I'm testing different firmware versions for OrangePi 3 LTS a bit and I have to mention that version: Armbian_community_24.11.0-trunk.202_Orangepi3-lts_noble_current_6.6.44_gnome-kisak_desktop.img It has a flaw that can cause some trouble for beginners, i.e. after installing, the system automatically goes to the suspend option after 15 minutes 🙂 Disabling the suspend option completely helps, but it then prevents you from using the suspend option by clicking the button on the board 🙂 This is probably an error related to both battery and mains power supply. https://discussion.fedoraproject.org/t/gnome-suspends-after-15-minutes-of-user-inactivity-even-on-…

Hey there. I ve been using armbian since a couple of years now. Today, out of the blue, I receive a 'user is not in the sudoers file '. I currently I'm using ARMBIAN Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS 4.8.4-sunxi. Obivuously, my user WAS a sudoer, actually, it is the only user. Any ideas would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

As per the Subject, the I2C bus 0 is enabled and detected, but I don't see an addresses being returned when I try the i2cdetect -y 0 command. I have a single PCF 8574A connected with address 0x38. and have double checked the wiring. The PCF8574A did respond on the I2C bus on another SBC. Thanks John

I am using an OPi+ 2e as an OMV box. Tonight I updated to 5.38 (4.14.15 kernel). After the update, the network connection drops between the router and the OPi at random intervals. At least once in a hour, sometimes within 10 minutes. Tried restarting the device and the router, to no avail.

Hello. I have an OPi +2e, with Ubuntu 16.04 and legacy kernel 3.4.113-sun8i. I tried to install Nextcloud via a Snap package, but got this error: error: cannot perform the following tasks: - Run configure hook of "nextcloud" snap if present (run hook "configure": cannot open mount namespace of the init process (O_PATH): No such file or directory) I googled for the message, and found out that there are some bits needed in the kernel, for Snap to work (see https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/nextcloud-snap-install/2674/3 ). Has anybody got this to work? Maybe with mainline kernel?

I've tried both Armbian_5.00_Orangepi_Debian_jessie_4.4.1 and Armbian_5.00_Orangepi_Ubuntu_trusty_4.4.1_desktop (needs the Option "HWCursor" "off" in /etc/X11/xorg.conf). On both, after some minutes (hours?) of inactivity video id off and I 'cant turn it on. A restart fix the problem. Apart of the video, everything works just fine. I can login via SSH with no problem. Any clue?

After I got my OPiPC+ to finally boot without HDMI, it wouldn't boot in my shop. I originally had it in the bedroom because that's where a convenient HDMI TV was AND that's where the U-Verse router is. In the shop, it went through an HP Procurve 2626 switch but would hang early in the boot process. Logged into the switch and found that most ports were set to "100FDpx". I changed the Pi port to "Auto100" and within seconds, the Pi was booting. Yay! Most people won't have such a problem using ordinary switches. A year ago, I needed more ports in the shop and got a great deal on this one locally. I didn't need 24 ports or the feature set but it was $40.00. T…

Hello, currently I am working on my Orange pi one system (Armbian Linux orangepione 3.4.113-sun8i #10 SMP PREEMPT Thu Feb 23 19:55:00 CET 2017 armv7l armv7l armv7l GNU/Linux) to get my ILI9341-TFT display to work using the fb_ili9341 kernel module. I have read a lot of documentation and the display works (using the fb_ili9341 module) attached to my cubeitruck (also running armbian). I think that the problem is the GPIO- kernel module of the Orange PI one. These are the output messages in the syslog file after "modprobe gpio-sunxi": [ 343.417378] gpio_pin_1(7) gpio_request [ 343.417817] gpio_pin_2(8) gpio_request [ 343.4…

Hi - is there anywhere a working guide to create a Wifi Access Point with this board ? I have tried the official debian ISO from orange pi and doing so with create_ap is very easy. I'd like to use armbian instead but using the "Minimal / IOT image with Armbian Linux v6.6" (bookworm) all I get is hell: I installed network-manager and armbian-config then used the later to try the hotspot configuration but then (several freezes and reboots after) it complains that "Unit hostapd.service is masked" and when I solve that, then dnsmasq fails and I see no helpful error message. I even tried connecting to a wifi network first before trying hot…

On a new installation cant access over SSH. Same on latest Armbian 5.04 Jassie and Wheezy. If I change the parameter UsePAM to no (in /etc/ssh/sshd_config), I can login via SSH. EDIT I fount the problem is with first run scripts. On legacy it looks ok, but on vanilla these scripts are destroying SSH.

In case anyone else is considering this. I can confirm that I was able to compile Dual DHCP DNS Server on the Orange Pi Zero Plus board by using the instructions for 64 bit Linux as given in the Dual DHCP DNS Server manual (in the download). The project is hosted on Source Forge https://sourceforge.net/projects/dhcp-dns-server/ This is a very lightweight but powerful DHCP/DNS server for Windows and Linux. I currently am running a primary server on Windows and a secondary on the Orange Pi. My current OS is ARMBIAN 5.38 stable Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS 4.14.48-sunxi64. I suspect that it will work for other versions of the OS and board too. Daemonize proved to be s…

Hello, Recently I bought my first orange pi one and I downloaded the xenial desktop specifically so that I could have an xserver preinstalled to what I wanted to transform into an access point. I had realized that all realtek wifi dongles would cause a kernel crash once you try to connect to an access point with them. I had followed instructions to rebuild the orange pi with the dev packages that are found on its download page, and it worked the first time, allowing me to continue with my work. Long story short I ended up re-imaging the sd card and now I can't get the dev version to work again. It won't boot once I install the packages. I am wondering if somet…

Hallo, I use Armbian for some time now, usually I can solve all problems myself. Recently, one of my boards has gone bad (or mad?). I started using this particular board on 10/11/2016. Installed Armbian (5.20) from images available on that day. Everything went nice, no problems, pretty much no load for whole days. On 20/12/2016 something began to use 1 core of CPU. No idea what. On 23/12/2016 board stopped responding completely. I haven't accessed/used system from 20/12/2016 so I was not aware of problem. I turned it off later. I removed SD card from board and used with other OrangePi One just fine. But this board behaves strange. I re-installed Armbian and it se…

I'm trying to set up one of my Orange PI Zero to be a MPD Player and in parallel to play streams from other devices over network. The streams are provided by a Ubuntu desktop PC and and a Librelec PC. The Orange Pi Zero is running Armbian 5.38 with Kernel 4.14.18. I tried the last days two solutions: ALSA dmix plugin playing everything except network streams and Pulseaudio for nework streams Playing everything through Pulseaudio in system mode The first solution failed as the dmix plugin in ALSA has poor performance and causes regularly high CPU load resulting in broken audio playback with MPD The second solution seemed to be better s…

Hi. When you install RPi monitor on a board using legacy 3.4 kernel (in my case, Orange Pi Plus2e), you can notice an error message in the "Memory" section of the web interface, as well as a very weird big number of used memory. That is caused because it tries to read some value from /proc/meminfo (named "MemAvailable") that wasn't implemented in that version of the kernel (I think it was implemented in 3.14, if I remember well). So I have made a custom version of the memory module, which gets the value for used and available memory using the same algorythm as HTOP, which has been many years around being very useful. I am attaching the file "memory_legacy…

Hello everyone, This is my first post to this forum. Anyway this causes the software I am installing to fail, any suggestions as to how to fix …

For some reason still unknow to me, my OrangePi Lite Wifi became unreachable twice. I should have checked whether it was something more. Anyhow, temperature is an issue that everyone says about, but I do not believe it is. To determine when Orange Pi Lite Wifi becomes unreachable I wrote a Python script (nothing special, similar to many on the Internet) that posts the ARM7 temperature of Orange Pi Lite to ThingSpeak platform (owned by Matlab). If, and when my Orange Pi Lite Wifi, becomes unreachable I will know as it will stop sending posts to ThingSpeak. Besides the main interest, I do something useful as I monitor the temperature of ARM7. (the image though it shows…

I installed the experimental version of the NanoPi Neo Air distribution on my Air a month or two ago. At the time I believe Bluetooth was not working on that version. I don't see any indication that it is not working now, but it doesn't seem to be working on my install. Is Bluetooth working on the experimental kernel? If so, should I just re-install, or is it not hard to get it working on an existing install? I just installed the latest updates and rebooted, and that didn't fix it. The symptom that I'm seeing is that if I run bluetoothctl it prints a prompt, but seems to lock up.

Dear Community, I currently want to reduce the transmission power of the NanoPi Neo Air. This means that I simply want to be able to set the Wifi transmission power in 10% steps, for example. What I have already tried: Instructions according to Wiki: OpenWrt image is not flashed. No access via browser. But it doesn't matter: max. transmission power is used in AP mode. Setting as in the Wiki image "TransmitPower:auto" probably does not apply here anyway. Network Manager TUI via "sudo nmtui" has no such settings. Adjust the NVRAM files in "/lib/firmware/brcm" or "/lib/firmware/ap6212" step by step. All changes are …

While doing some testing of multiple things I decided to build 2 images, fresh/new for my nanopineo's also trying to have the resulting image as close as possible to what I have running on the nanopineo's for years since 2022 or so. That was originally Armbian Buster and I have been tweaking the installations to match other computer installations. Main thing is split the root partitions into a rootfs (Btrfs) and a bootfs (Ext4). More recently, I did more changes, such that I can run the whole image as KVM and/or systemd-nspawn container. The 1st image was adding extension 'u-boot-menu'; build ended in success, but have not tested it on HW. I saw in extlinux.c…

Hi, I yesterday built a new image for my A20-OLinuXino-MICRO board (Armbian 5.17 Jessie with kernel 4.7.3) At first boot, everything worked fine. I could manage to connect through SSH and changed root password and add new user. However, avec adding a Hard Disk (on the SATA connector) and reboot, I could not manage to connect via SSH So I tried the serial (UART) connector. After some tries and a non responding console (I could see no kernel messages at boot to I had to change the verbosity), I finally succeeded in booting with a console prompt on serial connector. Hi, I'm trying to send IR command from a IR led from an Orange Pi, i have it working fine on an Arduino, but it seems that on linux it's a bit more complicated as there are no lib that can control a GPIO with an IR transmitter, it seems that everybody is using LIRC. I see for raspberry pi this needs to be done : EDIT /etc/modules WITH : lirc_dev lirc_rpi gpio_in_pin=23 gpio_out_pin=22 the Orange PI devier module is different, so i do not know how to control it to let it know where the transmitter is. Anybody managed to get this to work ? Thx

I've got a BPi Pro with a PMP as a sort of backup box. It appears to be running find so far and I'm not running RAID of any sort on it as I've had issues with that an PMPs on other platforms. Hi! I have ARMBIAN 5.31 on my Banana Pi m1 and need some help. Early I used wheezy and mount webdav disk with davfs2 in fstab, but after I installed jessie fstab dont mount any davfs2 disk. Besides I have another problem: I use davfs2 to backup some video and photos to cloud storage throw webdav, and I have mistakes on large files (files much bigger then free space in /var/cache). Davfs2 send files in cache folder first (/var/cache/davfs2 by default) and then to webdav disk, so I have to use another disk with enough free space (sda1 in my case). When I was on wheezy I just point cache dir to sda in dafs2.config (cache_dir option) and all be OK, but i…

I'm wanting to connect a Raspberry Pi Zero to my NanoPi Duo via USB Ethernet OTG. Has anyone gotten this to work? I've been following instructions posted at different sites (here's one - https://dev.webonomic.nl/connecting-to-a-raspberry-pi-zero-with-just-an-usb-cable-i) and I can get it to work via my desktop (with Debian) and a Raspberry Pi Zero and between RPI3 and RPI0, but can't seem to get it to work between NanoPi Duo and RPI0. Of course, I don't have a desktop on the NanoPi Duo, so everything has to be done via command line.

Hi, I tried to add the mcp251x overlay for Nanopi-NEO-Plus2 (Allwinner H5) using armbian-add-overlay command but got the error below. Does anybody know why? Below, you can find the dts file. Attention, whatever you do next is at your own risk! Fixed dts overlay file for Armbian 23.02.2 (attached). 1. Now the system can fall asleep and wake up by a timer (without an external RTC, provided that it is powered) or by pressing a button - while wifi connects itself (if there is an automatic connection) and the system continues to work as if nothing had happened without unnecessary loading. 2. As a bonus, I added an indication of reading from a flash card as a red LED (this can be turned off). 3. I also activated the host on the micro-usb connector - now you can connect something else via the otg adapter as a third USB connector. To apply t…

When testing my most recent builds using the Armbian build framework I found that I was experiencing a constant load greater than 1.00. At first, I thought this is probably normal to have a load during the system boot but after waiting over 10 minutes I found that the load did not decrease. Firstly, I used HTOP but could not find a process that was heavy utilising the CPU with the relative CPU usage show as low. Next I tried using TOP which revealed a process called kworker: freezeable_power. Trying to search for the issue I did not find much until I came across this old forum post that described the same issues I was having: https://forum.armbian.com/topic/75…

Hi Friends, on Banian I was using "xset dmps force off" and "xset dpms force on" to switch display off and on as I need it. Tryed to use this commands in terminal with armbian but nothing happens. I'm using LeMakers 5" LCD RGB Display with PCAP Touch. Armbian is 5.24 jessi with desktop and 4.8.12 Kernel. Has anyone an Idea, how to turn off and on display form terminal? Yours, Martin

OrangePi PC H3 UsbTV kernel driver causes complete system freeze on Armbian OrangePi PC kernel 4.14. Did anyone observed similar issues? I already reported a bug against the USBTV repo, but not sure if this is the right place. [Update: After quick response of Federico Simoncelli from the USBTV repo, I reported this bug to the kernel bugzilla as a new bug there] On x86_64 platform it works well. Is it the bug of Armbian or USBTV?

Hi, When Armbian starts loading kernel (just after showing loading kernel), the screen just gets scattered and Cubieboard2 shuts down. The Mainline on the other hand boots without a problem. Hi, I bought an orangepi zero H5 and I try to setup armbian on sd card. I write the image with etcher but there is no screen display when I boot. I wait long time about 10mn, my card is 16Gb, but no display on my hdmi tv. I test Armbian_5.27_Orangepizeroplus2-h5_Ubuntu_xenial_dev_4.11.0 , and the nightly build Armbian_5.27.170520_Orangepizeroplus2-h5_Ubuntu_xenial_dev_4.11.1 but it is the same story: no display. I test the official Ubuntu from Orangepi there is no problem, the boot is fast and I get display on my tv. Do you have some advice ? Thanks. G*

Sometimes if your monitor is off and olimex start first and after that just monitor is on you will get "default" resolution : ~> cat /sys/class/graphics/fb0/virtual_size 1024,768 I've created a script that fix that with recompiling initramfs, adding necessary /lib/firmware/edid/1920x1080.bin file directly into it. Feel free to use, suggestions are welcome. P.S. Please add tags A20-OLinuXino-LIME2 and T2-OLinuXino-LIME2 fix_hdmi_resolution.sh

Hello all, I bought this OPZ, it was cheap and I was curious. Primarily for a yet-another-headles-server-without-wifi. I am used to different hardware and Debian since "the days You compiled Linux kernel in just 48 hours". I read quite a lot about OPZ and different OS solutions - You have quite a few weeks before You get Your parcel from China to Your mailbox in Sweden. My first SD card I bought from China, it was Kingston 16GB class 10 an all of that. Worked like charm in couple of hours then after reboot it was unreadable. I spent days in search for solution, tried to reformat it in different ways on different machines and using different OS and software combination.…

Dear All, I have used Igors Debian Wheezy Image for a long time and now and found nothing to complain about. When copying the image back with dd if=/backup.img of=/dev/sdX I will get a newly created image but I am not able to boot anymore using this card. And it is getting even worse. When interrupting the boot process and issuing the relevant boot commands (run loadkernel; run setargs; bootm 0x48000000) in uBoot directly the system is running perfectly whereas the unattended boot wi…

Hi, I'm fairly new to SBCs and Linux and try to get RS485 working on a NanoPi NEO running Armbian (Legacy 3.4.113). I build a custom shield for the NanoPi Neo with a MAX3485 taht is connected to the UART2 (TX,RX,RTS) but so far only transmission works. This is because the RTS pin which I planned to use for toggling the direction pins is always high. I tried to use ioctrl to have it been toggled automatically, but had no success so far. I'm tried to figure out whats the problem and I believe that the configuration of the UART2 does not include the RTS signal: cat /proc/tty/driver/uart |head -8 serinfo:1.0 driver revision: 0: uart:SUNXI mmio:0x01C28000 irq:…

I have ironed out my OPZ woes and have it working well now along with the Mainline Armbian image. As we may know the onboard wifi is garbage and will not get fixed, however I found a dirt cheap plug and play usb alternative on ebay (or aliexpress.com) using the common (Ralink?) mt7601u kernel driver. As long the dongle matches the photo in the listing it should have the same chipset. It has very low power consumption and at least with my wifi router gets the maximum 10mbit/sec throughput for downloads on my internet connection at a distance of 5 meters. I also added to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf .... blacklist xradio_wlan …

Attempting to connect ILI9341 LCD with XPT2046 Touch to NanoPi NEO Core2 and then migrate to NanoPi Duo2. The ILI9341 / XPT2046 peripheral board has shared SPI with a separate slave chip select for the screen and touch controllers. Starting with hardware datasheet for the H3 I see there is lots of support for different chip select implementations. This makes me think I am on good footing from a hardware perspective. What is not clear to me is how the register support for four slave chip selects translates into pin assignments. Reading through spi-sun6i.c., for example, static int sun6i_spi_transfer_one( ... ) uses SUN6I_TFR_CTL_CS_MANUA…

Hi, I am having a problem getting the graphical login to work... What I run is an ubuntu jammy image with gnome, however when I boot with my tv connected via hdmi it seems to work at first but finally I end up with a screen just displaying the above error. armbianEnv.txt contains the line "disp_mode=1920x1080p60" (a mode my TV supports), yet when the device starts it uses the 4k mode - could this be part of the problem? So how could I get this working and how would I ensure that my device only uses fhd resolution, even though my tv can also do 4k? Many thanks!

Hello! It's about installing Armbian on OPi+ 2E without a reliable sdcard and with no proper card reader - U-Boot goes to sdcard, Armbian image goes to USB dong then installed to eMMC. I did this once but can't remember what device was the sdcard in Android, if anybody knows it would be great to share. It mounts as /dev/block/vold/179:1, but writing (dd) u-boot.bin to 179:0 or 179 doesn't result in a bootable sdcard (the OPi boots from eMMC, and as far as I remember if it has bootable sdcard inserted it should boot from it no matter what is on the eMMC). There was also an issue with the nand-sata-install - I had to remove some lines as it wouldn't allow writing …
