Hi Guys, I am looking for latest Armbian image which works for Beelink GT1 Ultimate 3/32GB (S/N = G912) Amlogic S912 TV box. My requirement is only wired network to be working and that Armbian image must have kernel headers. The only old image that work is Armbian_5.37_S9xxx_Ubuntu_xenial_3.14.29_mate_20171226.img but missing kernel headers & not able to find kernel headers that matches kernel in the image. I tried Armbian_20.10_Arm-64_focal_current_5.9.0_desktop.img with 3 different dtb files as follows: dtb file: /dtb/amlogic/meson-gxm-q200.dtb dtb file: /dtb/amlogic/meson-gxm-gt1-ultimate.dtb dt…

Hi! I'm new to armbian and just installed it on my KI PRO , AmLogic s905d . I've compiled my own version using the last build . Use the image to generic tvb for s905 with debian 11. to configure the boot I use the KII PRO dtb : /boot/extlinux/extlinux.conf The box is running very well , however I have two issue with it. One of them is with eth0 doesn't recognize the cable connected . I saw the answer here about @mrv issue and found no solution until now. I'm not sure where I can try any other module to test my ethernet card... Generated my armbianmonitor : https://paste.armbian…

I use the x96 air 2g_100m (s905x3) version. I used Armbian for amlogic(bulls_eye, xfce) boxes as specified in the tutorial here. I tried with many dtbs, (it even had one named x96 air) all of the didn't work. So I tried the u-boot.ext file from this Manjaro for Arm tutorial. (The link for the archive). This combined with 'meson-sm1-x96-air.dtb' file worked great and I was able to boot from SD card without any hiccups. And for the first time, the onboard wifi was working flawlessly. I could only get it to work with Coreelec before. With this, I decided to write it to emmc . I used the 'install-aml.sh' to do this and it completed successfully. But when I rebooted from em…

Hi all, I just managed to install Armbian to my Minix Neo U1 on sd card. I read the faq and found that installing on eMMC is better than on sd card because eMMC is faster and more durable. Now I'm curious that if I'm booting from eMMC: 1. How can I boot from sd card again? Just in case something's wrong with the eMMC etc. 2. Can I still use a blank sd card for storage? Or there shouldn't be an sd card attached because it will try to boot from sd card? Thank you

I have a X96 air P1 TV box,I burn Armbian_20.10_Arm-64_focal_current_5.9.0_desktop.img to SD card and rename u-boot-s905x2-s922 to u-boot.ext it boot successful (use meson-sm1-sei610.dtb),when I was run /root/install-aml.sh write the systemOS to emmc it also can boot successful, but the wifi and hdmi audio don't work,so i search from google and download a new u-boot file name with u-boot-new,I copy the u-boot-new file to SD card and rename it to u-boot.ext then insert the sd card to tv box, the wifi and hdmi audio work great, I'm very excited, but when I run /root/install-aml.sh again, the tv box boot failed , it endless echo "missing envitonment variable: bootfile" and "…

Hi, I have an oldish media center that I wanted to install linux on Mini M8S II 4K Smart TV Box Android Amlogic S905X (p212) I went to https://github.com/armbian/community#optimized and used Etcher to create this image Armbian_23.05.0-trunk-e33842ef2_Aml-s9xx-box_lunar_edge_6.2.9_xfce_desktop.img I followed this tutorial to get the boot process running commenting out the p212.dtb entry which seems to be the correct one for my board. It seemed to be going well, that is, the Armbian image booted the splash screen and I went through the various prompts to set the language, locale, timez…

The latest releases of armbian 23.01 with kernel 6.1 do not run from SD cards on the HK1 box S903x5. If I use USB flash, armbian starts. At the same time, old releases of armbian with kernel 5.9 from balbes150 run from SD cards - but the image with a green background. If you rename U-boot.usb to -boot.ext on the old release 20.10, then USB flash starts and the screen color is normal. Renamed u-boot-s905x2-s922.bin in u-boot.ext - does not help. I've tried a lot of u-boot.bin to try to boot from the SD card. (there is no suitable one). Tell me, please : how to build U-boot_HK1.bin with the correct parameters for HK1 box s905x3 - what w…

Hello, I have an old TV Box model MX-III-4K with S802 CPU and I booted into Armbian from an USB stick. I found an older Armbian version (and dtb) that works on this box and I have network and everything, so I'm happy with it, except that I would like to add also NAND support. Anyone can advise me how can I do that? Basically I would like to be able to access its internal NAND, to read it/write into it. Armbian version is 5.77 user-built Debian GNU/Linux 9 (stretch) 3.10.108 Thanks

Hello all, First straight to the point. Are there some issues with using Amlogic boxes as headless servers with armbian? For some reason ethernet "dies" if I boot it without HDMI connected and it doesn't "come back" even if I connect it back to the monitor and power it on again. I have to reflash SD card with fresh armbian to get it back up. Is this some known issue when using android boxes or is this something else? I tried two DTB files for S912 but there was no change. Now for the whole story. With prices of SBC currently being what they are I thought to try using one of my old Android boxes for simple server. In this case it was Sunvell T95U Pro box…

Same issue ethernet plugged or unplugged I cannot find anymore Armbian_23.02.0 prebuilt image Edit: Armbian_23.02.0 found in 03.19.0427 Many thanks!

This issue is specifically about an issue where 'sometimes' a box will fail to boot off of emmc (after having booted successfully previously). The workaround is to boot once from SD card and then the emmc boot generally works fine again. I am starting this thread as a central place to discuss this issue that has been reported by a few people that I know. @lgranie and @robertoenr both have reported this problem either recently or in the past and I see it myself frequently. It would appear that something is getting set in the uboot environment that is causing the boots to fail and fixed/cleared by a boot from SD card. I haven't had time to look…

Guys, I need to build a cheap NAND reader/writer to clone few NAND chips, and I have some old android TV Boxes that I'm thinking to re-purpose for this job. It's a one time job so I don't want to buy a professional NAND programmer as they tend to be quite expensive. Do you guys think this would be possible? So, I'm thinking to boot from an sd-card or usb stick with Armbian and get access to the NAND chips that all my tv boxes have (I have some old MX-III and M8 boxes, model K200 I think, with S802 cpus and 8GB NAND). If I manage to get NAND access I can de-solder and solder other chips that I need to write from/to. Does anyone have any experience with this and ca…

@balbes150 leaving is surely a big loss for all TV-boxers... Could you please elaborate - is requirement form "Getting started" regarding install " NAND: kernel 3.4.x and NAND storage " applied to his builds too? Years ago I successfully installed Armbian to NAND of MXQ 805 box (with nand-sata-install these days, I guess), and it worked like a charm, but now I can't find any s805 image with kernel 3.4, the earliest ones are 3.10 already. Thank you in advance if you could give a tip.

I found the TV box that played couple of years ago... and bricked 😞 The box looks like this one https://bestedshop.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=213 Seems like I flashed it with Khadas VIM bootloader and now it enters a boot loop because it's failing the vim_check preboot script. Hello, I am trying to add support for H96 Max X4 android box Here are the specs of my box: SOC: amlogic S905x4 RAM: 2GB Pictures I am trying to run this box as a raspberry pi alternative as I can't find a pi anywhere. I know that there is no official or unofficial support for this chip so I plan to add support for this box myself. After some research, I found that there are 4 variants according to coreelec community and they have already added support for generic S905x4 boxes. So my first intuition was to boot coreelec and try to move on from there. I tried their prebuild image and followed their guide but no succe…

Hello, I’m working on an s905x3 Armbian system, and having issues with an intermittent watchdog: The hardware watchdog: Meson GXBB Watchdog I’ve got the watchdog service installed. Expected behaviour, happens 4/5 times: when I kill the watchdog service, it starts wd_keepalive, which keeps on pinging the watchdog. Kill wd_keepalive and after a few seconds the device power cycles, as is expected. But sometimes that doesn’t happen, and the device just continues running. The watchdog device is also then writable (which it usually isn’t, due to being kept busy by the above processes) I’ve found this because sometimes the device doesn’t power cycle after…

I was dumb enough to try and update uboot on this little box and then it got sort of bricked. When connected using serial I could see it loop trying to boot from EMMC so I tried the reset button recovery to no avail. Shorting the EMMC pins works putting the device in recovery mode but the usb burn tool is stuck on formatting at 7% after it seems to sucesfull removed (and maybe flashed) uboot but the serial connection still shows it looping on EMMC. So I tried the next thing, shorting EMMC while connected using serial and I could the looping change to include sd and usb. So I made a sd recovery card using the burn card tool and it can boot from it, I can see ub…

I just bought hk1box with S905x3 chip, 4G RAM and 64G EMMC. It's a great box running android 9.0 smoothly. It has TTL pads so it can be used to check system boot up log. I've tried to run armbian on it. The good news is that the latest version of balbes150 - Armbian_20.10_Arm-64_focal_current_5.9.0.img can boot up successfully. The bad news is that the screen is green. I've learned from forum that the issue is caused by Amlogic‘s modification of u-boot and need to have u-boot.ext to solve the problem. But no matter the version with the image file or the version from NicoD can not boot up. Both of them has the following prompt and then reb…

I am using armbian on TV box S905W. with 32gb EMMC memory. actually the free memory in my EMMC is about 24gb i.e. only 8gb. used Currently, I have an additional box of s905w with the same version but with EMMC with 16gb memory. I used emmc 32gb partition backup using dd command and extract to usb, I use gparted to reduce the partition size ( ROOT_EMMC and BOOT_EMMC) to 12gb. I copied 2 downgraded partitions to 1 16gb usb, repackaged it as an img file. Proceed to use dd method to restore img file to emmc of 16gb device. The recovery did not give an error, but after rebooting using the EMMC internal memory, the device failed to boot. I want to know can we back…

Hi, I have a H96 prop plus tv box, which I managed to install and works fine. I want to highlight the work done here, where the dtb modified to be "meson-gxm-q200-mod.dtb" which works well, except that the OS cannot be moved to eMMC. Can I check if this dtb can be the default in the device selection list (203 is the number for this device) . Currently thr default dtb is meson-gxm-octopus-planet.dtb, which does not have the wifi and bluettoth working. Also, can the mainline boot file can be dafaulted to "u-boot-s905x-x912x.bin" file? TIA, RP.

Hello, I am a owner of a Nokia streambox 8000. I have been trying to install Armbian on it, but without luck. The board specification of the tv box: Board: Amlogic S905X3 ARM Mali-G31-MP2 I have been using the images from here: (external link to site not affiliated with Armbian). I tried the S905X3 jammy and bullseye versions. The installation procedure that I have been trying out is as following: 1. Download armbian_s905x3 img from github repository releases. 2. Use balenaEtcher to burn the image into a USB stick. 3. Once burned; Open the BOOT drive. 4. Rename u-boot-s905x2-s922.bin to u-boot.ext 5. Edit …

Hello, i have m96x max tvbox on s906x cpu, i install armbian and all fine works. But. Sometimes when tvbox power turns off and i power on - it won't boot. At monitor i can't see nothing, black screen, monitor go to sleeping mode. This can happen after 2-3 sometimes 5-6 incorrect shutdowns. To fix the problem i disconnect my usb-hub and wifi dongle, insert SD-card with Armbian - and voila, tvbox boot ok from sd card. I see on the monitor until the boot is complete and turn it off by pulling the power out of the outlet. Then i unplug SD card, connect the usb hub and the wifi dongle and turn ON it, boot from the internal memory goes fine. This solution always saves the day, b…

I just bought the Q96 Mini TV Box with 8GB RAM and 128GB ROM: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004079154677.html I have managed to boot Armbian in desktop mode with "Armbian_20.10_Arm-64_bullseye_current_5.9.0_desktop.img" But the problem is that it only allows me to use 1GB of RAM What do I have to do to be able to use the 8GB? Hello and thanks for this great posting. I have a Tronsmart Vega S95 Telos. The boot logo from AmLogic says simply S905 and that matches my understanding of the unit. I managed to boot Armbian from the SD card using the reset button. I played with it for a while and all seemed very good. So I went ahead and executed the /root/install-aml-s905-emmc.sh script. In general it seemed to work. Took a huge amount of time, especially in copying USR. But it did complete. However, when trying to boot thereafter all I get is a black screen for many minutes. Finally, I gave up and pulled the plug. Has anyone any idea what I might be doing wrong here? Thanks so…

I dug up an older box, a Transpeed 8K, S905X3, 4GB...tried Armbian_22.11.0-trunk_Aml-s9xx-box_kinetic_edge_6.0.10.img.xz, with the dtb for X96+ unhashed. I tried multiple times holding the reset button for 15-30 seconds, but it never boots. I'm pretty sure this one was sold under a different name, but haven't confirmed it yet. Anyone got any ideas on how to get this one running Armbian? Thanks, KC

I have a box with a s905w cpu. The idea is to install Linux to run klipper in my 3d printer. My age doesn't help a lot (65). But still love to learn new things. So the box will be used as a server. Am I in the right direction if I use this instruction to install? Any help is well appreciated.

@hexdumpI have a s905x box with secure boot enabled, I can run armbian from usb drive with your chainload uboot, and trying to run it on emmc. It looks like both chainloaded mainline uboot and armbian cannot find any partitions from emmc. My box have secure boot enabled so there is no way to replace the original u-boot. I have no idea how to deal with that.

My MXQ TV box died today, I was running Armbian stretch, and I had been listening to Mplayer playing Mp3s for several hours as background music, when the player stopped because it ran through the list, I went to change directories, but there were none found( I was running off the SSD), so I tried the root directory, also no files found. I closed the terminal window, and tried to restart, which just resulted in a boot loop. Thinking the file system was corrupt, I disconnected the SSD,and tried to boot the Android system from the internal Nand? which also resulted in similar behavior, I tried a different monitor, and removed all peripherals , Android partially booted, then…

Hi there, I'm very knew to this forum. Yesterday I successfully installed armbian 20.10 on my bqeel M9C MAX on sd card following this thread (https://forum.armbian.com/topic/12162-single-armbian-image-for-rk-aml-aw-aarch64-armv8/page/48/) I had no desktop manager available and tried several times to fix it by installing xfce4 and lightdm but with no success (I always had "xserverrc x not found" error). After that I accidentally run the script install-am.sh which properly completed the installation. After removing the SD and reboot I can no longer access Android :-o I surely went wrong running the script. The question is: there's any possibility to fix …

For a beginner like me this is a difficult box to install Armbian on. Before attempting the installation I had managed to install Armbian on a NexBox A95X (S905), and a M8S (S812). I want to share my experience with others because even though every box is different, what I did to install Armbian may give other users ideas on what to try on their own boxes. It is also good to record what I did in case I have to do it again years down the road 😅 The problem with the unit is that it is heavily customized, specially the boot loader. Even though it has a reset button, the usual toothpick method always result in the built-in rescue, i.e., it ignores am…

I recently came into possession of a Z69 Android TV Box (3/32GB) with a S950X chip. I tried @SteeMan's Amlogic guide, but can't seem to find @balbes150 files referenced in the post (only RK/Allwinner). I then tried compiling an Armbian img from https://github.com/ophub/amlogic-s9xxx-armbian (build jammy; s905x; kernel 5.10.135_5.15.50). I tried amending the config file but found it quite different from the ones in youtube videos or on the forums. There was a "u-boot-s905x-s912.bin" which I renamed to "u-boot.ext". However, when I did the toothpick method, the S905x bootscreen came up, followed by the splashcreen of the android box. The screen was …

To run latest desktop build on F3 Air one can use below steps. I am not sure if there is an easier way exist. 1) Downloaded the image Armbian 22.05 Jammy XFCE from Odroid HC4 section. 2) Write to SD CARD, this will create ext4 partition. 3) Use Partition tool of your choice and create another Partition at the beginning of disk and format as FAT type. 4) copy the files from /Boot to FAT drive and place the u-boot.ext file from old release which worked for you earlier. 5) Place the extlinux folder with extlinux.conf file and update the FDT. 6) Rename the files like image and initrd as required. …

G'day all this is my first post here, the title describes the brand model, apparent ram size and storage capacity of my tv-box, I know the chip has to be an S905* because I can boot coreelec with the dtb of s905W, but in armbian's case no luck yet. The device doesn't have an sd slot, however I was able to boot coreelec by using a usb drive and ADB. basically adb-connected to it and issued "adb reboot update". I have a similar device as this guy I think if not exactly the same: https://forum.atvxperience.com/viewtopic.php?t=6432 So what options do I have? Any help is welcome 😀

All the steps described by @SteeMan are fine. The details are the particularities of each TV BOX, in case of Brazil, the box are the low quality and price (the cheapest box of the market). I had many difficulties with a RUPA A9 Diamond with S912. Initially, the problem was the network, so I created new dtb´s files based in a post of someone. All the steps are described here: linux_variety/notes.txt at master · claudiosa/linux_variety · GitHub some steps to generate dtb and dts Later, the sound was not working, fortunately I tried some others dtb without the procedure describe above, i.e. without network. Fortunately, the first experiment with "MeCool K…

While playing video cpu goes from around 40% in X11 to 20% with weston \o/. You can find vlcd.service, scripts and config files in attached files.
