Hello, I need your help to solve my problem with the eMMC internal disk of my TV box. This is the VONTAR X96 mini model, purchased in June 2019, with 2GB of RAM and 16GB disk. The processor is an Amlogic S905W. I transformed this Android TV box into a Linux server several years ago and I was satisfied with it. A few months ago, during a reinstallation, the internal 16GB eMMC disk became READ-ONLY! It is still visible and accessible (mmcblk1) but I can no longer update it! I tried to transfer the contents of the SD-Card to the internal eMMC storage, but no update is done. Thank you in advance for your help ! Ricardo PS : 1) I used these settings during installa…

Hi, I plan on installing Armbian_20.10_Arm-64_bullseye_current_5.9.0.img.xz on my rather old wetek play 2, to be used as a home server. I just want to confirm, I have been trolling through the forums that this version appears to be the latest one that can be installed? Am I also correct in assuming debian is more stable than ubuntu? Since majority of my containers are networking related, this is what I value most above, bluetooth wifi etc...

Hi everyone!!! After a some time away, I decided to deep in an installation of ARMBIAN on S912. I follow the steps described above, complemented with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4qzfOOPbYA and https://i12bretro.github.io/tutorials/0094.html Some cares must checked (and minors workaround) to boot from micro-SD, but at the end, everything runs fine. My box is a Diamond A9 (RUPA) with 2G/16G (RAM and ROM) The sound only by the HDMI and the AV/SPDIF does not work neither. The final result was reasonable due the speed, my expectations were bigger. But everything is runs stable but slow. Thanks for all, specially, balbes and steeman …

I need to use this UART on an S905 system installed with Armbian 22 and Kernel 5.15 through Python. I am able to do this by changing the permissions of /dev/ttyAML0 from 640 to 660. However I need to avoid having to issue the CHMOD command each time I power up. I have written a service in systemd to do this automatically at startup but the CHMOD command has no effect on the port permissions or else they are being overwritten later on during startup. The service is functioning correctly since CHMOD on another dummy file alters permissions as expected. Any suggestions please?

Hi, this is my first post so please be generous. After much experimentation I have managed to to set up Armbian on an old Zidoo x5 box. I may add that neither the .zip or the toothpick method worked for me but finally got the booting sequence to run the S905 Autoscript by altering some variables using the setenv command through the serial interface. I have installed several OS's and finally settled on the 20.10 focal 5.9.0 desktop image. Most things work but I am getting problems with setting up an Access Point through the armbian-config program. I have left the default settings as proposed and was able to "see" the hot spot…

I've created a new Linux image for the MyGica ATV 495X TV box, based on a Focal CLI image from ophub's github repo. The image includes a 5.10 kernel with HDMI, SD, eMMC, USB, Sound (HDMI+AV), Ethernet and WIFI all working. The image supports installing to the internal eMMC with or with the vendor u-boot. It is available at https://github.com/deonvdw/atvlinux/releases/tag/ATV495X-v1.00.

Hi. I apologize if this is in the wrong section, I'm new to the forum. I'm trying to run Armbian on the Jadoo 4, which is a rebranded MyGica/Geniatech ATV 585 Android TV box. Hello everyone, I read a lot of threads regarding my problem but couldn't find the solution. Could someone kindly help me? I have a TVbox with S905x and Android installed, I would like to install armbian, I downloaded the ISO, renamed the u-boot file for S905x to u-boot.ext and modified the file "/extlinux/extlinux.conf" leaving only the line without comment with S905x. When I do "update" from Android it makes me choose a .zip file, copy something and then reboot. Unfortunately, however, the system restarts with Android as if nothing had happened. What am I wrong? Thank you very much.

Hi all, I've loaded Armbian 20.10 Arm_64 Bullseye 5.9.0 image on a X96(S912). No issues while loading the system, a prompt for login is presented, but it does not recognize any keyboard that I plugin. Tryed out via ssh but isn't possible to ping the server, so I believe ssh connection might not be automatically set. Maybe some one have an idea on how I can solve this issues. Thanks in advance.

I flash the armbian Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS into the box (2GB/16GB S905X X96 mini) internal emmc long time ago and it is still working without problem. Any instruction how to do it in my scenario (armbian already running from internal emmc, not sdcard). Thank you

Every time I boot Armbian on my tv box, there is always a 5 second prompt on startup similar to entering startup options on Windows. I'm not entirely sure what it's for, but i'm assuming it's a barebones u-boot command line. The problem is, I don't need it, and it adds a significant amount of time when booting. Does anyone know how to remove it entirely and to boot directly into the kernel? I'm using a Tanix 3 mini with Armbian 5.9.0

I have an M8 S802 box that I am trying to install armbian to. I am using 5,44 Ubuntu bionib 3.10.108 server. I can boot with the SD card, but when I try to install to emmc I get a message saying cannot parse config file '/etc/fw_env.config' invalid argument at the end of install. After this, the TV box will only boot from SD. I tried copying the fw_env.config file from my backup of android, but I still get the same results.

Hello. I'm a newbie, so bear with me here. I managed to install Armbian on a TV box with the Amlogic s905w CPU. Everything seems to be working fine except for the wi-fi, which is expected based on what I've read on the forum. I had a USB wi-fi adapter with me so I tried to use that as an alternative but it doesn't seem to work no matter what I do. My question is very straightforward actually, and probably a dumb one but it doesn't hurt to ask. When we say wi-fi doesn't work on Amlogic CPUs, we're talking about Armbian recognizing their built-in wifi card, right? If I use something external to that it should be ab…

Hello guys! I have android TV box called netup with PCB called S905X inside of box. First of all i installed TWRP. Then i tried to use manuals, but my PCB doesn't have reset button. And it wrote this zip to boot, and now i have libreelec and it works. But i need armbian (i would like to have small server for IOT, not Kodi).…

I have successfully booted armbian 20.10 bullseye 5.9.0 on a tx 3 mini powered by an S905W chip. I am trying to control the diplay on the front and while searching for answers came across this openvfd library for the tx 3 mini. I've followed the instructions but to no avail have succeeded in controlling the display. One key difference i've noticed, is that the controller on the board is an FD6551 model, as opposed to the standard FD628. After some reading I came to the conclusion that FD655 is supported, so i'm under the impression that this library should support my board (picture below). When following the install instructions from the openvfd library, I m…

Hello All, I apologize if this subject is already located somewhere in the forum's threads, I spent some time looking and I could not find it. I am seriously an amateur with Armbian. I have an x96 mini, first generation possibly, 1GB RAM 8GB Storage. I wanted to use it to create a linux process that would be running 24/7. The focal image that was release a while ago and was linked on one of the yandex drives works fine, from usb. When I install using install-aml.sh and then try to boot it, it attempts to look for a network, at least that is what appears to do. I don't want this unit accessing the network just yet. Is there a…

Hi, I have a board (x301) that contains a T962X2 (which is supposed to be like a 905x2 but for smart TVs?) I am trying to boot armbian, but I cannot manage to make anything load the DTB I obtained (tl1-t962x2-x301-2g.dtb) thru dumping the android boot partition. Since a t962x2 is supposedly equivalent to a s905x2 I thought I'd use a s905x2 uboot.ext and change the DTB, but even if I change it the old one is used... How do I make u-boot load this dtb? I tried with both balbes150 build and a build from here But the u-boot logs keep referring to the previous device. (I changed the fields in extlinux.conf - FDT and the…

Hello there I've installed Armbian on my MXQ Pro 4K 5G TV box's eMMC, but now I want to upgrade to a better external storage. I've flashed Armbian on it and done the usual configuration but I always boot into the eMMC's Armbian. I've read that one way to fix this is to restore Android with the Amlogic USB Tool, but I found that my board has no reset button, not even hidden inside the jacks. So I'm afraid I won't be able to enter recovery mode to flash the default Android image. Here are some pics of the board: Is there any other way to force boot from USB, or force recovery mode? Thank you! I've found a solution…

Hi, I've got some kind of development TV box based on S905X, but I don't see any push button on whole board except power on button. There is no separate button or even AV socket. I looked everywhere and no idea. Do you guys have any other way to run multiboot on this type of board? Just to let you know, I was able to run Armbian on other devices but with some annoying Mediatek WiFi chipset which doesn't have proper drivers. You can see some picture below for probematic board. https://ibb.co/2K55RTk

My tv box: x96max 2+. Cpu: s905x3. Gpu: mali g31. I found the suitable Armbian here: https://forum.armbian.com/topic/12162-single-armbian-image-for-rk-aml-aw-aarch64-armv8 I installed the Armbian_20.10_Arm-64_focal_current_5.9.0_desktop.img to tv box. It works. But the picture quality is not good enough and hardware decoding is not used when playing video. The panfrost driver is used for mali g31. I would like to try some other driver. Dear all, I own a 4G/64G H96 MAX X3, and I have tried using the pre-compiled Armbian_20.07_Arm-64_focal_current_5.7.8_desktop.img multiplatform Armbian Focal image together with the DTB by @root-stas with very good success (it seemed to work quite well in my usage, I noticed some instability in the Chromium browser, I'm aware the graphics support was not yet ready). I tried the new 2020.10, so far without GUI and I see that it boots correctly, giving me a terminal on the UART terminals I soldered on the PCB (I kept the wires tidy, and hope those pads last). I have some experience with building a Linux kernel, creating a simple kernel module, and some mar…

Can someone please help me install Linux on my Ninkbox? I have tried various S905X3 images I can find on the net and burned to an SD card but cannot get any of them to boot. I need explicit instructions and a working image for my Ninkbox N8 plus. The image that seemingly works with my unit has a dead link from all the resources on the web so I cannot find this image to download. If anyone can help me and point me in the right direction I would be very grateful. I am particularly interested in running any distro with a good package manger like Debian / Ubuntu.

Hi. Running buster on Amlogic 912 arm box T95Z Max. As mentioned, the ethernet doesnt work but wifi does. Tried all the dtbs, no dice. Also, wanted to transfer the OS from SD to EMMC but neither does armbian-config have the boot option nor does nand-sata-install work. It says unrecognised command. Have absolutely no clue where to go from here. Any help appreciated.

Hi Everyone I have one Matricom G-Box Android with Lollipop 5.1.1. But, they discontinued an Android for this box. I have an ASUS RT-AC57U router and a USB drive is connected to it. I would like to use my X96 MINI to copy some files from this drive. I turned on SAMBA (in armbian config) in the ARMBIAN settings. In addition, I also tried the commands: smbclient //192.168.1.1/folder/ --user user% pass sudo mount -t cifs -o username = user, password = pass //192.168.1.1/folder/ / media / share / open 'smb: /…

Hello, I'm new to ARMBIAN, a very poor linux user, but I think I can handle myself. I have a X96 Max Plus android TVBox, and I want to put it on a remote place with home assistant and be able to access it with teamviewer. I've managed to make all this. The thing is I can only access the box shell, so I cannot open a web browser to use HA directly on this box. (but I can access from other device on network without issues). So I thought of installing a desktop platform on armbian that there I can install a browser, so I'm then able to access the place router if needed and also home assistant web interface. I've manage to install a desk…

Hi everyone, long term lurker to this site, however I see a whole trend in S905X Android TV boxes with sound issues. As far as I understand the SPDIF and AV ports are not supported with Armbian, however, HDMI Audio is I think. My box Rupa Pyramid A5x with the Amlogic S905X CPU boots great, followed the guides to the letter. Graphics are great, performance is as expected, 4K video is a little struggle sometimes, I suspect this is Firefox though, I actually use this same box for many years as a headless Plex/Docker server and it was amazing for this! I mean really really good. 4/5/6 steams at the same time to TVs, iPads, phones and then some more!. The issue I a…

I got couple of Amlogic S905 and S905x boxes. And i think i've used at least a 7-8 hours to see if i can get these to work again. I tried to use the lastest images with S905 boxes, and it is has been a real hassle to get it working. Some times i had to hook up an USB disk in addition to get it to boot the rootfs. And when i finally get into the OS, the network won't work. Both the built in Ethernet port and an USB Ethernet adapter. Both can detect a link, but unable to to receive IP from DHCP nor is it possible when manually assigned to get it to ping the GW. Is support for such devices by @balbes150still something that he still does?

Hi All, This is my first post. First of all let me thanks all the ones are hard working on this project. I have installed Armbian Buster on my Bqeel Y4 Max (S905x2) and I have managed to fix some little issues although the wired connection still not work. However, at the moment I'm trying to understand why Armbian sees only 2GB of RAM instead of 4GB. I have search google and the forum and, if I'm not wrong, the issue is in the boot file. I noticed someone has fixed it by installing the latest Ubuntu image, but I'm wondering if would be possible to get the 4GB without re-installing everything. I have inc…

Hi there, I was a happy user of armbian balbe150's build and wanted to update to the latest one as i was on a very early kernel. I tried to push it on my box freshly factored by default usb burning tool and android img from mecool. Install SD as usual with the settings according to the first post of balbe thread (it changed with the u boot) but after installing on emmc i'm stuck at the u boot and don't know why as it was working correctly on previous builds. @balbes150The original topic. I just use Armbian_20.10_Arm-64_buster_current_5.9.0.img.xz and find out that I cannot boot from USB anymore after installing the Armbian into EMMC. My device is phicomm-n1, and my steps were: 1. Edit /extlinux/extlinux.conf 2. Rename u-boot-s905x-s912 to u-boot.ext 3. ./install-aml.sh Now the EMMC is at the highest priority. However, the USB was always the highest when using previously published images such as Armbian_20.06.0_Arm-64_buster_current_5.7.2_20200619.img.xz What could I do to make it boot from USB first? Thank you.
