I've taken peeks at threads related to hardware decoding (of H.264 and HEVC, mainly) on Allwinner and Rockchip platforms on and off, sometimes dabbled in trying and failing to implement solutions recommended there. Being a complete amateur, I find the topic very opaque and confusing, with various different components that need to interface with each other, be patched in sync, and sometimes change drastically between kernel versions, etc. Today I sat down and read up on these subjects, scouring wikis, documentation, this forum, and assorted other sources to try and understand how this works. In this post I will attempt to compile what I've learned on the different software…

Armbian implements some basic 'system logging' at every startup and shutdown and contains a little utility to provide this collected information combined with some more useful debug info from user installations. All that's needed is executing 'sudo armbianmonitor -u' (or armbian-config --> Software --> Diagnostics) and then all this support related information is uploaded to an online pasteboard service automagically (see example output) How to interpret this wall of text? The output is best read from bottom to top since the most important information is collected during upload: At the bottom /proc/interrupts contents to chec…

Hi there, I have been using Ubuntu stock from Hardkernel but it is worse than a kick upon my jewels... As usual only Armbian is the way to go, however I personally dislike Ubuntu therefore I'd like to go with Debian but I didn't get the difference between CLI and Minimal. Can anyone advise me? Thanks in advance, F.

Hi, I wrote this news http://time4ee.com/news.php?readmore=170 about Orange Pi Zero Plus (SBC with SIM and Bluetooth) but I have a question. I didn't hear about this processor RDA8810PL and my question is if armbian will support this board. I don't know if xunlong send you preliminary boards or not. Thanks P.S. The answer will be release in news :-)

Hello, I wish to share my research on getting OpenGL to work on Mali GPU. I realize Armbian focuses on server images, but I suppose many people would be interested nevertheless. I have a Banana Pi Pro and an Orange Pi PC, which both have a compatible GPU. Perhaps it will work on other boards as well. Here are the commands I used to get OpenGL to work. 1. Install: # install GLX Gears, mesa GL and GLU libraries apt-get -y install mesa-utils # install development tools apt-get -y install build-essential automake pkg-config libtool ca-certificates git cmake subversion # install re…

Have been struggling to install Armbian on Firefly rk3399 - did try many images from armbian.com/firefly-rk3399 with no luck at all. Then I did stumble on a Arbmian image on a USB stick from 5 of January this year Armbian_19.11.7_Firefly-rk3399_bionic_legacy_4.4.208_desktop.img which did work to my surprise. Thought it had something to do with u-boot and partitions. I did always stop on starting kernel ... with some prior errors. Will try to install newer images for the sake of curiosity :-) Btw. have donated to the Armbian project twice - not so much, but some amount - as people should do. This is the serial out…

Hi there First of all thanks a lot for your images. Currently I am trying to setup my R1 as wifi access point using the image Lamobo-r1_Debian_3.2_jessie_4.1.2 The out of the box hostapd let me connect successfully from my wireless devices. After some time, one hour or so, the connection starts dropping and reconnecting up to a point that I cannot connect at all. BTW, I could not get hostapd working stable with Bananian and self compiled drivers as well. Symptoms were similar. I am also not using any harddisk or USB devices. I also used a second R1 and have the same problems. Does anyone have the same sy…

After reading from June '16 until February '17 I think it makes sense to start at the last steps /improvements. In the 5.24 nightly the directory for networking looks like this (the network folder and the few below this branch): Looking back to my manual I deleted the VLAN file and created my own. Then I see here: ifenslave | ethtool | ip | several 'interfaces' and I was wondering does it need all that for a working VLAN with DSA=Distributed Switch Architecture ? ==================================================== reto@lamobo-r1:/etc/network$ ll total 60 drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 4096 Feb 4 18:34 ./ drwxr-xr-x 94 root root 4096 Feb 4 18:36 ../ drwxr-xr-x 2…

So I tested Kodi playing different demanding video files (H256), and it works smoothly, without crashing at all. So far the most stable media center option. But yes, we have no ethernet. So I was wondering how could we load the basics drivers from the Xulong image, into the PineH6 one. So I browsed for hours (because Im not at all familiar with this android weird partitions system, and with the OS itself). First I realized both Pine H6 and OPiOnePlus use the same ethernet controller (the realtek 8211). Then I went for the schematics, to actually check if the realtek chip was connected to the H6 the same way on both boards. Which it seems to be for…

Doing apt search took just a few seconds before, but since some days, probably after an apt update && apt upgrade, it has become so slow that a search takes many minutes (20+ minutes) instead of seconds. I don't know why, and I don't know how to fix this. Do you know what to do? The slow part of the search is where it says "Full Text Search". It reaches 50% quickly, and then goes slow. If it matters: ODROID-C2, Buster

Hello to everyone! : ) I've made a lot of digging around but I haven't found a final reply to my questions because all the informations I've found are quite old and probably outdated. I own an OPi PC which I was using with Libreelec but unfortunately the HDMI output broke because of the missing protections. By what I know, there isn't any mean of getting AV out working on Libreelec so I switched to Armbian for which it seems to be possible instead. I've installed it with no issues at all (version as per title) but all the guides I've found on this forum to enable AV out seem not to apply, probably because they're intended for much older Armbian versions nor I couldn't fin…

Hi, in addition to some research regarding a few quality SD cards I wanted to ask our users to contribute to some collective benchmarking. In case you bought Samsung, SanDisk, Toshiba or Transcend SD cards within the last few months, have a A20 device and are able to test the card in question, please use this A20 Armbian 5.07 image (vanilla kernel, performance governor, no user creation), burn the image on the card, connect board to network, start it and do the following at least twice iozone -e -I -a -s 100M -r 4k -r 16k -r 512k -r 1024k -r 16384k -i 0 -i 1 -i 2 Please be aware that some cards seem to need some time for auto calibration when being first used s…

What about the new Banana PI M2 ultra ? Is it a real SATA controller ? or just one more that is channeled through the USB ? And is this machine likely to be supported by Armbian ? It in short seems to be a little overpriced and the eMMC storage to be to little. And the M3 left a bit bad taste in my mouth, but if it is Sata that gives more speed than USB and if it will be Armbian supported then I might give them another go.

I have done a firmware update on my Compulab Utilite Pro using u-boot compiled from source. However something went wrong, leaving me with a bricked board. In the manual it is mentioned, that the iMX6 has 2 boot-modes. The recovery-mode can be configured by switching some pin to a high-level. On the PCB I can not find any jumper, that allows me to do so. Question: Does anybody know how to switch the Compulab Utilite Pro to the recovery-mode? Thanks in advance

Hello I wanted to post on here regarding a new project we have been working on called SimpNAS. Its similar to OpenMediaVault or FreeNAS but simpler and more basic. Its currently in Beta but we are looking to have a stable release by the time Kobol ARM NAS gets released. It can be installed on armbian devices as long as it has two hard drives one for the OS and one for Data. For example we have it installed on an ODroid HC2, but can be installed on any PC. Feedback will be greatly appreciated. Check it out here https://simpnas.com Thanks for looking

Since the question came up a few days ago on linux-sunxi IRC and Igor2 provided a nice tutorial to activate Ethernet Gadget mode, I added the necessary one-liner patch to our repo (disabled by default) and built now a kernel with all the necessary stuff patched and enabled: http://kaiser-edv.de/tmp/4U4tkD/Armbian_3.4.112_g_ether_kernel.tar.bz2 To get the idea please read through Igor2's Readme: http://igor2.repo.hu/tmp/opi_usb_gadget.txt You should run a recent Armbian installation (apt-get update/upgrade), then extract the contents of the tar archive above somewhere, install the stuff using dpkg and then reboot: tar xf Armbian_3.4.112_g_ether_…

There are updates in the most recent mainline kernel about the Odroid C0/C1/C1+ board: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/log/?h=v4.20&qt=grep&q=odroid The armbian image with the mainline kernel have not been updated. Could you please update it? I would like to use it. You can officially drop the outdated version with the kernel 3.10. The Kernel 3.10 is not supported any more and have ton of security issues that wont get fixed. Only the mainline kernel is interesting and worth upgrading to latest kernel. Thanks

I'm looking to potentially set up a dedicated VPN server probably using an Olimex Olinuxino A20 Lime 2. The main thing I was somewhat confused about is how to connect to my router and how to ensure that traffic is routed through the VPN server? Presumably to connect to my router I would just use an Ethernet cable. But how then would I ensure that all traffic goes through the VPN? The vast majority of SBC that I have seen only have 1 Ethernet port so connecting devices physically is a no go. I assume I might need to use some form of port forwarding?

Hello. I want to use btrfs as my rootfs (Armbian Ubuntu xenial 5.14 on M2) so I can use snapshots to roll back, freeze for backups, and to help manage changes. Btrfs is also good for error checking and can provide cheap easy data redundancy. How does booting work on my BPI M2? How can I change the target root partition? What has to be on /boot (ext4) and what can be on / (btrfs)? Along the same lines, is it possible to boot off of a USB device either directly or indirectly (Small SD with bootloader and /boot→ USB large root device)? Is there some documentation or good keywords to learn about how booting works in the ARM world?

I'm unable to make an RTC module to work: RTC module ds3231, BPI M2Z and ARMBIAN Bookworm i2c pins 3 and 5 Driver RTC-ds1307 loaded, because RTC-ds3231 is not available. Why do I need a RTC-module? Often in the field I'm not online but I do need the right time on my observation camera's. My application does not allow me for having a monitor. My system does the recordings by motion detection, and the recordings do need the right time on it. armbian-config i2c0 set Tools installed: apt install python3-smbus i2c-tools i2cdetect -y 0 Detects address 068 and not UU as proof of driver been loaded …

rk3288.txtHi all, I stumbled across a board which may be of interest for one of my next projects. Here you can find a link to it, it is model JLD076 I have the board already on my desk, and as it is really well equipped with loads of interfaces, I would love to get Armbian working on it. J have attached the boot log from console to the message, it uses Uboot 2017, and seems to be based on a standard Rockchip eval board. Onboard peripherials are handled by the usual suspects: ethernet by RTL8211, WiFi by RTL8732, and some of the display links by ALC6540. eMMC is fixed on the baord, so RKUSB is needed (can be invoked by Uboot command or bu…

Hi All The "real time" kernel patches are included in Igor's Armbian build tools, but are disabled by default. Enabling them are simple. Could someone remind me of the status of the H3 crypto engine, both hardware (capabilities, aes-ni ?) and software (mainline or vanilla kernels) ? I've been testing openvpn on an amlogic s905 box (still need to fix my beelink x2 problems) and as expected i'm hitting a cpu bottleneck. i've been able to achieve around 60Mbps (Blowfish-cbc, usb hdd, ext4) but openvpn being single threaded the cpu load maxes out thus limiting openvpn's bandwidth. Unfortunately as with most vpn providers you can't tweak all parameters and so, changing the tun-mtu size is not possible and has to stay at the default 1500 value. I will perform some tests on my beelink x2 or opi pc…

Good morning everyone, I'm trying to find the script.bin file in my nanopi M1 in order to change HDMI resolution but untill now it has been impossible to find it. I'm using the debian that provides friendlyarm in version 3.4xxx (the one attached to in the page). I've been using all I commands and modes that I know, even show hidden files and nothing I know this is not a conventional linux device (its a development platform with a ARM Alwinner H3 processor in it) but since it has debian jessie, I think somone can help me find where the HDMI config files are. when I use find, it shows this: root@FriendlyELEC:/# find / -name script*.bin root@FriendlyELE…

Suddenly after updating via armbian-config I lost ssh access and found the port closed. I rewrote the latest armbian version, stuck the sd card in, connected to ethernet cable via router and started up. The red and green lights were on as they should be and the internet cable was flashing green. Waited 3 minutes and checked the ports with nmap. And the port is closed again. Not responding to ping at all. I am still new to this topic. Please help and sorry if the translator translates crookedly.

I read a lot of U Boot documentation the last hours but I still fail at fundamental understanding, like: - where can variables be set? boot.scr obviously, but there is also uEnv.txt boot.cmd armbianEnv.txt ... and in which order and precendence are they parsed? (If I set a variable in different files, which value will be used? first? last? ...) - how is a change made persistent (saveenv does not work) - Can sub-variables be changed, e.g. root in bootargs what I am trying to achieve atm is to change the boot partion rootdev from p1 to p2. Even thou I think I patched the relevant files, printenv shows that bootargs and rootdev are still set to…

Since December 2013, when I started to deal with CLI Debian images and support them, things become ... bigger. My prime motivation was only to build an working Linux image for some amateur based services. Project brought a lot of fun, a lot of new toys on my desk but also tears and frustrations. I hope and wish that public use our work to the greatest degree. Blog comments - your questions and (not only my) answers - become large and valuable knowledge base for ARM single board computers and general Debian / Ubuntu problems. I already manage to pack some of the into the FAQ but I'll need your help and patience within summarizing this into General FAQ. You only need…

I've got one of these boards. It is just Kernel development that has ceased as there are no maintainers? (Had I had the skills, I would have happily maintained it. ;-( ) Also, to get the latest Kernel later on, is it as simple as obtaining the official sources and then compiling (or cross-compiling to ARM) and then install the Kernel? On this one I'm a bit like a duck out of water and if anyone can point me along the right path, all help will be greatly appreciated.

No matter which image I take (stretch/bionic; Bananapim2/Bananapim2ultra; 5.38/5.69) my Banana Pi M2 Berry with it's Allwinner V40 won't boot correctly. The attached screen stays off and the LED keeps shining red. I used Etcher 1.4.9 portable to copy the image to an 16 GB MicroSD. It's worth mentioning that the Pi and the MicroSD work just fine if I'm running it with another distro, like the 2018-05-24-raspbian-jessie-preview-bpi-m2u-sd-emmc.img from the official website. If I'm using the image Armbian_5.69_Bananapim2ultra_Debian_stretch_next_4.19.13, then I'm able to access the Pi via ssh. Yet, the screen won't work at all. As an interesting side …

Sorry if I have come to the wrong place. A friend has given me an Orange Pi 5 Plus, fitted with a 1GB SSD, and I have been trying to get it started up. According to its previous owner, the SSD had been completely erased (I don't know why). It had no SD card with it when I got it. I downloaded the online instruction manuals, and set about trying to start it up, using a suitable 32GB SD card. I first tried with (OrangePi) Ubuntu, but ran into problems using Balena Etcher. It apparently transfers the Ubuntu Image to the SD card, but just as it appears to complete the process of verification, it produces a helpful error message ('There was an Error'....). I'm not sure if anyone is interested in a very small distro without gcc, but I spent some time the last week using buildroot and armbian's source files to create a 3.4.112-rt image for the nanopi neo. It is going to be part of a realtime audio project (think synth or guitar pedal) that I'm working on and it demands a quick boot, among other things. There is also a mainline version, but it doesn't have all the fixings you folks like, so I don't know if you'd want to use that. You can find the build scripts and config files on my github. I'll be posting the legacy image in a zip file tonight, once I verify everything is reproducible. I…

EDIT: This is NOT about a (hidden) backdoor but just a local privileges escalation that affects one single 3.4 kernel variant for 2 Allwinner SoCs. In case you came here through lurid headlines please read this comment here first and help stop spreading further BS like "all Allwinner devices contain a hidden backdoor" -- the code has been found since Allwinner could be convinced to open their Github repos in the past so everyone is able to audit their Android kernel source! It has been brought to our attention two days ago on 2016-04-30 in linux-sunxi IRC that Allwinner's 3.4 legacy kernel for H3/A83T/H8 contains a nasty local privileges escalation. Any process …

It's important to believe blindly in numbers! At least when you try to be mislead as much as possible! Yesterday Michael Larabel from Phoronix fired up his usual set of passive benchmarking tests for the new Raspberry Pi 3 and he still uses rather questionable results for other boards to compare with (he claims that it would be sufficient to use a board with 'factory settings', run a set of synthetic benchmarks, don't analyse the results or even think about whether they could be wrong and treat the results as the truth) RPi 3 is 4 times faster than OPi PC and 6 times faster than OPi Plus? Really? If you just try to think about these graphs for a second it…

Hello! I wanted to install the Armbian 26.2.1 Minimal / IOT to an Ordoid HC2 (using the XU4 distro). Download ok - sha hash is ok - balena etcher ok - startup - ok. Problem: When I log in the first time with "root", the "1234" as first password is not accepted. Also, PUTTY warns that ths ssh of the armbian uses only "Diffie-hellmann-group1-sha1" which (for PUTTY) is a bit unsecure. Any idea about the password issue?

Hello, I am using Armbian 5.25 Linux 8 jessie 3.4.113-sun8i and when I plugged usb grabber with chipset utv007 lsusb shows only 1b71:3002 without name of device. How can I add driver for this device to my armbian? (preferably without reinstalling Armbian) or If I install new version 5.3, will it work out of the box? Thank you!

Hi, guys. I need some help in understanding of usage AR100 (OpenRISC) coprocessor inside H3 SoC for the own real-time tasks. Now i'm using mainline kernel built with RT-PREEMPT patch. I'm using it with Machinekit (LinuxCNC) software to control stepper drivers/motors via GPIO step/dir pulses. But step pulses frequency is too slow (about 17 kHz) because the RT kernel latency is about 30 us. I think we can use the built-in coprocessor for the realtime GPIO toggling. The AR100 and main Cortex-A7 can talk to each other with built-in MSGBox. And the question is - how to launch my own firmware on the AR100 core?

Hello, I'm using Armbian_5.90_Bananapim2ultra_Debian_stretch_dev_5.1.12, which is offered as latest, but non supported download. I have used it a bit and installed OMV already, which seems to work fine (sata not tested yet), but I can not get wifi to work. wlan0 device does not exist. iwconfig says : root@bananapim2ultra:~# iwconfig lo no wireless extensions. eth0 no wireless extensions. dummy0 no wireless extensions. ifconfig does not bring up wireless interface at all. If I try to modprobe bcmdhd, ap6210, ap6212, it says : modprobe: FATAL: Module bcmdhd not found in directory /lib/modules/5.1.12-sunxi I…

I have an Odroid N2 connected to my TV via HDMI, 1920x1080. This works with the Ubuntu 18.04 Mate OS. In order to not block my TV for hours making it useless to my family, I would like to use my PC monitor instead (DVI/VGA, resolution 1680x1050). There are two entries in the file boot.ini regarding the resolution and interface. Currently it is set to the default (1920x1080, HDMI). Is it required to change both values to 1680x1050 and DVI or is it just sufficient to change the resolution ? Of course, I'll loose the sound. The result, however, is a headless server running a Nextcloud instance at home, so sound doe…

Hi, I normally use Proxmox on Intel Nucs (also Buster based) and also had here usbip with some USB sticks on a USB hub. Now I decided to split that up a bit and so I got some ZeroPi devices and wanted to use them as USBIP hosts kind of. So I installed the buster image and also added usbip_host module to /etc/modules. The devices are seen by the Linux on the ZeroPi in general and also /usr/sbin/usbip list -l lists them successfully. Here the dmesg output too: [ 350.174305] usb 4-1: new high-speed USB device number 6 using ehci-platform [ 350.331127] usb 4-1: New USB device found, idVendor=1a40, idProduct=0101, bcdDevice= 1.11 [ 35…

Here I'll try to accumulate all the useful information I find on topic. # System config and build ## Build OS for building Armbian disto: Ubuntu 20.04.1, 4 x core i7, 2GB RAM; HDD usage so far: 29GB so I guess 32GB disk is bare minimum; My build script mkBoardImg.sh for Armbian: Spoiler #!/bin/bash ./compile.sh CLEAN_LEVEL="images,debs,make,oldcache" \ BOARD="wandboard-srv" BRANCH="dev" \ KERNEL_ONLY="no" KERNEL_CONFIGURE="yes" \ BUILD_DESKTOP="no" BUILD_MINIMAL="yes" RELEASE="focal" \ Kernel configs are stored in /srv/kern/v1.0.conf, it's easier to save/lo…
