Hello, My hardware is BananaPi and I would like to enable early KMS start. As per https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Kernel_mode_setting#Early_KMS_start , I need to add "the display driver kernel module" to initramfs. With a normal x86 PC, the kernel module to add would be 'i915', 'radeon' or 'nouveau'. But I'm a bit confused with the sunxi hardware. Which module am I supposed to add? Thanks!

This is a reply to treii28's post from 2023: To enable i2c on PH4 and PH5 pins, one would have to have to following lines in /boot/armbianEnv.txt files: Reboot and see the new devices with: Scan for all the connected i2c devices: All relevant (and some extra) overlays can be seen with the following command: To see the configuration one could disassemble the dtb binary file and search it's contents for i2c3-ph Whenever making changes it would be the best to connect a serial monitor to the physical serial pins (3 separate pins labeled with UART and GND, RX, TX) to see kernel output at b…

I recently picked up an Orange Pi Zero 3 and have been trying to figure out how to get the i2c pins working on the GPIO. The pinout shows pins 2 and 3 (229 and 228 according to the orange pi version of wiringPi) being used to i2c-3. The downloadable images seem to be hodge-podge with the orange-pi-os version based on arch linux. But their instructions appears to be based on earlier orange pi models that had an Orange Pi OS based on armbian which included a 'orangepi-config' command similar to raspi-config. There is no orangepi-config in the arch-based Opi-OS. A third party image from leeboby includes a current buster version of Raspbian but while it contains raspi-co…

I use "./compile.sh BRANCH=default BOARD=orangepilite KERNEL_ONLY=no PROGRESS_DISPLAY=plain RELEASE=xenial" to build the whole booting image for my orangepi lite, it works very good as the official prebuilt armbian image. Here, the usb otg port seems configured as peripheral mode already( g_searial module works as gadget in fact), I can use it as usb seraial well. However, I want to make it works as a usb storage, so, I though the g_mass_storage was the right module. I loaded it using following command: insmode g_mass_storage.ko file=/dev/mmcblk0p1 removable=1 then, I got kernel message like: [ 194.842091] usb open ba…

Hi im not Linux user not all, can someone point me how to enable SPI ? I try this: Enabling SPI Enable the hardware through config: sudo armbian-config switch on SPI in System>Hardware>SPI-spidev & save Update /etc/modules: sudo nano /etc/modules to include the following line: spi-dev Update /boot/armbianEnv.txt : sudo nano /boot/armbianEnv.txt to include the following: param_spidev_spi_bus=1 #origianl is 0 but the resonance measurement.py module expects 1 so easier to fix here param_spidev_max_freq=100000000 The commands to verify the SPI bus should return output like: $ ls …

I am trying to set up a Orange Pi Zero to use as a small NAT/ Bridge Device. I want to use an Android phone in USB tether mode to give its 4g connection to an interface on the opi zero then use a network bridge to join the 4g connection to the lan port, also the opi zero is gonna run a small section of code on the USB interface that changes the TTL of all packets through the interface. On my linux mint box the script looks like pkexec sysctl net.ipv4.ip_default_ttl=65 && echo 65 | pkexec tee /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_default_ttl but i am running into issues with the very first part, that is getting my phone native USB tether to be recognized as an interface in …

Hello, I would like to ask your help with the following problem. I'm able to put my Orange Pi PC Plus to suspend state using this command: echo -n mem>/sys/power/state When I wake it up using the SW4 pushbutton it resumes operation properly. I would like to automatically execute my script every time the system resumes from suspend state. I found two different methods, I've spent several hours trying them and non of them seems to be working with Orange Pi PC Plus. First method: using /lib/systemd/system-sleep Second method: using /etc/pm/sleep.d It seems my system does not execute the scripts confi…

Hello, I changed my memory card from a 8GB one to a 16GB one and I moved everything with Win32DiskImager, by reading the old one and writing to the second one. Can I expand my filesystem like on the first boot? Im running Jessie on a Orange Pi Zero. Thank you.

Hello. I remodel my Philips TV 32PFL4258T in a media center. The motherboard burned to the TV. There is no point in buying a new one. He had not worked very well before that. I installed universal scaler Z.VST.3463.A1. I bought myself Orange Pi One and installed Arbian 5.30. But when you start the browser and the video on YouTube, after 5 minutes, the promo starts to buggy and hang. The processor temperature is 55 degrees. According to the SSH, a 1% swap file is written. I think then, when viewing the memory, it eats much more and faster. Kodi also works. If you do not watch movies and programs nimble. As soon as you turn on the film everything is badly hangi…

So I've installed and I'm running watchdog for some months now on BananaPi M1. I think it reboots the board when the default gateway has some issues. And that's fine, no problem with that. The board works 24/7 and it made 14+ days uptime without problems. But things have changed and the board reboots at least few times a day (seems I have a problem with armbianmonitor -u - the board rebooted twice before it ended). And here's the problem. watchdog doesnt log anything or I'm unable to find any usefull info. And watchdog.conf: (it seems that the board went offline - maybe internet connection issues, but I have another one running that's also "l…

Hi everyone. I have an Orange Pi Zero. 1. I installed legacy kernel to my SD card (downloaded from https://www.armbian.com/orange-pi-zero/ ) 2. I made updates & upgrades. Afterwards, I downloaded WiringOP-Zero from https://github.com/xpertsavenue/WiringOP-Zero 3. Now here comes to problematic part. I checked my files as ls -aol /dev/spi* and could see spidev0.0 and spidev1.0. Then I wrote a test program for my SPI pins (MOSI-MISO-CLK), I can compile the program but whenever I try to use spidev1.0 I get this error below : Unable to open SPI device: No such file or directory …

Hi, I have a orange pi pc. I tried the ubuntu xenial image (kernel 5.3.5) from the orange pi website and the armbian 5.8 image. I don't get vdpau working. It did not work out of the box in both images. So I tried to install the libvdpau-sunxi: http://www.orangepi.org/orangepibbsen/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=878 It compiled. Then I got the error that the cedar_dev dosn't exist. Then I found out that the mainline kernel doesn't have this module. So I tried this: https://github.com/uboborov/sunxi-cedar-mainline But I don't understand what I have to do there. Is there a current armbian image that has a working vdpau or can you…

Hi. When you install RPi monitor on a board using legacy 3.4 kernel (in my case, Orange Pi Plus2e), you can notice an error message in the "Memory" section of the web interface, as well as a very weird big number of used memory. That is caused because it tries to read some value from /proc/meminfo (named "MemAvailable") that wasn't implemented in that version of the kernel (I think it was implemented in 3.14, if I remember well). So I have made a custom version of the memory module, which gets the value for used and available memory using the same algorythm as HTOP, which has been many years around being very useful. I am attaching the file "memory_legacy…

I check my current environment (armbian 22.08 with ubuntu 22.04) that I am running xorg with fbdev driver. I wonder if there is other things I can try for the hardware? On a Banana PRO with Debian Jessie I installed the lightweight desktop and all is more or less usable except the web browsing. I been using Iceweasel and Epiphany Browser (I can find Midori on the included repositories) but are completely unusable. I suppose that images are using the philosophy of "Disabled all memory reservations for GPU" Is a problem about the dedicated RAM to the graphics engine? How I can change this memory split? Thanks in advance.

Hello, I am very sorry that I have to leave the Armbian flock, but the Dietpi-Distro is so much better. It simply boots off the SD-Card on my NanoPi NeoCore and the darned Ethernet simply works; also the DTB overlay files work, so the additional I2C and UART hardware works in Dietpi. And the kernel is 6.x too ! However, the NanoPi Neocore is shipped with an outdated Armbian (using Kernel 4.x) on EMMC. What I now want is to replace the prepared EMMC Armbian distro with whatever is on my SD-Card, but this task is more difficult than I tought. What I would need is to simply copy the whole SD-Card to EMMC, but the recommended "dd if='sdcard...' of='emmc...'...." co…

Hi there, I want to migrate system on OPi PC+ from 32GB uSD card to 16GB card. System is small enough to fit on 16GB, but too large for 8GB eMMC (amazingly fast according dd). How to do it? My idea is: - copy (raw, using dd) first 8192 sectors from 32GB to 16GB, - then remove partition (32GB) and recreate it with 16GB size, format using same EXT filesystem, - copy (on another computer, or "simple" Armbian installed on eMMC) partition contents using rsync. Will it work? Will there be no issue with different UUID of new partition?

Hello, I have started on Armbian Ubuntu on a Orange Pi PC and have some difficults to follow the tiny font on the terminal emulator. In order to change the fontsize, I used the command "dpkg-reconfigure console-setup" and choosed the Terminus font with a bigger size. But no effect after reboot. Hi enthusiast, Last few year I used Armbian 5.25, which allow me to echo cpufreq into /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_***_freq to choose the overclock freq. I apologize for asking such a basic question. I have recompiled the wifi module on an Orange Pi PC+ to operate in concurrent mode so it can act in both station and AP mode at the same time, allowing it to be a wifi repeater. The problem is, this feature is lost on every kernel upgrade, requiring me to recompile the module each time I upgrade the kernel. The kernel module driver often changes slightly between kernel versions, and I have to track down and fix new bugs in the source code that prevent it from compiling when concurrent mode is enabled. I'm happy with how the wifi module performs now, but don't want to lose the ability to get needed kernel updat…

I tried to boot my brand new OrangePi PC Plus without SD card, and it boots to some Chinese OS. However, if I boot it with Armbian, it boots to Armbian. So my question is, is there some kind of "BIOS" or similar firmware preloaded on these devices? And if yes - is it possible to remove it with something else?

Hi,guys! when I build a pthon3 script with gui and GPIO contorl.I can run it when I use terminal with sudo command. But when I used "settings->session and startup" to config this script,It can't run when my device reboot (Orange Pi PC). I try to config command like: "echo 'password'|sudo -S python3 /home/kwan/OPi_PC/u_main.py" still the same. And then I tried to edit "/etc/rc.local" file and add: "echo 'password'|sudo -S python3 /home/kwan/OPi_PC/u_main.py &" still the same. The problem is when I run the other script without GPIO config and sudo command. It can run when device reboot. So,It's ther…

Hi, I would like to know if there is a way to set the display resolution to 640x480, to use with an old CRT screen from a IBM PS/1 model 2011 that I want to revive. I know about h3disp, but it only has high resolutions, and that old screen does not want to sync correctly to anything other than VGA. I use an Orange Pi One, with a HDMI to VGA adapter and Armbian 5.35, with legacy kernel 3.4.113 Thank you! -Alexandre

Hi, I am developing application that will show graphics in console mode using frame buffer access in system with Orange Pi PC board. Several Debian images I tried until now from Orange Pi downloads always set up 32bpp frame buffer. Calling 'fbset -depth 16' causes screen corruption. Changing script.bin setting (fb0_format = 5) did no change. Any suggestion?

Hi I have an ARM-based board(http://wiki.friendlyarm.com/wiki/index.php/NanoPi_M1) and use Armbian(Ubuntu-server 16.04) on it. I have a 2.2" TFT-LCD with SPI connection, and use this framebuffer driver(https://github.com/notro/fbtft) to launch it. I can setup my LCD with this command: sudo modprobe fbtft_device custom name=fb_ili9341 gpios=reset:1,dc:201,led:6 speed=16000000 rotate=90 bgr=1 And before, when I had Ubuntu desktop, I could change display by this command: FRAMEBUFFER=/dev/fb8 startx But in Ubuntu-server I get this error message: X.Org X Server 1.18.4 Release Date: 2016-07-19 X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0 Buil…

Hi I need to set static IP in eth0 and wlan0 in my OPi Zero using ARMBIAN Jessie. Googling around, I read a lot of controversial options, like edit /etc/network/interfaces and use nmtui, but, I couldn't set BOTH eth0 and wlan0 to a static IP. If I do it for eth0, wlan0 doesn't work and vice-versa. One guy said that after Debian Jessie version (https://nebulousthinking.wordpress.com/2016/02/25/setting-a-static-ip-for-raspbian-jessie-in-2016/), some things changed to set up static IP. Now, from Jessie, we need to edit /etc/ dhcpcd.conf, but, where is it ( dhcpcd.conf )? Can someone instruct me about how to set static IP, please? Sergio

Hi there, Orange Pi PC+, Armbian Stretch. What I want is to replicate current router (OpenWRT Barrier Breaker on TP-LINK MR3220 v1) on and Orange Pi. I use this router to "share" (using scp from host PC) an USB flash dongle (remote site backup). With its processor copying filer over WiFi SCP is terribly slow (1.2MB/sec). Network Manager "proposes" me to create an WiFi network, but with only NO security or only WEP. I use WPA personal. Configuration on router wlan0 as an AP (WPA), wlan0-1 as WiFi client (also WPA different SSID) with WDS enabled (to act as bridge member), eth0 as usual. All those 3 interfaces bridged together an …

Hello After spending hours of trying to create an older DEV kernel (5.1.21) here are the following steps in order that it will work. I will describle here about the 5.1.21 kernel but I think it can work for any kernel. 1. create lib.config file under build/userpatches with the following: KERNELBRANCH='branch:orange-pi-5.1' 2. And this is what create the magic: download the Armbian files that matches that distribution and replace all the files in the build directory: for example I have downloaded from here - This link is the build version from the branch of the 5.1.: https://github.com/FireflyTeam/armbian-build/tree/e…

Hey everyone, I am attempting to update my Orange Pi Zero from Armbian 22.0.2.1 to the latest 23.11 version however I am running into the issue that I am stuck on how to perform this update, I have tried it using the sudo apt dist-upgrade command and tried regular sudo apt update and upgrade commands but everytime it says there are no new updates available (also no errors), when there is clearly a new version 23.11 available here: https://www.armbian.com/orange-pi-zero/ What am I doing wrong? Is it maybe because it says unsupported userspace?

Hi, Perhaps it is documented elsewhere but I could not find a direct solution after googling few minutes. My u-boot partition was stuck at the same version on the nightly. I needed to fix the reboot issue. I've tried few things like apt upgrade or direct dpkg -i... Anyway, this is what I did on a EMMC installation (/dev/mmcblk2) after I've built and download my own version of the package: dpkg -i ./linux-u-boot-dev-orangepi3_5.86_arm64.deb cd /usr/lib/linux-u-boot-dev-orangepi3_5.86_arm64 cat sunxi-spl.bin u-boot.itb > u-boot-sunxi-with-spl.bin dd if=u-boot-sunxi-with-spl.bin of=/dev/mmcblk2 bs=1024 seek=8 reboot I'm my case I had to u…

Hello, I'm new to armbian, and I have a few questions. The image on the downloads page uses the legacy kernel (default branch), I used the desktop version of armbian 5.30. But is it possible to upgrade the kernel to the mainline version (4.11)? If so how? and are there any disadvantages? For example will hardware acceleration still be possible using mpv and so on? If it is better to stay on the legacy kernel, then I let everything as is.

I have an ADC and DAC board built for Raspberry Pi which has 2 slaves on the SPI bus, requiring ce0 and ce1. This works fine on the Raspberry pi 3, which installs devices /dev/spidev0.0 and also /dev/spidev/0.1, to access each slave. On the OPi PC I can access slave 0, but not slave 1. In /dev on the Opi there is only a single spidev device: /dev/spidev0.0 and no spidev0.1 device. I have modified the script.bin (I am using Armbian legacy OS - Armbian_5.14_Orangepipc_Debian_jessie_3.4.112_desktop) by editing the .fex (and making a new script.bin) to add a spi_cs1 = port:PC07<3><default><default><default> line.
