Hi everybody, I'm new to this forum so first let me say a big THANK YOU to the armbian team for the excellent work. I've been playing around with my orange pi pc for a while now, not really wanting to spend much time on it (family, children, work, you know the story) or dig into details, and did not find any PnP distro that was 100% satisfactory (always something missing, unstable,...), until I gave a try to armbian. Apart from a weird kernel panic at the end of every shutdown, everytying is running smoothly so far. I'm now in the process of installing OctoPrint to drive my 3D printer and I am facing a problem with python virtualenv. Basically trying to execute…

Hello, I don't know if this is board related or probably armbian related... anyway. In my old banana pi (4.19.13-sunxi) htop (version 2.1.1) is like this: While on every other linux PC, server or whatever I have it looks like: The small and stupid difference is in those blue "tree view" lines (under the Command column), which I don't really like nor understand. Is there a way to set those lines as they normally should be? (and why was it set???) Thanks

I have the same problem like other users here, the 1-wire doesn't run correctly, I added 1-wire to armbianEnv.txt, 1-wire drivers are loaded, but I cannot access the data of DS18B20 attached to PA06. Hello, First of all thanks for the very nice dist, it's clean and optimized. Unfortunately the Banana Pi is unbootable after having done the following: Migrate the root fs to my USB drive and make it bootable with the nand-sata-install script Change the hostname (modify /etc/hosts, modify /etc/hostname, run /etc/init.d/hostname.sh, reboot) run apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade, reboot Each time the Banana Pi could not boot anymore, and that happened with both Jessie and Wheezie images. I can't get any screenshots of the boot screen because it's a headless server. Any ideas? mk16

First, I am generally not a Linux person, so pardon any silly questions here. I am working on an OrangePi Plus 2E with (recent) Armbian. It has been working fine with the Jessie Desktop for several weeks now. I generally am running it 'headless', so I'm not sure exactly when, but sometime between last Saturday and yesterday I seem to have lost the desktop (and autologin, ...). I see a number of messages on the console at boot, including 'Stopped User Manager for user ID 1000' and then removing 'slice' for this user. The system is operating fine, just not the UI. So, how do I get autologin and desktop back (other than a new install)? What might have caused …

Hi, on my BananaPI I installed this image: Armbian_5.10_Bananapipro_Debian_jessie_4.5.2_desktop.raw I followed these instructions: https://searchathing.com/?p=250 to move / to SATA (or USB) and crypt it with LUKS. After all, cat /proc/cpuinfo says, there is only 1 CPU-core. How can I activate the 2nd core? Thanks for your help

I just ordered a couple of Orange Pi Zero systems to use in small IoT projects. Reading the forum I see the wireless for Orange Pi Zero might have issues. But some of the posts wanted to use it as an AP. That's not my case, I'll test them when they get here, but just how bad is it? I will not have a heavy load, but I would like something stable. When push comes to shove should I plan on using an Ethernet cable rather than the wifi?

Hello -- bringing in conversation from https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/5726#issuecomment-1817668480 as requested. @viraniac -- I've attached the dmesg output from a fresh flash of the quadra SD image -- which is just armbian checked out at `90c05ba` with this patch applied: https://www.inovato.net/build/quadra.patch . Build instructions from the founder are at https://forum.inovato.com/post/building-armbian-from-source-12449428?pid=1333459893 Curiously the dmesg output almost looks truncated to me -- doesn't start with `Booting Linux on physical`, and I see a few xradio message but no results for 819. I've rebooted and get similar output wit…

I have Armbian_4.5_Cubietruck_Debian_jessie_3.4.109 running from NAND on my Cubietruck. Boot, reboot and shutdown are very slow. I assume that this is caused by this bug: As I do not need WIFI and Bluetooth ... Is it possible to remove WIFI and Bluetooth completely? How? Would that help with the mentioned problem? Is it ensured, that the WIFI and Bluetooth hardware modules are shutoff / power save when disabled? P.S.: great work Igor

Banana Pi M1+ There is a very strange issue using SPDIF and/or I2S output. ( mpd, alsa, Armiban 4.4, kernel: 3.4.109-banana ) When starting play a new audio track, the left and right channel random swapping. Upgrading Alsa mpd does not helps. It looks this is known, a kernel level problem. for example: http://mailman.alsa-project.org/pipermail/alsa-devel/2011-February/037038.html Any suggestion how can I solve this issue? Thanks in advance!

Hi, I have an Orange Pi Zero (256MB) board. I downloaded the prebuilt image named as "Armbian_5.25_Orangepizero_Ubuntu_xenial_default_3.4.113.img" and used it without a problem. Then I cloned the project from github and cross compiled on an Ubuntu 16.04 computer (4.4.0-31-generic kernel) by using the "compile.sh" script. It created an image named as "Armbian_5.27_Orangepizero_Ubuntu_xenial_default_3.4.113.img". But this image halts after printing "ion_reserve_common: ion reserve: [0x47e00000, 0x50000000]!". You may find the log at the end of this post. I compiled the same project (5.27) with development kernel. It created the image name…

Hi guys, Great work you are doing here, giving a second source for all kinds of fruits :-). My question: I like to have a "non desktop, no gui" = headless server with an armbian kernel >= 4.1 for the OrangePiOne to free up my expensive/more universal RPi2 for other tasks. I need a linux kernel >= 4.1, so it recognizes my DVB-C (T230) and DVB-S2 (S960/TT4600) that work with RPi2 as a headless TvHeadEnd SAT>IP server. TvHeadEnd itself works fine on your armbian kernel 3.4.110, but USB cards need a higher kernel level. I succeeded to compile myself with your tools and good explanation, got output, but the image does not startup, no video, no lights…

I am attempting to boot my BPI-M2U. It will start the boot, but it does not get to the login prompt. Instead, it resets and starts the boot process over. I am using a 3A Power Supply rated for Pi's. I've tested with other power supplies. One of the BPI images does boot and run. The SD card is untested but works for the other OS. In case it was the SD card, I flashed the Armbian image to the eMMC and attempted to boot off that. I am using the Armbian_23.05.0-trunk_Bananapim2ultra_bookworm_current_6.1.24 image. While the exact spot it dies might change by a few lines, the following is about where it gets. I can build Armbian images f…

I have an Orange Pi One Plus with the H6 chip in it and I'm quite happy with how well it's supported by Armbian. I haven't really had any problems with it. I do have one question, though. I'm using armbianmonitor to "-m" monitor the machine and I notice that the temps are always pretty hot. Even at idle (480MHz) it still shows 72C. That seems higher than I would have expected. Is this normal, expected behavior? I understand that the SoC thermal monitoring code in the kernel is pretty new and therefore might not be perfect, yet. So, I thought I'd ask. Because it may just be my board that's off. Does anyone know if this is normal? Info: …

Hello I have an Orangepi One which fails after running for a certain time. In the failed "state" pinging it still works, but SSH connections to the Orangepi or from the Orangepi to the Server via Autossh won't work any more. A PHP application running on it is still working. It looks like the issue is that it winds back the time to something ridiculous. Hard reset with pulling Power fixes this for again a certain time till it happens again. I wrote a script which runs every Minute via Cronjob and logs the current time to a file. Before the rewind already something weird is happening. The cronjob is executed twice on 04.40. I have no idea what is hap…

Hello. For some reason, UART1 does not work for transmission, only for reception. The transmitter pin itself is definitely working, I checked by switching this pin to output mode, and then switching it to a high/low logical level, everything works properly, the level on the Pin changes. How I check the UART itself: I installed picocom, shorted the TX and RX pins, and I’m trying to see what I’m sending. For UART2 this method works as it should, but UART1 only works for reception. I realized this when I opened the TX and RX, and was able to receive incoming data sent through the USB-UART converter.

Hello all. Okay: I am a total newbie to Orange Pi. I apologize upfront for any and all obvious self inflicted mistakes that you all spot. AGAIN: total newbie to the Orange Pi world. Hey everyone, First off, I don't use Linux often so please bear with me if I miss out on obvious things. I have a few Orange Pi Lite boards, and after booting up Armbian 5.14 I was excited to give the Wifi a try after only having ethernet on my Orange Pi One boards. My OPi Lite sees my network just fine, but when I put in my credentials and go to connect to it, it fails returning "Bad Password". For what it's worth, I've checked the password probably 25+ times, I promise it's right. The wifi WILL connect to open networks, however. Is there some obvious solution that I'm missing here? Any help or direction would be appreciated. Thanks!

After i've upgraded to 5.00, and upgraded the legacy kernel to vanilla (mostly for hardware crypto), i've noticed strange errors: blocky video play from dlna, and from samba too. So i did some test, copied few files on my cubieboard2, and compared the sha hashes of both version, and sometimes the cb2 version is changed, sometimes not. Also i see that a lot of synced files became different on cb2. Is there a way to do some in memory tests to verify how the hw crpyto works? I would like to remove "everything" from the installation, which I don’t need, with the goal to minimize the footprint. I installed tasksel and its show a lot of packages on disk... so my question is what can be removed to keep a basic ubuntu server without a desktop interface and with some most used functions and files. I tried to remove some of them, like… ubuntustudio-videoubuntustudio-photography ubuntustudio-graphics mail-server ubuntu-gnome-desktop ... I can imagine to remove all CD installation and images as well... …but my problem is that if I for example remove “ubuntu-gnome-desktopâ€, the OPI Zero is not answering on ssh request any more. So, for me…

Device: Orange Pi +2e. Builds 20.20, 20.05, 20.08 The Armbian Boot Logo is shown only when we boot from SD Card. Do nand-sata-install to eMMC and boot from eMMC, the logo disappears. Could this be a timing issue as it boots faster on eMMC? I do not see any flicker or flash during u-boot. --Rajesh

Hi, I'm trying to make my opi one act as a keyboard. I've found that I need to activate g_hid module, but when I trying to execute: modprobe g_hid it says: modprobe: FATAL: Module g_hid not found. Also, g_ether, g_mass_storage, g_multi, g_ptinter and g_serial modules are available. So, what should I do and maybe anyone can provide me an example how to send a keystroke to my pc? Thanks.

Hey there,I am having trouble with SPI on my Banana Pro. I am trying to access the SPI interface via WiringPI (the Lemaker Banana Pro version). But whenever I try to access it, it tells me: Unable to open SPI device: No such file or directory The message is correct, as there are no /dev/spi* files present. The question is: How do I get them?(according to http://linux-sunxi.org/Linux_mainlining_effort#Status_Matrix it should be available since 3.15)For the 3.4.x, one had to load modules (spidev, etc.) but this doesn't seem to work for 4.9.x. There is a 'spidev' module which loads fine (according to lsmod) but with no recognizable…

Hi. I have made a system with O Pi Lite and Armbian to automate an aquarium from where to control the light, the bubbles and with a webcam I can see the system through the web, everything automated from Cron. From a web page I can turn on and off the lights and bubbles from web buttons. Everything is fine. The problem arises when I want to put some phisical buttons for 3 things: turn off the system, change the state of light and bubbles. I have used a code in Python and the PYA20 library. This is the code. It works very well, but when I start it with the system, the program stop working soon and the buttons stop to work. #!/usr/bin/env python from pyA20.gpio…

Hi, Firstly, congratulations for your amazing work… it's impressive. I have a question regarding the SD image for A10 Lime (Linux 4.x)… Can I enable a raw serial device on /dev/ttyS1 which will use the uart0 of the FEX file? If I understand the FEX documentation, the FEX is no longer used on this kind of image, in favor of DTB files. So, how can I manage to modify the DTB file in order to customize my uart settings ? And, finally, how can I obtain a raw serial device on /dev/ttyS1 which will use it ? Regards, Anthony.

I did manage to use the rmbian_5.27_Orangepizeroplus2-h5_Debian_jessie_dev_4.11.0.img.xz image and things boot fine. I also get pretty console on hdmi. But no network, and I don't have a way to get the keyboard on. Any suggestions on what kind of an adapter I need to get power AND usb keyboard to the thing (since there are no extra ports on it)? Or is it serial? Good recommendation on proper 'converter". I did modify the initial armbian_first_boot to enable wifi with proper ssid / password, and even enabled static, but no dice. Thomas

Hello, I'm running a Cubietruck with legacy kernel (3.4.113) since a long time. The use of the legacy kernel is mainly due to the fact that I'm booting from onboard NAND and this was not supported by the mainline kernel for a long time. Meanwhile Armbian's mainline kernel became Stretch in its server flavor and I'm thinking about migrating. However I'm suspicious this will still break NAND boot, despite the fact that the documentation claims plus "missing NAND support" is not listed under "known issues" for the Cubietruck. Can anyone confirm or deny that mainline kernel meanwhile does/does not support booting from NAND on Cubietruck? And if…

Hello, I have't used my old Cubietruck for years but would like to use it again in a project. There is console display just fine through HDMI, but not graphical display. There seems to be some trouble before as in this discussion: I downloaded this image: https://github.com/IGNNE/cubietruck-armbian-unofficial/releases/ and it seems to work. But when it updates itself, the graphics is gone again. So - is there some old dr…

OS downloaded from here: http://www.armbian.com/orange-pi-pc/ It has emmc I can't even make some of the things work on android.??

Hello all guys, I tested my orange pi one and it is free from the overvoltage "defect" related to the CPU voltage regulator. The multimeter reports the expected 1.1 and 1.3 voltages. Two days ago I upgraded the kernel to 25.5.1 (6.12.30-current-sunxi) from 25.2.3 (6.12.20-current-sunxi). Since then I have no longer been able to play a certain title (FLAC file) in mocp. Symptoms: dmesg starts showing kernel trace output at 1:43 of the song mocp finally stalls at 1:52 and it's impossible to interact with it from that point on Is there anyone here who would be able to provide pointers on how to debug this? I am a developer and I have done some work with Yocto/OE before and wouldn't be afraid to get at this with a debugger. Since it's nice…

Hello everyone, I encountered an issue while using SPI with my Orange Pi 3 LTS, and now I'm going to share some solutions. Perhaps the Armbian Team can assist me in resolving the final problem. These tests were conducted on Armbian 23.02.2 Bullseye with Linux 5.15.93-sunxi64. The initial step I took to ensure the appearance of `spidev` on the Orange Pi 3 LTS was to include these configurations in `/boot/armbianEnv.txt`. overlays=spi-spidev1 param_spidev_spi_bus=0 param_spidev_spi_cs=0 Note: If `spi-spidev` and `spi-spidev1` are added together, it will not work, and the `spidev` will not appear when using the `ls /dev/sp*` command. …

Hi, has anyone been able to use the BPi 7 inch LCD (S070WV20-CT16) with Banana Pi M1+? Hello all I want to control some GPIO pins on my NanoPi Neo (H3) board and installed WiringNP. Executing commands results in the error piBoardRev: Unable to determine board revision from /proc/cpuinfo I've traced the source of the error down to this line, where WiringNP tries to open /sys/class/sunxi_info/sys_info to determine which board it is running on. This path is not present in my Armbian os. I'm using 4.11.12-sun8i #20 SMP armv7l armv7l armv7l GNU/Linux Am I missing something here? Or are there alternatives to using WiringNP?

Hi Folks, I installed armbian Jessie with Desktop and Kernel 4.6.3 on my Banana Pi. I'm glad to see, that most of modules I need are installed and working properly. Good job, thanks! Hi ! I am using Armbian_5.65_Orangepilite_Debian_stretch_next_4.14.78armbian deb stretch image on orange pi lite. Its working great for the most part, but it misses the starting portion of the audio. I have installed snips voice assistant on it and for some reason the speaker does not produce the confirmation sound output on hotword detection. But plays rest of the sound outputs after that for another 5 seconds or so. Missing the confirmation sound from a smart speaker is really annoying. Is that a bug? Is there a possible workaround? Is any way this can be solved properly? Please point me in the right direction

Hello, I have problems with the armbian distributions on my orange pi zero 3 because I can't even use chatgpt to activate the sound card on the expansion board that comes as an accessory for the orange pi zero 3. I'm referring to the board that has two USB outputs and an audio jack port that I think is also a video port, but I can't get sound out of that port, only sound comes out of the HDMI port. It's a real mystery since there's no problem with the other distributions, but with armbian I can't get that audio output port to work. If you can help me please, I've tried a number of things and I can't get it to work.

Hi! I love this Linux distribution, I have tried some months ago and had worked very well. Now, I want install armbian in a pdduino3b, I go to "downloads" select pcduino3, and I have two options: Xenial_server_vanilla and Xenial_server_legacy. I want hardware acceleration and most options of drivers and compatibility possible, so, I go for legacy option. But I realize that the two images have not a desktop environment, this is true? If yes, where can I download the full newer armbian version with legacy kernel and desktop ready? I try install xcfe over legacy image, but I have found for errors like "screen not found" and others... Regards.

For the second time within about 4 weeks my cubietruck is not coming up anymore after a sudo apt upgrade and reboot. Is there something systematically breaking? I think it is the initramfstools that is breaking it? Now, I have no radio, alarm-clock and I cannot turn on my coffee-maker over the internet and I will probably have to spend a day etching a new SD card etc. I bought a new SD card last time this happened since I figured ist would be related to that, now I think it is a software thing. I use the cubietruck headless over ssh and have no real video output, just audio. I also need to do some cumbersome operations t…

Hi I discovered that there are two versions of M64 bananapi. The first version on which all the kernel numbers go. The second version, which is not the kernel 4.19.x - kernel panic. The system will not run. I can not give you memory numbers because I covered it with sticking the heat sink. The first version is a model bought in 2016. The second version is the this year's model. The situation is similar to that of Nano pi T3 +

Sorry for the minimal info provided in this report but, due to the possible data corruption which the bug may cause, I'm not willing to reproduce this again on my board which runs in production. One week ago, I experienced data corruption happening on the nanopi. Actually it was some time (more than one month) that I saw the board acting weird: - long ssh transfers would sometime brake (via https://github.com/dooblem/bsync) - `apt update` reported invalid keys for the official armbian repository - on rare occasions, the board would freeze (not respond to ssh, requiring manual power cycle) After experiencing data corruption, I …
