to be mindful of everyone's work.

Wondering if we should have a release notes/changelog that gets tossed into the image somewhere? Something very simple that we maintain by just updating a text file with a significant commit. (Like changing kernel versions, fixing a known bug from previous release, etc). Maybe toss it up onscreen at first boot. Moving the thermal zones on Tinker made me think that might be a good idea.

Hello guys, There is an issue in build framework that makes impossible building my custom kernel for sun6i without changing your code. In the file sunxi_common.inc the variable LINUXFAMILY is forced to "sunxi" (unless it is sun8i) and my custom file userpatches/sources/sun6i.conf is not included. Of course I can hack sunxi_common.inc but much better if you make sort of correction for this issue. Thanks

Hello, guys, I need to set overlay_prefix=sun6i-a31 in armbianEnv.txt automatically. I found that the default sunxi_common.inc behavior does not allow applying my custom file "userpatches/sources/sun6i.conf" where I have OVERLAY_PREFIX variable declared. In the file sunxi_common.inc the variable LINUXFAMILY is reset to "sunxi" for sun6i architecture. My question is: do you have another way to set OVERLAY_PREFIX variable ? Thank you.

I want to override some configurations from $LINUXFAMILY.conf in SOMEBOARD.conf/wip/csc. One way is to provide $SRC/userpatches/sources/$LINUXFAMILY.conf, but I don't like this approach. I want to make these modification permanent. Maybe move the specific configuration from the family file to each board file, but with will not work with big families. Any ideas or comments? Thanks

As many of you know, lots of git repositories are automatically built every time there's a pull request, letting the project community know if that commit will introduce a flaw of some kind. If it's a help to Armbian, I'd like to configure a cloud-based build system that should be able to cut the "build all" time down to about 10% of what it is, and possibly to a number lower than that. Here's what I'd do. I'll use Google cloud's preemptible servers to spawn say 30 machines with the trigger being a pull request. If any of these macines dies during the build, it'll come back red. and otherwise, it will come back green and upload all of the binaries to google clou…

Hi, attached is a patch for U-Boot (should work on 2016.09-rc1 and 2016-09-rc2-dirty, will probably work on older ones as well) that makes it use the plain text file uEnv.txt instead of boot.scr, which has to be translated to a binary file first. This way changing the environment means only editing a text file, instead of editing a file, converting it to binary, and copying it over to the /boot partition on the SD. This becomes active if the U-Boot config has the option OLD_SUNXI_COMPAT disabled (in the menuconfig this is under ARM architecture -> Enable workarounds for booting old kernels). It also adds a small patch to board/sunxi/board.c to skip the setting …

Hi, I bought this relatively new WiFi card from sinovoip based on the MT7615. http://forum.banana-pi.org/t/bpi-mt7615-802-11-ac-wifi-4x4-dual-band-pcie-module-mass-production-version/10037 The kernel drivers for this are already in mainline linux (starting from 5.3 I think). Hi, I'm not exactly sure where this type of thread goes. If it doesn't go here, can someone please politely move it? Thank you very much! There seems to be a rogue file in the "/etc/sysfs.d/" directory with the file "20-gpu-governor.conf" on my system. This file is meant to tune the GPU governor to "performance", instead of the default "simple_ondemand". But I'm confused as to which package supplies this. It is not supplied by sysfsutils, so maybe it's Armbian specific? Not sure. This file is on Armbian for the Helios64. Here are the contents of the file "/etc/sysfs.d/20-gpu-governor.conf": # Set "performance" GPU…

Hello, I know this will be a controversial subject, but I often like to see what's happening in a devel repository by browsing commits. I start by looking at the commit titles (first commit message line) to approximate the interest that particular entry is to me, then if deemed interesting, I'll read the full commit message to understand what it is about, then if still interested I'll go read the code. I think this is a fairly straightforward approach to digging in a codebase or development stream, avoiding to loose time on things outside of interest scope, and allowing to focus on specific subjects. So, in order for this workflow to be doable, the commit …

Hello team, I noticed the following lines during script run: Free space: grep: | tee -a $DEST/debug/debootstrap.log: No such file or directory [ o.k. ] Ending debootstrap process and preparing cache [ jessie ] as you can see, free space is neither logged nor displayed. I found 2 occurrences in debootstrap-ng.sh, but I don't get what's wrong there...?

Hi, I've been trying to follow the instructions here https://docs.armbian.com/Developer-Guide_Using-Vagrant/ rather than using my current virtualbox setup however I fall over at the following spot: nick@Nick-desktop:~$ vagrant plugin install vagrant-disksize Installing the 'vagrant-disksize' plugin. This can take a few minutes... Bundler, the underlying system Vagrant uses to install plugins, reported an error. The error is shown below. These errors are usually caused by misconfigured plugin installations or transient network issues. The error from Bundler is: conflicting dependencies nokogiri (= 1.5.10) and nokogiri (= 1.8.1) Activated nokogiri-1.8.1 …

Now that u-boot UEFI is kind of a thing.... How will that shape armbian and the build process?

A very simple proposal: How about creating a tag in the Github repo with each Armbian release? I think it would be very little hassle, and can be very useful in many ways.

FYI, I need a DKMS module to be reloaded after I upgrade the Armbian kernel files with "dpkg -i *.deb" so the following snippet: - remove /tmp/.reboot_required - compile any header files for scripts - add my favorite frandom-dkms module gr@bpi:/armbian_kernel$ cat mod_noreboot.sh #!/bin/bash #sudo rm /tmp/.reboot_required #pushd . #for f in $(ls -d /usr/src/linux-headers-*-sunxi) #do # cd $f # sudo make scripts #done #popd sudo dpkg -i frandom-dkms_1.1-0centrych4_armhf.deb

My Cubox i4pro is running Armbian. I'm using Apticron to notify me of package updates that are available for my system. Apticron usually tells me a short summary of what has changed with a certain newer version. Somehow, the armbian-firmware never shows this information. Is it available somewhere online? I would like to be able to verify what I'm updating so I can assess if there's a risk that something breaks...

Hi, I tried to use the Legacy 3.4.113 but when it loads the kernel the Cubieboard2 shows a weird scrambeled picture on the Monitor and just shuts down. So I decided to build the kernel from source. I'm pretty new to Armbian, and the compile script is a lot of different. I built the kernel using the compile.sh script for Cubieborad2. I installed the Mainline 4.9.7 Armbian on Cubieboard2. My question is how to install the built kernel (3.x) on the existing system, as if I try to install the debs I get that I can't install over existing firmware and u-boot (even with force-install)? Thanks!

Hi all, and first of all I want pay many thanks to authors and contributors for a great work on a Armbian itself and it's builder too. You rock, guys But a few days ago I ran into a problem with creating my own image. For these purposes, I use the custom-image.sh script. My goal is to preinstall the cups into my image. So, my modified script now looks like that: Spoiler ... RELEASE=$1 LINUXFAMILY=$2 BOARD=$3 BUILD_DESKTOP=$4 pb_staff_inj() { apt-get --yes --force-yes --allow-unauthenticated --fix-missing install -f cups avahi-daemon avahi-discover } Main() { case $RELEA…

Probably the easiest and fastest way to set up an Ubuntu Xenial build environment (needed by the armbian build scripts) is using a chroot jail. This thread should be a quick copy paste "tutorial" to create your own chroot jail and on an Debian based linux installation. 1.) Install debootstrap $ sudo apt install debootstrap 2.) Chreate chroot jail using debootstrap $ sudo debootstrap --variant=buildd --arch=amd64 xenial ./system/ http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ 3.) Mount your local system into the chroot $ for f in dev dev/pts proc sys ; do sudo mount -o bind /$f ./system/$f ; done 4.) Mount resolv.conf from host system into…

When performing a build using this key (last commit, MASTER branch) I get an error. Is this a local error in my build environment, or are others observing similar behavior ? Pre-build without CLEAN_LEVEL="" passes without errors. The error occurs during a subsequent build with saving (using) already buils packages.

Hello community, i'm trying to build the image according the instructions _armbian/build_ but my build system is behind a firewall limited to http(80) and https(443). The build scripts are trying to fetch directly from git through different network ports. How can i change the way for cloning the git repositories to https? The same problem appears also for the key server, is there also a way to adapt them to https? There is a workaround by setting in file config-default.conf the options USE_MAINLINE_GOOGLE_MIRROR="yes" USE_GITHUB_UBOOT_MIRROR="yes" They only using implicit https protocol for git. The questions above are still i…

Hello, guys, I got a third-party source code for a GPU kernel module, compatible with mainline. I need to build & install it during the Armbian build procedure. I know what to do when "Full image" is selected in configuration , i.e. I can use customize-image-host.sh. Is there any good way to build it when "Kernel only" mode is selected ? Thanks
